Does anybody else wish that the ignition was on the steering column...so the keys don't jingle all the time?
"Does anybody else wish that the ignition was on the steering column...so the keys don't jingle all the time"
I've had a 2005 now for just over a week. The other day I'm driving and I hear this "click click click" sound...so I start paying more attention...It won't go away...I'm starting to get aggitated and figure something's loose on the body or the shocks, or some other thing... you know what goes through your head when you can't isolate a sound right?
My wife says, what's your problem? I say, that damn clicking noise is driving me nuts.... she says, "It's your keys!!!" The keyless entry device was rocking back and forth bouncing off the lower dash!! lol.... So yes, I sympathize with you. Nothing that a little foam with tape on one side can't fix... cut it out about 1" x 1" and stick to the area so even if keys hit, you won't hear the clicking off the dash console...
Cheers!!
How is your 5 speed trans.? Does it have a smoother shift from 1st to 2nd?
The tranny runs very smooth.... popped it into sports mode a couple times for a little fun. Oerall, it's been about 10 days that I've had the car and I am pleased. It's very fun to drive.
Cheers
Yes, the window in the dash you are referring to indicates what gear you are in. When in fully automatic, the D P N appears and when you flip to sports mode, gears 1 through 5 illuminate.
The digital clock is more towards the driver's side and next to it is the passenger air bag indicator....it tells you it's off when there is no passenger and it comes on when it senses weight on the seat.
Any ideas?

Like all the pics you have of your Sorento off road over there in the States; got a few of my own here, not on the rocks but up to the cills in mud if you're interested.
Also interested in your comments regards lifting the belly / getting better ground clearance, since the UK version is also quite low - I guess it ain't a lot different from those sold over there in the US.
I've also put a different autocooler under body protection plate on - a result of landing on the autocooler last April - cost me over £500.00 sterling to get it repaired at the garage, then a mate & I welded up the protection plate over 2 days for a little less than £50.00!!! (I have pictures if you or anyone else is interested - it consists of 6mm steel plate, a bit of scaffold pole, some steel box section, some steel angle iron, a couple of 22mm diameter bolts & a bit of the old tin as side skirts)
Thanks

I'm planning on getting the OME lift kit soon and doing the additional Daystar lift also.
Can you answer a few questions regarding your experience with the lift?
Did the OME struts come with all new upper hardware?
Was the Dayatar front spring spacer kit made for the Toyota Tacoma/Tundra (and fit your Kia perfectly)for any particular year Tacoma/Tundra?
Finally, were the studs in the Kia spring seat that need to be removed to install the Daystar kit's longer studs/bolts, screwed into the seat, welded, or pressed into the spring seat-was it hard to remove them?
Your rig looks great and thanks for any help you can give.
Mark
By the way, we are getting better mileage with our '05 Sorento LX RWD than we ever did with the '02 Jeep Liberty. I plan on modifying the intake and exhaust to punch it up a bit, though.
Low mileage EX 4x4 Sorento's are going thru the auctions faster than Ted Kennedy is losing his memory ..... $19,500.? no earthshaker there .. with leather, slider and with the abs, they're only doing the low $17's at the auctions on a reeeeal good day ... $18,5/$18,9 would just about kill em' on the Retail side .....
Terry.
I paid $17,800 for an '04 LX, stick, Sport Package. I'm in So. California and could not get a decent deal on an '05 with a stick from a local dealer because they had to "bring one in". Got a call back from one dealer who obtained a Company car from Kia Headquarters in Irvine CA-never registered, 9715 miles. Part of the deal was a Comprehensive Extended Coverage Service Plan which basically extends the 5/60,000 bumper to bumper warranty to 7/100,000.
Terry.
The question is, do YOU want a manual?
With a value of $15 and an asking price of $16,900, you ought to get this one done for $16 or a touch over... that's 80 cents per mile discount from the real-world price.
I'm all for buying new, but in this case, I'd consider making an exception.
Dunno nuthin' bout Kia's, though...

Willing to purchase to purchase online either a downloadable maual or get posted a CD or hardcopy. Anyone help in my quest for information to do some much needed compatible 2-4" suspension lift or snorkel search.

Sorry, I don't check this message board very often any more.
If you've got pics, send 'em! I like to see what others are doing with their Sorentos offroad.

As far as the skid plates go, the factory ones were worthless. I spent alot of money to have some made up, and believe me, they were worth every penny!
For the OME stuff, I used the factory top plate and bolts. The OME stuff is just the shock. The Daystar spacer I put on also include the longer top studs and new bolts. Once disassembled, they're pertty easy to bang out the old ones with a hammer and put in the new, longer ones.
Just make sure you pay close attention to the left/right orentation on the front struts! That notch is where the upeer a-arm comes down next to the strut. I got them backwards, and after getting one on, I realized my mistake, and had to take everything apart and switch them out. And since I paid a shop to assemble the struts, as I didn't have a spring compressor, it was double the charge!
I just ordered a 1 inch strut spacer for an 04 Toyota Tacoma/Tundra. Probably no difference in the late model years.
My next thing I need to do is a body lift, either 1 or 2 inch. That again will have to be homemade. Then that should do it for a while, at least.
OME and Daystar on their way! I also ordered a MacPherson strut spring compressor to do the job. You are absolutely right about the left/right strut thing. I have a factory service manual and it depicts the correct orientation of the struts clearly.
3.8 with 240hp and 250 ft lbs. Seems a natural.
More on the oil wars in Engine Oil - A slippery subject Part 2.

Personally, I have conducted much research on this and it appears that the oil companies and service providers want us to believe we need to change our oil more often to increase their profits.
It kinda like putting premium gas in your car when it only needs regular.
Also, don't forget to change the diff oil. I switched out both front and rear axles to Mobil 1 synth gear oil. I also recently changed the tranny fluid, and the transfer case oil.
I don't know about your vehicles, but I had gear oil in my transfer case, and the manual says to use Detxron III (tranny fluid) Called the dealer - they said replace with what was in there. There seems to be a MAJOR problem with the owners manual if it is calling for tranny fluid in something that requires gear oil
2021 Kia Soul LX 6-speed stick
Phoenixrider, did you buy your Sorento new? If so someone may have goofed up on the factory fill. If not, some one put the wrong oil in. I would put the ATF in the transfer case. For the longest time New Process/New Venture has used ATF in most of their chain driven transfer cases (NP208, NV231, NV241, NV271). The Borg Warner transfer case in the Kia is built just like a New Venture transfer case. It, like a New Venture, has an oil pump that provides for lubrication of the unit. This pump pulls oil through a filter. That filter is not designed to pass thick gear oil. You could be oil starving your transfer case! Because the Kia low range is provided by a planetary gearset, the kind of gearing in an automatic transmission which has relatively light gear tooth loading, and the power transfer to the front driveshaft is by chain, which actually likes thin oil, thick gear oil is not required. The ATF will flow well when cold and is robust enough to lubicate this type of transfer case well when hot.
well at least when the last bolt came out of each they did not fall on my hand a and crush a finger or two, LOL !
