On your post I think you may have this mixed up. The EX model with the luxury package gets the Auto temmperature control and it uses the AMB temp button, so the sensor must be located outside near the A/C condensor. All the other Sorento models use the temperature button up on the overhead console which displays cabin temperture. Unless I am reading your post wrong and you ment to say that the Luxury package is the one that gets the AMB button in the Auto temp control.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
brookyln1951 - I know the A.M.B. is for outside temparture. I didn't say this is for the cabin temparture. I think I rasied this issue because this seem not accurate even on my friend's 2002 Carmy. Mine usually few degrees warmer and even 10 degrees warmer (even I am not under direct sunlight). I think hicaffa had compared this A.M.B with a regular thermometer. So the placement of the sensor properly effect the reading.
For the tires, the Michelin did cost more than others. There are many tires cost as low as $74 at Tire Rack, almost half of the Michelin cost.

I think that you read my post incorrectly- I have an EX with the luxury package and I agree with you. But I sure wish I could display outside (ambient) temperature all the time like in the overhead console of the non-lux pkg. models.
  • hciaffahciaffa Member Posts: 454
Sorry if I misread your post!!! I have a EX with Luxury as well si I know that the AMB is for external temp. I wish that the interior temperature was still in the overhead console. This way I could know both inside and outside temp. I really have no need for the altititude thats in the Luxury package. If I am high enough my ears will pop to let me know.As for the Michelins they were rated very high as a great all season tire by Consumers Reports along with a Toyo Open Country tires for light trucks an SUV's.

I live in Colorado and want to sometimes drive in the mountains to ski/hike in the winter- but not really offroad. How good will these tires perform to prevent slippage in partially snow/iced roads compared to snow tires?

We live in CT and for sure we don't the snow that CO does but we get our Noreasters. Last week we had a good 6 to 8inch snow fall and our Sorento just moved on like a trooper. Since we drive sensable in foul weather the Sorento moved thru the snow very well and even better in 4WD Lo. We even went off road following a overhead power line truss, not a driven trail and the Sorento performed well as long as we drove slow and carefully. I guess if you stay on the roads or on trails the Michelins will be fine but if your going to track onto undriven trails you may want to switch to a good snow tires mounted on reg rims.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
Same thing here in MA. The Noreasters. It hit us twice in the past month. This tire (Michelin Cross Terrain) is in a highway all-season category. If you drive slow, it will be fine. For serious off-road and in places where roads are always covered with snow, snow tire is recommended. I properly drive slow on the snow. I haven't get a chance to see the ABS work. I know how they work on my Accord, but just try to avoid hard braking during break in period.
Last weekend, I was trying to park my Sorento on a 2 feet high snow bank (actually it's an ice) on the side of the road. It was the only on street parking space that I found . I drove up there but I was hesitated. The wheels seem slip (on the ice surface). I was afraid the car will roll even with the hand brake on and with the weight of the car. I didn't any chance and I left. Minutes later, an Audi All-Road took my spot.

hicaffa - Thank you for your previous post about the leather care. I was able to locate the Lexol leather cleaner, conditioner. and the applicator sponges in the store. All (16.9 oz. spray bottle) these cost under $20. I properly clean the seats and wax my car in spring. BTW, did you buy those WeatherTech rubber mats? I just want to see if they are well fit. Any suggestion about car wax?
  • hciaffahciaffa Member Posts: 454
No I did not order the car mats I think that someone is ordering a set of mats and also the window visors from McNiel's I would prefer to wait to see how they are. As for as auto waxes I used to detail autos part time for extra cash and I used NO Armor All products. For wax I use Liquid Glass and or Meguiers Classic Gold as both of these leave a very high gloss and last for a long time they also have polymers in them that protect the clear coat from UV's. The more you use them the stronger the wax on the car gets because it builds up a non yellowing surface and after the first two coats you only have to wax about once a year. For vinyl I use Protectant 303, great stuff protects and leave just a little shine. On the tires I use this also for a base coat then I use Meguires tire protectant Endurance (lo-gloss). For leather I use Meguires leather conditioner and cleaner. Again these are only suggestions.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
Thanks. hicaffa. For the wax, is it a matter for a hand wax or those electric polisher? I also found the liquid form is more easy to work with compare with the paste type wax. But I don't use those spray type. It has little wax (same as those automatic car wash). People are want to save time on auto detailing.

