I had an awesome experience today. I was riding with a friend at lunch, and we were behind some brainless botox abuser in an A4 wagon, chatting on her phone and driving along at 5-10 under the limit. He was being very tolerant of her irresponsibility, moreso than I would have been. We came up to a light, and when it turned green, she was so caught up in her own vacuous little world that she just sat there, so he laid on his horn. She then woke up, and shortly after she turned off on a side street. Well, about 5 minutes later, a revenue collector/police officer pulls us over! He claimed there was a report of the vehicle we were in driving recklessly. It seems the cow didn't like being honked at. And the worst part of it is this cop had a chip on his shoulder the size of the Rock of Gibraltar, and a very smarmy attitude. He claimed in no uncertain terms that if this woman had wanted to pursue it, my friend would have received a citation right there. So anonymous reports give tickets now? When these revenue collectors/police officers meet unfortunate ends, I really find it hard to mourn. To serve and protect...is it a joke or a lie? I hope this guy ends up regretting the day he was born.
Maybe your car matched the description of a car associated with some recent crime.
I highly doubt that. I have an Elantra Station wagon, they haven't made them since 2000 and even then they were rather rare. The county jail and county police are along that route and it is a main route going two fro so it was just a coincidence. But it was weird just the same.

Funny you should say that, for just on Saturday I was at a local shop and saw a Hyundai station wagon (didn't look for model) on the way back to my car. I thought, "Huh. I didn't realize Hyundai made a station wagon. That's odd." Hahahah... :P

