Per another website, the 2004 Pilot exl will have the following changes: Heated seats and mirrors, adj 2nd row seat (to allow for more room in the 3rd row). The price increase for the EXL is $350. This was confirmed by several other posters and I think pretty reliable. The cd changer and hp increase rumors are just that. Hope this is helpful.

add me to the list of out of state pilot buyers. good advice given in this forum. ohio(akron) dealer gave great price on 03 EXL but since i want to wait for the 04 said price break would not be as good. they ran a two state locator of the vehicle i wanted to see when they were getting one in. left it with me while off to talk with someone. i was able to see all the dealers within reasonable distance of my ny home. found an erie, pa dealer getting the car in middle of sept. emailed; they matched the ohio dealer price for the 04( i pay whatever price increase) AND gave me what i believe is $1,000 more than i thought my trade was worth. bianchi honda. the most pain free car buying experience ever. and of course, with the trade my tax due (8.25% in ny!!) will be less because the trade is deducted off the price. another $850 or so saved. also, 100 miles closer than akron. i was leery to buy this way but highly recommend it now.

Sorry, my email included a salesperson name and was deleted...
Try Mike Pruitt Honda or Motorcars Honda in Ohio. I haven't signed a deal with either, but I've had good discussions with both. Mixed experience at Motorcars with different salespeople though. Also try Tyler just outside Cincinatti in KY. Since this original post, I placed an order for an '04 Sagebrush EXL with Pruitt.

Has anyone seen or purchased an 04 model yet? When is the pricing going to be announced?

I just ordered a 2004 Honda Pilot silver with NAVI. Here is the price I am paying.

    $31328.10 + $598.00 (running boards) + $100.00 documentation fee + $24.75 tag & title = GRAND TOTAL of $32050.85.

This is being manufactured between Aug 31 - Sep 4th. The Dealer will have it delivered to Raleigh, NC and charges $600.00 (On a flat bed). They are responsible for any/all damages (in case).

I got his deal from Waikem Honda in Ohio. The Price I paid is Invoice + $1300.00. The Vehicle will most likely be at my house around the 16th of September.

Great price, I am currently asking for a price for a 2004 from same dealer. We shall see if I will finally get my pilot. Hope so!
  • njcarshoppernjcarshopper Member Posts: 8
mohans60 / jenniju...Do you have to go to Ohio to sign paperwork for Pilot or can you do everything via FAX / FEDEX. I am trying to save myself a trip and have car delivered.
  • mohans60mohans60 Member Posts: 12
No need to go there at all. You can do all the stuff by phone/fax/Fedex. I have to get a Bank check for the total amount and send it by Fedex. I dont want to travel to Ohio either.
  • njmom2boysnjmom2boys Member Posts: 5
I had a very successful and painless purchase from Pruitt in OH (I'm in NJ). See post #1326. My Pilot was driven here by a dealer employee. All paperwork and payment was done in my home. One fax for the sales agreement. Just received my title via overnight carrier. Great experience - I highly recommend it!
  • mdcgatebaymdcgatebay Member Posts: 3
I am living in NJ and thinking about OOS purchase too. The title you are talking about is NJ title or OH title, from Msg 1326, it's been 1 month, what do u mean that u just received title, Tx
  • njmom2boysnjmom2boys Member Posts: 5
Just received the title from OH. Tomorrow we go to NJ DMV to pay NJ state sales tax and transfer my tags. Sorry I wasn't clear. Visiting DMV will probably be the most difficult part of this whole transaction! Planning to be there 1st thing in the morning.
  • phillyeaglephillyeagle Member Posts: 5
Add me on the list of "OOS" buyer, I ordered 2004PilotEXL-res from waikem, akron, OH. I am living in PA.

njmom2boys, I maybe will finance this pilot, so I won't have the actual title until I pay off, right? Then what document I need to get my PA tags?

And I remember the OH temporary tag is only 30 days, why took they so long to send you the title?
Just curious what'd happen if you did not get in a month? I am just worried about if I can't get the PA tag in time. Thanks.
  • bradkapbradkap Member Posts: 12
everyone who is buying in Akron, what are you paying. I am in Cincinnati and would gladly go up there.
  • njmom2boysnjmom2boys Member Posts: 5
I also financed my Pilot. Pruitt Honda sent me the actual OH title and I got it with about a week to spare. I took the OH title to NJ DMV this morning. They issued a NJ title, listing the bank as lienholder. The original NJ title will be sent to the bank.

Also, for my Pruitt purchase (2003 Sagebrush EX), I paid $1500 under MSRP. Maybe not the best price out there, but I had my vehicle in 3 days.

