Oh, you scooped me, big time. ;-)

A dealer in another thread just confirmed that info and mentioned they are now available for order.

Note that you can get a LOT of variety, so it's not a one color only special edition, it is a full line of cars.

Follow my link and go up about 2 posts, you'll see the details about how you can order it and what equipment is optional.

    -Base
    -Base w/navigation
    -Grand Touring
    -Grand Touring w/navi
    -Grand Touring w/moonroof
    -Grand Touring w/navi & moonroof

(Grand Touring includes Leather, advanced keyless entry/start, pwr driver seat, heated seats and heated mirrors.)

20% build of base model apx $29K
80% build of Grand Touring apx $31K

    33% moonroof
    25% navigation

Basically they made Nav a stand-alone option, something Subaru is rumored to do for the Legacy within a year or so.

Moonroof is a stand-alone option on the GT, but N/A on the base turbo. But you can get leather without a moonroof.

So basically their packaging is a little more flexible than the Legacy GT's, plus they offer Nav.

The only thing the Leg offers is heated seats on the base/cloth model.

It's going down hard unless they put some cost controls in place. Too bad they're so slow to do that... maybe it's not too late, though.

Mazda 6 AWD. I don't like the idea of the rear diffy being water cooled. Something seems a bit fishy with that.

someone should drop a note to the folks at Subdriven... the two ESX cars are pictured in the article in the reverse order of which they are mentioned.

it might cause confusion to some as to which is the 'street' car and which is the tube-chassis racer.

    good link, interesting comments!

Due to a completely unexpected divorce and all that goes along with it, I've been out of commission for a while. The fog of emotions is starting to clear. I hope to be around here more often.

Congratulations to all the new GT owners, all new owners, actually. I am probably within 3-6 months of buying something Subaru. I sure would like to hear something about Legacy Sti's and/or turbo Flat 6's in the new B9X as I would expect that to be the engine in the Legacy Sti.

Pat, your daughter looks fantastic for all she's been through. I feel badly that some of my delay in getting back to you during her medical adventures was due to being right in the middle of all the ugliness that comes with a divorce.

Paisan, how is the Legacy running? What have you modified lately?

Hopefully I can announce a new car to go along with my new, yet unwanted, life, very soon.

    Take care everyone.

Don't even think about it, you had your own problems to deal with, hopefully like our daughter you are on your way back up too.

      Cheers Pat.

Nice picture Pat, glad things are looking up.

Spent a week and a half in San Francisco and Monterey. Got upgraded to a Prius after the guy before me refused to take it. He was looking at my like I was crazy to consider driving it, and said, "There's no way I'm driving that thing."
Well, overall I must say that I was impressed with the technology. It's no WRX, but it could adequately accelerate from 60-75, and certainly no worse than my Sister-in-Law's 4cyl Camry. Very roomy and comfortable drive. Got about 51mpg overall, so no complaints there. Especially impressive given that much was nose to tail highway crawl (I took over an hour to travel 18miles on the 101 South the day I arrived). I suspect that is the strong suit of the hybrid design. Incredibly quiet even cruising at 70.
There is a funny lag when you punch it, especially from a standstill - first you hear the engine rev-up and nothing happens for about a second or so, and then acceleration begins - think really bad turbo lag. Braking was horible. Barely touching the brakes had the car lurch to a stop. Is this due to power reclaimed during braking?? Must have looked like an idiot as the car porpoised while I parallel parked.
It has the turning radius of a minivan and it feels like about 5 turns lock to lock. No idea why.
HAL is not alone, within about 30 minutes I had given up fighting with the ACC and ran manual. Tried again later in the week and gave up even sooner.

Read a USA today article about that big investment guru from the eighties (forget his name, always thought he looked a little like Andy Warhol). Anyway he was talking about investment strategies and gave an example of how he bought and held Subaru. It was a successful niche producer with a loyal client base and produced a relatively unique product (awd cars). He has since sold out, because they are no longer distinctive in the marketplace. Food for thought.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    When did he sell?