Kia shows us this special edition of Kia Sorento Surf in the 2003 LA Auto Shows. According to Kia, the Sorento Surf is not intended as a future production car. This silver Sorento has mesh grille, dual exhaust outlets, roof-mounted antenna, tubular roof rack with auxiliary lights and more. I am sure it gives us more ideals on aftermarket parts.

Thanks to all for the info on the bra for the Sorento. I've heard the same things about the pros and cons of having one on your vehicle. It's one of those things that you definitely would only put on for occasional use, not for extended use. I still think it would look really good. You'd just have to put up with the extra work of removing it and cleaning it often.
    Thanks again for the input!
  • hciaffahciaffa Member Posts: 454
I prefer liquid wax as they have become just as durable as the paste wax and they are much more easier to apply and remove. As with the Liquid Glass that I mentioned, you can apply it to several panels and then remove it,as long as the body panels are cool or in the shade. Removing it is very easy and it leaves almost no wax dust. And on the Sorento since the lower cladding is painted don't forget to appply a coat of wax there. As far as using a buffer if you are not familiar you have to be careful as you can burn the paint off of any high spots on the vehicle. You have to move it along fast enough not to let it stay on one area to long.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
hicaffa - Thanks. Wax dust is the most disgusting thing I don't want to see after waxing. I have to use a duster (brush type) to remove it. The lower cladding area and the roof (with roof rack) will be a challenging job when waxing. When using buffer, do you apply the wax on the pad or the surface?

Is anyone buying this WeatherTech rubber mats for the Sorento? I am planning to buy this (front and rear set). The company sent me an email saying the front set is fitted (not custom fitted) and the rear set is unversial size (can be trimmed). I just want to know if they are well fit, especially the rear set. I have a set of rubber mats (made by other company) specific made for my Accord. But rear mats are about 2 inches smaller than the stock mats. There are always debris and dirt around the edge.
BTW, the rain visor for Sorento cost $64.95 at my Kia part and service. I will properly order them and install them when the weather gets warm here. They would charge me $40 for put them on. No way!

Does anyone know it the two wheel drive Sorento can be purchased with a limited slip differential?
  • so_caliso_cali Member Posts: 65
I spent all of about fifteen minutes installing the Weathertech side window wind deflectors today. They look great! I've also updated my Sorento page with some added photos of the wind deflectors and some new pics.

I have about 275 miles on my EX now and I like it more each day. Not ONE problem and everything is tight and smooth. Much to my surprise, after thinking of purchasing one, I found a cargo net under the back floor panel, something other companies charge you extra for but included for free by Kia! Looking forward to the 600 mile point when the break in is over (according to the owner's manual) and I can start to drive a little more *energetically*! My UPS driver said to me, "Oh, you got a new Lexus." LOL

Wanted to also put in a plug for Zaino car care products. Their stuff is the best for keeping your vehicle looking nice!! Check them out at Zainobros.com

Note to docralpho: Limited slip is NOT available on the 2WD.

Here's the link again to my Sorento page:

I checked out your photos at your site. I like the way that the Weather Tech deflectors look as opposed to the Kia's. The Kias are mounted to the outside of the window on to the door frame. I am not to keen on these as they don't look as good. Any difficulties in attaching them. I was up on the Weather Tech site and reviewed the installation film. All you do is just flex them into place and thats it. What holds them in place, the force against the window channel. Another question, are they thick or thin flimsy material. Again it looks good. Good thing you found the cargo net, it comes in handy, and your right that many auto compnanies such as Subaru charge for the net. I also know what you mean about being anxious getting to the 600 mile mark so as to drive *energetically*, We reached ours and away we went.

I received the Kia service manuals the other day. Not bad, (but pricey @ $100) however, they really could use a good editing by a native English speaker. Some of the instructions are almost undecipherable. Kia should look at the Saab factory manuals. They are the model of the industry. Each section has a detailed description of the components and an explanation of their operation. The translation is almost flawless but the complete set costs over $250.
While perusing the manual, I noticed that an illustration showed a rear fog lamp indicator in the instrument panel on the left side where all the warning lights are. The picture showed that the lamp holder for the fog light indicator was in place. Great, I thought- I'll just run a wire from the fog lamp switch harness on the steering column to the instrument panel harness. No good- evidently US market Sorentos get an instrument panel that does not have warning lights for other markets. Too bad, but maybe I'll add a small indicator lamp somewhere on the dash.
If anyone has any pressing mechanical questions, I will be happy to research them in the Sorento service manual for you. You can email me directly - trionic900 @ cs.com.

