Great to hear from such enthusiastic new owners!

txblue, I think you're right about letting the 'newness' wear off :) Although after two months and 5 days, I can still detect the new car smell. I hope it never goes away!

jenifern, thanks for sharing your thoughts! Yes, it's definitely a delight to hear from a lady! I'm curious (but mainly too lazy to walk out to the garage and read the manual)...in what way is the manual wrong about the defrosters? I think I've figured out how to use all of them, but maybe I'm overlooking one of the features. I haven't had a chance to test the front wiper deicers (doesn't get cold enough out here in California), but everything else seems to work fine...and quickly too!

Glad to hear you're getting over 20 mpg. I'm stuck slightly below that (highest has been 19.8). Guess I need to ease up on gas...or leave for the office at 3 am!

Dave, I definitely have not felt any vibrations in the steering wheel. My noise really does seem to be coming from the transmission. So I guess we're noticing different conditions. I think both you and txblue are right, in that it's not an issue...just new owners being hyper-sensitive :)
  • schip1schip1 Member Posts: 97
lok888, you said, "I thought once you set the temp. and the heating or cooling will kick in when temp falls or ups, like heating and cooling system at home."

Well, actually, I think this is exactly what the ACC is doing...at least ours seems to work this way:) Whether the auto function is engaged or not, as long as the 'OFF' button hasn't been pressed, I've found the ACC unit to maintain the temperature I've set. When set to full-auto, the ACC automatically: 1) changes the fan speed, 2) sets the direction of the air, 3) and maintains the temperature. As I've previously mentioned, I rather set #1 and #2 manually, but #3 still functions regardless. The ACC on our Infiniti works the same way. I hope yours does also.

schip1 - Low speed noise? I am not sure about this. However, I noticed something when I shift from Park to Drive mode (P to N to D). It is not a noise or vibration. Once I engage to the Drive mode and start to drive the car, I feel something when I accelerate. This thing properly last for half a second. It seems like the transmission is engaged or 4WD system. BTW, I have the EX with 4WD. I also have T.O.D. but I don't think this caused by the T.O.D. because this is happen even on the dry and smooth surface. I will try this one more time with the window down (properly head out the window) to hear if there is any noise. And I will try drive the car with Auto (4x4) and 4Lo mode.
  • drieddried Member Posts: 36
Thanks schip1 for checking. I think you're right on all accounts. Noise is coming from trans and I'm being hypersensitive too. I feel/hear it, and by the description, it sounds like it's the same thing everyone else hears. It doesn't worry me at all, it's just interesting to discover some of the design details of the car. I've never owned a car this quiet, so it's like a new world for me in some ways.

lok888 - what you describe is exactly what hear, or rather feel. I have the EX 4WD, but no T.O.D. I really don't see it as an issue and I swear I read somewhere that it has something to do with the speed sensitive steering mechanics, but I can't find that info back. My recollection is that the LX demo car did not have it.

By the way, if anyone has the tow package on their Sorento, can you tell me if it accepts a 2 inch receiver, or 1 1//4 inch (basically what size is the hole)? - thanks.

    Anyway - happy motoring!

dried - I will go to the service for the mug guards this weekend. Since I ordered it when I bought my car few weeks ago, they will install it for me at no change. Anyway, it is just a DIY job. When I go there, I will ask them many questions as I can. The thing that I described, I doubt it is the speed sensitive steering. But maybe I am wrong. For the hesitation at 2 to 3K RMP, the only thing I noticed is the slow pick up or acceleration, especially on uphill roads or on ramp. It is because of the under powered engine and the weight of the vehicle. But once the car passed 30 to 40 mph, the RMP will drop from 3 to 2K RMP. And the car is running as fast as any other compact cars. I don't race my car but I can tell I have passed many Accords and Focus.

