    Kyfdx,

You've been such an incredible help-- thank you!

The dealer said the 1st sec. dep. lowers MF more than additional sec. deps. He was trying to tell us additional sec. dep. wouldn't lower mo. payments a significant amount. Additional deposits reduces MF half as much as the 1st sec. dep., making it $5/mo. less per sec. dep.

    Is that right? Thx. again.
  • dhanleydhanley Member Posts: 1,531
No. That's wrong. There is a slight diminishing return in the form of lowered payments.

Look at it this way, if you invest $100 at 6% interest for 20 years, compounded yearly, you will get $320. if you invest at 7% you get $380. If you invest at 8%, you get $466. Increasing from 7 to 8 got more of a return than the step from 6 to 7. Loan interest rates work the in the inverse fashion; going from 8% to 7% saves you more than by going from 7% to 6%.

In any case, the reduction in MF is constant, and it's generally wise to make more than one SD. You have to run the numbers to see if that sixth and seventh SD will get you a good return. In some cases, the extra SD will lower the payment enough so that all the security deposits will be lower; a very good savings.

    He is correct...

If you aren't a current BMWFS customer, making the initial security deposit lowers the money factor by .00015

If you take advantage of the multiple security deposit (MSDs) program, the reduction for each additional deposit is .00007, or about half as much. (maximum of 7 extra deposits allowed)

Both are good deals, but the savings by making the initial security deposit is a no-brainer. None of the calculations in the first scenario involved making additional deposits. If you are a current customer, then he was marking up the money factor more than I thought, as you wouldn't have to make an initial deposit. You don't have a BMW lease now, do you?

I have noticed the same thing once the cars get into the "pricey" category. From what I can gather, leasing allows the buyer (actually renter) to get more car than they can really afford (or choose to spend). Also seems good if you do not have (or want) to put much down on the vehicle. Also seems aimed at those not interested in keeping vehicles more than a couple of years.

Well, just in case it actually helps anyone...

Was looking for a 335i Coupe in the Boston area, but was told flat out that earliest delivery would be sometime in October and selling price was MSRP. Period. *Maybe* a little wiggle room, but not much. According to the dealer (any my experience searching local inventories), in this area, the car is "a ghost".

So, test drove a 335i Sedan and really liked it. Nice step up from my current 330ci engine wise...

Here's the deal I ended up with (not the best, not the worst):

    335i Sedan
Premium, Sport and Cold Weather Packages, Comfort access
    3 Year / 36,000 mile lease

    MSRP: $45,425
    MF: 0.00175
    Res: 63%
    Cap Reduction: ZERO
    State sales tax: 5%

Total Monthly Payment: $570.00 (first offer from dealer was a whopping $635)

Seemed like a reasonable deal and should be picking the car up today. If it is a reasonable deal, I have to give much thanks and praise to kyfdx.

I am getting two different offers from two different dealers. Since I decide to go with one in stock, both 328i come with different options but not much in difference. Both dealers used a current BMW lease MF/RV(0.00140/61%).

    Dealer 1
    328i MSRP 36420(Inv 33585)
    Base Cap Cost: $34355
    Mo Pmt: $443.00 (Inc Tax)
    Up-front cost: 1st month 450 + Bank Fee 625 + Doc 249 + MV Fee 337 + Security Dep 500= 2161

    Dealer 2
    328i MSRP 35425(Inv 32680)
    Base Cap Cost: $33425
    Mo. Pmt: 433.64 (inc Tax)
Up-front cost: 2167 Total(He didn't itemized but he said Sec Dep was 450)

Despite of having $50 difference in security deposit, both dealers had same up-front cost. Do I have any more room to lower up-front cost?
    Thanks in advance.

    My first post here.
I get an offer for a 2007 328i with the following options:
Steptronic + Premium package for $35920 + tax...
And I am living in Irvine, CA. Is this considered a good offer?
Another car with same options plus xenon light for $36650. Does it make good sense to add 730 for the Xenon light, which may annoy other people when I am driving behind them?
And is there some room to squeeze the price down a bit?
Thanks in advance for your advice!
  • carnutfancarnutfan Member Posts: 19
This car should sell for 500 over invoice. If they won't, then walk. They are a dime a dozen. If you drive at night, get the xenons. Are you leasing?

Sorry for the double post, but I got no answer in the Lease forum.

    MR. Host (or anybody else),
Can you please post the current lease rates/terms (MF & residuals) for the 328i and 335i (Coupe and Sedan).
I think I read back 500 posts, but could not get all the numbers together... 24-36 mo and 12-15K miles/yr.
  • lianqiwlianqiw Member Posts: 2
Thanks. The dealer claims that the invoice price from edmunds are lower by 460 than theirs because edmunds don't include the MACO + training service fees. Should we pay the MCAO + traning fee as a part of invoice then add 500? Thanks for the suggestion about the xenon light.

Trying this forum since my question wasn't answered in the lease section.. sorry for the double post.

I am trying to lease a BMW 328i, completely stock but with the automatic transmission. Here is what my dealer quoted me:

No money down, 36 mos. Lease, 10,000 miles per yr., is $499.00 plus tax per mo.
OR $399.00 per mo. With $2900.00 down.

    Msrp $34,450.00
    Factor .00155
    Residual 64%

    is this a good deal?

What I think you may need to consider is that the people who provide information on these boards (both here & lease) are generally in the education mode, as opposed to fire-fighting.

CarMan, who does the lease board shows up every 3-4 weeks to actually answer questions. The response here is generally quicker, but not same-day by any stretch.

As nearly as I can tell, the objective of the hosts on these two boards is to give us the tools we need to figure all this stuff out way before we ever set foot in a dealership. We'll know what's what & can deal with them directly.

If you're already negotiating at a dealer & need information here, you're likely to be disappointed.

