    Great deal, great car. Enjoy!

I was offered $20333 for the i6 w/ sprt pkg - Auto Trans. 17"Alloy wheels cargo net & wheel locks

I'm picking it up Fri. for an overnite test drive I may offer 20100 or 300 overinvoice.

Does anyone know if there's any dealer hold back or dealer incentives on this car

That price does not include $1500 rebate that's still available

After the cashiers check was handed to the salesman and the car was to be delivered this week I was ecstatic. Except today they found out one minor detail, they somehow already SOLD the car and forgot to tell us. Considering that was the only car I wanted with the exact options, I will most likely not be bying from mazda
  • audia8qaudia8q Member Posts: 3,138
your not buying from mazda...your buying from your local dealer. So why not just buy from a reputable dealer?
  • sweetsixteensweetsixteen Member Posts: 40
I have been to every mazda dealer here in about a 50 mile radius, and that was the only deal that was willing to bargain. My guess is they found a better price and gave me some lame excuse. But whatever the case, that was the exact car I wanted, and there isnt a car that is too similar to that that wont be here for at least a couple months. I may have to give up a manual gearbox for an auto trans. What is you input on the performance of their auto transmissions?

I am looking into purchasing a 6i with the 4-speed automatic and a few other options, but when you look at each of the packages, it says it requires this and that.
However, I test drove an 04 i the other day which had some options on it without the 'required' other stuff. I was wondering if anyone knew if that's a dealer thing or if you can really get by ordering just specific stuff and it's just a scam to get you to order more.
Specifically, all I really want is the moonroof, side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes and rear spoiler. The white '04 I drove had the moonroof, Bose system, AT, rear spoiler and 8-way power seat, and I could aftermarket leather to it for another $900.
But on every auto website, including Edmunds, this car seems like an anomoly because you're supposed to add the sport package, get the Bose sound system, 17 inch wheels. Next thing I know, I'm up to a MSRP of over 25,000 for a 4-cylinder car w/o leather.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  • rlb1965rlb1965 Member Posts: 1
The rear spoiler is half the sport package anyway. It's better to have the factory put on the spoiler than the dealer. My deal:

    Luxury package
    Sport package
    Moon roof
    Side and curtain airbags
    Bose stereo
MSRP just over 27K, Invoice over 24,600
    Price with rebate 23,013.

Mazda White plains, NY wanted to sell it to me for 21,600, but I my car was not coming in until end of august.

Just picked it up last week...5-speed, steel gray with black cloth. Only option I wanted was the security package, and as you all know it comes with the sport package. Purcashed at Fitzgerald in Annapolis, MD (part of fitzmall.com)

    Price:$19688
    Out the door:$20709

Works out to about $1300 under invoice, which is inline with most of the Mazda6 inventory at fitzmall. Totally painless purchase, BTW. No high pressure add-on sale pitches, dealt only with my rep and the finance guy to pay and sign loan paperwork. Loving the car so far...that hatchback is huge!

Late in June '04, I paid $21,872 on a wagon from dealer inventory listed at $26,130 MSRP (w/ shift-AT [sorry, compromised on 5sp stick for spouse] + sunroof-Bose-side bags pak), before Michigan tax. That's after $1500 incentive + 400 from dealer = $24,230, plus a Ford Engineering Partner discount. Use a rewards card for your downpayment and get 1-2% more off! I was so happy at the bottom line I think I forgot to negotiate the MSRP. Dealer must be happy, too.

Very pleasant buying experience after online research: Mazda makes its salespeople be almost over-solicitous with their check-off lists. Mazda was the only dealership that didn't insist on sending someone with me for test drives. The wagon feels like a Miata with cargo room!

Note: you might do $2000 better on your trade-in by selling it on your own.
  • tzoomertzoomer Member Posts: 18
Edmunds.com build-it now shows Mazda has raised its Base Price for the 2004 Mazda6s Wagon +300 to $22,525, from 22,225. Option prices look the same.
  • sweetsixteensweetsixteen Member Posts: 40
The day before I bought my hatchback the price went up 300$. Grr.....
  • tzoomertzoomer Member Posts: 18
That IS sad! But hopefully you WERE able to find a car again close to your ideal, after that shabby deal with the "pre-sold" vehicle.

