Nissan has put out a tech letter and extended warranty for front end alignment and tire purchase (front only) for 2003 350Z's. I have a 2003 G35 Sports Coupe with 15,000 miles and cupped front and rear tires. Local dealer insists he has received NO similar letter from Infiniti. Since both cars essentially built on same frame and technology, this is very difficult to believe. New tires every 15,000 miles or listen to a howling noise? Doesn't seem right. Anyone have any info re warranty assistance on stopping front tire inside wear.

satobob, I am surprised to hear your poor expereince with your 2003.5 G35/6. Having owned 2 Acura ('89 Legend Coup & 2000 TL) and '99 Lexus RX-300, I also have very poor expereince with Lexus and somewhat disappointment with the 2000 TL and decided to try out the 2005 Infiniti G35. Now I am hesitate ... I wonder if that could because your's is the 1st year G35 and maybe most of your concerns have been addressed in 2004 and now 2005 models?

After reading all those horrible problems associated with the '03 & '04 G35, I am hesitated to proceed with my purchase of the new '05 model. I checked Consumer Report and they rated G35 as above average on relaibility. I wonder if those reported problems are just isolated incidences and/or associated only with early year models? Or it is an inherent corner-cutting by Infiniti? Any suggestions?

Nissan has put out a Service Bulletin for 2003 350Z's because of faulty front end. They will completely replace tires if necessary if mileage under 21,0000. If no need to replace dealer authorized to align, re-align, rotate by dismount tires. Unthinkable to me that 350Z has such warranties, adn G35 Sports Coupe seemingly none. Urge all owners with tire noise to start working onb Infiniti.

The G35 is hands-down the most reliable car I've ever owned. I bought an '03 coupe 6-sp (so it has the uprated Brembo brakes and hence not susceptible to the brake maladies of the other G35's) in May of 2003, and have since put on about 33k miles. I've performed only the scheduled maintenance, and it's has had ZERO problems. About my only gripe is that it's lately developed a slightly annoying noise over my shoulder as a result of the seatbelt guide rubbing against the seat. Hopefully that will be addressed at the next service visit.

My wife's G35X has xm and it cuts out all the time. It is particularly annoying when I have to go a long distance and I get no reception. I have(had) a WRX STI that was stolen last month. That car had xm and it very rarely lost reception.

I have a 2003 with 17k miles and the cupping on the front started around 12k or less. At about $1200 for a new set of tires, this translates to about $2/day for tires. I called Michelin and they suggested turning the front tires "inside out", which I did, but it didn't really fix the problem. I am going to call Infinit based upon what you have said relative to the 350Z! Thanks.

ok, so this maybe a dumb question. I just bought a G35, 6MT with the premium package. According to the manual the entry exit assist is only in the automatic transmission cars. However the premium package states that this feature exists.

Reading the instructions, I just cannot get this to work. In fact I am not even sure I know what this feature is supposed to do. I can set seat memory and that works.

    Can anyone enlighten me? :-)

I took my G35 for a 30K miles Maintenance and I was amazed to learn that it would cost me around $520/- is this reasonable or am i getting ripped off.

    Any response is appreciated.

check the manual and see the list of services required or recommended. most are inspections outside of oil change and tire rotation, etc. dealer may add on "extra" services that may not be of real value.
  • snagielsnagiel Member Posts: 750
Indeed. There were at least a couple of such questionable charges I saw at the 15k mile service which I complained about. One was an "oil additive," which they charged me $12 for. For one, I brought in my own Mobil 1, which needs no additives. For another, the manual states explicitly they don't recommend any such additives. After pointing this out, they agreed to remove the charge.

For my 30k service (which I won't get to until around 38k miles), I plan on bringing in the manual and asking them for only those items, and asking for a line-item list of charges in advance.

The two dealers where I live are charging $530 and $425 for a 30K service for the sedan. Like stated previously, some dealers add on extra services in addition to what is required by Infiniti. This is not unusual. A 60K service for a ford explorer ranged from $300 to $750!!! Next time have them list out what is included in the service and compare it to the manual. After you know what is included in the price, then ask them to only do what is stated in the manual.

