I've been canvassing Toyota dealers in Western Pa. and Western N.Y.S. looking for an '05 SR5 with third-row seats. Plan on buying in the next couple months. At least one dealer has told me third-row seats are "very, very rare." Is this true? I'll admit I don't see a lot of them on web inventories, but "rare?" I'm getting the feeling I may have to pay a premium for that third row, which is really my only required option.
  • tcpoobtcpoob Member Posts: 30
naiad, rare is a slippery word. compared to
camry, sienna, yes. but even w/ 3rd option,
you should not have much trouble getting one.
i don't believe there's need for much premium,
if at all. you may need to be a little flexible
in color choice - the 3rd row option don't
go with some colors - salsa red and stratosphere
blue mica. on the other hand, the 3rd row seats
don't have much room so it's only good for
    occasional use for kids.

Bought my 05 Sport, 2 wd, v-6, chromatic mirror, homelink, leather, 10 speaker stereo, spoiler, toyo gaurd (a joke), all weather mats, double decker cargo, and sunroof - walk out price $28,300... Limbaugh toyota in Birmingham AL - i live in Savannah GA (beat locals by over 5000)

Don't fall for the rare trick, no matter what you're looking for the dealer's going to tell you its rare. To A. If they have you make you pay more for it or B. If they don't have it to prevent you from checking other dealers for it.

To this fact I just bought one with third row seating and I didn't want it.
  • naiadnaiad Member Posts: 4
I had a feeling about that. I only want the third row for occassional kid-use and like the idea that they are supposed to be easily removable.

looks like you have a good price.
    I purchased mine Mar 6 '05. Black
SR5 w/ 3rd row seats V6 2WD(love the 3rd row by the way easy to retract & easy to remove. perfect for my kids)
    $26,740
    less $1000 rebate
    final price:
    $25740
of course add tax & license.
watch out for APR. because they say they cannot give me 3.9% with this price. We almost walk out.
I brought from AAA my own financing but South Coast Toyota beat my percentage so, We got theirs.

    hope this helps

Just went to a dealership today to buy 4runner. Dealership had a 2004 Limited v8 leftover..marked it down $6000 to $34172 as there sales price...How much can I get off this sales price? Can I use the current rebate/finance special? Other than horsepower and torque on the v8, any other major changes?
  • buffalogeorgebuffalogeorge Member Posts: 5
update..this price is already $2000 under invoice. Should I be able to press for more?
  • udsavudsav Member Posts: 11
That might be the $2000.00 rebate they have on the remaining 04's... You should be able to get a better price than that... I would check to see if they have already applied the rebate!
  • buffalogeorgebuffalogeorge Member Posts: 5
thanks..I was able to get the 2004 Limited v8 last night with everything except Navigation for 34000 out the door, they through in the first 5000 mile checkup for free..

Getting ready to pull the trigger on a V6 Ltd Salsa red 4x4 with FE;RL;SF;RF;EJ;CF $35,000 reportedly about 90 less than invoice. In your experience is that a good deal.
    Thanks for the input!

Hey all, can anyone provide recent pricing info on a 2005 V6 Sport 4wd. Looking to buy in the Denver area in 2 weeks. Spoke to the biggest dealer around today - John Elway - and they totally refused to budge below 33250 for a black v6 sport. I mean I know 4runners are all the rave in the Denver area now but i think 33k is ridiculous.
  • 04sport04sport Member Posts: 6
    Well,I bought last june a 2004 sport edition v6,2wd,with all seat in ""leather"",10 speaker radio,care plus pkg,extra tint glass,all mats,for $29,300 at Fl.

    Just got my track yesterday.
2005 V8 sport, sunroof, 10 speakers system, daylight (regular package for New York region) spent almost 5 Hours fo negotiation.
at the end left dealership without deal, they call me on my cell in 2 minutes to come back for my deal.
I got 29500$ for that track + tax, title, registration and documentation fee 199$.
The dealership in NJ, Toyota route 22. I think this is about $2200 less invoice.
Also my wife graduated from college , so we got 400$ rebate from toyota( must be either 2 years from graduation or 6 month prior), also few days ago call to toyota customer service and ask them what they can do for me so I will buy toyota, not nissan, believe it or not they told me to fax them my purchase contract and they will send me a 250$ check. So my total I payed for the car
    29500 - 650 = 28850$.
Have a question. They charge me 3 years of registration fee, told me it is low for New York to pay. Can anyone tell me it is true or not.
I requested to write it down "DMV 3 years registration" on the line where it is says "title, registration fee"
    Thanks

Thanks to this board, I feel I got a great deal on a 4 Runner on Saturday.

