Update: Bought 2015 Civic SE today!! Originally wanted EX or EX-L but realized price was too high for my budget.
Edmunds Price Promise was so helpful in directing me to the right dealership (Valencia). They were the only offer I received via email with OTD pricing. This is the breakdown:
List Price: $17319.68 Doc Fee: $80 Tax: $1565.97 Reg/Title: $221.75 Other fees: $30 OTD: $19217.40 APR: 0% (yay!)
I had a great buying experience and plan on using this dealership again in the future. I'm female and have had terrible experiences at other dealers in the past.
Thanks to everyone for posting, it made a huge difference!
Whats the best sale price for 2015 Honda Civic LX in NY (excluding Tax and DMV fees). ? I see asmanikabutar got it for 16,150 in CA. how about in NY, anybody bought or planning to buy in NY on labor day?
My experience so far has been that if you are able to get a deal for $800-1000 less than the true promise price, its a pretty good deal. Here in CA, the lowest truecar quote I received was $16,888; I eventually bought for $16,150. Others on this thread have managed to get quotes for under 16k, but I assume those needed financing from the dealership which I did not want to do.
Now that I bought my Civic, a friend wants to buy one too. I am helping him find a good deal. Since this is not near month-end, the dealer I got the car is not too interested in giving the price that I got for.
Can someone help me understand the dealer cost for Civic, so we know how low we can negotiate? From my search online, it seems that the invoice is $17,934, the holdback is 2% of MSRP ($19,290) which comes to $385.80. Additionally Honda is giving a $500 hidden cash incentive.. so dealer cost is 17934 - 385 - 500 = $17,049. Is this correct (ballpark)?

It's probably close but nobody knows what the true number is.

Thanks. Question for forum members & mods -- Are there any incentives the dealer receives if you finance vs. pay outright? I don't see any on the edmunds website (other than leasing), but several dealers seem to be willing to lower the price a bit if we finance instead... are these dealers just trying to bump up the rate to profit, or is there an incentive they receive from Honda?

There is $1000 of dealer cash that should be available even on a cash purchase, but it's possible that it is restricted to lease or finance customers.
It's also possible that they are marking up the financing some for extra profit, allowing them to drop the price some.
Franklw - if you can break down all the cost I would greatly appreciated since I thought the OTD price of 18.5k for a 16.2k is a bit high. Is the tax in IE higher than than OC?
Just purchased '15 Civic SE for 19,100 OTD in so cal. Sorry don't have breakdown on hand.
Bottom line though is you shouldn't pay over $18,500 for a SE. And I'd say not under $19,300 for a EX. (Personally I don't think the trims add ons are worth the EX). Went to about 3 dealers and this is best I could do with limited time. Had I bargained harder and went back and forth for 3 weeks I could have got 18500.
I finally got a '15 Civic SE in Orange County CA. OTD was about 18,500. I used their financing dept and got an extra 500 dollars discount + a 0.9% for 60 month. To me, the $500 is pretty much my interest payment in 5 years at .9%.
Hi, first post. This has been a very helpful source to refer to on my car buying adventure. Thanks everyone for posting!!!
Wanted to share my deal as well from SoCal last weekend:
Honda Civic SE 2015 (MSRP - $20,810)
Got $18,740 out the door. (car was $16,888 + standard fees) as well as 0.9% for 60 months. Dealing with edmunds + Gardena Honda was an awesome experience. Very upfront and honest -- didn't play any games.

How is $17,799 before tax of course, for a 2015 Honda Civic SE Sedan? Was Demo car, but only 5k miles on it. Upstate NY dealer. Love the car and options on SE model! Great commuter and small family transportation!
cmsc199q, where (what city/state) did u buy your civic ex? That sounds like a good deal for OTD price. Congrats...
Thanks! I bought it at Burleson, TX. The OTD price doesn't include the Tax though. All in all, with TTL, it came out to be $19,156.00 and that also includes the trade in value and Honda graduate.

I guess in month of September, dealers are trying to get rid of 2015 models
Please guide
Purchased a new 2015 Honda Civic EX sedan on Sept 7 (Labor Day) for $19,300 out the door in California. No dealer add ons.
Breakdown:
Price $18015.60
Doc fee $80
CA Orange County sales tax $1447.65
electronic reg. $29
license fee $118
Reg/title fee $81
CA tire fee $8.75
smog fee $20
Total $19,800
Less $500 (Honda's College grad discount for financing)
$19,300 total "out the door" cost for 2015 Civic EX sedan
Bottom line though is you shouldn't pay over $18,500 for a SE. And I'd say not under $19,300 for a EX. (Personally I don't think the trims add ons are worth the EX). Thanks for all the info everyone.
