I received an eprice quote from Hugh White in Columbus, OH for an 2012 AWD EX, without a trade, for more than the $22,500 you posted. Could you please confirm the dealer you finally bought from was Hugh White and the model was an EX and not the LX?

Bringing in a check from my own bank made a huge difference in the experience.
I bought through Honda superstore in Joliet. Decent experience, outside of the finance guys "just give me the blank check, ill fill it out in back" ah, no thanks. Overall, staff was very good. Valley Honda also seemed very willing to come near the price I wanted as well, but only had black, the ONE color the wife refused. I would recommend Joliet Honda Superstore, just watch those finance guys...

I traded in a 2011 Malibu 2LT with very low mileage for $15,500. Could I have gotten a better deal? Probably. But I got the car I (or, I should say, my wife) wanted at the price I wanted. I was surprised that the car didn't come equipped with any dealer add ons, so there was no annoying negotiating over unwanted equipment. They briefly mentioned an extended warranty which I declined, and never once tried to push fabric protection, rustproofing, etc. Overall a better than average car buying experience.

We cant say who we dealt with on Edmunds, just the dealer. I got internet quotes from 5 dealers and pretty much set everything up through their internet sales girl, who set me up with a salesman when we went it just to sign papers (and get worked over by the finance guy.) By day three of dealing I had three very good quotes from 3 different dealers.
I had a great guy from Valley Honda too. Valley seemed so professional and polite I would have been just as happy buying there, but they only had Black, which my wife hated. So we ran over to Honda Superstore of Joliet and fell in love with Polished Metal. The staff at Joliet was pretty good. We werent offered coffee or water, and the finance guy tried the 'ill fill out your check' trick, but other than that the staff was very good.
To the EX-vs-LX guy, for us the EX wasnt worth it. Fogs, Tint I am adding myself. Moonroof, outdated bad-resolution nav, easily dentable alloy wheels, hold no interest for me. Not worth the $4k upcharge IMO, plus higher insurance rates. I do miss the passenger armrest though, they skipped it on the LX (possible oversight after tsunami).
Let me add, due to black plastic cladding and handles on the LX, I dont believe it would look best with some colors. Black wouldnt matter, and on my polished metal I think the black handles and cladding look BETTER than body color, because they make a really nice looking accent for the polished metal. So if youre going for an LX (which is your best deal anyway) try and look at all colors before buying sight-unseen.
i have dark blue so it does blend with outside mirror and door handle.....