By the time it was over (this process took a couple of weeks), I was exhausted.

Hopefully I didn't lose all of the savings in the finance dept. Here's what happened in the finance dept: 4.64% interest for 63 months (I will pay this off early). I was hoping for a lower rate, but this was almost 1 point lower than I got from my credit union, or on Lending Tree. I also signed up for the extended warranty of 72 months/90,000 for $1800.

My question is - was I only supposed to pay $1000 for a warranty? Is there a fixed price on 4Runner extended warranties, or is each dealer just allowed to charge as much as they want? I didn't want to get the warranty, but they scared me (almost made it sound like the car would fall apart without it)

    Thanks!
  • theomdtheomd Member Posts: 11
Toyota has special financing available 3.9% for 60 months on 4Runner. Why was this not offered to you???
  • tcpoobtcpoob Member Posts: 30
perhaps the orig poster took the cash rebate
special - which in this case can't be combined
    with low Apr.
  • lorryfanlorryfan Member Posts: 76
    lynnette,

I hate to break it to you, but you probably lost all the savings at the finance office. You should only be paying about a third of what you paid the dealer for extended warranty for a small deductible. Your insurance company could even have saved you some money if you had bought your warranty through them.

Check out the number# source for extended warranties at:

    http://www.1sourceautowarranty.com

At most you should have paid about $1000 (that's with $0 deductible). Unfortunately each dealer can charge as much as they want.

    Good luck next time...

Lynnette is talking about a manufacturer-backed warranty, and you're talking about a third-party warranty. There's a big difference. To talk about the difference in coverage & pricing, please visit our Extended Warranties discussion.

    Oh bummer -

I did research some of the internet warranties but I was afraid since I had seen so many negative posts about various companies.

I do think I got a good deal on the car though, so I feel good about that.

    Here's what I got:

    2005 silver SR5 V6 (not 4wd)
with sunroof, spoiler, 17" wheels, all mats and cargo nets, leather steering wheel/knob, daytime running lights, roofrack/crossbars, wheel locks, 100K mi. warranty on tires, window tint, and window etching. The extras I also got were free oil changes for life, and 5 tanks of gas.

They also paid at least $600-$700 too much for my car (they gave me a quote on the car before they even saw it) and pulled the stereo/CD changer from my trade-in and they are letting me keep it.

I paid $26,200. I think it's a good deal, and is under the edmunds price.

Here are a couple of things I have learned:

Definitely play the dealers off of each other. They are serious rivals with each other, and can't stand being underbid. Be careful that you give Dealer B the actual quote you got from Dealer A- they might call that dealer and confirm the quote.

I was able to do most of my pricing over the phone. It worked out great. By the time I walked into a dealership, I knew exactly what I wanted to pay. I walked out when I couldn't get them to lower the price another $50. They called the next day, and told me they would give me $50 cash out of their pocket, but they couldn't lower the price. I ended up buying from another dealer that was $200 less than everyone else.

For some reason, the dealers will throw in things like free gas and free oil changes, but won't keep lowering the price. I knew I was going to buy at $26,200, but got them to throw in the gas and oil changes. They would not lower the price off of $26,200 by even $20 - so why would they give me free tanks of gas? I don't know, but that's "cash" to me.

The free oil changes are also "cash" in my opinion. If I did my own oil changes, I wouldn't really care. Since I don't, it's money I've saved.

I also got promised more free gas leaving the dealership, when I mentioned the survey that I would be completing based on my experience.

Thanks to everyone that has posted on this board, I feel like I did OK with the deal.

    Lynnette

I am considering getting an '05 4Runner, Sport, 4WD, leather, sunroof. Anyone know of the best dealer in Dayton, Columbus, Cincinnati area who will give a good price?
  • rossmonrossmon Member Posts: 3
is it too soon to buy a 4runner?
the one drawback listed by consumers is mediocre gas mileage. I'm wondering if the high gas prices expected by spring/summer $3/gal+ will cause toyota to offer bigger rebates etc.
I understand there are large discounts to be had on the 2004's but 4me the upgrade in hp and twist on the 05 v-8 is significant and worth getting. plus the resale should be much better. i have a boat to tow and am tired of straining 6 cylinder motors. when i had a 99v8 truck it was like owning a sports car meant for towing boats! I also towed with a v6 mazda mpv van, currently with a straight 6 jeep cherokee and never again!
plus the new v-8 and fly by wire throttle are supposed to really go fast when not towing.

