A fair profit? There is no such thing as fair in my mind. There is just the way things are. You might be able to get the deal at $400 over but it would take some doing I imagine. Your sister can probably do fine on her own. She made a great selection for value, safety, performance.....I'd say that's what is most important. A good deal is a state of mind. Some people think that they got a good deal on their daewoo.

bmwseller: I ordered my car '04 325ci, premium, sport, xenon, silver/grey leather everything at invoice + $1200 markup. You think a order and I have to wait almost a month for the car they a $400 markup is good?
  • jammer53jammer53 Member Posts: 10
Are these prices "out the door prices"? IS, to shoot for invoice+TTL ---> for a total out the door price CRAZY to hope for? I have gotten some quotes and most are like 1500 Above invoice. Good? whats the limit before im being taken advantage of? One dealership wanted 300 ABOVE MSRP??

I have an 03 325ci. I was interested in some Dinan performANCE products such as the cold air intake and performance chip. The price for bot including installation is a little over a grand. My questiion is, has anyone gotten these enhancements done on their vehicle? Second, would I be able to feel the difference for the price? Thanks
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
kennynmd - use the Make/Model search on the left side of the page to find other 3-Series discussions. I'm sure you'll find the right one for that question.

This discussion is specifically focused on prices paid and the actual buying experience. Performance mods are being addressed in other conversations.

I drove a 2003 alpine white 325i with sand leatherette, premium package, and harmon kardon sounds system. Dealer is asking $29,000 +ttl. Think this is a decent price? Anybody heard any serious "horror stories" dealing with the 325i? I will be a first time BMW owner, just want to make sure I'm making a smart decision. Thanks.

This morning, I purchased alpine white 2003 325i leatherette, AT and moonroof for 28500.
Compared to my purchase, I think you and everyone else did much better than I did. Although I am fully aware that I paid couple hundred dollars more than TMV; however, it constantly became a lesser of a issue when I get behind the wheel.
BTW, I am also a first time BMW and fortunately for me, I didn't encounter any horrible experience and I hope you don't either.
Also, be sure to ask what they charge for documentation because I was stuck with additional un-negotiable/fixed $400. If they charge 300 or even 400 for documentation fee, I suggest you counter the offer to at least $28700 or so.

For those of you who are longtime or new BMW owners, what price did you pay for xenon headlights? Just $700? I was quoted 1300-1500 for parts and installation for xenon lights so I politely refused. Can someone shed any idea about this price? Thanks in advance.

    I've just received a price on a new 2002 325i,
with 300 miles; it still has the sticker.
I was offered a price of $29,500 with
    the following options :
        - leather
        - premium package
        - automatic transmission
        - fold down seats
        - steel blue metallic paint

Is this a good price ?

This is a 5 speed right? My bro-in-law picked up a 325i with Xenon, sports package, titanium silver metallic paint and manual - black leatherette. Sticker on it was 31,070. He paid 27,250.

Figure for a 2003 go to invoice, subtract the 2k rebate and add a couple hundred. That's a fair price at this juncture.

Is this car untitled? What the heck has it been doing sitting around all this time?

i got a price of $34,790 (400 over invoice) for a 325i with premium pkg, sport pkg, cold weather pkg, bi-xenon headlights, automatic trans, leather, and floormats. is this a good price? i live in california and they don't offer any rebates here that i know of.

i am ready to buy my first bmw, and wanted to know how to deal for a 2003 325i. should i go by the invoice price then negotiate from there? can they go below the invoice price? any experience on that here in california? what is the fair profit to give to the dealer?
  • rousselroussel Member Posts: 15
invoice price for 325i that i want is 34,390, and i know there is a 2000 manufacturer2dealer incentive for this car. dealer is telling me they can't go below invoice. i am willing to pay 1000 under invoice which gives them 1000 profit already. should i stay firm on this asking price? how much did you guys pay?
  • bmwsellerbmwseller Member Posts: 200
Go back a few pages and read previous posts and negotiate from those figures given here on the sight.

I asked the dealer why they still had the car, but I did not receive a straight answer.
On another issue, I see some references to a
$2000 rebate. I don't see it on Edmunds rebate list. Where is that information ?
  • bmwsellerbmwseller Member Posts: 200
AH........that would be concern. You most likely could be offered the same figure on a 2003. Give me the last 7 digits of the VIN and I can do a BMW vehicle inquiry on the car. That might give some answers.