I was quoted $19,975 for a Mazda6 hatchback with security and Bose packages. Whatcha think?

I went to look at a Mazda6 s hatchback yesterday, and put down a deposit today. The dealer told me that they just came out with a new offer -- $1000 cash back AND 0% financing for 36 months. Previously, it was 0% or $1500 cash back, but if you took the cash back (and you can still get the $1500), no reduced rate financing. When I spoke to the dealer today they told me they were not positive that it was 0% as they had told me yesterday, but the sales manager called me tonight and told me that it's definitely 0% for 36 months and $1000 cash back. I figure it's worth the extra $500+tax to get use of Mazda6's money for 3 years.

I'm buying a 6s hatchback pretty much loaded.. Luxury package, Bose package, side airbags, dimming mirror (no Homelink). This one is black with black leather interior. The dealer also had one in red but without the side airbags, and at this price it seems ridiculous not to have that feature. I have access to Ford Partner pricing so I'm paying $10 below invoice, less $500 loyalty cash (that old 626 that's been sitting in my driveway for 3 years finally came in handy --now they can come and take it away!), less the $1000.
  • misterbillmisterbill Member Posts: 60
When did they raise the price on the hatchback? I am in the process of buying one, and the price on the invoice I was given by the dealer matches what I found at Edmunds.. $23,195 for the 6s. And the date on the invoice is July 6th, which would seem to be before the posts here were saying that the price had gone up.
  • grahambgrahamb Member Posts: 47
You'll love the car....I have the same exact one and it's great! The hatchback is so versatile, I don't understand why anyone would get the sedan.

Check out the Edmunds.com Low APR Vs. Cashback calculator to see if the 0% APR AND $1,000 beats an APR from your bank and $1,500 back. I'm guessing that it will, but it's worth evaluating.

    http://www.edmunds.com/apps/calc/CalculatorController?tid=edmunds- .n.pcalc.calculator.tab.1.*
  • misterbillmisterbill Member Posts: 60
Yeah, I used a similar calculator that compared taking the financing vs paying cash, and at 0% vs $500, it pays to take the financing. At 0% vs $1500 it's an entirely different story.

And yes, I do not understand why anyone would buy a sedan over a hatchback, especially given that the hatchback looks better, too. But Americans do not seem to like HB's.. I had a 1989 626 5-door, which I really loved. But then Mazda stopped making the 5-door for a while, so my last 2 cars have been a Taurus Wagon (from hell), and a Hyundai Elantra GT, which is also a 5-door (and a great deal, I wish they had something larger in a comparable style, but they don't). In fact, Hyundai came out with a normal 4-door version of the GT after the first year, presumably to get people who did not want the 5-door variety.
  • rampedramped Member Posts: 358
The reasons I prefer the sedan to the hatchback are, 1) more headroom in back of the sedan, and 2), there is no inside hatch release. It's a lot easier just to press a release and have the trunk pop up when someone is tossing stuff in the back.

Also, the shelf that hides items in the hatch can get in the way with a big load and you have to store it somewhere. I like hatches, had them all during the '80s and '90s, so I guess for me it's a case of, "Been there, done that." The 6hatch is pretty, though.
  • sweetsixteensweetsixteen Member Posts: 40
Pretty? Its freakin orgasmic (Sry I own one)
  • ericzoomericzoom Member Posts: 213
I have the sedan also and I agree with you completely about the pros and cons of the hatch.

I found an 2004 6i sedan with 17,500 miles. The only option is the automatic transmission. Ran a CARFAX and found car to be from a rental fleet. Looking to save a few bucks by buying used. TMV per Edmunds on a new 2004 6i is $17,787 (after $1,500 rebate). Honda dealer is asking $17,900, I was thinking about offering the dealer $14,500 cash. In my mind, car is nearly 20% used with 17,500 miles and I'm a little nervous about it being off rental. Although when looking at the car everything appears is great shape. Any input on off rentals and on price??? Thanks in advance.