schip1: Thanks! I enjoy participating here.
With regards to the oil, I used 5W30 because it remains more fluid (less viscous) which, during cold weather starts, helps reduce engine wear because it takes less time to warm up the oil and make it fluid. When we go down to -15 C a 5W30 will be less 'solid', if I can use that term, than a 10W30 oil. An oil that warms up easier is working faster at coating the cylinder walls. However, I switch back to 10W30 for summer driving for the exact opposite reasons. I want a thicker oil during the summer.
As for maintenance, Canada is considered severe.
I guess the weather extremes contribute to this.

lok888: I know the Compustar is more expensive but I swear by it. When I traded in my CRV, I told the dealership, "You can keep the mags, CD changer and sound system but I want my Compustar."

If you do go with Compustar make sure the installer knows what he's doing. It took me and Fred, the chap who installed my system, close to 4 hours despite the fact that he's an electronics genius who's installed thousands of car alarm/starters. The Sorento is a new vehicle and few people know the ins and outs of this SUV compared to a Chevy Cavalier or Honda Accord.

As you mentioned, the compustar allows you to add features like being able to roll down your windows etc... . I didn't opt for anything extra because all the functionality I want is present in the base installation.

    Cheers!

mikesf - Thanks for the info. If Kia can put the a standard active car alarm system, this will save me a lot of time to look for a good system. I properly go with the Viper or Python. They also have an options for more controls, like window, trunk release. BTW, that also takes you another 4 hours to remove the Compustar from your CR-V. Ok, we expected few inches of snow tonight and tomorrow in Boston. Happy motoring.

Thanks jinifern for your posting. I am also a female Sorento owner...here's to the gals!

I was wondering if anyone had purchased the bra for the Sorento. I checked into getting one, but they are $137. I'm thinking it would look really good on the Sorento, as well as giving it a sporty look. Mine is the gold beige with tinted windows, and I think that would add that extra touch. Does anyone know where you can get them besides through the KIA accessory store, and maybe for a little less dinero?
One more thing...on my way from the garage into my office building, I was stopped by a gentleman so he could tell me what a nice looking vehicle I had. He was curious about it, and wanted to know if I liked it. I told him that it's been great and it's lots of fun to drive. I think people are getting more curious about these things...

Why you did not hear it in the LX: It does not have Speed Sensitive Steering. It has Engine Speed Sensitive steering.

Mikesf, thanks for your thorough explanation regarding the differences between 10W30 and 5W30. However, I think you may have mis-read my original question in #1556. I was referring to 0W30 (that's zero-W30) versus 5W30, not ten-W30. I think 0W30 is a new product from Mobil. My concern is that 0W30 may be too thin, but then, I suppose I shouldn't really need to worry about it going below -15C in California :) On the other hand, Mobil seem to be recommending 0W30 to achieve the highest gas mileage.
  • schip1schip1 Member Posts: 97
txblue, I seem to recall reading in one of the Edmunds' forums, some negative advice regarding bras for cars. I don't recall exactly in which forum, but if I remember correctly, the negative comments took the form of: 1) grit gets under the bra and it can end up scratching the paint, 2) in bad weather, unless you constantly clean it, mold will grow under the bra (road salt doesn't help either), and 3) over the years, the sun will cause a fade line on your hood.

I've never used a bra on any of my cars, so I can't comment from experience. Maybe doing a search for 'cars & bras' will direct you to first-hand comments from actual users.

Lok888: Nah, removal was easy. The hard part was discovering which wires to tap into .

Schip1: Sorry, I thought your 0W30 was a typo for 10W30. I am utterly clueless about the 0W30 oil. Personally I wouldn't go to 0W30 unless I was driving to Alaska. :-) What's next -5W30?

txblue: I too am considering getting the bra but only for extended highway driving. Schip1 is correct. All those nasty things can occur with a bra if you're not careful. I had one years ago on a CRX and never left it on for extended periods. Sure looked good though!

    Cheers!