Are you able to check the police records to see who called in the complaint? They are public records here. It might be interesting.
This reminds me of the story here about a parking lot conflict and then a police friend on a little police force near Chicago sends a parking ticket through the mail to the victim. Think that was on this discussion.
I suppose my friend could press it and try to get more data. He is more dismissive of this than I am, but I think that cop was way out of line. Had I been driving, I would certainly be raising a stink. If I got a ticket for such a thing, I'd just call a lawyer and try to make the revenue collector/police officer pay for his attitude. There'd have to be a way to be compensated for the waste of time.
But anyway, I haven't sought any more info...
I always thought a cop had to witness it too. It seems a judge would have to be awfully crooked and illogical to take such stuff as fact...but some judges are just that.
I should have got the license # of the phone-yapping airhead, then I could make a few fake suspected DUI calls or something. I'll remember her vehicle, it had some unique features (due to neglect).
Fintail's friend might want to check with a friend close to police in his area to ask about that. The policeman probably overstepped his bounds. Sounds like he was suffering from badge and gun disease; affects the brain and logical thinking. Like the guy in the West who shot the Iraq soldier as he got up off the ground!!!
I had a lady pass me on our road as I turned into our drive. She nearly hit my driver's door. I called the police. He came by and had stopped at her door to see her. I had mentioned when I was telling her how dumb she was her eyes looked glazed. I wondered if she had been drinking. But I'm sure he didn't accuse her of drinking and driving and threaten her.
Might be interesting for the friend to visit with the chief if it's a normal department. If it's a small town with 3 cops and they're all related tot he mayor, fat chance. Used to have one of those on old route 40 near Columbus! Legislature had to change rules to get rid of the speed trap they operated.
I was saying the chief might be interested in one of his men doing something like that in that manner. The smaller the department, the closer the people would be; less chance of chief handling the matter properly.
I had a similar thing occur right after I graduated from college...
I was serving as designated driver for a group of friends that were going to a club. I hadn't had a drop to drink, and had probably 5 people (including myself) in the car. We were driving down town to the club, listening to music. Some of the drunkards in my car were dancing a little in their seats in the car, but for the most part it was a pretty calm situation - and they were not distracting my driving at all.
I was being very careful, minding all traffic laws (as I figured there would be cops looking for drunks around the entertainment district). Well, we get to the parking lot by the club, and as I pull in I notice 10 or so officers on foot approaching my car. I roll the window down, and they demand that I get out of the car. They ask me how much I had had to drink, and I said nothing. They then proceed to tell me they received a call that my vehicle was running stoplights and driving very fast. I told them that none of that was true (because it wasn't), and offered to take a breathalyzer or do any yoga positions they wanted me to. They simply told me that if the person that submitted the complaint had of been there to positively id me, that they would have issued me a citation, but since it was an anonymous complaint, they were going to let me go. I, along with all of my passengers were baffled that they could issue a citation simply off of a "he said, she said" situation.
Not surprising, given the situation my wife went through (elaborated here earlier), when an off-duty cop moonlighting as a fence builder conspired with my arrogant, grudging neighbors to get my wife arrested and convicted for trespassing. Of course, the bored judge believed the cop (who appeared in court in full dress uniform) rather than my wife.
If this passes for justice in America, one can only shudder about what happens in say, Uzbekistan.
I'm almost thinking of emailing the police department, or having my friend do it. But with nothing signed, no paperwork issued, probably nothing recorded...I suspect nothing would come of it. This did happen in small bedroom community suburb that likely has no more than 5-10 officers. Just a power trip by someone with control issues who probably gets to do nothing but annoy motorists. But hey, at least the cop didn't have a mustache or a big gut. So I guess it could have been worse.
". They simply told me that if the person that submitted the complaint had of been there to positively id me, that they would have issued me a citation, but since it was an anonymous complaint, they were going to let me go"
That's exactly the line of thinking the irresponsible glorified civil servant gave my friend yesterday. I was just shocked, I couldn't say a word at the time. It was almost like a bad episode of candid camera. There would have to be a way to seek litigation had a citation been issued. I wouldn't be content to just have the charges dropped...if you're going to disrupt my life, you'll pay for it.
Some of these revenue collectors/officers need to be met with irate people they've victimized 10 or 20 years after they retire. Let them become all secure and sound in the way they've abused those who are really their customers or employers, and then have it all taken away...
I guess in the future the best thing to do will be to hide a digital video recorder in your grille or dash, and just record each drive. I have seriously thought about doing this.
Dude you need to relax with your view towards police officers. I will admit that you'll find power hungry cops everywhere, but I have family and friends that are cops and they are good people. Your comments:
"Some of these revenue collectors/officers need to be met with irate people they've victimized 10 or 20 years after they retire. Let them become all secure and sound in the way they've abused those who are really their customers or employers, and then have it all taken away... "
Are down right scary and certainly have no place in a car forum when discussing Inconsiderate Drivers.
Most cops I've met with are decent guys too. But that doesn't excuse the bad ones. Hell, he could have pulled out his handgun/overcompensator, executed us both, and probably received a month of paid leave. The bad ones need to be dealt with as severely as the good ones deal with real criminals. Accountability is a two way street - unless you wear a badge.
If you don't like my post, skip it. If you're scared, it shouldn't be a problem.
Even the so called "bad" cops are decent guys. However the thing that is scary is what is done under the color of law/authority. Remember the officer has the drop on folks when it comes to that old dictum: better to be tried by 12 folks on a jury than carried by 6 pall bearers.
Even if you shoot and kill an officer in (justifiable) "self defense" it is an uphill Mt Everest journey vs rolling a ball DOWN Mt Everest if an officer shoots a citizen in a minor or routine "self defense" Sure, citizens have recourse in the courts. But I would ASK how much good will it do a DEAD person?. How is that DEAD person going to spend the 2m he might get as a "wrongful death" judgement?
you're talk of corrupt cops is way beyond the scope of this forum. I responded to your post because I felt that it was inappropriate. I am only scared that people are walking the streets with the same mentality you have.
Is it really? So you determine the scope of the forum now huh? Without the corrupt cop, there would have been no problems yesterday. As usual, the party with the most guilt gets to run away. The cop was the problem, his lack of consideration said everything. If there is any goodness in the world, he'll get a reality check, maybe just through a massive lawsuit or maybe an at-fault accident.
If you want censorship, email a host. I know, according to some, some members of society are above castigation. Defer, conform...
I don't know if I would go that far. 95% of cops are great, but the bad ones are REALLY bad. You're right in saying it is scary, though. You really never know what might happen to you. The badge usually absolves accountability.
Oh yeah, yesterday I also noticed something...don't cops check ID of all passengers? He didn't even ask my name, not to mention check ID. I could have been some murderer for all he knew. But he was just playing around, I guess, using his cruiser and weapon as compensation for god knows what. He should just stick to the speedtraps, at least then he has a leg to stand on.

