I am looking for Honda Pilot too.. and dealer over here in boston area are charging MSRP.. my dealer was not even ready to give 1000 off MSRP though I bought two new cars from them in last year..
And I mentioned them about Ohio dealers.. and they tried to scare me that they heard about that too.. and be careful that many dealers trying to sold cars that are meant for Canadian market(not US market).. and if u buy that car it will void Honda warrnaty.. only local dealer from where u bought car will give u service...
I am damm sure that it's not true.. but like to confirm from other buyes' who bought out of state dealers specially ohio... do u have US warranty ??
  • my3kidsmy3kids Member Posts: 56
So how the heck could Ohio dealers be selling all those Pilots and not the warranty? For that matter, ask your guy how they even got models destined for Canada(not that I wouldn't have wanted one of those....heated seats!) He is trying to scare you. I bought one in Ohio and have taken it to a local dealer for service. No problems. Honda issues the warranty, not the dealer. Any dealer that performs warranty work is paid by Honda....not the dealer that sold the car. All service departments are subject to the infamous "Honda Survey" so of course they want to do a good job. When I took mine to a different dealer for service.....totally NOT a big deal. He asked if I bought it there. I said no, he said, "okay, lets get you into the computer." Never asked about where I got it, or why I didn't buy from them. Did the same thing with another car and have received excellent service from the local dealer for years.

I paid a little under $350 above invoice. My Pilot is exactly the ame as those that paid full price in their home state.

First let me say thanks to all those who have helped with info on this board. I have just finalized a deal for my Silver EXL w/ RES at Mark Pruitt in Akron, Ohio. Honda for a price of $29,500. The salesperson I dealt great and I cannot say enough about her. She was upfront and very honest and gave me a bottom line out the door price. The only additional cost was roughly $75 for tags and prep fees and that was it. I live in New Jersey and this was by far the best price I found. Contact me at JMOS27@aol.com if you have any
    questions.

have been reading this board for a few months and using Edmunds for years. great sight. I am moving back to the states in a month and am 99% sure on a new Pilot EX. (pending test drive) starting in Austin TX and working my way to KC thru Dallas, OK City, straight up I-35. has anyone had much luck in this corridor with $500 over invoice? better or worse? (Is dealer holdback still 3%?) I am willing to travel a bit as you can see. Also, any word on when the 04's become available and is it worth the wait? Thanks
  • stitesbstitesb Member Posts: 1
You may want to start your journey a few miles south of Austin in San Antonio. I have seen several folks talk about some very good deals that they received at Gunn Honda (www.gunnauto.com). Check post 1015 & 1019 for a couple of related posts from 'txpilot'. I recently received an online quote from Gunn Acura for an MDX that was $1,200 under anywhere else I've found.

    Good Luck on your journey...

I have contacted 3 dealers in NE Florida. The one in Jacksonville insisted on MSRP. The one in Sanford offered $1,400 over invoice plus $500 dealer fee. Finally, I bought my base Pilot EX at invoice from the dealer in St. Augustine over Memorial weekend. I had to pick it from what were on the lot at the time. The experience was good. If you need the salesperson's name, let me know.

I live in Hollywood, FL & can purchase a Pilot in either Miami, Hollywood, Ft. Lauderdale, all the way up to Delray Beach. I really haven't had any luck with a decent price...if anyone lives in any of these areas, I would really appreciate any info you can give me regarding purchasing an LX (my husband needs it for work, so he doesn't want the leather seats & all the other bells & whistles.) Thanks for a hopefully prompt reply because we are ready to buy.

see the post above yours. Driving across the state is WELL worth it if you can buy it for invoice.

$30,254 including the $460 destination fee. I had to pay tax, $45 to switch plates and a $50 service fee, which may have just been a little more dealer profit. But, it was still hundreds better than any other quote in the area.

Honda City here in Milwaukee, WI. Internet sales guy was very straightforward and a pleasure to deal with.

I was told by a Honda dealer in Palo Alto today that the MSRP went up $1000 on Monday. Is this true? I am looking for a EX-L in the SF Bay Area and not finding any deals.
  • chantechante Member Posts: 1
I haven't heard of an increase but I also live in the bay area and have had no luck finding deals anything close to what the others seam to find in Texas and Ohio...... HELP! (Looking for EX-L with Entertainment System)
  • wilmingtonianwilmingtonian Member Posts: 2
The local dealer here in Wilmington Delaware offered me 970 below MSRP on an instock Pilot. My thinking is that prices will be dropping this summer (along with everyone's wages!) and the 2004 Model will come along. Can anyone hazard a guess on this?
  • rerenov8rrerenov8r Member Posts: 380
I have heard from dealers and even seen some evidence of this myself.

