After searching these forums and the net I am still unsure of whether to buy the iPod integration option. I went for a test drive but the dealer did not appear to be know too much either and suggested that I could just use the auxilary input. I do not plan to get the idrive and I have a 3rd generation iPod. Do the existing radio/steering wheel controls merit the the integration cost ($400)? I presume the "ram din" connector http://www.sik.com/ram_din.php may suffice?
I have a 2006 330i, and I have been using the auxiliary input for my mini-ipod. It works OK. I think the primary advantage of integration is that you can control your ipod through the car's audio system controls rather than through the ipod itself. I'd go for integration if you plan on listening to your ipod a lot in the car. I rarely use my ipod in the car. I mostly listen to sat radio instead.
Could you share your experience when you returned a lease car and did not buy anything from the dealer? How much did you pay to return the car? My lease will end up in Jun. BMW Finance sent me a scarily article showing how much I may need to pay if I do not buy/lease the car or another BMW. The mail even said, I have to pay for a CD changer which has been never installed to the lease. Sales and Leasing Manager at my local dealer told me I may need to pay at least $1,000 for tires if I do not start a new lease. I will buy a Toyota minivan (it was a big decision after BMW.). I would like to know how much I really have to pay to return the car. The dealer does not tell exactly during pre-inspection. My BMW 325i 06 is at very good condition. Thaks,
The lease end materials are available online. You should check your tread-depth. If you are below their marker, then get on tirerack.com or get to costco/sams club and replace those tires! RFTs aren't cheap but you can find 16s/17s cheaper online.
Otherwise, 1 month before returning your car, schedule an appointment with ANY BMW dealer you like and let them know you want an estimate on possible problem areas for lease return. They will check your car and give you a list of possible areas that may cost you money (always cosmetic). They will do this if it's a decent dealership.
It sounds like your current dealer is a jerk. Check elsewhere. You can return your car to any dealership and really that could be the difference.
Thank you for your reply, Blueguydotcom. I looked at information the BMW provided and web site of BMW finance. I would like to know the real experience. Have you returned your lease car?
I will return my leased 330xi in December...I just bought new tires now for $780, Continental RFT, 225/45 R17. I will get about 9,000 miles on these babies before I rturn it in. The car feels like new again! The old tires had 23K on them but would not make it to December by my estimate.
I have some nicks and one slight ding which I need to get an estimate for.
Steering wheel lockup- i have an 06 E90 325 and have experienced this 'steering wheel lockup' semi frequently, no pattern detected as yet.
put in key, hit start but steering wheel (yellow) indicator lights up and wheel locks, car wont start.
have to pull key out, wait a second, start process again, until car will start.
took car in for annual service today, dealer 'reprogrammed' computer--we'll see if that works-
if not, they indicated a replacement of steering component?
other than that, and of course, RFT, car is wonderful-
leaning towards GFT Michelin Pilot PS2 at Costco (price includes everything mit tax), seems quite competitive with Tire Rack prices-
Shipo, any advice on GFT (sport pkg) brand/model? I enjoy the grip ive had with the Bridgestone 050 RFT (140 treadwear), but im no autocrosser-just very normal driving style, no racing-
Moving the wheel from side to side, be it slightly or firmly, does not do the trick. This is a problem, not usual things. If I recall correctly, mega re-starts and patience were the only things that worked.
I read in a BMW enthusiast magazine that the automatic transmission in the 3-Series has an annoying characteristic, but it gave no details about what exactly is annoying. Sorry if this topic was covered in earlier posts, but since it would take a long time to find it, can someone please fill me in on what the problem is?
The article went on to say that if you find it difficult to live with the run-flat tires and the automatic transmission quirk, maybe you'd just be happier with a Corolla. That's strange advice, but it piqued my interest to find out just what it is about the transmission that's objectionable. I'd appreciate it if someone could fill me in on this.

Better yet, make it a Prius!
Seriously, I've had more than my fair share of problems with my 2006 330i, but I have no idea what automatic transmission quirk you are talking about.
Is anyone familiar with the clockspring in the steering wheel of the 325i? Does it control the airbag operation? The rest of this post is just a description and heads up on the lousy service offered by Roseville BMW in Roseville, CA. Want to read a dealership horror story? Read on. Bought a used 325i at Roseville BMW. It had only 12,000 miles on it. Had many problems ever since. First, the dealership upgraded the prom on a recall. They must have reset the maintenance interval or something when they did it because they then ignored the first oil change due at around 15,000 miles. Actually didn't do the oil change until about 25,000 miles and only because I pushed them for the oil change. When I complained the service writer gave me a tech bulletin that showed the 325i could go 25,000 miles between oil changes. Problem was the bulletin was in kilometers not miles. 25,000k is about 15,000mi. Complained to the service manager and he responded "So?" I should've taken the hint at that point and switched service shops. Then the speedometer was off by 10%, if I was travelling at 70 the speedometer showed 77mph. I mentioned this to the service writer and he said bmw specs the speedo at 10%. I had to request acton several times before they repaired it at 30,000 miles. Speedometer is still off by 3mph. Verified with radar. Had a problem with the trim on the passenger door show up at about 47,000 miles. BMW techs at Roseville BMW changed the door panel and caused another trim problem with the window switch not meeting the trim. They replaced the door panel another three times, before finally figuring out 10,000 miles and four 70 mile roundtrips later the switch was broken. Probably broken the first time they replaced the panel. I also had an ongoing problem from about 20,000 miles where the steering wheel diag would show the wheel locked and the car would refuse to start. This was with the wheel perfectly straight. Service writer ignored repeated complaints about this because he never saw it happen as it was an intermittent problem. He also never bothered to write up the problem. Had to fight with Roseville BMW to fix this problem. they wanted to charge me $1100 for something that should have been fixed the first time I reported it while the car was still under warranty. They finally agreed to fix it under extended warranty for $100. They had to remove the steering wheel to make the repair in the steering column. A week after they removed and reinstalled the steering wheel the clockspring inside the steering wheel broke. They say it's not their problem, they didn't cause it. The clockspring is a wear item and they will repair it for $1300. I will never buy another car from Roseville BMW. Any future repair work I get done will be done somewhere else. Oh yeah, I went to BMW North America with my complaints and they sided with the dealer. Said the dealer had already done me favors by making repairs out of warranty. Yeah? like what? making me travel 70 miles four times and waste 40 hours of my time to repair a switch that should have been fixed in one hour? Another thing they were good at was telling me the "parts are in, bring in the car for repair." 35 miles and four hours later the story would change. "Uh sorry, we only got some of the parts, you'll have to come back again so we can complete the repair."