Great responses. I did end up getting it done and paid about $450/-. Out of which the labor cost was around $380/-. Gosh, I couldn't believe that. And as far as the excessive charges go. I was lucky to get away with those. The dealer dint do anything in addition to what was listed in the manual. Hope, I should become a car mechanic my self and same some fortune :-).

snagiel, it was a comfort to learn that your G35 is reliable since I just order an '05 G35 sedan. One of the reason that I choose G35 over BMW 330 is because of its SUPPOSEDLY reliability reported by Consumer Report. Hope I made the right decision ....

is now at the Infiniti dealer having the front airdam rebolted on. No, I didn't hit anything in the road nor was it in any accidents. Anyone else have a similar problem with theirs?

Hello! I have a new G35 with an 8-way power driver seat. Because I'm tall, I'd really be more comfortable if the driver seat went down an extra inch at the rear of the seat. (I don't need it to go down further at the front.)

Does anyone know how to get this done? I'm hoping it's not impossible...

Hello All, Just bought a new 04 G35X. Very happpy w/ car, but have a slight issue. When I pulled out of the dealership for the first time w/ it, i noticed a slight vibration above 40mph. Turned back to the dealership but service was closed. Was told to come back. Drove home only to find that the problem went away. The sales person and manager said they had the same problem w/ some loaner G's, stating that a wheel weight may have fallen off. Havent took it back to service yet, but i still notice the sensation at above 60mph. It may be nothing at all, and I may just be missing my '02 Lexus' ride. But any input from a similar experience would be appreciated. I realize it may be the allignment but the steering tracks dead center. The vibrations seem to come from the wheels but do not emanate to the steering wheel. Like i said, strange. Thanks for your time.

I picked up my 2005 G35 Sports Coupe over the weekend. I love the car. I have one complaint - the Bose stereo. When I test drove a 2004, the stereo did not sound very good. The salesman said he though something was wrong with it. My Bose sounds just as bad. The problem appears to be with the FM stereo. The CD sounds great for both CD's and MP3's (I love the MP3 player). The stereo almost sounds like it gets poor reception. Does anyone else have similar opinions of the stereo.

I have a 04-G35, have about 11m miles, my similar hesitation problem started at about 3500 miles, and has been like that ever since. For a few times, I was travelling between 65 to70 mph on the hwy, saw a slow down ahead on my lane, so I wanted to change lane, I let off the gas a little bit, but when I stepped back on the gas to go to the other lane, there was a loud noise on the engine, but the car would not go for a split second, like the transmission is searching for the right gear, then it suddenly shot off...really fast like a rocket.
I took it to two different dealers, both mechanics told me that's normal, b/c the car is "drive-by-wire", it takes the computer to figure out what I "really" want, then transmit the message to the transmission and the engine, but does it make sense? Does any body have the same experience?

I just picked my new '05 G35 over the weekend. The sales told me that, among many improvements in n'05 model, the major one is that Infiniti has finally fixed the transmission hestiaition problem as you reported in your '04 model. I don't know how you can ask Infiniti to put a retro fix into your car.
  • dhsieh9dhsieh9 Member Posts: 44
My new '05 G35 sedan break seems to be somewhat softer than the previous year model. The dealer sales told me that '05 G35 uses a bigger rotor and larger pad. But why it feels softer? Can anyone comment on this?
  • beanctrbeanctr Member Posts: 99
I wonder whether it is a throttle issue and not a transmission issue, although not sure what caused the "loud noise" you heard.

I had hesitation problem on my 02 Maxima 6sp (same engine as G35) that would occur when you suddenly floored the throttle. It was like the car was making up its mind what it was going to do (slight pause) then it took off. The Nissan dealer ended up inspecting the Air Flow Meter and Air Filter and reprogrammed the ECU per bulletin #03-022. It took care of the problem. No more hesitation.

I also own a 2004 G35 with 1600 miles on it. Haven't noticed any issues as you describe above.

I have just recently become interested in the G35 and have begun doing some research. I've found several disturbing references to the ease in which the HID headlights can be stolen. Would anyone know whether Infiniti has done anything, in a redesign of the 2005 model to deter the theft of this very expensive item?

