I am planning on ordering an Ultramarine in Sept. and asked this very question. I was specifically told "All colors will be available for Sept. production." by the dealer I am working with. (Murray Motors, Denver, CO) See post 3407 for all colors

Hello? I just posted my rear off giving you every conceivable detail on the xi. Look above!!!!
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
Easy there ... gonzo was asking about release date and when orders could be placed. Yes, you gave a lot of good scoop on the xi, but your post didn't cover those things so there's no reason gonzo shouldn't have asked about them. :)

The US Product Information Brochure is very clear that Ultramarine Blue has been cancelled and is being replaced with Mystic Blue. I'm not sure, however, if Ultramarine Blue is being cancelled everywhere or just here in the US. :confuse:

    bimmer4me3:

Thanks for the info that ultramarine blue has been cancelled Next question: what's mystic blue? A lighter blue? Was it available on the previous 3 or the 5 or 7? Thanks.
  • bimmer4me3bimmer4me3 Member Posts: 19
I don't know if Mystic Blue is lighter or darker than Ultramarine Blue because I've never seen Ultramarine Blue. Mystic Blue is available on the 2005 3er and any 5er (not sure about the 7er) so you can go to your local dealer to see what it looks like in the metal. Mystic Blue is my choice. I just have to wait until October! :(

My 645Ci Convertible press loaner is Mystic Blue; everyone-and I do mean EVERYONE-comments on the color, and the consensus is that the Mystic Blue is a gorgeous color.

Anyone know what type of changes there will be on the 2006 330Ci vs the 2005 330Ci?
    Exterior? Interior? Options?

    Thanks

BMW has the best color selection I have ever seen. I have seen a very light blue that is just stunning. Maybe that is the ultramarine blue.
  • kasperghostkasperghost Member Posts: 72
Then BMW is sending out conflicting info. I have a 6 inch by 12 inch pamphlet that lists A42 Ultramarine Blue as delayed availability (I was told this means Sept.). I picked up the pamphlet in early June. I am going to the dealership today and will bring it with me and ask...

    Hello all,

I got my car 2 days ago, and put 355 miles already on it. Its says I can put another 55 miles on it before i run dry. Ill push it close to that limit.

but looks like im gettin the expected 30+ miles to a gallon that I was expecting.

in theory we should be aboe to get 461 miles per tank. Most of the time when im friving, its says im gettin 40 mpg. Im not sure if its of or what. But I got 265 miles to half a tank of gas when I went for a long drive.

Man this car has it all, the only thing im worried about is parking it. Ill give you the mpg after I get a tank of gas. I still have to connect the phone, and set the radio stations.

surprisingly my car cam with the seat back pockets. How can I remove them lol.

Oh yah, how many of you guys can find the oil dip stick? If you can tell me (lol)

ok guys sorry about my behavior before

FYI, the dealer told me that there was no such thing on 2006 model any more.
  • rs1157rs1157 Member Posts: 41
I know you cant one, isnt that funny. The oil dip stick is to make sure, a fool proof system, but BMW got rid of it, Can be the one mistake BMW made, There is no reason not to have one.

whats the spare key holder in the glove box for? what do you put in there?
  • odessitodessit Member Posts: 140
The spare key holder is in case your regular key breaks and you cannot start the car with it. In this case you take the spare key holder with the plastic key in it and insert it instead of your regular key (or fob as they call it if I am not mistaken). And it should take care of starting the car. So, never leave the plastic key inside that key holder in your car. Someone can simply break the window, take the key holder from the glove box and if the plastic key is inside- the car can be started.

    1. I live in New York, and use BMW of Manhattan, so I can not help you dealership wise, but I would choose the one closer to your residence, just for convenience.

    2. The best time to buy is winter. I buy my BMW's in late January, and always get good/fair deals. No, BMW does not do independence day sales events. The do offer lease specials on the 325i including: a 36 month lease ($399 per month)

    Vehicles registered outside of NY-
    $399 First month’s payment
    $2,500 Down payment
    $400 Security Deposit
    $3,299 Cash due at signing

    3. Not at all! I love it, all of my BMW's have it. Steptronic is a regular automatic trasmission which gives you the option to use 3 different functions. A) Adaptive, where the car measures your acceleration breaking, and driving style and shifts accordingly. B) Sport, the car's tendancy is to shift sportier in automatic mode and C) Clutchless manual, where the driver shifts manually (minus the clutch) via the gear shifter. This is a flawless transmission. I have not heard any complaints about it.