    mikesf...
Nice photos of your Sorento! I'm curious though. I cant tell if thats an EX or LX. From your photos it looks like an LX. But I notice you have the front fog lights, which I didnt think you could get on an LX. I've an LX but if I could have the fog lights installed, that would be great. Was this something you had added?
Maybe brooklyn1951's service manual could shed some light on the fogs as well. Because I wonder if this could be a simple installation.
  • so_caliso_cali Member Posts: 65
hciaffa - the weathertech deflectors are made for them in germany and they are a heavy grade plastic. very classy and not flimsy at all. installation is very easy but if you get them be careful on the fronts with the final corner that slides over the window rail area. it can scratch the rubber. they just pop in and the force of their shape holds them in. the back ones also have two sided sticky tape on the tops - probably not needed but it's there nonetheless to also help hold them in.

larch 99 - the answer to your question is probably an LX. all EX models (at least in the USA) have a factory moonroof. his obviously has the upgraded wheels and the foglights added, unless Kia is doing something different in Canada.
  • hciaffahciaffa Member Posts: 454
I just ordered my window visors from Weather Tech. I will probably return the ones I got from my dealer as I mentioned they go over the window onto the frame and make for a not so classy finish. Now if Weather Tech or Ventvisor can come out with a good bug/stone defector that would be great, as the Kia one you have to attach it with clips that clip to the hood and inside, behide the Kia grill. Also waiting for a company to come out with custom rubber mats without having to trim the to fit. But if the price is the same as another set of Kia carpeted mats ( about 75-80 dollars) I would just as soon as go with them for the fit and switch from winter and summer. By the way I wish I could wash our Sorento but here in New England temps are way below freezing and going to get worse, your's looks nice all cleaned an polished,(jealous I am). Thanks for the Weather Tech info

Thankyou so much for your advice regarding adjusting the mirrors and buying a lane changer mirror. Unfortunately the later does not stick- either I peeled too much of the adhesive, or it was defective- any idea what sort of glue or tape I can use to stick it to my car mirror without damaging it?

larch99- Unfortunately the Sorento shop manual doesn't show anything about the mechanical installation of the fog lights. The bulbs are replaced from behind the lower valance panel and I assume that the lens/reflector units are attached from behind the valance also. Buying the fog lights from Kia would cost about $200- if I remember correctly when I checked their parts website. And that wouldn't get you the stalk mounted switch (no great loss!). I hate unfilled openings (for fog lights) and blank switch covers (in the dash center stack) too, but the truth is, you could get better and less expensive lights from Hella or PIAA- albeit ones that don't fit in the stock location.
  • mikesfmikesf Member Posts: 84
Larch99: Thanks. I have an LX. In Canada, Kia is quite different. For example, we have no 2wd models, all LXs come with ABS, Fog lights, alloy wheels, 4WD, dyatime running lights, and some other options as standard gear.

Steve281: I had to remove the double-sided tape that came with the mirror when I took it off my CR-V to put it on my Sorento. In its place I used 3M double-sided tape. Works like a charms and has been holding out well even in the -25 weather we've been getting here. Remember, use some rubbing alcohol (just a bit) to clean the surface you are going to be applying the tape. It helps with the adhesion.

    Cheers!

It is good to be back again. I have to take care my baby who has been sick for few days. The weather in Boston is below freezing for more than a week.

Something that I should mention is the warning sound for rear liftgate. I had to open it for the computer desk (long box) that I bought from Office Max. There were passengers in the back and I couldn't fold down the rear seats. I could hear this high tone warning sound during my 5 miles drive home. I only heard the sound when the car is in drive and only when the car is moving. When the car is stop (still in Drive), no sound.
Anyway, here are my comments, replies and questions.

brooklyn1951 - Can you able to find the specs for the light bulbs (low beam, tail lights, turn signals) from the service manual? You are right. The fog light lens assemble costs almost $100 each (plus mounting brackets, wires & bulbs). They properly have to re-run some wires. Also the fog lights switch is on the turn signal stick. Try Hello or PIAA.

steve & mikesf - Thanks again for the picture posting info. I have to wait until I get a clean car.

so_cal - The WeatherTech rain visor looks good on your Sorento. I was going to order one from Kia. But hicaffa mentioned that they are mounted outside the window frames. By looking at your pictures, they look like they not are mounted outside the window frames. Anyway, I have to wait until the weather gets warm to do this.