When are the 2008 models expected out? Wouldn't this be the time to get the best deal on any existing 2007's?
  • guy1974guy1974 Member Posts: 119
I am assuming you are looking at a sedan. It is a bad deal. I am leasing a 328i sedan with automatic, sports pack, metallic paint, comfort access and leather for $455 per month including tax (3% in NC). This is for 36 months, 15K per year. It does include the maximum number of security deposits ($4000) but these are refundable. Without the security deposits it would be around $500 a month.

You are looking at only 10K and several thousand less in MSRP since you just want automatic. I would expect you could get $450 easily.

You should get around $1000 above invoice and a money factor of 0.0014 is the buy rate with the maximum being 0.0018 that a dealer can mark it up (as long as you give one security deposit). Ask your dealer for the numbers behind the monthly figure.
  • idyllidyll Member Posts: 4
Yep, just as I thought. Thanks a lot for the response, I appreciate it :)

I asked the dealer how much the monthly payment would be if I put a security deposit down and he said "not much, only $10 less or so, that is why the $0 option makes the best sense" - ha! Even $10 less per month would equal to $360 after 36 months, which is still something. I'm going to try and see what putting down $4000 in security deposits does.
  • guy1974guy1974 Member Posts: 119
When I was looking to lease one dealer was pushing me to put $1000 down as cap reduction rather than $4000 down as security deposits saying that it was similar. Only problem is I would lose $1000 whereas the $4000 would be refunded. Security deposits work out at about a 10% tax free return so pretty much a win-win if you can afford to be without the money for the term of the lease.
  • black00black00 Member Posts: 48
    kyfdx,
I must have misunderstood how the security deposits work, as it seems to good to be true...
I'm calculating a lease for a 328i sedan and by using the money factor of 0.0014 I came up with a payment of $450.
    Then I did 0.0014-0.00015-0.00007-0.00007-0.00007-0.00007-0.00007-0.00007-0.00007 = 0.00076

I.e. with the maximum possible security deposits, the money factor goes from 0.0014 to 0.00076?

    Is this right? :confuse:
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,273
.0014 is including the first security deposit...

    So, subtract 7 X .00007 from that... = .00091

MF 1.4 is the same as 0.0014 - some people find it easier to ignore the extra zero's. This is the current buy rate so the lowest the dealer can go with only one security deposit.
I would think tax is on top - depends on your state but it looks like you would add the appropriate % on top of your monthly payment.

    328Xi

I live in the Twin Cities

i wouldn't blink at a CPO'd 335. The tremendous loss one takes on a new BMW makes them far less attractive than a 2-3 year old one. My sister's 2007 328 wagon would have sold for about 49k new. She paid 33k for it CPO'd. I guess the downside is that it's used. The upside..the car's taken its major depreciation hit.
  • bmwinsidemanbmwinsideman Member Posts: 7
The lease is not great. BMW does not have to incentivize it. Check your bank to see what kind of lease they can do on it or if you belong to Navy Federal Credit Union...the will be able to do the lease with out paying the taxes which will lower it atleast probably around $60.

I am in North Carolina and I am shocked how the vehicle is doing around the country. In North Carolina we are taking deposits on Coupes and Convertibles. Non avaliable to see or test drive and the deposits are still coming in. Are convertibles avaliable in your areas?

Can somoene please provide me with the current lease rates for a 328i coupe. I was offered a 36 month lease with 12,000 annual miles with a money factor of 1.4 (with one security deposit) and a residual value of 60%. It seems that the residual value is a little low. Is this a good deal? Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I am interested in the 335xi sedan and was wondering about the current (July) residual and money factor for a 36 month/15K mile/yr lease.

I was quoted $1,500 off MSRP for the car with a residual of .61 and a MF of 0.0025 for 39 month lease. I would consider a 39 mo. lease as well if the deal was significantly better.

Also, are the lease rates significantly different for the 328 vs 335 and the xi vs the i models?

    Thanks in advance
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,273
    .0023 and 61% for the 335Xi sedan.. 3yr/45K.

No idea on 39 month rates..

The RWD sedans have lower money factors than the AWD models, and the 328 models are lower than the 335 models..

Residuals are the same, for just about all the 3 series sedans... 61% for 3yr/45K.

The 328i sedan, RWD, has the best MF... .0014

60% residual is correct for 3yr/36K on the coupe.

I show the base rate as .0016, though.... .0014 is for the sedan.

    Hi everyone,

I ordered a 328 coupe a month ago and finally got a production number yesterday. When I went online to track my car, the website said that my order was 328i instead of 328ci. I called the dealer and he said that he in fact ordered a 328i coupe and everything was fine. I was wondering if anybody had a similar experience and if this kind of a mixup is common for BMW website. Thanks in advance...

    Hi kyfdx,

Thanks for all the great advice on this forum.

I am thinking of leasing a new 328i sedan w/ auto, premium package, sports package, metallic paint.

    MSRP $39,775
    Selling price $37,600
Invoice Price $37,120 (includes "MACO" fee of $300 and training fee of $180)
    MF 1.4
    36 months / 15 k miles
    Residual 61% ($24,262)
    Drive off $1,409 (Security deposit of $550 + First Month $515 + License $341)
Monthly payment is $478 + tax
An $800 acquisition and document fee is included on the cost of the lease.

Do you think this is a good deal for Southern California?

Is it correct to add the MACO and training fees to the invoice price of the vehicle ?

    Thanks for your advice!!

That looks like a pretty good deal...

It really doesn't matter what they add to the invoice.. The invoice is what the dealer pays for the car. You only have to worry about the selling price, and your price looks good.

You are getting the base money factor... My calculations come within $2/mo. of these... I see no reason not to grab that deal.

What type of #'s should I be watchful for when dealing?