    4. None of my BMW's (2005 530i & 2004 330Ci convertable) have sport package, I feel they are sporty enough and i love the 50/50 balance of sport and luxury the cars provide. Thsport package of the 325i includes: * Double Spoke (Styling# 161) light-alloy wheels, 17 x 8.0 front, 17x 8.5 rear; 225/45R-17 front, 255/40R-17 rear performance* run-flat* performance tires*
    * 8-way manual adjustable front sport seats with adjustable back bolsters, and 2-way headrests and thigh support
    * 8-way power front sport seats with adjustable back bolsters, 2-way manual headrests and thigh support; driver memory for exterior mirror and seat positions*
    * 3-spoke leather-wrapped multi-function sport steering wheel with audio and accessory phone* controls
    * Sport suspension calibration
In my opinion it is purely up to the personal preference of the driver.

    4. The maintenance plan is golden. I do not pay a cent on anything accept tires and body work. Headlights, wipers, rotors, break pads, breaklights, oil changes, wiper fluid, (in the rare event) mechanical defect are all free, and you get a loaner BMW to drive for the day. This is not gimmick. I do lease my cars 36 months 12,000 miles per year, so I do not know about the cost of maintenance after the warrenty has expired, but during that time I pay practically nothing.

    5. There is no other company so dedicated to the product they produce. Owning a BMW is truly an experience.

You were right :D Can I  now...? No Ultramarine Blue for '06
  • bimmer4me3bimmer4me3 Member Posts: 19
Your salesman may not know the answer...even if he says he does. Make sure you see the Production Infomation brochure. Mystic Blue is listed, with all the available colors, on page 83. Your salesman should know about the Product Information brochure....even if he says he doesn't. ;)

He didn't show the Product Information brochure, but the update listing on his computer that showed a running list of updates on product info availability. It looked like a service update bulletin, listing the dates of updates and so on. It said that it was discontinued for the '06 3 and was replaced with the Mystic Blue. I be asking other dealers about color availability though since I didn't get the deal I wanted (2.5% below MSRP when I wanted 4.5-5% below). Thanks for the help! :shades:
  • kasperghostkasperghost Member Posts: 72
We tried to look at it on an X3, but with all the black plastic trim, it was hard to get a feel for it. It will come down to Mystic, Monaco, or Blueguy's favorite "silver" ;) . I am very lucky to even be making these kinds of decsions.
  • bimmer4me3bimmer4me3 Member Posts: 19
LOL....funny, my ex-wife told me the same thing today. :)
  • bimmer4me3bimmer4me3 Member Posts: 19
    IMO...
    Mystic Blue = :shades:
Monaco Blue = a little too dull looking
Titanium Silver = looks great, but way way too common for me

BTW, I'm getting grey interior with burl walnut trim. The beige was too "bright yellow" for my taste and the black is just too darn hot in the summer. The terra looks sweet, but I thought it didn't feel right with Mystic Blue. Good luck with these agonizing decisions. ;)
  • kasperghostkasperghost Member Posts: 72
Same order for me too- I am not a fan of grey, but that is the best grey interior I have ever seen. We took a long test drive in grey w/ aluminum trim which looked off somehow. I am thinking that the dark blue Monaco makes the 'flow' from inside to outside better because of the black dash. I like the Mystic as a general exterior color because it will hide scratches better over the long haul. I am going with the tan leatherette. (I don't know what sounds more cheesy: saying "leatherette" or "vinyl." We are going to have a child pretty soon and I was told that vinyl is more kid proof.

Why are bmw oil change at 15K miles? doesn't that seem to long to drive a year on the same engine oil? my families toyos and hondas get's a fresh injection of 5w30 engine oil every 3K or 3 months. Why the big difference? thanx

  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
10-15-20k...it's all dependent on how you drive. My OBC tells me to get an oil change usually after 13k miles. Shrug.

not a big deal. they and mercedes have the same setup. obviously they trust synthetics more tha most people/manufacturers do.

What area of the country are you in that you believe requires you to have AWD on a BMW? Get a RWD model with a stick and you won't regret it!