    Good luck to all!
  • bradkapbradkap Member Posts: 12
    thanks, that is very useful.
  • mdcgatebaymdcgatebay Member Posts: 3
so you go to NJ DMV just to transfer OH title to NJ title, right.
  • tcasboytcasboy Member Posts: 214
What you actually will get from selling dealer is the manufacturer's certificate of origin, which can be thought of as the actual original title for the vehicle. You get a temp tag to get home, go into your home state's DMV, apply for a title and registration, and pay your fees and taxes at that time. The only downside is you can't roll the taxes and fees into your payments if you are financing (as far as I know). Your home state (I think NJ is this case) will issue you a document looking like a title with the lienholder info and the bank or whoever you financed with will get to hold the actual title until you pay off the loan. Being retired military I have bought the majority of my vehicles from "out of state" dealers (as my residence was CT but I was always stationed somewhere elst) and never had a problem registering and titling the vehicle in my home state (CT). Sometimes you have to educate the DMV folks about the process but it has worked numerous times for me.

My new state, TN, as far as I know, doesn't protect new cars bought out of state with their lemon law. That is the only downside that I can think of for buying a vehicle out of state. Shop around, think national! Good luck.

I am searching for a good deal in the northwest for a 2004 Pilot EX-L but have only been getting quotes of $900+ over MSRP. I haven't hit all the Honda dealerships yet but it doesn't look promising so far. Anyone else getting deals at or below MSRP in the northwest?
  • mohans60mohans60 Member Posts: 12
    Hi Phillyeagle,

I have also placed order for a Pilot with Navi @ Waikm and am curious to know how much you paid.

Would you please let me know. Thanks.
  • phillyeaglephillyeagle Member Posts: 5
    mohans60,

I ordered a 2004 Honda Pilot EXL_RES SageBrush from Waikem Honda, OH, built date Sept8-12, estimate del date end of Sept:

    EXL_RES SageBrush $30679.00
Docs fee: $100, temp tags: $24.75
    running board $629.00

I have been talking with Waikem-M for almost a month. At first we talked about '03, then changed to '04, although '03 model would save me $600 more, but some new features on the '04 attracted me, so...

Let me know how your deal's going(I think my email is open for now), since you will get your SilverPilot first.

I ordered a 2004 pilot ex leather in the chicagland area. The dealer just called and let me know it will arrive Sept 1st or 2nd. The price was 1,000 under retail which I received from several dealerships in the area. One dealership offered 1,500 over invoice (which approximates 1,500 under retail) but wasn't as clear on the delivery dates as the other dealers. Looking forward to next week!

If you don't need seating for 7 check out the Saturn VUE which for 2004 will use the exact same engine/transmission currently used in the Pilot.

The Saturn will cost a lot less!

Interested in buying a 2004 Pilot with Nav in Philadelphia Area. Need help with the following:

-How can I come to know which dealer can deliver my preference the fastest.
-Will a specific color delay the delivery.
-What does it mean when a dealer says he will order from next month's lot.
-What is the typical wait time in Philly area.
-How does one ensure dealer means what he is promising for delivery dates.
    -Expected price
    -Pitfalls

I looked around the Northwest area (Inland Empire) at 5 dealers. The best price (and service for that matter) was a winner of the Presidents Award for '97/'02, Mick McClure Honda. They are out of the way in Lewiston, ID, but I saved over $800 on a '04 I recently ordered.

Looking to buy Pilot. Trying to figure out difference btwn 03/04 versus price differences.

    Thanks
  • larsontlarsont Member Posts: 3
We had agreed to a price with a Maryland dealer on a 2003 EX-L RES (only $100 less than Edmund's TMV). Then, had a change of heart overnight, and decided we wanted the 2004. They're switching it to a 2004 for us for $300 more. We're super excited, and it'll be here on September 9th, Nighthawk Black with Grey Leather Interior.
  • larsontlarsont Member Posts: 3
By going through the spec sheet line-by-line and talking to my dealer, the only differences are standard heated seats if you get leather, and heated heat power side-view mirrors. A few color changes as well...different blue and you can get saddle interior with black exterior. (Possibly also the immobilizer theft-deterrent system. It's not listed on 2003's spec sheet, but I'm not sure if it was on the vehicle anyway.)

Why are poeple buying from OH? I live in NJ and am considering buying a Pilot. Is it difficult to get the vehicle in NJ? How are the prices? When is the 2004 model coming? Thanks.
  • pilot04pilot04 Member Posts: 23
Thanks stevemontague for the tip with Mick McClure Honda. I'll check them out. I was able to get a few dealers in WA to qoute MSRP but none would budge below MSRP. By the way, did you get any DIO with your Pilot and did you get good prices?

Hi I live in MD - would you mind either posting the dealership where you got are getting your Pilot or send me via email? mooretemp@comcast.net
From what I can see, it looks like you got a very good deal. Thanks!
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,783
its a crap shoot. Folks are buying from Ohio because it has typically been VERY difficult to get a good deal here in Jersey. I am very happy with the deal we got and might have only saved a couple hundred bucks at best if I chose to go with an Ohio dealer. Not worth it to me. YMMV. If you are in no rush and look around and contact several dealers, there is a chance you can get a deal that is satisfactory to all parties. If you can't, you may choose, like many folks have, to contact some Ohio dealers and get one from them. That's all.