I'm looking at getting a sport with moon roof, extra air bags, spoiler, for roughly 30k after rebate but w/o tax and license. whaddaya think?
Question for the roving edmonds guy. how come the extra air bags aren't listed as an option in your research?
One last thing, can you guess my age!!!

I too have heard about good deals on left-over 2004s. And, I understand that Toyota has given dealers some cash to facilitate unloading 04 stock. Does anybody have a handle on just how much someone can expect. For instance, are they going under invoice? If so, how much? I'm going to look at a couple 04 SR5s this weekend. I really was thinking about an 05 because of the transmission change, but if I could save big-time, I might consider an 04.

where did you get that information? please tell!

I am also interested in buying a leftover 04 limited with the V8 engine. Any info on additional rebates, cash back, etc would be helpful with the dreaded negotiation process. Also, has anyone purchased from Darcars.com and then shipped the vehicle out of state. If so, how does taht process work. Thanks.

Want to purchase '05 4Runner 4wd Limited V8 in Boston. MSRP about $41,000. Can anyone help me find the right dealer & give me guidance on what the pricing should be.
  • knitknit Member Posts: 1
try the fleet manager not a saleman like at Stevenson Toyota in Golden get on line at carsdirect.com they where willing to sell me one at that price. 2005 4runner limited v8 at around 37,500
  • naiadnaiad Member Posts: 4
Yep. I'm replying to my own message: Tadaaaah!. Took the plunge yesterday on a leftover '04.
As follows: SR5 4WD, Pac Blue, 3rd Row, running lgts, x-bar on roof, some other little stuff, about $1500 less than invoice. Took me about an hour. Found a no-BS dealer outside of Buffalo. I'm happy with the deal, ecstatic about the truck. Even though I'd been shopping for quite a while, this was the first one I actually drove. Impressive. Also sprung for the Extended Warranty from Toyota. Plan to keep this thing for at least 7 years. As far as I'm concerned, the warranty is money well-spent. Left-overs can still be found. I figure I saved at least $3K, more than enough to make me forget about that 5th gear in the trans.

an '05 SR5 V-8 4X4 with power moon roof, double-decker cargo system, stainless steel exhaust tip, carpeted floor/cargo mats, auto day/night mirror, 115V power outlet, roof rails w/ crossbars, rear spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise and audio controls and 17" aluminum wheels. Sticker was $34,355, invoice was $30,918. I paid $82 over invoice plus $200 doc fee ($31,200 total). I opted for the 0.9% financing for 36 months over the $1,000 rebate. This vehicle replaces an '03 Ford Explorer NBX which was a POS from day one. Took a test drive and really liked the smoothness and quickness of the V-8 coupled with the 5-speed auto tranny. Take delivery sometime this week. CAN'T WAIT!

Hi all, I am interested in purchasing an SR5 with the 10 speaker stereo. My questions are, has anyone been successfully in finding an SR5 with the upgraded stereo system? How much did it cost? Per a dealer, SR5's only ship with the base stereo. If you do have an SR5 with the base stereo, please comment its quality. Thanks a lot.
  • tcpoobtcpoob Member Posts: 30
i am by no means a sound system fan and i think the stock speakers on the 05 SR5 are very mediocre.

I'm looking for an '05 sport V8 4wd. My local Toyota delaer (Eatontown, NJ) list additional option charges I haven't see anywhere else. RL (running lights, $45), WL (wheel locks, 59), CF (floor mats, $186, and a real doozie xx (Door edge guards and pin stripe, $450). Has anyone else seen these options and gotten them taken off the invoice? I don't mind paying for running lights and wheel locks (are these standard) but $636 for mats, a pin stripe and a door guard is a joke.
  • lorryfanlorryfan Member Posts: 76
    brady24,

I totally concur with you...it's a rip-off to pay $636 for mats, pin stripe and a door guard. These are listed under the 'Accessories Section' in the 05 4Runner brochure as an aftermarket...see if they will remove those charges....

    Good Luck!