No problems, Mikesf :) When I re-read my own question, I can easily see how the '1' from Mobil 1, could have been associated with '0W-30', to make it appear to read as '10W-30' !

Anyway, on their website (http://www.mobil1.com), this is the claim that caught my eyes: "Enhanced Fuel Economy Formula...Delivers the best fuel economy in the Mobil 1 line." I didn't notice it during my first visit to their website, but they even have a 0W-40 grade....recommended for European models, so I guess the Sorento doesn't qualify! I think I'll go with 5W-30 for my first Sorento oil change in a couple of weeks.

Dried- The factory installed receiver hitch has a standard 2" square tube. BTW- Kia provides the ball mount (drawbar), hitch pin, clip and receiver tube cover with the hitch.
Supposedly, the Sorento is capable of towing more than the rated 3500 lbs. The weak link is the hitch- and after looking at how it is attached to the frame, I can see why. It wasn't an issue for me since my 5 X 8 box trailer is only rated for 2000 lbs.

schip1 suggested that I post briefly about my experience as a Sedona owner. Other than the 3.5L engine, I'm not sure of the other similarities between the 2 vehicles.

So far, my wife and I are pleasantly surprised at how trouble-free our Sedona has been. We're about 10.5 months and 13,600 miles into ownership of a loaded Sedona EX. In basically 50/50 highway/city driving, our Sedona has averaged about 19.6 MPG.

We've had 2 trips back to the dealer, for a few very minor items.

We like the engine a lot and it works well with the 5-speed automatic. I was a little disappointed to hear that Sorento would have a 4-speed instead of a 5-speed automatic.

Re: the 4WD system in Sorento, I think this Torque-on-Demand (TOD) system is the same system as used in the 1998-2002 Isuzu Troopers. We own a '98 with TOD and have had no problems with the drivetrain at all. From what I've heard from other Trooper owners, the TOD system has been fairly reliable. I'm hoping that some of the concerns about troublesome 4WD operation dissipate as Sorento model year production progresses.

Sorento looks like a nice truck, both inside and out. The pricing shows it to be a good value, but I was slightly disappointed to see the well-equipped 4WD versions stretching to $25k MSRP and beyond.
    Sorry to be so long-winded.

    Dear People,

Just bought an Ex with Luxury package- my first car, largely thanks to this forum. For about $900
I can extend the 5 year drivetrain warranty to 10 years, and for about 75$ have it transferred to a new owner if I sell it. My goal is to keep the car for years, although I'm a sucker for safety technology (side air bags ie) and that could get me selling before 10 years if they come up with good stuff. Can I get some opinions as to whether that warranty is a good idea? (I believe it won't cover things like oil changes)
    Sincerely
    Steve

The other day I called around to several Kia dealers to get a ski rack for my Sorento EX. There was not one to be had anywhere. In any case, I was quoted prices from about $95 to $115 for the rack alone. One dealer told me that I need to purchase "low rider" attachments to mount on my factory roof rack so that I can use the ski rack. These "low rider" gizmos add another $115 to the cost and they appear to be Yakima parts (as is the ski rack). The Kia web site is not clear on the requirement of using the "low rider" mounts. Heck, if the cost of carrying skis is over $200, then I'll by a Yakima cargo box for just a few dollars more.
Does anyone have the Kia accessory ski rack and if so, are the low rider attachments needed?