In effect, your real adversary in the quest to get a good price for almost ANY Honda is not the dealer or even the factory but OTHER CONSUMERS!!!

Too many folks who 'shop' for Hondas are too reluctant to argue/negotiate price. They seem eager to get the color/option level they want and will pay the HEFTY premium/mark up from invoice that is common on Hondas.

Even when there are new model year vehicles right around the corner there are precious few "deals" on Hondas. With the 04 Pilot not due until LATE fall you will not see any special values through the summer.

Changes for the 04 Pilot are a COMPLETE mystery -- maybe nothing will change to maintain the separation from the MDX...

If the $970 BELOW invoice deal is "for real" I would STRONGLY urge you to JUMP ALL OVER IT!!!!!!

    Good Luck!
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
of course its other consumers. If people wouldn't pay these prices, dealers wouldn't have the luxury of relying on "well, if you don't buy it at that price, someone else will."

That's why we keep preaching on this board that folks shopping for one SHOULD NOT pay full price.

    Everybody stop buying Pilots IMMEDIATELY!!!

    Have you stopped yet?

OK. I'm on my way to the dealer, so give me a head start!
  • rerenov8rrerenov8r Member Posts: 380
...of course it is the lack of comparisons that seems to afflict buyers of certain vehicles.

I get the distinct impression that if/when folks were to weigh the LARGE discounts offered on the various Mitsu SUVs & Mazda MPV against the "full MSRP" of the Pilot there would be many more dealers willing to discount.

    rsf1,

I live in the southbay also and bought mine in merced last year when they first came out since they werent jacking the price. You might broaden your search and just use the internet to find the best price. Goto the honda web page, search for dealers within x miles of you and vist those websites, find the link to send an email to the internet sales managers of each saying I will by X from you now, what's your price. Takes only a little time and many people get a good price.

Also saves you time from dealing with crooked sales guys like the one in PA (Sounds like he's feeding you a line of bull, there's no way I would deal with him again)
  • dfengdfeng Member Posts: 1
I'm just wondering if there is any special factory sponsor financing rate going on for Pilot. Like Toyota, they have 0% on almost every vehical now.

    Thanks,

I just left the Windy City Honda (Chicago)Site where they have an ad good through June 30th selling the Pilot EX at price stated above.

I was looking for one of these and no one would budge on price so I went the way of the Odyssey.

I am living in Northern Virginia. I just got a quote for the basic Pilot LX for $25.5K (including the destination fee) from a local dealer. I am wondering if this is the fair price in this area? Could anybody tell me this?

    Thanks,
    Kevin
  • atalalayatalalay Member Posts: 58
It seems that the demand for Pilots has slipped some over the last few months. $1k over invoice was pretty close to the best price in January but I think that there are lower prices to be found. The 25.5k is close to fair for local dealers but you can do better by going a bit further. For example, if you go to MD you will only pay $25 for processing (MD law) where as mid-West prices might be much closer to invoice these days and with shipping running around $350... you get my drift...

wasn't enough for me to take the plunge. I bought a year old Sienna this weekend and decided to wait and buy the Pilot used in a year or so after the new model fever wears off. I don't mind dealers making a profit but I do object to paying for their whole european vacation singlehandedly. I found a site online that claimed the next model year would start in August for the Pilot, but the dealers I talked to wouldn't say.

I live in Austin and the best price I can find for a EX-Cloth is $500 below MSRP, any one can recommend dealer in central Texas area?

    Thanks in advance.

Read back through the posts in this forum over the last few months. Seems like there was someone in TX offering great prices. (Gunn Auto maybe...not sure if that one was TX, or even the right name. Just read back through the forum) If not, if you are willing to travel for a great price, there are many posts explaining how to do so.

Evidently the tire on the Pilot (P235 70 R16) is not a popular size at all. The spare is totally inadequate for more than 30 miles. NOBODY in Kansas, Oklahoma or Texas has the tire in stock. I have two on order. One to replace the used tire I had to purchase to get me home, and one for a full size spare. This never crossed my mind when I made the deal for the vehicle. Definitely get the full size tire for your spare! I had a blow out while on my way home from vacation and learned the hard way.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
Just doing a quick search on tirerack gave me 46 different tires in that size to choose from (H speed or better). Granted, ordering from there is not like going down the street and picking it up, but it just shows that its not that rare. They have far less for me to choose from for both my Alfa and Volvo.