In addition to BMW's bumper to bumper 4 year/50,000 mile warranty, BMWs also include full factory scheduled maintenance during the same time period. So unless you do some sort of body damage (and choose to fix your car at the dealer which I don't advise), all you pay for is gas, tires, and insurance.

As far as BMW reliability goes, you'll always hear a story about someone's aunt's, roomate from college's, dogwalker's, fiancee's, boss's, wife's, kinderagrten teacher who had a BMW that was a nightmare. They're pretty damn good cars. Most on the board will attest to this. I believe bluieguydotcom has had a few problems with his car that have all been covered under warranty. Personally, my Dad has an '04 X5 3.0iA that he's had for a little over a year and 4 months with over 30K miles on it. He's had to bring it back to the dealer a total of 1 time for an oil change at 17K miles. My Mom drives an '05 530iA with a little over 6K miles on it and has been flawless.

Many are skeptical about some euro manufacturer oil change interval. Persoanlly, I believe the BMW engineers know more than I do. If it makes you feel better, you can have the oil changed and services done between intervals, it just may cost you a couple of bucks. If you're going to keep the car long, I think div2 has the end all maintenance list of what to do and when to do it.

I drive an '01 Honda Prelude Type SH. My Prelude's H22A engine was developed in the early 90's. I fill it with synthetic about every 4K miles. Newer engines are developed better to run longer between oil changes.

    "Holy kidney supports Batman!"

Do MANUAL Sport package seats have adjustable side bolsters and an updown on the front and back of the butt part of the seat (Toe and Camber?)(if you can understand that highly scientific description)?

I understand that they have leg front/back adjustment, back adjustment, and a vertical height adjustment.

This is a good point. Is Ultramarine Blue out of the question completely, or could it be ordered on an ED car, just as the lemon leather (unavailable in the US) can be. If so, I might just get my Ultramarine Blue/Terra 330xi afterall.

    Anybody know?

    thanks,

There isn't any difference in colour or options, between normal & ED. Lemon leather is not available on ED. I was dead set on Monoco Blue until I saw a Sparkling Graphite in February. Try to get a face-to-face look at the paint, even if it's a sample; before you make up your mind.

i have an E90 325 in sparkling graphite-its an incredible color, and even more so after you put that first coat of good wax on it-in my case i used Collanite Fleet Wax and it looks like plate glass-

highly recommended if you are on the fence on color choices-

I like my 2004 5245, however; I did not order it with sports package and no HID lights..( big mistake ...!) Now just two weeks ago I drove a 325 with the sports package and the I -Drive....and, yes I like the I-Drive!

Here is the question; I purchased my 525 for $42,000.in 12/04 and added the Nav for $1,600. ( special deal for a few months of early production). They will only give me $35,000. as a trade and the 2006 will be $41,500. includes I-Drive, active steering, premium, and of course sports package. My wife thinks I am nuts, we have a three year old and the 525 has more room than the 325. But the 3 is more FUN to drive than the 525...

Should I pull the trigger and have more fun or do the financial and responsible thing and keep the 525.?????
  • nyccarguynyccarguy Member Posts: 17,548
Philly to Princeton? Go with a RWD 325i w/ Sports Package and you'll be happy. For the winter months, get a second set of wheels & dedicated snow tires. Tires are what give you traction, not an AWD system. xi BMWs (AWD) cost more ($1800). You can get a good set of wheels and snow tires from tire rack for about a thousand (give or take). The AWD car will be heavier which will affect your braking ability and handling in emergency situations during those few snowy days we have in the Norhteast. The AWD BMW will get worse gas mileage and will accelerate slower (sorry erikpl, I know you love your xi). Between BMW's Stability Control which incorporates traction control, the snow tires, BMW's balance, ABS... you should do fine.

I live in a northern suburb of NYC (Westchester County). I run a set of dedicated snow tires and wheels on my FWD Prelude. I've never had a single problem getting stuck. I used to live in the city and would wake up with my car plowed in up to it's doors and never had a problem.