I got a dealer offer of 31,400 for a 04 V6 limited with an MSRP of 38,500. Can I do any better?
  • wspencerwspencer Member Posts: 8
I got one about a month ago that was 38,500 and paid 31800 so don't think its too bad. May be able to do alittle better when I bought mine there was a 2000 rebate now its up to 2500 so not sure if they will go much lower than you got. When I got mine it was the last 2004 limited on the lot. Good Luck!! Great car, thought about the 5 speed in the 2005 but for the money I saved I'm happy with the one I got
  • rjordanrjordan Member Posts: 30
If that vehicle is on the lot with very low mileage, then I would grab it for that price. I purchased mine in October, fully loaded but without the navigation system for 34,800. But watch out for promises of delivery for a non stocked vehicle, because a dealer does not have to honor a rebate if the vehicle is not on his lot. Get it in writing on the sales proposal before you commit yourself. But if the vehicle has excessive mileage in the thousands then this suggest it was used as a personal car plus demonstrator. This is not a bad thing but you should be able to purchase the new vehicle at the used car price that the dealer would normally get. So check this site at the used vehicle section and compare all options and make an offer based on the used vehicle price. Their offer of $31,400 appears to be close to the used vehicle selling price. Dealers can use their vehicles for personnel use and by law can still sell them as new, but that should not stop you from making an used car offer. If the vehicle is on the lot, go over it again and hit the mileage reset buttons to get the actual mileage on the vehicle. Overall, it looks like a good deal. Check out what I told you, there still may be room for more negotiation.

I read some posts saying it is possible to find a Sport w/ Leather interior in some 'very southern states'? I am wondering does anyone konw any information about this? or have the experience of actually buying a 05 sport w/leather in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, paticularly in Los Angeles Area? If you have the dealer's name, it will be great!

I guess most of us agree that the limited is a 'rip off' in that it charges $5000 more than the sport but actually only offer $2000 value, WITHOUT wood trim available!

My wife insists on having the leather interior, and I like the V6 4x4 Sport. What a dilemma!!

I really appreciate that anyone provide some info on this. I am planning to buy one during May or June (wondering if 06 model will come out?)
  • wspencerwspencer Member Posts: 8
I live in San Antonio and I have seen the Sport model with leather seats. Not sure about the 4X4 but would think if they do it for the 2 wheel it should not be a problem getting it on the 4 wheel drive model

I just purchased my 2005 4Runner V6 4x4 Sport Edition with heated leather seats about a month ago here in Oklahoma City, at Bob Howard Toyota. I paid the Invoice Price of the Leather Upgrade which was $1005, and I think it was another $220 or so to make the seats heated. You shouldn't pay more than that. Not sure on the '06 model.... I have a feeling that it won't be out by May or June since the '05 is somewhat new. There was no hastle getting the vehicle made exactly how I wanted it... they were able to get an inbound vehicle to me within 10 days from Gulf States Toyota with the exact options that I asked for. Hope this helps...

I just purchased a 2004 V6 limited 4x4 with the sunroof, mats, wheellocks, wireless headphones MSRP of 38,600. It had 90 miles on it. NJ dealer by Princeton, I got them down to 30,500+TTL.

    Thanks wspencer and kevink32,

    This forum is so helpful!

I will then just go ahead and ask them to get one for me anyway.

Hi everyone. I bought a 2004 Lexus Gx470 last year but sold it due to my job changing and didn't want the high payments. Currently, I am looking at two 20034runner LTD's. The first one has 47,500 miles, but has Nav and Multi CD. This one is in VIN number range regarding TSB for the sulphur smell, so I could have the cat's changed if I smelled the obnoxious gas (like the Lexus loaners)It also has a bug deflector that I'm not sure I like. I cannot find an extended warranty that covers the NAV and multi cd options on this vehicle. The other LTD is same color but with only 34,500 miles. It doesn't have the NAV or multi cd (both were standard in the GX 470)and it is out of VIN range for cat replacement. Since this one is still under factory warranty I can get a 7yr 100K diamond warranty from Toyota for about $2100. Tomorrow is the last day of the month and I want to make the best deal possible. Both dealers have agreed to an OTD price of $27,000, not including the extended warranty.Any input would be greatly appreciated. I like the lower mileage, but I do miss the NAV and multi cd. Thanks for your advice/opinions. Kel

I believe you can add leather/heated seats to any sport or SR5 model. My local NJ dealer quoted me $1695 for the add on leather/HS package.
