the story in california about the girl kidnapped 18 years ago who was just found. every story referred to her being taken by someone in a Ford Granada. there was a picture posted of a car the police confiscated. all you could see was the greenhouse, but to me it was obvious it was an LTD II, not a Granada. i got a sinking feeling that the authorities were looking for the wrong kind of car, this whole time. Hopefully, it was just another car they owned. it's good to know what kind of car you are looking at. sorry to be so serious.

Kind of the same dilemma with the Countach - most you see are bedecked with boy-racer bling and kitsch, but the original designs are strikingly clean and almost elegant in their honesty.
driving home in my Catalina this afternoon, I decided to take the long way home and drive around a bit, since it was such a nice day. Temps in the lower 70's, mostly sunny. It was almost a bit too chilly this morning to put the top down...but that didn't stop me!
Anyway, on the way home, I spotted a first-gen Seville, in a green so pale it could almost pass for white, sitting in a driveway, looked to be in good shape. Across the street from it was a '76-77 or so Dodge Aspen sedan, in sort of a peach-yogurt color. Looked almost new, at least at a quick glance.
Then, less than a mile later, I spotted either a Maverick or Comet sedan in someone's yard. Dark blue, looked to be fair condition. It was too far away to tell if it was a Maverick or Comet at a quick glance, but it did have the big front bumpers, so I'm guessing '73-77?
...drop-dead gorgeous teal blue 1965 Buick Skylark four-door hardtop, spinner hubcaps and all, on Oxford Avenue near Cottman. Also a red 1967 Chevrolet Nova two-door hardtop on Bustleton Avenue near Red Lion Road at lunchtime.
Yeah, the condition of that Aspen really shocked me, especially since it was the more rust-prone '76-77 model. The 1978-80's really weren't too bad, about on par with anything else that came out in that timeframe. This thing has either been babied all its life, or it just got a fresh MAACO paint job, and I wasn't close enough to it to notice the flaws!
About 10 years ago, a guy at work had a Maverick sedan, that was lovingly maintained and looked almost new. He let me sit in it once, and it's not something that I'd want to repeat anytime soon. Very spartan inside, although this one was dressed up a bit by the red interior. It was still a neat little time capsule, though. I didn't like the seating position, but it might not be bad for a shorter person.
And unfortunately, the heater in my '67 Catalina doesn't work. Never did, as long as I've had it. I should probably look into getting it fixed, but I'd usually only drive the car in relatively nice weather, and put it up in the winter time, so it never bothered me too much.
Wow, that gives me a flashback to the '67 Newport I briefly had. Mine was even the same color, or at least a similar washed-out yellow. Mine didn't have a vinyl top though. I really didn't care for that car when I had it (only took possession of it because it was free) But I do appreciate them when they're all fixed up, like that one.
He has some kind of glasspack-sounding exhaust on it, I am sure it's a 383. It does look to be in nice condition, which is surprising as it has slept outside a lot lately.
I don't know how old or classic it really is. That's why I'm posting it. I did notice it's a two-door which is really unusual for that era in this area and it's a drab green that wasn't that common here.
It's a W114 coupe of unknown year and model...a middle of the road guess will be 1972, and it is probably a 280C/CE as those seem to be the most common. Not a bad car, but a nice one would struggle to bring more than 5K or so unless it was really pristine. If it's not rusty, there's a grand worth of parts in it anyway.
Nope. These cars changed very little over the production run. It does appear to be wearing earlier bumpers, that's about all I can really tell, so it is likely pre-74. If it is pre-72 it would be a 250C/CE.
If I go that direction soon, I'll stop and look at the old girl. It's a safe area (unless they have a dog), but a little messy as you can tell from the background in the pictures.
.....I'm pretty sure it's a '68 Chrysler 300 (three hundred spelled out on the back fenders, faintly). A clue is the side marker lights, which were U.S.-mandated, and the andgular hash marks.
I think the SHO is a duckus defunctus, being that the engine is, in reality, the entire car, and being that, in reality, the engine is toast---wrecker.
The '81 Datsun 280Z might be worth saving--depending how bad that body work really is.
that the Corvette paced the Indy 500? 1982? Well, anyway, I saw one of those pacecar replicas on the ride in this morning, T-tops out, driver enjoying the cool temps this morning.
Hmm, looks like I was wrong there. I looked it up online, and the Corvette paced the Indy 500 in 1978, so I guess it was a '78 that I saw. The Camaro paced it for 1982.
I could've sworn that the Corvette had some kind of special edition model for 1982 though. I remember one of my former coworkers having one for a few months, and then getting tired of it and getting a 1973 or so Benz 450SL instead. Maybe they just had some kind of collector's edition to celebrate the end of the C3? I think it was a 2-tone black and silver though, sorta like those pacecar colors.
Yeah, 1978 had both the pace car version and the 25th anniversary version, and I think even a combo of both - I once knew of a guy where I lived who had one, and he was convinced that it was some priceless collector treasure. I hate to break it to you...
Per google there was a "collectors edition" in 82.
Yes, the so-called "Collector Edition" had a lifting rear hatchback glass, retro-wheels ala 1967, silver-beige paint and interior, and special porcelinized emblems. They made almost 6800 of them, so not particularly rare. They bring maybe 10-15% over a normal Vette of that year.