There is a 2k national incentive on the 325i. It's a manufacturer to dealer incentive. Dealers will not (at least unscrupulous ones) mention it to you.

I live in San Diego. The good dealers - Cunningham - mention the incentive. The bad dealers - San Diego BMW - won't even sniff any deal.

    okok

Since everywhere i look there seems to be a different answer.
ARE there any rebates or incentives i can use to my advantage when going to purchase my car next week on any of these cars???

I know Im not the only one asking, edmunds doesnt list ANY incentives, yet numerous people post about them. Thanks ALOT
Also for all the people posting " I got my car 400 above invoice," "I got mine at invoice" "I got mine at 100 below invoice"
Was this your final price INCLUDING ALL fees, like Advertising costs, Dealer Preps, and Document Preparations. If not how much on average are they charging you?
Thanks Again these answers will help me out, as well as other ALOT!

    03 325i incentive is 2k
    03 330i incentive is 3k

    About 1500 below invoice on a 2003 325i is a nice deal.

    $2500 below invoice is a nice deal on a 2003 330i.

Anything at invoice on a 2003 = buyer is getting ripped off.
  • bmwsellerbmwseller Member Posts: 200
Come on BLUEDOT. A good deal is a state of mind. Just because it drives you nuts to think that the evil dealer is making money selling new cars doesn't mean someone can't feel good about paying whatever they felt was fair. Some people just go to the dealership, buy the car and enjoy it. Are they stupid? In your book, yes.
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249

Yes, people can feel like they got a fine deal. I never said they couldn't. Still doesn't change the fact that the dealer took advantage of them.

BTW, my bro-in-law got almost 4k off his 325i. I still think he got ripped off...it's all a matter of opinion.

Some people just go to the dealership, buy the car and enjoy it. Are they stupid? In your book, yes.

I never would call any person stupid. Ever. The Are they uninformed? Yes.
  • bmwsellerbmwseller Member Posts: 200
Very true bluedot. If you think they "take advantage" of adults that come in and buy on their own free will than that's all that matters. But, I don't think that anyone is holding a gun to a clients head and making them buy the car, right?
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
Once again, these kinds of exchanges belong in any of a number of appropriate discussions on our Smart Shopper board. But I really think the two of you need to just agree to stop posting to each other altogether. :)

Sorry, didn't think this veered away as we're discussing only the cost of 3 series BMWs and fair prices for them. My apologies.
  • jammer53jammer53 Member Posts: 10
haha sorry my post lead to a dispute... but thanks for answering my question, so there are NO discounts on new bmws, I agree with both of you BTW

BLUE------ Of course noone wants to get ripped off, Im buying my car in cash, in full, Its not a money issue with me. Hell I could buy a Brand new BMW M3 if i wanted to. Im NOT braggin, just trying to make a point that, a purchase is all relative to the BUYER, and his or her opinion if they got a good deal or not. Will a dealer overcharging me a couple hundred dollars break me? no, but who wants to get taken advantage of? Who wants to spend an extra 2 thousand on a car they dont have to? Not me id rather give it to charity!

BMWSELLER--- PRice is important , but i agree the MORE time you spend haggling and shopping around the LESS time your in your car driving and realizing how much it was worth it.

I want to thank everyone on here for their advice and help in my purchase decisions Bye!

And not to forget the market you are in. Blueguy you are in SoCal. BMW is like the "national" car of California, lot more dealers, more competition. In lot of places down south there are only 1-2 dealer in a 500 mile radius. It's a virtual monopoly. Therefore, good deal is still relative.

Hello all, I am new in here. I have been offered a new 03 325i, Titaniun Silver, Black leatherette with automatic transmission and premium package for $29600 + tax and license. The invoice is $30615 -$2000 marketing allowance = $28615. The dealer gets $ 985 profit. Is this a good deal?
I am in So. California. Blueguy, could you share any dealers will give good deals in SoCal?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi all,

Does anyone know what the applicable fees for California? I have heard the tax may be between 8-9% depending on where your live but the licensing fee is around 2.5%. I would appreciate if any new car buyers especially in San Francisco Bay area enlighten me on how much they paid for licensing. Thanks