'Also, the shelf that hides items in the hatch can get in the way with a big load and you have to store it somewhere.'

That's a moot point, since if you have to take away that shelf in the hatch, then it means it won't fit in the sedan at all. The hatch is in my opinion far superior to the sedan. but to each his own.
  • rampedramped Member Posts: 358
Not to beat this to death, but I am constantly amazed about how much stuff I can pack into my Nissan Maxima (with a smaller trunk than the 6 sedan) when I have to. Of course, big boxes that you may be able to wedge into the hatch won't fit into a sedan trunk, but on most days, it is pretty much a wash.

But, you are right. To each his own, and this is probably off topic here. I'm hoping that Mazda ups the rebate on the 6 sometime this month so I can post a buyer's experience story...
  • ericzoomericzoom Member Posts: 213
I find people (including myself) tend to abuse rental cars because there is a pyscological thing that you don't own it,you might as well see if it could break the land speed record or corner like a Indy 500 race car.You don't care what happens to it (within reason) because you end up giving it back.On the plus side the rental co. does tend to adhere to the maintainance schedules pretty well. That just my opinion.
  • tweet651983tweet651983 Member Posts: 32
Thanks ericzoom. I took the car for a two hour (over lunch... sorry boss) test drive. I happened to stop at a friend's brother local garage (a certified mechanic that I trust), he found nothing wrong..so I am going to try to buy tomorrow. Any comments on a $14,500 goal for purchase.

The price target seems very good for that car.If you want more info. on prices go to the Kelly blue book website and put in all the parameters for car appraisal.Good luck.

Looking at a Mazda 6s hatchback. The car is pretty much loaded except the luxury package. The MSRP is 27,200. The dealer just quoted me 23,700 this is less the $1500. This is the same as the TMV. Is this a fair price?
  • grahambgrahamb Member Posts: 47
    Fair? Yes.
    Could you do better? Yes.

I had multiple dealers willing to do it for invoice or below.

It's just a matter of how hard you want to push.
  • jesslexjesslex Member Posts: 2
Well I had a recent quote of $22,350 or something like that for a Mazda 6s hatchback, manual transmission, sport pkg, luxury pkg, bose sound, moonroof, compass/autodim/homelink. This was including the $1500 back and I remember noting it was something like $700 under (Edmunds') invoice price. (I'm not convinced Edmunds' invoice prices are all that accurate.)

I now have a quote for a Mazda 6s wagon (I decided I like the wagon better) which has manual transmission, sport pkg, luxury pkg, moonroof, autodim/compass (no homelink), roof rails, bose sound. The quote is $21,900. This is something like $1100 under (Edmunds') invoice price.

By the way, does anyone want to comment on that quote? It seems to be pretty darn good. I'm guessing there are some dealer incentives behind this price as well, but I'm wondering if there's any evidence that there's more room to play.
  • rampedramped Member Posts: 358
The Mazda 6 seems to be selling for a hundred or so over invoice, less the rebate, so anywhere around $1,200 under invoice total sounds pretty good to me. You might do better later in the month, but if you found what you like, why take the chance of losing it?

By the way, Edmund's invoice prices are usually spot on.

    Hey hows everyone doing.

I was wondering what a good deal on a Mazda 6 s Sedan would be? Would invoice minus the 1500 dollar incentive be a good price on the car. Right now im thinking of

    Luxury Package
    Sport Package w/ spoiler
    Bose Audio Package
    Moonroof
    AutoMatic Transmission

    MSRP 26890
    Invoice 24346
    Minus 1500 rebate

    Total: 22846

If i get that price with only Tax, Title, Liscense, and Registration added on (no b/s fees)....is that a good price or should i shoot for a few hundred under the invoice minus the 1500 Rebate.

Looking for this in Houston, Texas. Thanks for the help!

Just got a quote of $23,380 on the following:

    5-spd manual
    Bose audio
    Luxury package
    Sport package
    Moonroof & side air bags/curtains
    Moonroof wind deflector

That's below edmunds.com TMV on this car, but I'd like to offer $500 less. Reasonable?

    Hi!

Just wanted to let everyone know i got my new Mazda 6 s 5 door hatchback today! Volcanic Red, with black interior! I bought it in Houston, Texas.