We were out in Las Vegas for New Years and its good to get back on this board and after renting a Cavalier for a week (didn't realize how crude it is against the Sorento) it was real great to get back into our Sorento and to boot we got back to a blizzard in CT. and 8 inches of snow. While in Las Vegas we noticed only only one Kia dealer and one Sorento on the road. Stopped in to talk to dealer and he mentioned that the Sorento is selling ok there, but only on 2WD not enough bad weather. Biggest rental there is the Hummer H2, renters have a lot of off road to use this vehicle.
On Mobil 1, I have been using Mobil 1 for 10 years now on many of our cars and intend to use it on our Sorento when its gets its oil change in a month. I usually do my own service but at my Kia dealer I get oil changes for free for 10 years as we purchase the extended waranty 100% bumper to bumper.
I prefer 5W30 as it is a good all around oil for my region. For those that care to know the first number is the oil viscosity before start up (5 wieght and W means Winter and the following number is the viscosity of the oil as it reachs engine running temperature) so using a lower winter number dosen't really hurt the engine especilly at start up. In fact many auto manufacturers are going to 0W20 in thier oils to improve the CAFE gas mileage that they have to meet. Personnaly I use 5W30 as it a all around good oil from Mobil 1. Read the back of the bottle to be satisfied and you will see the temperature range for the oil. Also just because its synthetic I still change my oil and filter frequently ( at about 3500 to 4000 miles between changes).
Ok... back to reading, lots of post to catch up. Have a nice day.

We attended the Phoenix auto show yesterday. The Sorento drew small crowds on a regular basis.

People were raving about the build quality (one fellow kept opening and closing the passenger door, in awe over the "solid" feel). I did notice people stopping cold at the mpg listed on the window sticker. Some immediately walked away. The demo was a 4X2 EX with Luxury Package, and the sticker read 15 city, 20 hwy...this seems awfully low...? Price was just under 26K.

The second demo was located a fair distance from the first. This was a 4X2 LX. I found the cloth seats more comfortable than the stiff leather on the EX. Again, there was a crowd around the vehicle, and I kept hearing how great it looked. I couldn't get past two large families reading the sticker, but I assume this one looked more reasonable, because no one was walking away =)

Is the moonroof only available on the EX model? And for those of you who have the 2WD, does it work well in bad weather? We like to visit Flagstaff on occasion, I'm wondering if the 2WD would be enough for the snow up there. I confess to being clueless about driving in snow, so any 2WD vs. 4WD information would be most appreciated.

#1588: thanks for sharing your Sedona experiences with us, bluedevils. I suppose another thing the Sedona and the Sorento have in common is that the vehicles are KIA's first and second attempts at upgrading their lineup and their image. So if the Sedona is a success, the Sorento should be also, as KIA continues to improve.

#1589: steve281 - off the top of my head, I can recall at least 2 other Sorento owners who purchased the 3rd party extended warranty. I can't remember their usernames, but if you have time, do a search or scroll back.....and congrats also on your new purchase!

#1594: welcome back, hciaffa! We were away also, but not as long as you were :( I didn't drive our Sorento for 6 days, and like you, I was having withdrawal pangs! Thanks for info re: Mobil1. I was planning on using 5W-30, but now....hmmm.....may as well go with the 0W-30 to see if I can get passed the 20 mpg barrier!

#1595: beezr, yes....the moonroof is standard on the EX and not available as an option on the LX. Regarding the Sorento's 'low' gas mileage: I haven't done a comparison, but other posters have said Sorento's 15-20 range is comparable to other SUV's. We have a 2WD. The nearest snow is 4 hours away in the Lake Tahoe region. We haven't taken the Sorento up there yet, so can't comment.

    ACCESSORIES:

I finally found someone who already has Sorento dash kits available for sale!

    http://www.wooddash.com/category/KIA_Dash_Kits_SORENTO

$197.00 doesn't seem bad, but I'm not sure I want to cover-up the brush metal with more faux wood.

In #1584, Steve_HOST referred us to the "Car front end protective bras" forum. Several people there referred to a product called X-Pel (http://www.xpel.com/index.html) Seems like an interesting accessory. I e-mailed them to ask whether it's feasible to install X-Pel on side doors, to minimize parking lot nicks.

    Now...back to football!

brooklyn1951 - thanks for the reply on the hitch - exactly what I needed. I read that Kia plans on an upgraded hitch (maybe model year 2003) that will get the rating from 3500 to 5500 pounds, but the 3500 is plenty good for me - I have a 2200 pound box trailer.

