While I picked a number in the poll in reality I tend to check based on experiance with any particular vehicle . New vicgilce gets checked fairly often until I feel comfortable it is ok. As they age I check more often when they may start to have an appetite for oil.

The other question I didn't include is:

Do you check your oil "hot" (but after it's drained back into the pan for 5 or 10 minutes) or "cold", after the car has sat all night?

I generally check mine hot while pumping gas (with a short ~5 minute drain time).

Depends on which car--- the newer one, monthly. The old guy, weekly.

I tend to check stone cold, if I do check when hot it is also after 5 mins after shutoff.

The other option for poll I could think of is one maybe better not asked:

'I assume the Oil Life Monitor (perhaps incorrctly) will tell me when I need to add oil'

heh, that would be good. The "automatic" dipstick in the Jaguar F-Type R long term road test was the impetus for this poll.

With our Hondas, rarely. Less often than I should.

We have never owned a Honda that needed oil between changes so I've become lazy.

Still when I do check them they are always full.

On our 149,000 mile BMW, every month or so. It's always full too.