A slightly beat up, 1992 white Grand Marquis was racing down the highway on the leftmost lane. We were in the leftmost lanespotted him in our rearview mirror doing probably 160km/h in a 120km/h zone. He flashed his lights at us to get out of his way. We couldn't do that because there were cars in the next lane. Instead of slowing down a bit, he proceeded to overtake us on the emergency lane, and he then swerved in front of us.
Up ahead was a white, previous generation Mercdes S Class, prior to the year 1998. The Grand Marquis tried to overtake him on the shoulder too, but the Mercedes had guts. He moved to the left, partially blocking the emergency lane and straddling both the left lane and emergency one.
The Grand Marquis panicked. He was about to pass the Mercedes when it blocked. From behind, we saw him slam the brakes, and I saw him actually hit the concrete divider. Fortunately, he only traded paint, and I think he even knocked off his side mirror. It's a good think he didnt spin out of control and hit us.
Anyway after regaining control of the car the Grand Marquis chased the Mercedes to its exit. This exit was right before ours so I couldnt tell what happened next.
All I can say is the idiot in the Grand Marquis got what he deserved - nearly experiencing a horrific crash. As for me, to watch it unfold.....well that was a heck lot of fun.
You know, it's really better to let the idiots go then to try to block them as the Mercedes driver did. Easier said than done, though, in the heat of the moment.
There could have been a horrific crash, involving surrounding innocent drivers, and the Mercedes driver would have been ahead of the action, unscathed.
I hope Mr. Mercedes drove to a police station or other safe place with Mr. Angry hot on his heels.

The advanced search IS a great way to find old posts! As snake said, all you need to remember is one phrase that was in the post and you can usually find the post on the first try.
Now if only we had an advanced search on the roads and could find and avoid the ID's as easy! :P
I saw a goodie today...maybe not as inconsiderate to other motorists as she was to her vehicle. Today in traffic I was behind a Boxster occupied by a pair of 20-something looking women. I suspect the driver couldn't operate a manual...as she never shifted in stop and go traffic! She would just rev it way up until the torque finally got the car moving. I could hear the thing whining away as traffic would move, and it would slowly accelerate, the driver never shifting. My dad used to play that game in a 68 Fairlane with a 3 speed manual/289, but that's a different beast. That can't be good for the car, can it? I wonder if her dad/boyfriend/meal ticket just put it in 2nd (or 3rd?) and just had her drive?
All I can say is the idiot in the Grand Marquis got what he deserved - nearly experiencing a horrific crash. As for me, to watch it unfold.....well that was a heck lot of fun.
Yes, not very surprising. BTW, I doubt the judge really believed the cop, just ruled in his favor as a matter of course. Small town courts are really star chambers in many cases.
My commute takes me right through the middle of downtown Naperville, IL straight down Washington Ave. This road is two lanes its entire length but through the downtown area the right lanes turn into parking spaces effectively turning into a one lane road and there are no dedicated left turn lanes so a left turner can tie up traffic a bit.
The town of Naperville to make rush hour as smoothly as possible has made this section of road a no parking section during rush hour (they are out there ticketing and towing right at 4:00 PM) and they have big lit up signs that signify no left turn that light up at this time.
SO guess what? I get stuck at an intersection behind some clown trying to make a left turn with a big "no left turn" sign lit up staring him in his face.
2011 Hyundai Sonata, 2014 BMW 428i convertible, 2015 Honda CTX700D
In King of Prussia, PA there are some really bad snarls as 4 or more major highways come together to bring all of America to The Mall.
This AM at rush hour, I exit the PA Turnpike onto 202S, exit 202S via the 422/Swedesford Rd exit and que up in one of the two dedicated left-turn lanes. In addition to the 2 left turn lanes at this intersection (in my direction) there is also a dedicated straight lane and a dedicated right turn lane. An ID in a Subaru Outback pulls up to the light in the straight lane (past a LOT of stopped cars in the 2 left lanes) and starts honking and waving to the lead driver in the right left turn lane.
My bet is that he was trying to get some 'consideration' and be allowed to cut in front. However, the lead driver was either very distracted or very pointedly ignoring the Outback. The light turned green and the Outback was forced to make a right (from the dedicated straight) and (I assume) make a U Turn in the parking lot 100yards down the road.
Normally, I would give a driver like that the benefit of the doubt. However, my skepticism gets raised under the following conditions: 1 - It's early rush hour. Most of the people on the road are taking the same route they took yesterday, the day before, etc. 2 - This exit is brand-spankin' new construction and (unusual for PA) is very clearly marked at multiple points down the stretch.
There could have been a horrific crash, involving surrounding innocent drivers, and the Mercedes driver would have been ahead of the action, unscathed.
Or worse, couldn't the Mercedes have been spun out by the Marquis hitting the rear quarter-panel of the Mercedes?
Yeah, I am wondering if that is what happened (or similar) when I saw the engine/tranny explode and chunks go flying in a gold MB outside of Spokane many years ago. I think I related that story somewhere..... The Accident Report, probably. Hmm. Scary what a person will do just to "drive..."
I have a funny one for you, though, fin! Last night on the way home from work I saw a black MB coupe.... I don't know my MBs very well, so couldn't tell you much about it except that it was probably a C-something and was fairly new (+1998?). It had the oval laid back headlights and "aggresive" stance. Anyway, it is just blowing down the road at probably 70 in a 55 (limited access highway at this point, so no big deal IMO).... with a Domino's Pizza sign affixed to the roof! Haha. Gotta make the car payments somehow! :P