Okay...getting ready to trade my 2003 325i for a 2005 G35 Coupe. Several reasons....monthly "Service Engine Soon" light is driving me crazy and getting ready to drive from Cali to Boston.

Just curious about the likelihood that dealers will work up from the invoice on this car versus using the MSRP as the baseline. When I bought the BMW, I walked in and said here is your check...invoice + $750. After attempting to persuade me for about 10 minutes, they gave. However, the G35 is hot like no car I have seen before and I fear my $750 offer as profit will not work. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Maybe on an '04, not an '05 IMHO.

Can anyone offer some advice? My brother-in-law backed his Yukon, accidentally, into the front of my 2003 G35 Coupe about 2 weeks ago. It's now in the shop getting $7000 of repairs done. I'm not exactly sure what the itemized list of damages is, but there was mention of the radiator being affected. Obvious damage was the driver side headlight was hit hard enough to be pushed in and expose alot of the front left part of the hood (wires, etc).

I only have about 16K miles on my coupe. What would you do if you were me? I'm not one to go out and buy new cars every year, but I'm a little concerned that this extensive damage may lead to further problems later on (i had a similar accident with my Honda Prelude 1995 & ended up having to replace a head gasket along with about $2000 of other repairs, only months after the auto body work was complete). Would anyone recommend getting OUT of this car and trying for a new one? Thanks to all who reply to this "damsel in distress."

If your car is repaired correctly you shouldn't have any problems, it all depends on the repair shop!!
  • dhsieh9dhsieh9 Member Posts: 44
After taking delivery of my new '05 G35 Sedan, I felt that the new G35 has softer break than previous year models. It appears that Infiniti may have over done its fix on the "grabby" & "early worn-out" break problems it has with '04 & '03 models. Unfortunately, the softer break requires the driver to push harder and consequently reduce the effitiveness of the break.

Ok, either I have bad neighbours or bad coworkers or the paint quality on this car sucks. I already have two pretty nasty looking scartches. My 6 year old Honda doesnt have such nasty scratches. Really pisses me off.

Also, I am barely getting 17 mpg. Grrrrrrrrr

By the way, still love how the car drives :-)
  • whywhywhywhy Member Posts: 13
So thats why mine does not work. LOL. Damn liars at Infiniti. I saw several posts in reply to yours. No I did not get the package just for this feature. But I hate being lied to.

I too just pick up our g35 sedan couple days ago. I think I like the new brakes more. It's more similiar to my 2000 Accord V6. The old g35 brakes were just too sensitive for the passengers. I just wonder if the new car can have as good a braking distance as the old which is like 115 ft from 60 to 0 mph.

    Can anyone confirm this?

pmap, We have recently purchased a 2004 G35x and have twice now had the doors lock on my wife when she was out of the car and the keys were in it. Did you ever find out why that was happening? The dealership doesn't seem to have a clue.
  • dhsieh9dhsieh9 Member Posts: 44
Just hung up with Infiniti customer service after speaking with a manager. He told me that '05 G35 has larger rotor, caliper and break pads albeit a less performance-oriented pads. That is probably why I feel they are softer than '04. I just hope they perform as well as '04 models without their problemes.
  • kfongkfong Member Posts: 3
Thanks beanctr for the info, I'll bring my car in next week and mention your case and see what the dealer would do.
I think the loud noise is b/c the RPM is going up to about 5500, and yet the car is not moving.

We actually share the same concerns. Thinking of getting a 05 G35 coupe and with all the emails I am reading, it raises my eyebrows. Any advice from owners of '05 coupes, share your experiences with us? Since your email dhsieh9 was last month, did you decide to get one?
  • rstutmanrstutman Member Posts: 2
We have an 04 sedan which is quiet as can be and an 04 coupe which has some interior noises. The dealer fixed the creaking coming from the sunroof by lubricating and cleaning the rubber. However still am getting some interior creaking that sounds like it's coming from around the top of the doors. I know this was addressed before and a TSB website was referred to but I could not get onto the website as in the message. Any help or suggestions on these issues would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Am considering buying an 04 G35 AWD. The price is good, but I am concerned by all the complaints I am seeing. Most of the complaints seem important, but don't seem to have resulted in disruptive problems-ie. car stalling/breaking down on the road or not starting at home/work.

