Honda Pilot Accessories and Modifications

Don't have a Pilot, but there should be a metal plate in between the headliner and the roof that the screenattaches to. It should have cam with the unit but being that Circuit city did it, they might not have done it right. I heard too many bad dtories about them as well as Best Buy. As far as the screen shaking,it may not be tightened hard enough to the hinges where the screen attaches to the console. I know a little about this since my brother owns a Car Audio Store in VA.

I think they did it correctly - this was at the Tysons Corner store - and it was recommended to me by a couple others.

That said, I think what I meant was is the device being held up by the headliner - or is there something attached to the roof to prevent 'pressure' from building on the headliner and eventually making it sag or even release?

I will look at the screen itself (you are right, it seems to be the hinge), I personally think that Sony did a lousy job in the design area on the hinge for the screen to absorb normal vibrations versus allowing them to transmit to the device.

We are looking to buy a 2005 Pilot EX-leather and are debating adding the navigation system. Does anyone have inputs on the navigation. I don't believe that it is voice activated which would be nice. Is it worth the money? Thanks for any help you can give.

Honda's all-weather mats for the Pilot are superb (and much better than the ones they offer for the Odyssey). I believe they are now offered in both black and tan.

We have a Pilot and an Odyssey, both '05s with navi. Although the Pilot's is a fine system, it is not voice activated nor does it have a back-up camera. It is one (or two) generation(s) behind the unit in the Odyssey. The screen is also smaller than that in the Odyssey.

I would suggest you extensively test drive one to determine if it is worth your money.

I'd like to increase the GVWR of a 2005 Honda Pilot from the factory spec of 5,952 lbs. to 6,000 lbs. Why? Doing so would push the Pilot into a weight class which receives a very favorable tax treatment.

Can anyone provide me with a suggestion on how to make this small increase?

After having navigation is my husband's Lexus LS430 I KNEW that my next car would also have navigation.

No, it's not voice activated. And no, I don't use it everyday. However, the times that i've used it and saved time by not continually driving around the block looking for the place or being in a city where I wasn't familiar with on/off ramps for the freeways or not knowing which lane to be in to merge onto another freeway (I live in the Los Angeles area) is worth it's weight in gold! I will not have another car without navigation. It's actually a pretty good system and really accurate. More accurate than the one in the Lexus (which just got upgraded so it's more accurate than the version before). It allows your passengar to plug in addresses or look for restaurants while your driving (the Lexus blocks you out so if your on the freeway and want to eat at a restaurant you have to pull off and stop to use the navigation for this function). I say it's worth the money.

This is very good point. I would have purchased a Pilot in a heartbeat last December, if it had a GVW of 6000. To this day, that is probably the one thing keeping me from purchasing one.

You'd think the marketing people would be aware of this huge tax benefit. Surely, 48 additional pounds of GVW would translate into significant additional sales. It seems they could offer a suspension upgrade that would push it over the edge.

The Honda website shows that XM is an accessory, but I cannot find more info anywhere.

I am hooked, and I am determined to have XM radio. As I plan to lease, I will to need to have it dealer installed. Anyone have experience with this?

Anyone buy the tow package from cheaphondaparts.com and have them installed?

If I buy them and take them to a dealer will they install the tow package or will they tell me that since I didn't buy it from them they won't install?

another question i have regarding the tow package: is it similar to the Odyssey where you need a tranny cooler for towing anything?

or can you just install a hitch your self and hook up a wireharness without too much effort?

I just purchase an EX-L for $29,409.00. That is $200 below the new invoice. I had fog lights, back-up sensors, and day/night mirror installed for additional $1549. I want a few more accessories (like rear splash guards, all seasons floor mats, door visors and cargo cover). I notice that on cheapesthondaparts.com and handaaccessories.com accessories are cheaper. I was told by the honda dealership that these accessories aren't genuine honda accessories, but both websites states they are qenuine honda parts. Who do you believe?

I just bought a 2005 Pilot EX (and am totally in love!). Got all weather floor mats and a cargo mat, but I would like seat covers, especially for the middle row. I keep the last row folded away. I have a dog and the hair and all is a mess. The dealership told me that seat covers in the front would be a problem because of the airbags. But for the back seat (60-40 seating), I would like some. Any recommendations? Anyone to avoid? Thanks.

I know you posted this message a long time ago, but I'm looking into doing exactly the same thing in my 04 pilot.

Can you tell me after you installed the aux cables do you get an extra aux channel from the honda stock radio. Because when I plug in a RCA cable in the aux input by the second row seats provided by Honda it uses the aux channel and when that happens you cannot play the DVD and the aux at the same time.