You probably saw a CLK320, and that beats the old Lexus LS I saw delivering pizza a few weeks ago.
I do have to wonder how much engine failure in late model cars is due to dumb owners like the broads in that Porsche. I wouldn't wanna buy that thing as a used car!
I would not be surprised if the "Exclusions" section of the auto policy specifically mentioned no coverage when the scheduled auto is used for business or delivery purposes.
I believe it used to be called the "Dominos Exclusion".
This idiot Truck Driver was doing 75 mph plus and they wonder why they end up rolling over like rag dolls in the medians of many highways. :confuse: He started to slide and hit his brakes which scared the crap out of me, because he didn't leave me many places to go if he would of lost it. :surprise:
You're probably right, as this car is pretty much a spittin' image of it (except the one I saw was black).
I feel the same way about 4wd vehicles (not AWD so much) as you do about used sport cars! Most of the people up here who drive them do not know how to use them. They end up abusing the 4wd so much that when they sell them, the next poor owner ends up dealing with all the problems the first owner caused.
I rode with a pair of coworkers yesterday in a "new" '01 Mazda 4x4. The driver has had it for about a week. When he went to stop at the first light, he nearly slid into the vehicle in front of him. We started sliding almost immediately, and he kept lightly tapping the brakes. I told him to jam them and engage the ABS to assist the stop, but it was his first ABS car and he didn't think that was right.... Okay, so we got stopped a few inches shy of a collision and all was well. After we arrived at our destination, I talked with him about the intricacies of ABS and all the while, the other coworker was spouting off that ABS didn't work that way and if you "feel the pulse" it was bad, blah blah. Well, there was at least one lost cause there. Now I know why most states have eliminated the "ABS discount" on auto insurance policies.
Oh, her other bit of sage advice was to put it in 4-high after the first snowfall and leave it there for the rest of the winter. Yeah.... great advice.

I hope Mr. Mercedes drove to a police station or other safe place with Mr. Angry hot on his heels.
Yes I did here it is:

Now if only we had an advanced search on the roads and could find and avoid the ID's as easy! :P
FUN? How so?
The town of Naperville to make rush hour as smoothly as possible has made this section of road a no parking section during rush hour (they are out there ticketing and towing right at 4:00 PM) and they have big lit up signs that signify no left turn that light up at this time.
SO guess what? I get stuck at an intersection behind some clown trying to make a left turn with a big "no left turn" sign lit up staring him in his face.

However, my skepticism gets raised under the following conditions:
1 - It's early rush hour. Most of the people on the road are taking the same route they took yesterday, the day before, etc.
2 - This exit is brand-spankin' new construction and (unusual for PA) is very clearly marked at multiple points down the stretch.
Or worse, couldn't the Mercedes have been spun out by the Marquis hitting the rear quarter-panel of the Mercedes?
I have a funny one for you, though, fin! Last night on the way home from work I saw a black MB coupe.... I don't know my MBs very well, so couldn't tell you much about it except that it was probably a C-something and was fairly new (+1998?). It had the oval laid back headlights and "aggresive" stance. Anyway, it is just blowing down the road at probably 70 in a 55 (limited access highway at this point, so no big deal IMO).... with a Domino's Pizza sign affixed to the roof! Haha. Gotta make the car payments somehow! :P
I do have to wonder how much engine failure in late model cars is due to dumb owners like the broads in that Porsche. I wouldn't wanna buy that thing as a used car!
I believe it used to be called the "Dominos Exclusion".