I read a couple of messages mentioning the sports package, but how much of a difference does it make? I was at the dealer today, and the salesman told me that he didn't think it made much of a difference, but then again, I impressed upon him that I didn't want a lot of options. The car's nearly out of my price range (maybe completely out :-) ), but I want to entertain the thought of getting one anyways. :-)

The more I think about it, it could also be that they just don't have one to offer with that option. I really enjoy the tight handling of my Prelude, so I tend to lean towards the sportier side generally. I will go back to get a test drive soon, but I assume that I'll only get a chance to test the normal version. I expect that it'll be fast/quick enough even with the 325i version, but the 330i just isn't an option, so it's just as well. Although, I'd like to get a manual tranny, which saves a lot right there! :D

I like what the other poster said just above... should I do the fun thing, or do the financially irresponsible thing? :surprise: :confuse:

(I already test-drove a Mini Cooper S -- fun stuff! Completely different of course, but fun in its own way. Considering the price difference, I may just fall back to that....)

I thought the logic7 audio in my 06' 330 is good but my friends are not impressed. He said i need to replace the stock speakers which are never top quality. he replaced his bose speakers with Poke for his infinity g35.

Then i compare a CD (Sarah Brightman). It definitely sounds clearer and crisper on his speakers. That makes me kind of uneasy and want to get new speakers.

What u guys think of the audio? do u have to go to the dealer to upgrade the speakers?
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
I feel a difference between the non sport and sport models. If you were one to push your prelude, you'll feel it too. drive them both...and never trust a salesperson. ;) he just wants your money.
  • nbarconbarco Member Posts: 14
    1. I test drove the new 325i and ordered the 330i even though I could not test drive it. I am having second thoughts and considering trading up to a 530i w/o sports package.

    2. Is there a noticeable difference between Logic 7 and standard?

    3. 330i, steptronic, premium pkg, sport pkg, cold weather pkg, active steering, navigation, pdc, metallic, cd changer, military sales program = $43,090 non-taxable

    4. 530i, steptronic, premium, cold weather, navigation, premium sound, metallic = $48,140

I was trying to stay away from the sport package on the 530i because then I do not have to get the run flats. Besides I would take the 5 for more luxury and less sportiness. I am under the impression no sport pkg=more plush ride...correct?

I am currently in Germany and will be going back to the states within the next year. Is there any benefit to the sports calibration and roll control, if I cannot exceed 70mph? I could understand here in Germany where I can drive 155. But both cars will do 150.

Is the 525 your sole vehicle?

    You have one child?

The 525 is an excellent car that was purchased for that reason; I’d keep it.

If you get the 3, next year a new sport version will be out, or the 3.5L will be out and you’ll want that one.

I think you can “spruce up” your 525 at a local Dinan shop for the price you’ll pay for taxes on a new 3.

Also…your wife may have intentions of getting a mini van and loading it with babies :)
  • paulepaule Member Posts: 382
I would not go to the dealer to upgrade the speakers. Find a reputable audio store and get them there if you don't want to do it yourself.

The speakers your friend recommended are Polk speakers and they are very good. Polk is a top name in speakers and are no doubt better than the Bose speakers that come factory.
  • paulepaule Member Posts: 382
I'm not buying the "Tires are what give you traction, not an AWD system".
An AWD vehicle with the same tires will definitely have more traction/acceleration in snow than a RWD.

I drive a Prelude with snow tires and it definitely does not have the same traction as my wife's '05 xi with winter tires (different winter tires between the two cars).

I might add that the Prelude ('95 VTEC) is faster off the line in dry conditions than the xi.

That’s exactly what gives you traction. I think you’re talking about what gives you better acceleration in wet/snowy conditions.

If you try stopping in an AWD versus a RWD you’ll find that it is indeed the tires.

    nbarco-

The Karmon Kardon stereo in general does not sound great. So, I would not expect too much of a difference between the stock and the Logic-7. The Logic-7 is an upgrade from what was available as HarmonKardon in all 330i models. It's best you take a good CD and play it at the dealership to see if spending an extra $1200 justifies the cost.

The sport Package does have a slightly different suspensioin so yes, the ride is a bit more stiff. I got my 2005 330i last month with sport package and love it. My friend got a ZHP which has a tighter suspension and that was a bit too stiff for me. You do get a smoother ride without the sport package. However the sport package enhaces the looks of the car overall. Also, due to wider tires on the SP, it grips the roads better for those tight curves you might plan to take.