hicaffa - I am still looking for a better fit rubber mats. The WeatherTech said the rear mats are universal. Also, I just got the leather cleaner & conditioner. Is it OK to use during any weather temperature? And how often that I have use them?
  • hciaffahciaffa Member Posts: 454
Boy it seems that this site has gotten slow. I guess that we are all out enjoying our Sorento's.
lok888 ... on the alarm noise that you heard, it also does the same if you have one of the doors open or ajar and you put the Sorento in Drive the chime alarm goes off. Put it back in park and it stops. On the leather cleaner and or conditioner you can use it now but its beter for it to be warm. I live in Connecticut and you in the Boston area so we are going thru some very cold weather. I would wait to put the conditioner on as you want the seat to be warm to absorb the oils. Unless you have a heated garage then do it.
I ordered a set of the Weather-Tech window vents. I think it gives a cleaner look than the Kia ones as they mount to the outside. I talked to a rep on the rubber mats. The rear are a universal and are not as large as the ones in the Sorento and the fronts are fitted but some triming may be required. I cannot find any at any other web accessories site. I think it is to early yet for Sorento accessories. As I mentioned in a earlier post for the price I think I may go and get another carpeted set from my kia dealer and switch from winter to summer.
For whats its worth I picked up a glass ething kit for the VIN number. The dealer wants over 150 dollars to do it and the kit cost under $25 with shipping and it does 8 windows. I have used this kit on my other cars and it works very well.

Yes, things have quieted down a lot. How about this - how many total miles do people have on their Sorento? I have 1110, owned it for 5 weeks, and happily have ZERO issues with the car.

We have owned ours since late November and nothing. My wife does most of the driving in it but when I get to drive it I put it through its paces and I am very happy with it.

My only problem which is livable is thatI notice, when I get to drive, is some wind noise and occassionally there is a high pitched whistling from the drivers side. Its as if the door or window seals are not seating good. The whistling sound is intermittent but the wind noise is constant but not annoying. This is not the noise coming from the rear cargo area because of it being open, thats understandable as I have owned many station wagons, but it is a distinct wind noise coming from the drivers side. Any one else notice or have this problem.
  • princeofgolfprinceofgolf Member Posts: 5
We have 1200Km ours and have owned it about 4 weeks. Issues? The gearshift does not position into the park mode that well, so when we attempt to turnoff and remove the key out of the ignition,it will not come out unless we fiddle around with the shifter to lock it into park. Seatbelt drivers side doesn't retract, and also rear and side mirrors defrost switch does not work. One other problem we have experienced, is that the lights illuminating the dash will periodically not come on. One thing that I'm not sure of is that on slick surfaces my Kia will hesitate slightly, it's almost as if the revs increase, then the Kia will proceed. The tires are not spinning it almost feels like a sloppy "U joint" kind of thunk/delay thing. Have scheduled an appointment with our service department to have these issues resolved.

My Sorento has about 1800 miles on it and is about 4 1/2 weeks old. The only fault I have noticed so far is that the AM radio reception was poor.
At first I checked the antenna rod and found that it was not very tight in the mounting, so I tightened it and thought that the problem was solved. But when I hit a few potholes, the poor reception returned. I figured either the antenna base was not securely grounded to the body or the antenna lead was loose in the radio. When I rapped on the top of the dash, the reception got better. Eureka- loose antenna lead at the radio. I was going to wait and let the dealer fix it when I brought the Sorento in for the first oil change, but then I received the service manuals that I ordered. It looked (and was) pretty easy to get at the radio, so I removed the center stack side trim and surround. Sure enough, the antenna plug was in the receptacle, but when I pulled it, it came right out. I re-inserted it and pushed it hard until it seated with a "click". AM radio reception is now excellent.
I am probably going to have the local dealer perform the first oil change next week- I have a coupon for $19.95 from them. The selling dealer, will do the first oil change for free, but he is over 150 miles away. I know this oil change is not specified in the maintenance schedule, but many vehicles specify an early oil change to ensure that any casting sand (used in the manufacture of the engine block)is taken out of circulation. I feel that this is especially important since the Sorento oil filter is so tiny-about the size of those on many single cylinder garden tractors.
I have bought other new vehicles and the Sorento has been the most problem-free from the gitgo. Hope this is a sign of things to come!

I had to take a moment to say again how much I love my Sorento. Around 300 miles now and not a single problem.

Yesterday a man was eyeballing my EX in a parking lot and I said, "it's really a great car." He replied that it looked just like a Lexus RX300. Then I said, "yea, at HALF the price." In fact I like the styling in the front and side BETTER than the Lexus which to my eyes is more slabby on the side and squatty . I already mentioned before that my UPS driver stopped me and said, "oh, you got a new Lexus!"

