I heard that the original OEM deflectors had issues with wind noise. Honda was supposed to update it, but I am not sure if that has happened already or not. I have heard good things FormFit deflector. They can be found at hondacuraworld.com.

    http://www.hondacuraworld.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&- amp;Product_Code=HPLFD&Category_Code=HP

You should be able to see pics of it installed.

What happened to your link on iPod installed?
  • cameramattcameramatt Member Posts: 32
Thanks for the tip. I installed my FormFit air deflector in about 10 minutes and it was easy to install with no hassles of drilling.
It looks great. I can't wait to take it on the long vacation drives to see how it performs. Tim at Hondacuraworld was a huge help. Thanks again.

Are they supposed to remain in a fixed position on the rack, or can they be adjusted forward and back to accomodate boxes of varying lengths? We have a Thule Excursion box we've been using on a 2002 Forester and would like to set up the crossbars on our 2004 Pilot EX to match the Thule box's existing setup. But I checked the installation instructions on the H&A Web site, and it seems like there are points on the rack where the crossbars are supposed to sit, as well as a fixed 800mm span between the bars. Will the crossbars work with our existing box?
  • regnideirregnideir Member Posts: 12
The cross bars are adjustable fore and aft. The instructions list a location but you can move them. Additionally there is some play in the width due to slotted holes in one end of each crossbar. You should be able to move them enough.
  • memojomemojo Member Posts: 9
Thanks for the reply. I adjusted them easily -- and in the process discovered the dealership had installed one of them on an angle.
  • sungchangsungchang Member Posts: 39
You are welcome. I am glad that it worked out.

I am not really happy with the performance of my Pilot speakers. Has anyone replaced those factory installed speakers? All I want is to get some better sounding speakers only in the front... Any tips/experience?

    Thanks

iPod install in Pilot via aux-input should still be available at:

    http://homepage.mac.com/douglaslake/iPod_Install_Pilot/PhotoAlbum- 19.html

Members who want to contact me about it can get my address from my profile.

Thanks for that heads up on the air deflector. I was considering having one installed but had heard(from my salesman, actually) that they have been known to shatter. Your story about the noise(which makes sense, if you think about it)clinches my decision.

What are the downsides, if any, to the half bras? I want to protect the hood from errant highway debris.

Can anyone tell me the difference between Version 2.11B and Version 2.11C? I just picked up my 2004 EX-L w/ Navi and the disk in the dvd player is labeled 2.11B. I know that this version has been available since Jan/Feb. Therefore, I am not sure why my Pilot came with an older rather than the newest version of the software.
    Would appreciate any input.
    Thanks,

    Hello,
Im planning to install side steps and was wondering how difficult it is to remove the six clips on each side. Looks like many have already done this themselves. Do you need the "clip remover" tool? How did people remove the clips? I am planning to get my pilot this Tuesday and haven't seen what these clips look like. Any info would help. Thanks.

I can't seem to find invoice prices for the accessories offered on the Pilot (i.e. running boards, day/night mirror, etc.) I want to add some in, but don't want to end up paying MSRP. Where can I find this info? Thanks!
  • Karen_SKaren_S Member Posts: 5,092
Click on the H-AND-A banner at the top of the page. That site will show you the MSRP for most Pilot accessories.
  • babs711babs711 Member Posts: 4
Thank you. But I'd already found the MSRP prices...I can't find the invoice pricing though.

    Sorry....I misunderstood.

I'm afraid you may not be able to find an answer to your question here on Edmunds. Unless, of course, one of our members has the info. This is from our Help files:

    Question
Why don’t you publish any options for Hondas or Acuras?

    Answer

Auto manufactures handle options and option packages in one of two ways:

First, they can bundle selected options and offer them in the form of a particular vehicle styles (sometimes referred to as “trims”). For example, Nissan offers a number of styles for its 2004 Quest, which it refers to as the S, SE and SL. And then, for each of those styles, Nissan offers additional options not already included.

Second, they can take the path that Honda/Acura has chosen, which is to only offer styles – a great many of them – and to fix for the consumer which options are offered. In other words, you must take the option packages Honda/Acura builds into each of its styles, and you cannot separately add additional ones. Accordingly, all of the “options” offered on Hondas and Acuras are actually part of each vehicle’s Standard Features, and that is where you will find a complete list of all of the options on those vehicles.

Honda dealers have the various accessories available if you want it, however, whether you can get the invoice info is questionable. That's why sites like H-and-A are so popular. :-)

I was wondering if anyone has the cargo cover accessory. I just got it yesterday and noticed that when I unbuckle the right 3rd row seat belt...and clip it away, there is excess belt. The left 3rd row seat belt clips away nicely with no excess. To use the cargo cover, you need to unbuckle both belts in the 3rd row seat.

My question is if other people also have this problem...or if my right 3rd row seat belt was defective. thanks.
  • scottnrosescottnrose Member Posts: 47
There was a long discussion on this topic at hondapilot.org. All are built this way. I've seen it on three new Pilots at the dealer. Seems to be related to the location of the plastic "rivet" that holds the buckle from sliding to the bottom of the belt.
  • seballrseballr Member Posts: 11
    To tom10:

Did you place your side steps? I'm planning to do my own. Instructions seem easy enough. I figure I can just yank out the clips. If not, I figure I can get a clip tool from an auto parts store. Did you use a clip tool?

    Thanks,

    RS
  • regnideirregnideir Member Posts: 12
I got the specific answer from the honda engineer at American Honda. The right side rivet is higher so the buckle will not hang up on the seat when folding the 3rd row. You'll notice that the 3rd row seat back is not centered between the wheel wells.