Also, I had a couple of fellow engineers look over my Sorento the other day. Showing a new car to guys like this is like dropping your drawers - they are very critical - but I wanted their opinion. One guy used to work at Honda and is very knowledgeable about automotive design/build quality. He had very favorable comments all the way around. He looked for flash moulding on plastic parts, engine component and harness layouts, vibration clearances, suspension, etc, etc, and I came away feeling pretty good about what they had to say - not much to pick on really. Folks, we have a great car here.

Anyway - thought I'd pass that on to all current and potential owners.

Dave, that's TERRIFIC feedback! It's one thing to be impressed when looking at the Sorento through the rose-colored glasses of us owners (and in my case, a non-engineer), but such high praise from your 'critical' co-workers....well....it's...it's comforting :)
  • steve_onsteve_on Member Posts: 70
Just back from LA Auto Show.

Staff there says that Kia is currently testing 5 speed auto, from Sedonda?, in the Sorento and may be seen in the '04 model. Might take the MPG up to what 22 or higher?

A couple of people were interested in replacing the stock Sorento headlights with Xenon or bright-white headlights, but could not locate the style type in the owner's manual, which only says it's 55 watts. I stumbled upon the info while poking around under the hood. It's an H7; the info is imprinted on the rubber gasket above the headlights, directly under the hood. It's black on black, just about impossible to see, unless you know exactly where to look.

There's also another set of notations, but I don't know what they mean. On the left side, it's "L<-->R" and on the right side, it's "R<-->L". For headlight alignment maybe?
  • mikesfmikesf Member Posts: 84
Thanks for the info regardingt he headlights. I was going to take out one of the bulbs when the weather got warmer, around mid-april :-) to find out what kind of bulb we have in the Sorento. I am thinking of getting bright whites but the stock lights are so good I wonder if it's just me trying to find an excuse to spend money.

    Cheers!

For schip1 or anyone interested, the products that they make generaly are for protecting areas with a clear heavy mil plastic suchs as the front end of the engine hood, the door sills to prevent scuffing and such. They are really known for making headlight protection. This is a precut thick mil gauge clear vinyl that covers the headlight and fog lights. It protects against stones and other things thrown up at the headlights. And with the Sorento haveing those large headlamps they could get costly if damaged. I plan to get a set for our Sorento as soon as they come out with a set. I already have a set on my Ranger. By the way they do not yellow.

Finally have my Kia service to install the mug guards on the weekend. I ordered them when I bought my Sorento. So they installed them for me at no charge. Anyway, it's a DIY job. The mug guards are shorter than I expected. They look like for cars than SUV. I really like the mug guards on Benz ML320. I think the one on Sorento just for look. Also talked the friendly service people at this Quirk Chevy Kia service. About the oil change, they can use Mobil 1 and it costs about $58.00 compare to $28.00 for the regular oil. They won't let me use my own oil. And my mechanic who works on my Accord charge $48.00 but don't know if he knows there are two skid plates to remove. I think $58.00 is not expensive consider two oil changes per year (every 6000 miles and drive 10K to 12K per year). It is about the same cost for four $28.00 oil changes. But it adds more protection on car.

hciaffa - Welcome back! Do you have more info on the protecting tapes? Web site? Do you know how strong they are. I think the company sells WeatherTech mats also sell a custom fitted headlight protecting tape for some vehicles, (www.mats.com) not for Sorento yet. My concern is the fog lights. They are kinda low to the ground. And I think the fog lamp lens assembly cost $100 each if you break one, according to the pricing info on www.kiausaparts.com This site breaks down all the parts & accessories info with part number and MSRP for Sorento and other Kia vehicles.
shcip1 - Thanks for the info on the light bulbs. I am planning to replace the stock one with those H.I.D. look light bulbs.