The Sorento is the best kept secret. A GREAT vehicle at a GREAT price. I haven't seen another one on the road yet around here and everytime I see an Escape, Tribute and all the other uninspiring small and midsized SUVs I just think to myself, they could have had a Sorento! I LOVE the headrests tilting forward on the EX to cradle the back of my head...SO many other vehicles neglect this comforting feature. The seats are very comfy and the heated feature is welcome even here in san diego. The 10 speaker 280 watt EX stereo is INCREDIBLE. Ford would charge you another $600 bucks for it - STANDARD on the Sorento EX! The gas mileage is way better than the sticker suggested too...17 city not 15. Kia needs to resubmit the Sorento for their mileage rating because someone shafted them on that!

I've owned Porsches, Xterras, Explorers, Mercedes M class, PT Cruisers, 4Runners, Jaguars, Monteros, BMWs and various other vehicles large and small, pricey and decent bargains. right now I am VERY HAPPY with my Sorento! you can't beat it for the money!

lok888- The Sorento service manual isn't much help if you want to look up the standard trade numbers (e.g.- 1157, 9004, H3, etc.) for the bulbs in the vehicle. It simply lists the wattages. It seems relatively easy to eyeball the bulbs by removing the headlight/turn signal and tail/stop/turn/backup light lens/reflector assemblies. Three screws for the front unit, two for the rear. But for your information, here are the listed wattages-
    Headlight- 55W (hi), 55W (lo){strange- same wattage}
    Front turn signal 28W/8W
    Front position (marker) lamp- 5W
    Fog lamp- 28W
    Tail/Stop lamp- 8W/27W
    Backup lamp- 27W
    Turn signal- 27W
    Rear position (marker)- 5W
    License lamp- 5W
I believe that the 8W/27W and 28W/8W are not standard in the U.S. and suspect that the more common 5W/27W (if I remember correctly)has probably been substituted. Unless these specs are a misprint- one of many in the manual.

We're in the Boston area and starting a search for a Sorento EX with the Luxury package. Looking for feedback on where you purchased, price, and your experience with the dealer/salesman. We do alot of camping/fishing, so also looking for any off-road feedback and cargo space.

    Thanks!

We got Ours Nov 21, EX TOD, It has 3,500 miles.
We had the dealer do the Oil change at 3000, they said the 1st was free, but not if we used mobil 1.
We asked for mobil 1. not free but they washed and cleaned it for free.
So far no problems. Like hciaffa, my wife does most of the driving, 60 miles daily, but when I drive it, I try everything. It's quiet, no problems, the MPG average is 15 since we got it.
The wind noise seems to be louder if you drive against the wind but not too bad.

I have not post much lately, but I sure keep up with the reading.
I had a spare key made at a locksmith, $5.00, and it works fine on the door and ignition. the model: ILCO X267 KK4.
We have the tow pack, I'm waiting for the "new" package so we can tow 5500lb like the rest of the world...

I just wanted to let you know how great the Sorento has been in the extreme cold we've been having up here. By extreme I mean highs of -25 (day) and lows of -35 / 40 (night). These reading are in Celsius. I'm happy I opted for 5W30 at my last oil change.

The heating system works well as do all the other defrosters (front, side, back).

    I am truly impressed...

I direct this post to LX owners in particular because this model has no body side moulding. My an@l retentiveness paid off in a big way when I installed the side moulding from a BMW X5 (see message #1060) a couple of months back. A couple of days ago in the company parking lot I was pulling in to a spot when an Neon pulled up on my passenger side. The guy was evidently in a hurry and swung the door open quite forcefully. It landed with a solid thud on my passenger door. I, of course jumped out of my car and after a few expletives to the jerk checked out the damage. As I had hoped, the body side moulding took the door ding. All I have is a scuffed moulding as opposed to a very expensive ding.

Just thought I would pass this on.

    Cheers!

jayma - I bought my fully loaded Sorento EX 4WD with Luxury package, ABS, spoiler, Auto Leveling and cargo tray for $26K at Quirk Kia. I began my internet price check since November, right after I saw the Sorento at New England Auto Show. Since then there were few dealers willing to give me a quote. Some of them insisted me to come to the dealer for test drive first. Few of them were just B.S. and saying this is a high demand vehicle.
I first interested in EX with 4WD only. They quoted $23K. Then I decided to want more features. I didn't want the Auto Leveling. But this factory installed feature came with this beige Sorento. They sold this feature to me at dealer cost ($440).
My salesman called me not long ago. He told the dealer is trying to discount this vehicle less than before. By the way, Kia offers 0% for 24 months, 2.9% for 36 months and 4.9 for 60 months (offer ends 1/31/03). Good luck!