Does any one know how to remove the face of the radio or the radio?

    Is there any trick?

Any thing that I have watch out for?

I have a 2004 Pilot Ex, my radio unit has a radio, cassette and a single CD player.

    Thank you very much.
  • dlake1963dlake1963 Member Posts: 16
See my iPod install website for pictures on how to get the face frame out, then unbolt the radio.

sorry this took so long. haven't been checking the boards lately. the clips fall right out if you press the center pin with a narrow tool. no need for the clip tool. good luck. the steps took me about 3hrs to install. not hard but a lot of screws! also, you will need a torque wrench if you don't have one.
  • tom10tom10 Member Posts: 13
    thanks for the info.

Has anyone installed a remote starter on an EX 2004. I know the Ex has an anti theft with immobilizer feature. So is it possible?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,646
i've read of others having it done, so i know its possible. just takes someone who knows what they are doing.

Yes. My brother is going to get the aftermarket alarm with remote starter for his '04 Pilot EX-L. You need to give up one of the key (with build-in chip). The installer need the key for decoding since your EX has factory immobilizer theft-deterrent system.

I didn't ask if can still use your factory keyless remote if you just want the remote starter option because my brother intends to get a whole new system. The factory system is just a keyless entry with engine immobilizer (passive system).

Anyone know the low beam is 9003 or H4 on Pilot? I read both fit the car.

About the only gripe I have with my Pilot is the amount of bugs that wind up on the windshield. The windshield is impossible to keep clean. I have had SUVs and minivans before but none of them had a windshield that was this dirty all the time. Does anyone have the air deflector and if so is it helpful? (Someone must be buying them because they are backordered).
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,646
we also have 2 rock hits on the windshield already. Luckily we didn't replace it between hits. That would have really ticked me off. I plan on getting the deflector, too, just to reduce the odds (even if only a little).

I am trying to connect my DVD player (Icon-TV) to the AUX port of the head unit to CD-changer for the DVD player. Do you know what kind of adaptor I can for this? I am trying to bypass using the FM modulator for DVD sounds. Thank you.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,646
maybe somebody else knows and can help you, but in case you don't get another response, maybe you can tell me what kind of aux port it has? My '03 doesn't have an aux port, so I'm not familiar with this. If its a standard 1/8" stereo jack, you can buy RCAs to 1/8" stereo adapters at Radio Shack ... or vice versa. Pretty much any audio to audio adapter you could need you can find there.

About the only thing I'm not thrilled with on my '04 EX-L is the dashboard lights....green just isn't for me. I apologize if this has been discussed before (and if you have a link to the thread that would be great), but is it possible to modify the back light color of the dash and odometer?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,646
i think this is definitely a new one. Haven't heard anyone wanting to do this on the Pilot (then again, i've been off the dedicated pilot boards for a while). In any case, its definitely possible. All depends on how much time and/or money you have. For instance, I also frequent Volvo mod boards and I've seen folks actually pull the bulbs and color them. So I'm sure you could do something similar. Or you could look into having some indiglo (is that what they're called?) guage covers made up for you. But then, of course, the rest of the dash won't match. So changing or coloring all the bulbs is really the best way, IMHO. Actually, come to think of it, does anyone know if the Pilot uses bulbs?? Or is it some sort of fiber optic system? Well, either way, I'm sure they could be colored somehow.

I would think they use bulbs (168 or 194) for the dash because they are small. And they can be replaced with any colored bulbs. There are many colored light bulb for automobile use in the market, no need to color (paint) them. Check with other Pilot owners (Edmunds or any other discussion groups) or even repair manual for the modification.

I doubt there will be any cool aftermarket parts and accessories (like indiglo gauge, Atlezza tail lights, clear lens, etc.) for the Pilot unlike the Accord and Civic. The market is limited for the Pilot.

By the way, little disappointed that no minor cosmic changes like headlights and tail lights on 2005 Pilot. The low and high beams should be separated, plus amber rear turn signals and integrated back up lights on the same tail lights assembly.

I got a blitzsafe adapter to add an alpine cd changer and have rca for my dvd player. Well worth the money to bypass FM mod.

I agree, hondapilot.org is a great site, just like this one. But let's see if moderators here will allow this link and reference to remain.......
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,646
they allow you to say "hondapilot.org" as has been said many many times on these boards already. But a direct link is a no-no.

I'm thinking of getting the tubular side steps from H&A. For those of you who have them, are they worthwhile?
  • 05pilot05pilot Member Posts: 26
I just bought an '05 EXL-DVD we have two young children (3 & 6). We bought the black tubular side steps and are quite happy with the look and function..H&A had the best price I found, but used it to get the dealer price down...basically paid an extra $50 to have the dealer install the side steps.
  • exhawk88exhawk88 Member Posts: 7
I have tried the Blitzsafe adapter straight from the back of the head unit to the dvd player but the head unit did not read the dvd player. Not sure what happened there?
  • ven2606ven2606 Member Posts: 6
    Hi,

I recently purchased 2005 EXL-NAV and planning to add Remote Start System.

Can any one tell me if it is OK to add non-honda electronic equipment to Pilot or not.

    Thank you
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
The dealer always blame on you on these aftermarket modification if something went wrong with car. But if the job is done right, it should be fine. I have aftermarket alarm with remote starter on my Camry for over a year. No problem. It works fine with the factory keyless entry.
For Pilot, the installer needs one of your key for decoding because of the engine immobiler. Hope this help.