Out and about today I stopped in at a locksmith to see if he has any key blanks to fit the Sorento. Boy I tellyou that as in any business or trade you find some people that don't know jack on whatthey do and some that are helpfull and friendly and take the time to go a little deeper into chekig things out. This fellow first check to see if it haf a chip and or a module sensor in the fob head. Nothing showed up in the test though he mentioned after lookinginto his manual that many keys hae a RF transpoderin the key fob head that signals a computer under the dash. It is probably an option and according to him it is big in Canada but again its an option on some other Kia models. But the good part was he was able to track a blank key to match the Sorento key and its a Hyundia blank. So he cut it and since my wife had the Sorento I took the key home to try and it worked so tomorrow I will get a couple more. In case you guys wish to have a key made the blank number is X232 HY12 and the key manufacture is ILCO.
lok888... the web site for X-pel is www.xpel.com, they offer many pre cut protective headlight covers and some you can cut yourself.

hi all. pulled the string on a new alpine gray EX 2wd (weighs 198 pounds LESS than a 4wd - which means 4wd owners are driving around 24/7 with a football player like Jeff Garcia stuffed with doughnuts in your Kia. LOL) with cargo tray, luxury package, spoiler and abs. i originally was interested in aqua blue but decided the look was a little too soccer mom and went for the monochromatic alpine gray. paid $400 under dealer's invoice which came out to $23000 plus tax and license. window sticker was $25400 so i got it for $1900 under msrp! a great deal and from the closest dealer to my house (about two miles)! they had it in the showroom with the stock wheels chromed but are swapping them back to a stock set because they wanted $1500 for four. i liked them but not at THAT price! Instead i will have all 5 chromed myself at chromeyourwheels.com for $99 each plus shipping which is just one day by UPS from me, so it won't be much! picking it up on thursday. SUWEEET. am moving from a 2002 Xterra SE SC 4x4 btw. a VERY NICE ride too, but i get a new vehicle every year and this year it's the SORENTO baby!!

I just noticed something on my Sorento EX. When I press "Unlock" button on the keyless remote control and without open any doors, the doors will automatic lock by themselves possible in about 20 to 30 seconds. One day, I was trying to unlock the doors when I came out from the shopping mall. I guess I waited more than 20 to 30 seconds before open the door. All the doors were locked automatically. It works like the aftermarket auto alarm system but it is not. However, the doors will not locked automatically when you are existing the vehicle and close all the doors. In addition, the passenger door lock release button or handle also works as the power door lock switch. The remote control works fine even when I press "Unlock" from my in-law 15th floor apartment building (approx. 8 ft for each floor = 120 ft). I thought the owner's manual referred 50 feet.

I am new to 4WD. I just learned the I have to put in vehicle in neutral and turn the 4WD switch to 4WD Lo on my Sorento 4WD with T.O.D.. It happened when I accidentally put it in 4WD Lo. My car was driving very slow (approx. no more than 30 mph with high RPM). And I couldn't turn it back to normal. I was nerve that I would do something to the car. I pulled over and called the Kia toll free number. The lady answered my car (I don't know why, but they will ask you the VIN or your name and address) and seemed not very knowledgeable. She had to refer to the owner's manual. Somehow, I figure how the 4WD operate while talking to her. No further assistant needed. Anyway, I have to shift the car in neutral (stop the car first) in order to engage in 4WD Lo and get out of the 4WD Lo. I thought I can just turn the switch when driving. When doing this, you will fell a shake and hear a noise when the system is engage.
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Yes in almost all 4wd systems you need to be stopped and in neutral to get into 4wd-LO. You are changing the gearcase when you do that and therefore need to be stopped and in neutral. This is the case with all but the most expensive ($55K> SUVs) systems.

    -mike
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
paisan - Thanks! I first thought this shift-on-the-fly 4WD system don't require any stopping, like just shift when driving. Then I realized this is impossible. It properly damage the gear case or transmission if I can do this. Anyway, for other part-time 4WD vehicles (4Hi, 4Lo and 2Hi), do I also need to stop and in neutral?