My 7-week-old Sorento EX 4WD has 1800 miles. I found no problem with it. It is a great car. But I still don't get out of 15 mph. Since this is a truck based SUV, I feel more bumps on uneven roadway (not even a pothole).

So far, my Sorento has been through two Noreaster snow storms and the recent frigid temparture. The heated seats work very well.

I only washed my Sorento twice since December. I first hand washed it when the temparture. was still in the 40s in early December. I washed it for the second time at one of those express wash place. It wasn't really a great good. Couple guys use brush to clean the wheels and lower cladding. After the wash, it turned out it still missed many spots. Anyway, the new car smell is fading but it is still there. I smell leather more than the new car smell. Happy motoring!

Looked at the EX with luxury package at Bonneville Kia in Manchester, NH right off Rt93. They have several with luxury package and are selling them several thousand below MSRP. Sales people were great. I did not buy because I really need to be able to tow over 3,500 lb. Nice vehicle and nice price. Good luck.

TOW HITCH: The tow rating of 3500 pounds is not a vehicle limit, it is the hitch design itself. Kia claims to be sourcing a better one that will raise the rating to 5500 pounds. I will put a hitch on mine but don't need it until summer, so I'll wait and see if anything better comes out.

LIGHT BULB RATINGS: Hey, I noticed looking around the engine the other day that the light bulb numbers are molded into the plastic on either side right by the bulb connectors. There are several numbers there - maybe they are the elusive trade numbers...

COLD WEATHER: Glad to hear the Sorento is doing well in the cold. I spend a fair amount of time in the Colorado mountains and I have a little idea what you mean by -20F temperatures. We haven't had much winter here in the last few years, but those days will be back I'm sure.

MANUAL: brooklyn1951, since you own the manual, it looks like you're the local expert :) I have a question - what's up with the spark plugs? Are they difficult to get to? It doesn't look real bad but I'm curious what the manual procedure looks like. Also, did you buy the manuals from the dealer and what do you think of the quality? I'm sure I'll buy them sooner or later, either when maintenance time rolls around or I just get more curious to learn more about the car. I am also considering doing the first oil change at around 1500 miles. Anyone with opinions on this?

      Have fun - Dave

Purchased my EX right before Thanksgiving and just turned 3000 miles. Must say I've been extremely happy and no troubles to report. Getting about 15 city and 18 highway. Been thinking about an early oil and filter change. I'm in south central PA. and things have been kinda cold here for us. Love those heated leather seats !

Spark plug replacement procedure in the Sorento service manual consists of 2 steps-

" 1. Disconnect the spark plug cable from the spark plug."
"2.Using the spark plug wrench, remove all of the spark plugs from the cylinder head."

As you can see, there is not a lot to help you. The spark plugs are located under a cover on the top of the cylinder head. Cylinders #2,4 & 6 have the ignition coils (3) mounted directly to the plug (coil on plug ignition)- but there is also a spark plug cable that leads from each coil, through a space in the cover, over to the cylinder head for cylinders #3,5 & 7. The manual makes no mention of this. In fact, the manual makes no mention of several things that would seem useful AND wastes space stating the obvious such as the instructions 1 and 2 above. If the Kia Sorento was built like the manual was written, I would have bought another SUV! I can't recommend the Sorento manual. But I think that it is unlikely that Chilton, Haynes or Bentley will publish a Sorento manual anytime soon- if at all. I purchased the manuals (Service & Electrical) from Helm. The address and part numbers are listed at the back of the owner's manual. They are a distributor, not the publisher.
I leave you all with a quote from the ABS chapter-
"2. Though there is no alarm, instrument for P-valve by which may alway be informed so that drive cannot know whether or not of failure trouble, in which case body spin may be generated if taken a sudden braking under condition of failure situation, in case of EBD failure trouble, the existing parking brake lamp is lighted to alarm EBD failure situation to driver so that driver can repair."

This is exactly as written. I think it would be easier to learn to speak Korean and buy those service books. 'Nuff said.

Mark Jerrick @ SI Subaru/Isuzu/Kia. Great guy to deal with. I believe 1 or 2 people on here have bought from him. I bought my subaru and Isuzu from him and have great service.
