Okay, time to 'fess up: How much weight did everyone put on thanks to the "Gobble, Gobble Day?"

I put on 5 pounds, soon to be worked off at the gym (I hope).

Bob- I haven't checked the scales yet to verify but I think I was able to maintain my current weight. The key to my success being my participating in a 10-mile road race on Sunday. There's nothing like a healthy dose of exercise to counter those extra calories!

I spent 45 minutes yesterday jogging on the treadmill, plus another 22 minutes on the ellipse machine—and still gained 5 pounds!

I'm not sure what's going on but I've had more carbos in the past week than in the previous four weeks combined. (I'm the guy on the Atkins diet.) Didn't gain any weight! I made my favorite Pecan pie this Thanksgiving, too! 8~)

I think this was the first Thanksgiving ever where the Turkey wasn't the only one over-stuffed!

The H2 is closer to Tahoe in size, so I guess you could rig up a Tahoe for better off roading. But it still wouldn't turn heads like an H2 would. You compare the Tahoe, but I compare the Escalade, and in that case the H2 is a better value.

    Bob,

autonews' registration requires you to fill out information as if you are either a) a dealer or b) a manufacturer. if you're neither, I didn't see an option for that, and the fields are mandatory.

so as I said, I'm now a "consultant" for BMW AG.
    hehe

mine was the other way... let me explain.

for the last two weeks I've had a bit of a jaw condition that thus far they can't diagnose. the joint is inflamed and at times gets so stiff that I can't open my mouth more than a half-inch. it's been bad enough that I can't even open wide enough to put a spoon in my mouth to eat ice cream or spaghetti o's. even on good days where I have mobility chewing is off limits because it is very painful. but by far the biggest problem is the migranes... I get this tension headache that starts along the top of my jaw on the left side-- from my ear canal forward to under my eye. the migranes were bad enough around 3am Friday night I thought about having someone drive me to the emergency room. I ended up numbing the area with an icepack and eventually passed out. when I woke up I went back to the heating pad and since then I've slept with it over my pillow.

so far they've prescribed an anti-inflammatory (vioxx) and I've taken a variety of things for the pain as necessary. I can't see a jaw specialist until 12/17 unless someone else cancels, so until then my regular dentist is trying what he can...

so anyway, over the past week I've lost about four pounds. I easily could've lost more but I've been drinking liquid meals (the opposite of SlimFast, if you will-- 360 calories each). lately things have been better with more disciplined use of the heating pad, and as I've been able to eat soups and whatnot I've kept on the protein drinks and have started exercising again. (I had to stop last week.)

    it's been a bad year! I'm ready for 2003.

wow that sounds awful. Could it be stress related? I had probs with my jaw after the Explorer wreck in '98, and it sucked, but NOTHING like what you just described. Unreal....I hope the 12/17 rendezvous gets you some answers, and some relief.
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
I had problems with my jaw a year ago due to impacted wisdom teeth. It did get stiff enough at times I couldn't eat much, but I never had the tension headaches and migranes. When I had the teeth pulled February '02, my jaw returned to normal within 6 weeks or so. Since then-- nothing.

Until two weeks ago when it was sore on Sunday after doing nothing in particular that I can remember on Saturday. No stress; I'm a pretty low-stress person.

    Ok, let's see...

I'm praying for Patti's recovery and now adding Colin. Truly praying that you are both getting better and soon.

Colin, if you're stuck with protein drinks, I really feel for you. I don't care for any of those, not even the "shakes".

  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
I appreciate the prayers, Jim. Friday I thought that God wouldn't test me beyond my ability to withstand it, so I didn't go to the ER. all they'd do would be a sedative or maybe local anethesia. bah!

the liquid meals aren't so bad, really. better than loosing weight I can't spare at six foot, one hundred sixty pounds. I've always been lean, but since I've been in better shape these past few months there's just no weight to give. after this is over I think I'll stay with one protein drink a day and try to add ten or fifteen pounds of muscle.

Oh, gosh, I can somewhat relate. Years ago, I would have bouts with killer migraines. Never did find out what/why. They disappeared as mysteriously as they came. However, I at least could eat between crippling episodes!

I hope you soon have some relief!

Guess I'm gonna find out how S-03s do in the white stuff with awd. 8^O

"Computer model forecasts continue to suggest the potential exists for snow from Wednesday afternoon through midday Thursday. Low pressure is expected to develop over Louisiana Wednesday morning and reach the North Carolina coast around midnight. The storm will then strengthen as it moves well east of Cape Cod Thursday night.

Light snowfall is expected to begin Wednesday afternoon... becoming heavier in the evening. Across the area the bulk of the precipitation will fall as snow. The exception would be in the counties southeast of Washington DC... where a period of sleet may happen Wednesday night between midnight and dawn. The precipitation would taper to snow showers across the region Thursday morning before ending in the afternoon.

The amount of snow that can be expected will depend upon the track of the storm. Several inches of snowfall may occur. At this time it appears that the band of heaviest accumulation could be from Baltimore and Washington DC westward to the edge of the Appalachian Mountains."