On shift on the fly systems I've used, you can go into the "hi" system on the fly but not LO. All of them require you to go to neutral to shift down to low-range. I think this is because when you are in 2wd, the hi-gear range in the T-case is actually engaged just not connected @ diffy or hubs, so when you "engege" the 4-hi from 2-hi, you are just locking in the driveshaft that was spinning already, whereas with 4-lo you are physically changing the gear inside the t-case that is being used.

I have full time 4WD and only have Auto and 4Lo. So I think the 4Lo works like 1st gear (not even the 2nd). And I could only drive it 20 to 25 mph.
I think this is good when pulling car from mud or snow, or maybe some light off-roading. Thanks for the info.

Have been checking around more regarding getting the factory 16" EX wheels chromed and found a place close to me here in San Diego that charges just $65 per wheel!! Awesome price and they offer the same 1 Year guarantee that everyone else seems to offer. This is good for me because I can drop them off one at a time in person without paying any shipping fees and all five will only cost $325! But even if you live elsewhere and have to pay shipping it's still a great deal. The place is called something like All Star Polishing and Plating and apparently all they do are car and truck wheels. Their number is 619-440-3806. I will be checking them out next week.

You can use 4-lo in ANY gear. Basically all it does is double the torque and double (I think it's actually 2.1X) so that at any given RPM you will be turning the wheels with ~2x as much torque and 1/2 the speed. So if you normally tach at say 3000RPMs in 4th @ 40mph, in 4-lo at 40mph you'll be taching 6000rpms.

Yesterday a ski rack arrived for me at the Kia dealer. As I thought, it was a Yakima rack (in a Yakima box). However, the rack alone can not be mounted to your Sorento's factory roof rack. The ski rack mounts to tubular (round) Yakima cross bars (approx. $40) which then have to be fastened to Yakima low rider towers (approx. $115). These towers mount to the slide rails on the Sorento's roof rack. The ski rack is set up for locks, but they are not included ($.??). All totaled, more than $250 for a ski rack- and one that isn't even as wide as the width of the Sorento's slide rail spacing. This setup might be worth it to you if you intend on purchasing other Yakima accessories, such as a bike carrier or cargo basket since these items require the towers and cross bars as well. But for ski rack use only, no way.
I guess that I will buy a Yakima (Space Booster) or Thule (Frontier) cargo pod for about $230. At least they have multiple uses- skiis, cargo, lumber, baseball bats, etc.

This is my first post everyone, so hello. I have an all Black LX which I waited patiently to buy back in late November. Well the dealership finally got one, it was beautiful and I bought it. So far, at 1669 miles, NO problems! Anyway, as most of you know, the LX's stereo system isnt quite as nice as the EX's, so I'm wanting to upgrade to an aftermarket stereo system. Has anyone out there done any stereo upgrades to their Sorento...LX or EX? Since the model is new, I run into alot of "we dont have the kit for that car yet" situations at stereo shops. Anyone out there with similar situations?

hicaffa - Did you figure which is leather and which is vinyl? I think the Armor All leather wipes is a good choice. I first thought the Pledge because the label said good on wood, leather, and vinyl. But I think it should has some kind of pH balance on leather. The Pledge may damage the leather or make the leather aging fast. Any suggestions?

You'll also notice that if your doors are locked when driving they will automatically unlock when you turn the engine off.

    What a great SUV.... :-)

Brooklyn1951, roof rack prices are nuts. The only thing I can figure is the R&D for coming up with new clips and towers all the time for the new cars drives up Thule and Yak's prices. Good luck shopping for a ski rack.

This may seem an odd question, but the only thing that displeases me about my new Sorento is that I like to see better out the back for the zillion malls in town I'll be parking in and don't want tinting in the back and side rear windows. Is it possible for Kia to undo it? Just bought the car with luxery package last week..
Any suggestions on increasing rear visibility?

    Thanks
    Steve