On my 2006 330xi, I have an aux jack under the arm rest. Can I use that to plug in my iphone 3G? Wht kind of a cable/adapter would I need for that? Somthing I can get at Radio shack perhaps?
yes you can said bob the builder. try a 3mm jack cable, i found one at best buy for less than $10-only downside is that you will only have controls through the ipod for selecting music-
I have the aux option in my audio display in additon to tuner, sirius and cd. So it may be pre-wired (?). The slick sales guy told me it was ipod-ready..I took it as plug and play..
Anybody have this? I got this with my 2006 3 series. I thought I was getting the built-in nav system with the bigger screen. End up getting this tiny piece of crap, which is listed at 600-650 plus 150 for install.
It has bluetooth, can display traffic with transmitter connectivity, etc. I dont need all that. I already have bluetooh in my car. I could get a nav system for 100 bucks.
Any thoughts if I should keep it, or talk to the dealer to take it back and give me 600 bucks worth other accessories??
Purchased a 2006xit wagon with premium package, sport package and cold weather package with 34,000 mi for $27,500.
This is a CPO 0.9% financing for 60 months. BMW to make first two months payments.
We still have not taken delivery due to the fact one of the heated washers for the headlights was damaged during detailing and the part needed to be ordered...sounds a bit fishy.
There are so few of these vehicles out there..just trying to make sure we didn't get ripped off too bad before taking delivery. If the dealer keeps giving us the runaround can we say no to the deal? No money down and no trade involved. Thanks for any input
I had the ski and snowboard rack installed on my 2006 330xi. Now that its warm outside, I want to uninstall it and maybe install a bike rack. I cant find the instructions to uninstall the ski and snowboard rack.
I am trying to buy a 2006 325xi BMW CPO. The car has 32K miles on it. The dealer is asking $ 27800 for it. The car has following :
1) Premium Package. 2) AWD automatic 3) BMW assist. 4) Rear park distance control. 5) Nav. system. 6) Heated seats 7) 6 disc CD changer. And standard options.
Does the price look good on this car and what should I try to get it for ?
Also, BMW website still advertises 0.9 % APR for 06 CPO's but the dealer is trying to give me 3.9 % APR . - Is he trying to rig it ?
This will be my first BMW. All help is appriciated.
I have a 2006 325Xi. It is a CPO and I will be going out of free maintenance this month. The dealer is offering me an extended maintenance program for around $ 2200 (6 yrs/ 100 K).
My 330xi Auto had this steering lock up issue, reprogram it did not help and dealer replaced the steering column which fixed it. It happened around 35k mile at the time and now I have 83k miles. I wonder what the cost is or if BMW would fix it for free when your low mile driven car's warranty expires this year.
I scratched the rear view mirror against a pole as I backed into a parkign spot. The edge of the casing has two deep scratches, where the paint is gone and I can see the black under color.
1. Is this casing made of plastic, and so I dont have to worry about rust in case I leave it be for now?
2. The shop wants $125 to remove and repaint the whole shell
3. I bought the BMW color system (titanium silver) from the dealer for 32 bucks, but it came with no instructions
Id appreciate any insight as to how to use this paint to fix the scratches.
I have some minor issues on the door handle as well (the paint from the pole is on the handle), which I think I can buff out..
Due to some faulty REI pants, I'm down to one key on my 2006 E90 330I. I'm willing to pay the dealer price for a replacement, but I'm also wondering if there is a secondary market for keys? And if so, any weird issues with having it programmed to operate my vehicle? Thanks.
First of all how are you guys?,the reason im here is cause i am planning on buying a used bmw 3series sedan. and well i actually found one, but im a little scared cause i think the deal is too good to be true i would like some input plz help!!!!
yea thats what i was thinking but was very skeptical since i've heard alot of bad feedback about used BMW's. is there anything i should be worried about though?
Well read the CARFAX and have the car thoroughly checked out by an independent mechanic. At 62K miles you want to look at tire wear, control arm bushings, driveshaft supports, the condition of the coolant and radiator hoses, strut leaks, and that every single gadget, knob and accessory works perfectly.