Loosh- They're calling for up to 2 inches of freezing rain in north GA tomorrow. I hope they're wrong. Even Subaru's AWD system is no match for a sheet of ice.

That weather report means you will get nothing or some light rain at best. It's when the predict nothing that you get the good stuff. I'll have your pics up tonight totally got side tracked yesterday.

although I am holding out some hope only because this one is coming from the south. If they come from the west, everyone panics and clears out the grocery stores. Then the thing hits the mountains, slides into PA, and we never see it. But from the south, well, that's usually when we get dumped on. But you're right, this could still slide out to sea over the Carolinas and then it just rains.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Yeah, I have little confidence in them too. Even so, I'm going to try and get the rest of the leaves up today—just in case... I've got a ton of leaves to deal with. It seems the weather and weekends haven't been cooperating in terms of my leaf clean-up this year, I'm way behind in getting this done.

Let's see. No wife, no kids, no stress. M3 to spin around in. Symptoms are sudden, correlate to the sale of your RS. A-HA!

Colin has a severe case of LackofSubaruItis. The only known cure is to rush to your dealer and buy a Subie. And you'll have to give up your Consultant position, too. ;-)

Actually, it sounds more like a brute-force diet that maybe I should try. LOL

Hope you feel better, bud. My wife used to get migraines and basically caffeine seems to be the only cure for her. She now drinks one cup of coffee a day, never more, never less, and the migraines are under control.

Gimme snow. The more the better. Close work! I'd love to go sledding again. Uh, with my kid, of course!

Peer pressure would mean the Miata would have a turbo by now, and the Forester would have twice as many mods.

It started snowing early Saturday morning and snowed most of the day pretty heavily. We have several inches .. since it's remained cold, it's still there .. turning to ice on the streets .....

So ... I can tell you the Subaru Outback is performing well .. (just like last year .. and the year before ....)

I'm not a professional, but it sounds to me like you have Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ)problem. My daughter had very similar situation a few years ago. If it is, you need to see a dentist who specializes in this area. Hope this helps.

    CUSAFR
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
    cusafr,

that's exactly what I've got. I can't get into the specialist any sooner than 12/17 unless someone else cancels though... and today I found out that this probably will go on my regular medical insurance, not dental.

*sigh* I'm generally a healthy person so I've used absolutely no health insurance this year, leaving me faced with an $800 deductible now and then (assuming treatment continued) next year too! lovely christmas present, that.

however, don't get me wrong. I cannot function with the migranes so I have to get going on this ASAP whatever the cost. I'll just have to re-budget later... maybe as drastic as ditching my M3 (after only one year... !) but life goes on and material things don't really matter much in the grand scheme of things.

    -Colin
  • cusafrcusafr Member Posts: 184
I understand. TMJ is not just one thing for all. They are still learning about it. It can be very different from one person to the next. My daughter had it and my medical insurance would not cover the cost of a special mouth piece from the dentist. They would cover the cost of surgery (go figure), but I listened to this dentist who said surgery only fixed about 10% and 90% were no better or worse. Anyway, it worked for her. She had to wear it for about a year and still wears it occasionally at night. But-No more bad headaches and other pain. You need to do what is best for you, just giving you real life information. And, we are thinking about buying my daughter a Subaru Forester, so as to keep Subaru in the conversation.

    Best of Luck,

    CUSAFR
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The irony if you have to sell your M3, then I was right in a way. Get well soon.

I learned that high deductibles were not a good idea. Too much paper work, which was a big hassle. I'm switching to better coverage for next year.

the new Accord Ex 2.4L automatic as the best family sedan, topping the Camry and Passat.

They tested the Accord against the Legacy L-SE auto, and the Saturn L200. The Legacy, in this test came in second, while the Saturn came in a distant third. The Legacy is still "Recommended," but seems to be showing its age. The Accord was nearly 2 seconds faster 0-60 than the Legacy!

Haaa does this suprise you at all? CR generally loves Hondas and in general will rate a car that is "new" significantly higher than "older" designs.

It seems to be a pretty balanced reporting on the three vehicles, and how they fit into the matrix with the other cars tested in the past two years or so. The Legacy L Special Edition rated mid pack in a field of maybe 10 midsized family cars. It is still a good showing for a vehicle in its 4th year, and on their "recommended" list.

Clearly, the big advantage of the Subaru line is AWD, but the Legacy platform has been topped by more recently redesigned models.

    Steve
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I saw an Accord in a showroom and it seemed tightly assembled. Higher quality than the Pilot next to it, by far.

CR generally doesn't put much weight on the advantage of AWD.

But the bar has been raised, and now it's up to Subaru to respond.

One thing, though, when we shopped for 2002 Accords, you had to spend a lot more to get the same equipment as a Legacy. About $2-3 grand more.

<< CR generally doesn't put much weight on the advantage of AWD. >>

I've read many CR car reports, and every time AWD is mentioned, it's almost always been very positive. The only negative thing they mention, is the fuel mileage penalty. Other than that they almost always recommend that feature, if it's offered.

That's quite a rump. I mean, technically, as a car, it's buns are of steel, but on a metaphorical level, that car needs a workout tape. And I am officially tired of the swept up headlight thing.
