I purchased my 2014 CR-V AWD just a few weeks ago. So far have driven slighly over 400 miles, mostly city driving. I am only getting 20.7 miles per gallon. Does that sound about normal? I have it in the ECON mode all the time.

Is it new to you? How many miles on it? Just the 400?

28ish would be expected, but some people don't get the EPA mileage right from the start. If your '14 is new, it may take a few thousand miles to get there.

Also.. it's pretty hard to get an accurate count on just one tank.... Calculate it over 3 or 4 tanks, then check back.

Did you get a good deal? Be sure to come back and share!

Usually new engines require a few thousand miles to fully break in; that's when the mileage should get better.

  • Driving around NYC I get around 22-23 mpg but 26 with mix highway and city. I have come to the conclusion with 22.5k miles its better to drive with the ECO button off even in city the MPG reading at least from the screen is slightly better.

My wife gets low 20's around town in her 13 CRV.  On long road trips, we usually will be in low to mid 30's depending on the speed limits.

Lots of things go into how many mpg you will get. Including how you really drive the vehicle, i.e. fast starts, lots of braking, and driving fast. If the vehicle is in good running condition, tires aired up to specs, and you drive 'right' then you should get 30+ mpg.

Yes, new engines will provide better gas mileage after several thousand miles of use.