In short what I am saying is right now when I use the aux input provided by honda I cannot play both the DVD and aux at the same time. With your connection to the aux port in back of the stock radio, can you use the aux channel and play the DVD at the same time.

When I check the website logjamelectronics, I am not sure which cable you used. Can you please let me know exactly which cable you used for your connection.

I emailed Honda corp. HQ with the same question. When I get a reply I will let you know. I think it is a modification that must be made at the factory, and not something that can be added after-market to push the weight to 6000 lbs.

I have a 2005 pilot with the nav system. It has proven its weight it gold. I have been to some of the most remote places in the country and here NYC and I have never gotten lost with it If u are one of those people who are always asking for directions or if u are like me and just dont like to get lost than its worth it.And remember that although it isnt voice activated, once u input a destination, by either the buisness name or the address it guides you with voice prompts. Another thing that i like about it is that if u make a turn by accident, it just recalculates new directions from where u are. I took my pilot camping and found the offroad tracking system also very handy. Also, let me recommend the rearview camera accesory if u go for the nav system. I dont know where u live but here in NYC where i live,it has proven invaluable. I admit that it a pricey accessory, but will prove itself if u find yourself needing to park in a tight space and its hard for u to see the distance to the car behind u. Also consider the rear mudguards and the rubber mats. The prices on those are reasonable. To close, if u know anything about resale value, if u ever decide trade or sell the pilot, please believe me when i say that i pilot with the navigation system is worth more than one without it. u can contact me at gilsoutherland@yahoo.com for more questions if u have any.

In my opinion,the ONLY advantage to buying accessories from the dealer,even though u know u are being leaglly robbed is that if u buy them when u are buying the vehicle,then they are warrantied for 3yrs/36,000miles, same as the rest of the vehicle. And even of u dont buy them when u buy the vehicle, they have a 1 yr/ 12,000 mile warranty, which is still pretty good to me. These is longer than ANY warranty for aftermarket accesories that u can buy for the pilot that i have personaly seen ANYWHERE else. However,since i have the ex-l with the navigation system, i got the rearview camera too and when i got the windows tinted darker than they came from the factory the shop i went to said that the rearview camera was more money if i got it from him.

I live in nyc,which if u know anything about it it has a high rate of car theft This is especially true with ANY honda. I carefully considered this in Jan. of this year when i bought my new pilot. I always say that if a thief wants your car bad enough, they are going to get it regardless of what alarm system u have installed or the cost of the alarm system. But, even with this cynical attitude, I went and got a $ 900 alarm installed. It has all of the goodies,including a remote start but what especially like about it is that even if some thief was to get the car started if they stole it, the alarm's cpu will recognize that the car is being stolen and the car will shut itself down automatically within 1/4 mile of being stolen and cant be restarted by anyone except u. A lojack is good only after u discover the car has been stolen. Ask urself this: What if the thief looks and finds the lojack transmitter before u discover the pilot is gone and removes it? This is what happend to a friend of mine who's $80,000 lexus suv WITH a LOJACK INSTALLED was stolen

Has anyone here actually hooked up a gaming system to your RES? How did it go? What exactly did you have to do? We just bought the EX-L w/ RES, and my kids are going bonkers because the dealer said this could be done, but it seems like it would be pretty clunky w/ power source, etc. I poked around in this forum and a lot of people mention wanting to do it, but has anyone DONE it? I want to add a motion sensor or glass breakage sensor to the factor alarm.
Anyone done this?

Any advice? I don't know where the alarm module is, nor whether it uses voltage
drop (door light) or some other input to decide if a door has been opened.

Just purchased 05 Honda Pilot with Nav, and we love it, but can find no place and no way to hang clothes for travel or trips to the dry cleaners. We've tried to purchase over the door clothes hooks for the house to see if they'll work, but they don't. Anyone come up with a solution? Our dealer said that the package hooks located very low in the far back are for hanging clothes, but that just isn't workable when you're loading and unloading suitcases.
Ideas or solutions? Thanks!

We typically give the dry cleaner's hangers a bit of a twist and use the passenger
handles in the back seat for hanging. Better quality hangers (like the ones from
clothing stores) twist back and forth by design.

Actually, I find the passenger handles a better solution than the little hooks which
seem to handle only a few hangers and then the hangers pop off (or the little
hook breaks).

I believe the hooks in the back you are referring to are for grocery bags. If there
are other unusual 'facts' from your dealer they may be worth a double check.