Having this info, I took the second step, and used their car buying service. This entails sending my info to three dealers in my "area". I live in Southern Worcester County of Mass (about 10-15 miles north of the borders w/ RI and CT). I received info from Metro Honda of Johnston, RI, Curry Honda of Chicopee, MA and Peters Honda in Nashua, NH. I also used AutobyTel, and received a quote from Lundgren Honda in Auburn. Lastly, to be fair, I asked for info from Herb Chambers Honda in Westboro, MA since I had taken my test drive there.
The first four dealers all provided me with a quote. Herb Chambers never responded. My bet is that they don't want to deal with a well informed buyer.
Metro Honda offered the best price, $23,550 OTD. Then came Peters Honda in Nashua, $24,700. Curry and Lundgren both were at $25,300. Both offered warranties. Curry, 100K miles and available for use anywhere. Lundgren, 70K miles, only through them. They also offered coupons on service at their location. And a free loaner on all service.
Having this info, I started researching dealerships. Metro Honda has a terrible reputation. I used several websites and they came up time and time again as having customers sit and wait, and then customers find out that the price quoted didn't include some fee or something. Some folks complained about lost deposits. Others, about the rudest service. And all said they were hard ball sales guys. As soon as they got my information (through Consumer Reports) I started receiving calls. It was amazing! Fortunately, I don't get many 401 area code calls, so I always knew who it was that was calling and I ignored them. And I decided not to deal with them. I don't need those kinds of headaches. And I suspect the offer was picked out of the air because at first, they never even provided me with a price. I had to go back and forth with them several times before I got a price. And I really don't know what this included (destination, origination, other fees).
I decided against Curry and Lundgren. Lundgren has a "no haggle price". And I knew they would say that the price difference between them and Peters would be the value of their warranty, coupons, etc. I'm not a warranty guy. Especially since its only good with them. I'd end up being tied to them for my service and if I wasn't happy, too bad... So, they were out.
Curry had a good reputation, but they were still $800 more than Peters. And as I said, I'm not a warranty guy, at least, not an aftermarket warranty. Also, I knew that their argument would be that the price difference between them and any other dealer would be the value of the warranty.
Right from the start, I liked Peters. I dealt with their on-line sales consultant, Danielle. She answered all of my questions. At one point, I did have to ask if the price quoted (originally it was $24,300) was everything. She told me that they did not include origination fees, and the OTD price was $24,700. She promised I could walk in, provide my money and leave within a VERY short time. I checked them out on-line. Of course, I found a couple of bad ratings, although when I read these, I found that the folks complaining had unreasonable expectations. So, I contacted my Credit Union to pre-arrange financing and then I committed to Peters. Danielle put me in touch with Steve Euous in the sales dept. Steve called me. We discussed how everything should go, and then I asked him about financing. He told me he could help and I provided him with my credit info. OVER THE PHONE, he was able to tell me that he could provide me with 1.99% financing, 0.75% LESS than my Credit Union.
Since I live in Mass, I could not get plates w/o paperwork from Peters. Peters does not belong to the Massachusetts Drive Program (dealer program which is hooked up with the Mass RMV). As such, I would need to go to the RMV to pay my sales tax and reg fees). So, I would have to do the registry processing myself. And Nashua is about 65-70 miles from my home. But, for $600 dollars (and who knows if all the fees were included at Curry and Lundgren), it was worth it to me. So, I took the next day off and went to Nashua. I walked in, met with Steve. We completed the credit paperwork. We completed the P&S, the Doc of Origin, and I had everything I needed. I arrived at Peters at 8:45 and left for my run by 9:45. They offered to give me the car w/ dealer plates to do my registry processing, but I had already driven up. So, that wasn't necessary. I drove back to Mass, got my wife's sig on the necessary paperwork (co-sign of loan), went to my Insurance Agent to adjust my coverages (we added the CRV, no trade as my 17 year old will drive my old car) and then my 17 year old and I drove to the RMV. That took about an hour, but all in all, I had arrived at Noon, in Worcester, so 1 hour wasn't too bad.
I got my plates, and then my son and I drove back to Nashua. I went into the dealer at 2:00. Provided my paperwork, saw the financing person, Heather. I expected the other shoe to drop, but no drop. She did offer me several warranty choices, but I only had to tell her once that I wasn't interested. And we finished up in about 45 min. Car was waiting for me...
I have to say, easiest auto purchase I've EVER made!! I mean it was a breeze. I kept expecting the other shoe to drop. But as Steve said, "there's no sense in acting that way. I don't want to do it. I know you know the info because its all out on the internet. So there's no need. We don't operate like that." And, he was right. An honest Car Salesman!! I'll give Peters EVERY opportunity with my next and future Honda purchases.
Also, I now have 750+ miles on the car. 28.3 mpg. Drives like my wife's RDX. What a great car!!
Tax isn't too bad where I live (About 6%), so I figure OTD price will be around $27000
I'm in St. Louis and getting quotes from dealers for a CRV exl AWD and the lowest is 26,630 with all season mat + splash guard thrown in.. Is that a good deal or could i do better .. Pls. let me know..
But, like TrueCar, you are then just looking at numbers.... not getting anyone else's personal experience.

Check out my lengthy post, #11479. I think if you follow those steps, you'll get a price you'll like. $26000 is too much. I live on the east coast (suburban Boston) and my price was $24700 before taxes and state fees. Good luck!