I got an EX-L for 700 under MSRP. No bogus inflated fees nor pressure for warranties, coatings, or other b.s.

In addition, the dealer offered 100% 5 year financing at 4.09% (FICO score in high 700's).

Further, I had the choice of 3 colors with 48 hour delivery or others with about a one month wait.

I used Yonkers Honda. Ask for the Internet Sales Manager.
  • jvitale2jvitale2 Member Posts: 4
We went to test drive the Pilot last night at Honda of Bowie in Maryland. We then sat down with the salesman and I told him our offer was $1000 over invoice plus freight. He shook his head indicating we were crazy. I thought it was a fair price. Taking the holdback into account, the dealership is making almost a $1900 profit. He came back in less then five minutes and told us no. We thanked him, got up and walked out.

I agree with many other people on the this board that as long as people (cough, cough suckers :) are not willing to negotiate and are willing to pay MSRP, the dealerships won't negotiate either. They know the next customer walking through the door looking to buy a Pilot is likely to pay full price. The salesman told us "the market just doesn't support your offer."

At this time, I'm seriously considering putting together an offer letter and simply faxing it out to the five dealerships in our area with the names of those dealerships clearly shown on the letter so they know they are competing with each other. I'll tell them they have something like 24 hours to give me the best offer they can and may the best dealership win.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
don't know if i would put all their names on all the letters, though. Probably better just to say in the letter that you are asking for offers from several dealerships. Some dealers actually do call each other (had this happen to us), so I wouldn't give them access to the exact list of those you are contacting.

I went to Sheehy Honda and they provided me with the following:

    -$1000 off Msrp
-Appearance package-mud guards, pin stripes, and wheel locks
    -4 free oil changes

The Internet sales manager that I dealt with (they have 2) was very professional and helpful

They also have a coupon for $100 off on their website.

These things should combine for $1000+$100coupon+$100for oil changes+$100in free stuff.

They gave me far more for my trade than anyone else offered too.
  • jvitale2jvitale2 Member Posts: 4
My wife and I were thinking instead of faxing out letters a better approach might be to just call the dealer and ask for a sales manager. Basically tell him/her the same thing we were going to put in the letter...that we're serious buyers, detail our offer, that we're planning on calling other dealerships in the area and could you please give us your best price. We figure contacting the manager directly bypasses a salesperson and avoids the dealership having to pay anybody commission.
  • silverpilot03silverpilot03 Member Posts: 43
Maybe I just was lucky, but that is exactly what I did. I asked for the sales manager and told him I wanted a Pilot and would pay 300 over invoice, noting that he already had holdback. I told him dealers in central OH were selling for 500 over invoice, but the extra 200 would sway me to his dealership. He called back 10 minutes later and we had a deal. I am in Bowie every few weeks, and the drive from this dealer to Bowie is about 6 hours. I did EVERYTHING via fax and used my credit card for a 500 good faith refundable deposit. 27100 for an EX cloth. I did not finance so that should have hurt his profit margin. I got a EX-L with DVD for 30,500 from Motorcars Honda - cleveland .

I just got a quote from a dealer from cleveland for $850 over invoice, but he said shipping is around $1000. I saw somewhere that shipping fee is only $350. Can I get more info on that? Where did you buy your Pilot with that kind of shipping rate? I live in Portland Oregon.
    Thanks
  • schulhofschulhof Member Posts: 71
Bought three weeks ago. EXL-DVD. Spent hours negotiating but could not get under MSRP.

FWIW, I did get close to what I wanted for my high mileage trade.

Really wanted $500-$1000 off MSRP. Maybe if I walked, but wife wanted it ;(

We haven't made any moves on our Pilot deal since I last posted because we've been busy in the evenings and we're out of town this weekend.

Did you mention the name of any dealer in central in Ohio you'd spoken with to the dealer in KY?

    Thanks.