Well, thanks for replying anyway. I did a bit more asking around, and apparently you have to bring your gaming unit and plug it in inside the car. That is kind of clunky, but maybe when I'm rich I'll buy a separate gaming box for the car and leave it there. :-)

oh, yes, you most definitely have to put the console in the car .... I'd be surprised if there were any other way. I mean, how do you play a console with no console? But, hey, if your kids want to play, I'm sure they'll do the little bit of work to unplug it from the house and bring it along.

Anyway, the 2 solutions are either portable systems (PSP, Gameboy, etc) or buying a power converter (~$40) and bringing the console along. I've seen installs where folks have built a little shelf on the floor behind the center console and installs where they put it under the seat. I've asked this question here before....but will now try to simplify it......to tow a boat, I need a 5 prong flat (extra wire is for the backup lights to not allow the surge brakes on the trailer to engage when I back up) WHERE EXACTLY do I attach the 5th wire? (I have a 4 prong to 5 prong flat adapter I need to intall..it has the extra, or 5th wire)....do I need to tap into my back up light with one of those 'blue Scotch 3M' connectors, or is there a 'place' on the factory wire harness to connect the 5th wire?...I know there are many 'towing threads' on this site....but couldn't find one that answered this question....my thinking is that there must be a 'place' on the factory harness to attach it....what color is the backup wire?..thanx, in advance..

Thanks for sharing your idea for dealing with the Pilot having no hook for hanging clothes. I imagine you're right, and that's probably what we'll have to do, but if anyone out there has found another way (or a product) to solve the problem without having to twist the hangers, we'd love to hear it.

ah... ok ... i was searching a dedicated Pilot board on the internet for you to try to help out, but i found a post there that looks very similar to your post here on Edmunds, so I'm guessing that's you and, hopefully, someone over there will be able to help. In the meantime, during my search, I found others who were also perplexed and this was the only possible bit of helpful information I found:

The yellow wire at the trailer harness (in the cargo area) was hot all the time (even with the ignition off). I agree that there must not be a reverse wire there on the '04's. I ended up tapping in under the roof lining (green w/ black stripe and two gray bars).

Maybe you could tie a clothes line between the two rear passenger hand grips and then put a clothespin (or tie a knot) on the line to keep the hangers from sliding around. It would be easily removable if you have to use the second row. Or you could tie a small rope around one of the rear passenger hand grips and hang the hangers off of this loop. I actually have not tried either of these approaches, so I'm not sure if one of them will work out. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

I am looking at buying a used Pilot EX. I need to tow a 2700 pound boat and trailer. Do I need to get the installed tow package with the transmission and ps coolers? Is the rating for the pilot 3500 lb towing as standard and UP TO 4500 pound with the additional coolers added? I cant seem to get a straight answer from anyone one this? Is anyone towing under 3500 pounds with the standard Pilot? Thanks

Easy installation, 12 screws for hitch are already pre-tapped. Did it myself, however hitch is pretty heavy, would be much easier with somebody's help.

I have a 2005 pilot with the nav system. What i did just today was get 20-inch, that right 20-INCH, chrome tires and rims put on the pilot. The fit is great and because my pilot is black they look great. However, As expected, this disabled the TPMS system(tire pressure monitoring system) on the pilot. What that did was make the tpms light that comes on and them goes off normally come on every time while i now drive the car. What i wanted to know was whether anyone knew of way to somehow disable the TPMS system only so that this light doesn't come on anymore while im driving the pilot. A note for anyone considering putting aftermarket rims and tires on their pilot: 20 Inches is the biggest u can safely go without the causing any problems for the suspension or handling. U can fit a 21 inch rim and tire package but i know someone who has a pilot with 21 inch rims and they cause him problems with the ride and also due to the size, the wheels can turn all the way in either direction. So like i said, get 20 inch or 18 inch if u are considering getting bigger rims. and also IMMEADIATELY OR ASAP GET A WHEEL ALIGNMENT!!!!!!! For those of u not knowlegeable in this subject, the wheel alignment is necessary ANYTIME u change from the factory tire and rim to another one REGARDLESSof size. This is due to the fact that when the pilot leaves the factory its aligned for the factory rims and tires. FAILURE to get an IMMEADIATE OR ASAP wheel alignemt will cause your aftermarket tires to wear unevenly and will cause the vehicle to slightly shake at highway speeds. If you going to use the trailer hitch just for hauling bicycle, you can get one from etrailer.com for $147+shipping and install it yourself. There are two versions on Honda trailer hitch, the one for heavy duty towing cost $600 and the other is $220.
Why do you need the auto-day mirror, the back window is tinted so dark, even a high beam from behind shouldn't bother. Air deflector is useless.

K&N air filter is great, Tornado so far (4000 miles) zero improvement in MPG for me. Put your money on the K&N, I have it install on all my vehicles.