I am looking for 2004 for Honda pilot EX-L in boston area.. is anyone got any good deal.. I am ready to pay $1000 above invoice, also is anyone from Massachusetts purchased from Ohio area dealer or out of state? Dealers over here are charging MSRP or maximum 1000 less than MSRP (if they have vehicle in stock - and mostly u won't find vehile u want in their lot)
  • larsontlarsont Member Posts: 3
We got our Pilot at Jim Coleman Honda in Columbia. We added splash guards, wheel locks, side steps/running boards, and a "required" appearance package (pin stripes, door and wheel-well guards a.k.a cheap stuff we didn't need/want but they put on everything, assuming for extra margin). EX-L RES, black with grey leather interior. MSRP is $32,370, plus $460 destination, plus maybe $100 more or less (can't remember) for tags plus $1115 for the options at cost comes to $34045, and we paid $33,000 + tax. They also tried to charge a $100 application/documentation fee and we got them to remove that. They are just starting to get their 2004's in, ours comes in on 9/9. Good luck.

Martin and Conicelli wanted MSRP for '04. Try going outside the city along AMTRAK routes for better deals.

Sounds like you got a beauty! You got a few specs I want too...I'll have to check out Coleman its not that far from me...

I too have been searching for my Pilot in the Boston area. I have emailed and called many dealers from MA,CT,NH & RI and most will not even call you back! If you find a deal for 1k over inv, let me know where. The best deal I found so far is OH @ $1265 over invoice plus $850 to ship on flat bed. I am still shopping.

I just bought a silver Honda Pilot EX (2003) at Honda Village in Newton. I paid 700 under MSRP. It was a pretty good experience. I also got quoted at under MSRP at Bernardi Honda in Natick. Boch said they would order me a 2004 for MSRP and it would be here in two weeks.

I would like to know if Lindalu and Edkruse from Chicago area got their pilots on time, final price they paid for it and dealership name in Chicago.Thank's.
  • jph123jph123 Member Posts: 3
Thanks all. This message board helped me a lot before I started my quote request with dealers here.

I purchased a 2004 Pilot EX-L few days ago at $1,500 under MSRP. If you're in S. CA, you can try either Hardin Honda or Riverside Honda.

Here's what I did. I went to Honda's web site first, found Honda dealers in around 30-mile range from where I live and sent the quote request thru their web. Some will give you quote. Some will not but ask to talk to you in person. My experience tells me that most of dealers are trying to set the price for 2004 at the moment.

For all those looking to buy a Pilot in NE: do not waste your time looking at local dealerships because they are all at best around $1k under MSRP. The Rust belt (OH, MI, IL) and TX were the places to buy over the past 10 months. The prices may have moved up because the new '04s are out but if you hold out (a few weeks) I am sure the prices will moderate back to the old $500-800 over invoice. Addition information: I paid $350 to ship mine 400 mi. Read the posts in this thread that date back a few months and you will know what I mean. Good Luck!

Does anyone know anything about a change in the 2nd row seats for 2004?? They supposedly slide giving more room to the basically unusable 3rd row.

    THANKS

I am just outside Philly. I am looking to lease an EXL RES. The best Dealer quote I found is $200 under MSRP. In addition to MSRP, everyone charges a $550 fee on a lease. Is this standard. Since I am not happy with local prices, I am looking to go through a "Costco" recommended dealership. I found out however, they that also charge this amount / and have a significantly higher interest rate. Please let me know if this fee is required when leasing In addition, is there any other party I can lease from other than Honda Finance?

  • rerenov8rrerenov8r Member Posts: 380
Are not all at uncommon. LOTS of folks in the Chicagoland area offer leases on Honda, I'm sure PA also has many such firms. Typically they don't advertise much, but they are in the phone book, often in the classifieds, and sometimes on-line.

They've tradionally been a "business-to-business" resource, but with increasing awareness of leasing some have setup "direct to consumer" offerings.
  • atalalayatalalay Member Posts: 58
Doc fees are a bogus way of padding the profit back into the deal after the price is negotiated! The only thing you need to pay is the destination fee ($460 on '03 Pilots) and state taxes and registration fees.

If you are interested in more price discovery, try: http://www.mycar.com/new_cars/new_car_auction/historical_prices/d- - efault.asp?make_id=12

I live just outside of Philadelphia. I put a deposit on an 04 EXL RES at $1,000 under MSRP. I think I got a good deal on the accessories: $450 Fog Lights; $120 Cargo Cover and $170 Cross Bars. I will be leasing the Pilot. The interest rate is the same as the other dealers I had contacted (5.04% for 48 months which is a Money Factor of 0.0021). The dealership I am going through is about 100 miles away, but their pricing is by far better than anything else in the Philly area -- they will also deliver the car at no charge. I am leasing the car and the salesperson told me that the accessories cannot be residualized (i.e., you do not add the cost of the accessories to MSRP when calculating the residual value of the car). Can anyone confirm the foregoing? As an FYI, the residual value on a 48 month lease is 56%.