If he sold in 1995, that was a dumb decision. Sales have nearly doubled since then.

Prius is interesting in that the handling and braking are sort of poor, but it doesn't really matter much to owners because that's not the priority here.

Some how I think hybrids are given license to be not-as-good in those areas. Narrow low rolling resistance tires, for instance.

    MPV also? That's strange.

But yet the Passat and A4 are recommended - I thought the coil pack issue was the kiss of death??

Remember, it's based on CR readers responses.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Once all the coil packs are replaced, though, the new surveys show the complaints stop. So new models are recommended.

I'm not sure how it affects used, though.

  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
juice - I get that the new ones are fine but according the that article, it uses 3 years worth of data to make recommendations on 05 models. A coworker was bitten twice by the coil pack issue. If asked (since he falls into the 3 year window) he'd say his 1.8 was the most unreliable ever.

    Who knows I guess.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Maybe they average out the past 3 years. One bad with a couple of good years that followed average out to "Average" reliability?

    Same for Baja.

Did you guys notice in the new Tacoma ads, Toyota is using a new logo? It's T-shaped but looks like a bolt inside an octagon.

Any how, much better than the oval with the two swirls, which looks too wimpy.

    Any one else notice?
  • volkovvolkov Member Posts: 1,306
There is hearsay evidence that it's the new truck logo.

    Nicholas
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
I saw an ad for it last night and noticed it, wondering "When did they change that?". I like the new logo (and have a secret liking for a 4 door Tundra, even though I have no true need for a pickup).

    -Brian
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
I'd have to say they'll use that for the trucks only. With the Tacoma moving up in size and the new Tundra getting ready to duke it out with the big boys, the 2 ovals weren't tough enough.

And you can enjoy a roofless ride year-round, thanks to headrest heaters that blow warm air across your neck.

Look closely, and the new Toyota truck logo looks like a Jack-o-Lantern upside down! And it was released right around Halloween.

Coincidence? Or did I forget my medication?

    :o)

Bob - Pop Sci isn't exactly gonna give them much marketing power, but it's a cool award nonetheless and Acura deserves it. Let's hope Subaru surprises us and the B9X earns it next year.

Interesting idea with the vents in the head rest. But honestly that's not where I get cold, and I just got a buzz cut (no hair to insulate me).

Still, it's a neat idea. If they can put speakers in the head rest, why not bring the vents a little closer too? Why BBQ your toes? ;-)

Benz diesel deserves it, too, even though I still remember the turbo lag. Overall performance is shockingly good with the economy of a Corolla, however.

What I don't like is that they price the diesel higher in the US, while in Europe it actually costs $1100 less than the E320. Too bad, with a price edge it could have done more volume and really given diesels a boost here.

The thing that hurts sales volume in the US for diesel cars like the new E320 CDI is that it (like every other new diesel car) can't be registered in any state which has adopted California emissions regulations. Those states include Maine, Massachusetts, New York and Vermont.

Legacy won that last year, didn't it?

I know there are 2 very similar awards, though.

Jon: good point. I think we need low-sulfur diesel before they can get around that.

Parking (on the street by the) at the Smithsonian mall is usually a nightmare, unless you can find a parking garage. Even then, who knows... It can be done, but you may have to take many passes at it.

As to food, I'm sure there are plenty of good spots, but I just don't know of any off hand.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
You might want to rely on Metro, our Subway. The Smithsonian stop dumps you in the middle of the mall, basically.

I like to park along the Potomac River, because it's scenic and you can eat there, but this weekend might be cold for that.

It shouldn't be too hard to find street parking, given the rain tonight and the cold forecast for the weekend. Maybe park along 17th street, the White House is on 16th/Penn and you can walk every where from there.

Best part of DC is it's all free. Walk to the all the memorials and pay not a dime, even the museums - all free.

    Enjoy the city.

    Holy Gear Ratios, Batman!

The Mazda 6s is getting a SIX speed automatic with SportShift for 2005.

The 6i makes do with the old four speed.

But wow, Honda and Toyota have 5 speeds now across the board, so the pressure is on.
