part of the package when you crush rape for oil is etrusic acid, which is poisonous. there are poisonings in remote corners of europe all the time because non-filtered oil is sold for metal protection and so on. the acid can be filtered out. the result is edible rapeseed oil, which is actually low in saturated fat and a pretty good oil to cook with. well, the canadian export board figured out that it's hard to sell a boatload of rape to somebody, it has a cachet of negativity to it. so they trademarked the acronym of canola oil.

rapeseed used to be considered a noxious weed in wheat fields, hence the name. spread like dandelions.

and they say you can't learn anything except fifteen obscene words for "snow and cold" when you live within radio range of the Canadian border !! so, like, take off, eh!

oh... it is a light oil with low molecular weight compared to such items as soybean oil, so it's probably going to be horrid mileage if you want to play with it as a subsitute for diesel. don't forget the buffers and lubricants if you do that... and no, I don't know which additives you put in to do that. the home-energy guys probably have info on the web. google it if you're interested.