    Heres the deal

    Fully loaded
    Luxury Package
    Bose Audio Package
    Side and Curtain Airbags Package
    Automatic Transmission
    MoonRoof
    Sport Package with Spoiler

    MSRP 27,940
    Invoice 25,350

    My price 23,450

(400 under invoice, minus the 1500 rebate)

Plus TTL came out to 25,100 driveout! (No BS fees)

Is that a good deal? Dealers in the houston area wouldnt even discuss invoice they were pretty much trying to say we will sell it a few hundred under sticker! Yea Right!

Let me know. I love the car so far! Thanks for ALLL of Edmunds help. I am trually greatful for all of the people that helped me through everything!

    Thanks!

Last week I bought the same car but WITHOUT the wind deflector but WITH the autodim/compass/homelink mirror and WITH roof rails.

My price was $22,000 this includes the $1500 rebate. This was in the Chicago area (Wilkins Mazda, Villa Park).

So, if your price does not include the rebate, it looks like a good deal to me. If it does include the rebate, then I would try pushing back a bit more.
  • ccwinslowccwinslow Member Posts: 29
    >So, if your price does not include the rebate, it looks like a good deal to me. If it does include the rebate, then I would try pushing back a bit more.<

I think it does include the rebate, but I'll confirm that. If it does, I'll offer $1,000 less and see if it flies. Thanks.

Recap: The car I wanted had the following packages/options:

    5-spd manual
    Bose audio
    Luxury package
    Sport package
    Moonroof & side air bags/curtains
    Moonroof wind deflector

MSRP was about $26,880 excl rebate. The dealer quoted $23,380. I countered with $22,000, we agreed on $22,500. The dealer added on $199 in admin fees. Otherwise the deal was clean until the financing. The APR was fine (4.14%) but the monthly payments The Finance Lady showed me for 48 months, 60 months, etc. were astronomical. She was adding life ins., disability ins., extended warranty, etc. which increased the monthly payment by more than $100. I told her to take all that out. She showed me a new set of monthly payments but left in the extended warranty.

I had run amortization schedules with different loan periods and APRs (home equity line, bank car loan, Capital One) to get a sense of what my monthly payment might be depending on how I financed. When I told her that I ONLY wanted to finance my final price less the down payment, and said that her numbers were nowhere near the 4.89% APR I'd tested, she finally showed me the "real" monthly payment.

I'd never negotiated a new car by myself. This was a learning experience.

PS. I love this car, and it was worth going to the next state to get it!
  • ericzoomericzoom Member Posts: 213
That's usually how they do it.They hide the real price of the car in the monthly payment.I was lucky on my car because I didn't finance it or have a trade in to complicate matters.I paid 24K OTD, no hidden fees. See post 740.

  • williamcwilliamc Member Posts: 11
you cant include the $1500 rebate and say Edmunds invoice or TMV is off, add it back on and see, I was quoted $25000 for a fully loaded 6S 4 door, already $274 below invoice, adding the $1500 rebate I am paying $23500 before TTL, and that means I am paying $1774 off invoice.
  • ericzoomericzoom Member Posts: 213
What matters is the total out the door price, not what was quoted or before financing or any other hidden fees that they can add on.You could end up getting a cheap price on the car initially and then get hit with other fees that could end up raising the final total.
  • grahambgrahamb Member Posts: 47
    Out the door price? Why?

Taxes and fees are different from one place to another. why include those?
  • ericzoomericzoom Member Posts: 213
I understand that.I'm just saying taking into account the different taxes and registration fees in order to figure out what you really paid.
  • okunneyokunney Member Posts: 1
Hey all. Glad to see so many interested in the 6. I'm close to buying but am a bit unsure what is a good price to go for. I'm considering the honda accord but like the 6 a lot more. However, the accords in Los Angeles are advertising at 17k for 4cyl loaded, about 19k-20k 6 cyl loaded. I want a 6s sedan, with sport package and that's it, for 20k if not better. I'm asking for 20-21k out the door. Do you think this is attainable since the new cars are about to come in?

    Any input helps!