I have a long commute, so having a lot of unplanned down time would be a real problem.

Before, I sign on the bottom line, has there been a pattern of such problems??? Thanks for any feedback.
  • pkl123pkl123 Member Posts: 43
b4 you sign, hows the deal looking?
  • mlittle1mlittle1 Member Posts: 5
    The deal looks good:

    36,260 is the MSRP

33,356 cap cost (includes them making last 2 audi payments)

    19,976 residual

    15k per year

$1405 due at inception ($0 down-just the usual fees

$434 per month for 42 months

It is an 04 G35 AWD.

I have a relatively long commute (35 miles each way), and the car's been a champ. A little thirsty with the gas, but after 35k miles, it's been extremely reliable. Only problems have been minor squeak types of issues. My nav screen actually developed a weird--but minor--problem in which a single verticle thread of pixels weren't displaying correctly. The dealer replaced the whole unit (under warranty, of course,) without me asking any more than "can you have a look at this?"
  • caballero1caballero1 Member Posts: 14
I have a 04 coupe/6mt it has 21000 miles on it (bought 9/03) I was recently informed by another G35 driver(waiting for signal light)that the first brake job is a freeby? my closest dealer abruptly put me on hold to check, then came back with "well we need to see it". Now I feel if I take it in it's "not covered", I thought I had read in this forum that there was a problem with the brake pads installed from the factory? and does it also apply to Brembo's.
  • caballero1caballero1 Member Posts: 14
I have noticed the same problem with my 04 coupe/6mt, mine almost sound like valve noise or at least thats what I thought, I took mine in the the dealer and they heard nothing. They advised me to try another brand of gas but it's still there. My clatter or rattle/valve noise seem to be profound at low rpm's and at take off's, if you have already taken yours to get fixed, if you can please post a reply to what the problem was and what the fix was. I would like to compare how the dealer addresses the problem before I take mine in Thanks
  • colonel35colonel35 Member Posts: 108
The "freebie" refers to a recall on the sedan and coupe's standard brake pads and rotors, not on the 6MT's Brembo's. I have 35k miles on mine, and at the last service visit was told they still have nearly half their service life remaining (and I'm not shy about braking), which I was happy about.

Does anyone have problem with their Bose sound system? My 05 sedan doesn't seem to have a lot of Treble even though I try to max it out.

I am purchasing an 05 G35x this Saturday morning. After driving the 04 and 05 back-to-back, I must say that I like the new brakes much better. The 04's were just way too grabby, while the 05 felt much more linear.

The larger rotors will provide the same stopping power as the 04's, but might require more pedal travel...which is not a bad thing. Also, performance pads are a PAIN with brake dust and squealing after time. You can't keep your rims clean for a day with performance pads.

It seems like nissan/infiniti worked a lot of issues out on the 05's.

As for locking your keys in your car...never leave your keys in your car. Easy solution.
  • pkl123pkl123 Member Posts: 43
If you dont mind , what type of deal did you get on the 05' and what did they offer on the 04'? Either post here or on the prices paid /buying experiences forum.
  • pmappmap Member Posts: 6
In the year and a half I've owned the car, it still occasionally locks us out. The two Infiniti dealers in southern California (Valencia and Van Nuys) we've used have never come up with a fix. The best thing I can say is carry an extra set of keys because it will happen again.

  • n1danieln1daniel Member Posts: 27
I had exactly the same problem few times. I went to the dealer and was told the same thing, to carry the card size key in my wallet. They say that I am pushing the lock when I open the handle. There has been many cars with the same handle and door lock desing as the g35 and I have no heard anything so this is a faulty design. I think the lock is too soft to the touch and should be fixed. This should be recalled because the last time it happened I got locked out for about and hour with the engine running and the A/C on and of course my cell phone inside the car so I had to wait until a cop came over.

I wonder how many more people have this same problem?