I got my 2003 325i titanium silver with black leather, prem and sport pkg for $31,840 ($1250 below invoice). Thanks to all the discussions here and I found out about the incentive. I got mine in Berkeley, Weatherford BMW. All in all buying experience is a breeze, I dealt with all dealers around the area over the phone. One dealer mentioned he is not aware of any $2K incentive (duh!). The rest are ok. I just have to drive from Sacramento to Berkeley to get this car with the options that I like. None of the dealers close to me have this car. But most of them are willing to give me the car for $1200 under invoice which is $800 profit for them. I am loving my new car! Thanks edmunds.com!

harineth, other than the price of the car, I paid $45 doc fee, $683 registration, $5 for some other fee I can't remember, and 7.75% sales tax for me because i live in sacramento. i bought my car from weatherford bmw in berkeley. i got mine $1250 under invoice price.

i bought my 2003 330i ZHP(High Performance Package), Titanium Silver last month and able to negotiate the price down to $37,600 plus tax and license. In addition, I was able to get the dealer pay for the last 2 months of my lease, so that's another $1,000 savings. My cost to buy the car was $36,600 + tax and license. My 4-door 330i has the following options: 6sp manual trans, xenon headlights, Harman Kardon audio system, 18" M Double Spoke alloy wheels, alcantara/suede interior and silver cube trim. I did a lot research on the web before purchasing the car. I live in the San Jose, CA area. I love the car and can't get enough driving it with all its 235hp. Good luck out there.

    Thanks for your help.

I like Cunningham BMW in El Cajon, CA. They're pleasant, give awesome test drives, will deal and they don't hit you with bogus MACO fees or other extra fees.

I've heard good things about the Irvine dealership as they're so freaking massive they'll move cars based purely on volume.

go to www.bmwusa.com and look under the certified pre-owned inventory to check and see what very nice pre-owned 'bimmers like that are going for. You'll see that not only is that a good price that you've been offered but it's a great value on a super car. I only hope that with all these big discounts going around that it doesn't trickle into the used car market and devalue the car. Buy the BMW with confidence. It's the car that matters.

I paid invoice plus $1,500 (no MACO)

      + TTL

I really am confused and getting pulled in a lot of different directions. Do I get an '03 325i loaded, a stripper '03 330i, a '00 328i, an '01 330i loaded?? I can't seem to focus. There are so many financing options and car options. It took me long enough to evaluate and toss out the G35, A4, TL, 9-3, and RX-8 and now I can't pick which BMW to buy. My decision came down to this. Which car will hold its value the best in the event of a future financial disaster, which car will age the best ( i want to drive this car for probably close to 10 years), and which car is just the most fun to drive with some practicality (i want a manual and i don't really care about that many options other than moonroof and maybe leather).

So, now that I have found the car company I have to pick the car. I don't want to spend too much but I also don't want to get one that is too old and will be a problem. I have no problems with a used car because I think that is where the best values are, but if I plan on keeping it for a while then I should maybe get new. If I buy new then I should get definitely what I want ('03 or '04 330i) but that is a lot of money for a car. If I buy used I get some possible problems but a nicer car than I could afford new.

I apologize for the rambling, but any advice here would be helpful. For example,

    1. Are there any really good or bad model years for 325, 328, and 330's?
    2. Does anybody know anything about the BMW select program?
    3. Where can I find '03's? My local dealer is out of them and I know you can get a good deal now with the man to deal incentives of $2k and $3k?
    4. Just some advice, please. I sold my other car, have $6k in cash I am willing to use, and am car less. My wife is driving me to work. Please help!!!!

The BMW Store in Cincinnati has the perfect car for you.... Brand new '03 325i.. jet black with black leatherette interior.. only options are sport package, moonroof and heated seats. MSRP is $31,445 IIRC. I was shopping this weekend for my wife. Not the way she would option it, but I would love to have it. They only had 3 or 4 other '03s on the lot. The other dealer in town (Jake Sweeney) has about 6 left.. A few 330i's with leatherette..sticker about $38K and two silver 325i with auto/premium/leather etc.. for $35K-$36K MSRP.

If you don't like a lot of options, that first one would be hard to find.. If you can live with '02 and '03 with low miles, check the Chicago area on Autotrader.com.. They have probably sixty used 325i's in that area for sale.

A lot of you must be getting good deals because you live in areas with lots of BMW dealers -- IOW, competition for sales. Here in the Detroit area there are basically just two close dealers and they both sell for sticker, period. Maybe I can talk them into throwing in a dealer accessory like the CD changer or floor mats or something, but they both talk like there's no such thing as discounting a new 325/330. Volumes are just not as high for "import" cars here as in many other areas. Bummer.