There was no '83 Corvette and in '84 of course they had a new chassis and body---the 1982 chassis was the same as the 1963 model, so that was pretty long in the tooth.
I coulda sworn that my coworker's '82 Vette said "Pace Car Replica" on it, but that was also about 10 years ago, so my memory could be fuzzy. I guess it's possible though, that someone just put Pace Car decals on it?
Much of the irritation for speeds came in Ohio on two lane interstates. The trucks had a speed limit of 55. Most were doing 60, some 65 and over. But the trucks passing other trucks caused a lot of backup. Add in a few people going slightly over the speed limit in the speeders' own lane and there was friction at times.
Now the truck speed limit was increased to 65 same as cars. I was against that personally because we have truck accidents that are occasionally bad for autos that are mixed in.
However the truck speed limit being raised has actually decreased the number of frustrated drivers. Surprisingly the two-lane interstates are generally flowing more freely. Some trucks are still going 58-60 and others travel near 65 and up to 72. A few are faster.
.....then again, I love pretty much all Pontiacs 1963-68. It's at least half the reason I watch 'I Dream of Jeannie'. Please see @ 0:50, Boyce and Hart riding in the back of '67 GTO, with 'Bewitched' house in the background. Kitsch on ten levels.
I can't pull that video up...for some reason, my computer at work has been having problems with YouTube lately. Maybe that's their way of telling me to get back to work.
Anyway, here's some useless trivia that some may find interesting. If you go to www.googlemaps.com and type in "267 18th Street santa monica ca" , and then go to the street view, you'll see something kinda interesting. It may not be recognizable at first because the house is on the corner of Georgina Ave and 18th st, and Google defaults to showing it on the Georgina Ave side. But move around to 18th st and view it from the front, and it should be fairly recognizable, albeit a mirror reverse....
Yep, that's the original house that the producers of Bewitched used to create the exterior set of the Bewitched house on the Screen Gems lot (now the Warner Bros Ranch). I thought that was so cool when I discovered it! If I'm ever out in CA again, I want to check it out in person. I always thought the Bewitched house was cool, too. When I was a kid, I fantasized about having a house built and modeled after it. And evidently, we're not the only ones fascinated by this house.
About a month ago, one of my coworkers, who's also into this kind of stuff, went to CA, and I gave her the address of the Brady Bunch house. She and her friend took turns getting their picture taken out in front of it, just as the mailman came up. She said to the mailman "I hope we don't look like idiots, or that the owners think we're strange", and he said "Oh, they're used to it...just as long as you don't go up on their lawn or try to annoy them! In some of the pics my coworker took, I noticed there was a 1992 or newer Seville parked in the driveway. So after all these years, the Bradys are still keeping it American! :P
It would be cooler still if there was a 1968 Dodge Monaco or a 1971 Plymouth Satellite wagon in the driveway. How about Greg's 'Cuda?
As for "Bewitched," I believe the Stephens family preferred Chevrolets. I've seen Darren driving anything from a 1967 Camaro to a 1970 Caprice. Didn't Larry Tate have a Corvette? I don't remember as I haven't seen the show in about 10 years.
...beautiful orange 1969 Chevrolet Camaro convertible with black top, stripes, and Rallye wheels going east on Rhawn Street near Tabor Avenue in NE Philly this morning.
I passed by that '54 Pontiac station wagon that I saw for sale ($3250 asking, BTW). Well, next to it was a 1969 Chevy Impala! I only caught a quick glimpse, mainly at the front. I think it was dark green (kinda like that forest green or maybe what Pontiac called "verduro green"?), and I think it was a 4-door hardtop.
I might have to stop off and give that one a closer look.
And Lemko, yeah, the Stephens family did prefer Chevies. In the older black and white episodes, before the Camaro came out, I think Darren drove a Corvair. Samanth had a '65 Impala at one point. Or at least, I remember seeing her using witchcraft to parallel-park one once! And yeah, Larry always drove Corvettes. I think Larry Tate is the reason that I always looked at the C3 Corvette as sort of a mid-life crisis car. :P
In the episodes where they visited Salem, they were driving around in a full-sized '70 Pontiac convertible. Wonder why they didn't just go with another Chevy? Or maybe they had dual sponsorship...Chevy AND Pontiac, by that time?

sorry to be so serious.
This one was original, in red color, almost an orange hue actually, driven by a guy in his 50s.
I had my camera but he was going the opposite way so I couldn't take a picture.
The engine had a very distnictive sound.

There needs to be a device to instantly snap a pic. The boot up time for a cellphone or normal digital camera is too long.
Very nice clean lines.

His mid 70s Eldo hasn't moved all summer, and the W126 has been idle for awhile too. I think there's a 61 Ford hogging the garage.
...and it ran and was not rusted out?
I spotted either a Maverick or Comet sedan
While those cars were decent mechanically, take a look inside - only Ford could come up with such a stripper interior back then!
It was almost a bit too chilly this morning to put the top down...but that didn't stop me!
Heck, that's what you've got a heater for.

What about architects? Since Mike Brady drove ChryCo products, it's hard to do an apples and apples comparison to Maj. Nelson and Darrin Stevens.