Oh, BTW. Our friendly neighborhood salesman from Bowie Honda called my wife today. :) They always call back.

do a search on moto cars honda. You will find it
  • silverpilot03silverpilot03 Member Posts: 43
I think I had a few dealer names that I dropped. The sales manager just said he knew they were selling at 500 over invoice in central OH. I told him he needed to be a few hundred under their price in order to win my business and if he met it by the next day, I would not go to another dealer with his price. I only READ on this website that others were receiving offers to sell/buy at 500 over invoice. It must have been true.

I just bought in Eastern Washington State. I used the internet in several states, phoned most dealers in Eastern Washington, and personally drove to most of the dealers in the Seattle/Tacoma area. The majority of dealers in E. Wash. had no pilots on the lot. Most big Seattle dealers seamed to only have a couple. The best deal, out of state, was $28,400. I paid $28850 close to my town for a silver EX. Just lucky timing, the right color and model on the lot. I pushed for lower, actually left, and they let me go convinced in would sell for higher. I relented and bought for the $400 under invoice the next day.

Not the best deal in the world, but from what I can see, availability is still tight and it was probably as good as I can do right now.

I emailed lots of places out of state, and even though slightly lower, with shipping thrown in it almost became a push. I read stories of lower purchase prices here, but frankly, getting anything below the low $28's I'm skeptical of.

    Great car, fun to drive.

    binylee,
shipping from Ohio to Portland costs around 700 or 800 dollars. I am considering buying and shipping an EXL to Portland. even after paying 800 dollars to ship it, it will still be worth while(given that the dealers in our area won't take more than three to five hundred dollars off MSRP). Maybe if we buy and ship our Pilots together we could save some money.
  • binyleebinylee Member Posts: 5
    godfathermdh,
It sounds good. I am buying one as soon as possible. How about you? Can you close the deal soon? As soon as I agree the pricing with them, I will go with financing part. He said Honda has 4.1% financing. Do you think we can do better than that by waiting to July 4th? We don't have to pay taxes right? Since we live in Portland. I got a rough shipping quote from last night for $1100. Sounds like you found a better source. Can you contact them with the discount if ship 2? We'll split the shipping cost. I can't post my email here. But we'll think some other way to communicate.

    binylee,
In the Annapolis, MD area, many of the credit unions are offering interest rates on car loans of 3.99%. Several of my friends have recently purchased Honda vehicles (an Accord and an S2000) and when they mentioned to the dealer that they were going to finance through their credit unions, Honda offered them an interest rate of 3.64%. Needless to say, they went with Honda financing. :)
  • dako_tiandako_tian Member Posts: 298
I just refinanced my pickup for 3.99% (from 6.0% which had been refinanced from 8.55% all within the last 3 years) at my credit union here in the Dallas area. In fact, they also paid me 0.5% of the loan as a bonus to do it.

Any suggestions for good deals to be had in Tucson, Phx or Vegas? Beadry's (Tucson) offer was ridiculus a few months ago (over MSRP, called it "Market Value" or something)--and we had bought a VW from them last year. I have thought about going to Vegas. I know I will have to pay AZ tax when registering in AZ--though I think I can save another 1.5% or so in local taxes I otherwise would pay.

    TIA

If a Honda dealer is able to sell all of it's allotted inventory of Pilot at or near MSRP, how is it losing business? I have sold quite a few vehicles and many Pilots to you folks on this forum, mostly very nice people trying to save a few bucks. AVAILABILITY is the driving factor behind Pilot pricing. If I had three Pilot EX cloth in Havasu Blue, I could give a better deal than the Sagebrush that I have 10 people waiting for. From what I have seen, pricing varies considerably by region. My best advice is that if you can buy a Pilot for around $1500 over locally, DO IT!!! You are not getting gouged. Alot of you are business owners and that money would stay local and go back into your local economy. Car salesman are consumers too. I negotiate on alot of things I buy, but I also know that businesses are open to make money. Don't do business with dealers that charge over MSRP or have nuisance fees. Go with the one that you feel the most comfortable with. I personally bought a Pilot recently and paid $1500 over invoice as an employee. This is a very fair price for this vehicle, since it is not distressed merchandise. Someone offering me invoice for a new Pilot would be akin to me offering them $3000 less for their trade than what its's worth. A Little Insulting. Any Comments?
  • binyleebinylee Member Posts: 5
Sounds like fair to me. It's all about supply and demand. Well, it's just that the Pilot is too good to pass. Just try to get the best deal. Oh man, talking about he sagebrush??? I saw one and felt in love with it. I offer a $1000 under MSRP. But the deale insist at $300 under... bumper :(
