Is there a trunk lock keyhole behind the PBR part of the Chrysler wing on the 300? If so, does it slide and lock open, and does anyone have a part# for it?
Shep; I understand what you are saying about the 3.5 engine .I had a 94 intrep es, and i traded a 2000 300m to get my 300 limited.I have not heard from the dealer as yet.I feel if they drop the pan and do not find a bearing bad then what?I will keep in touch to let you know what happens carmen2
Well just wanted to post this pic to show anyone wether they were thinking of adding vertical doors to their 300. BTW this is a black 300C pic taken in Cali.
Hey Carmen, To give substance to my recco's let me say I have been a nearly life long mechanic. I was an Implement dealer with a shop for about 20 years. We sold Chrysler 318 engines on our combines and they were virtually perfect. I have a '97 LHS 3.5 with over 100M miles--just had oil changes and spark plugs to date. Iwrecked my 2000 LHS with 120M same story as the 07. So now I have a 300 with the 3.5. 24000 mi no problems. The engines are potentially perfect. My point is human nature and flaws in metal cause problems. There is no way Chrysler can fix your rattle without looking inside. I have one of those high priced testers that diagnoses problems but it won't diagnose a rattle. Assuming it is a serious problem they can only fix it by looking inside. If you refuse access they are stopped cold. Maybe a loose valve lifter that rattles at low rpms --I can think of a whole bunch of things. They will know about where the rattle originates and they have to look in from the top or bottom. Taking a cover off is nothing notable or affects the engine in any manner. It's just a gasket and/or a sealer and a bunch of bolts. For heaven sakes let them peer inside. It won't hurt a thing and I am betting it will lead to the cure. They have built a lot of those motors-- and made them all run nicely!!! Hope this helps you shep
Well, the 300M has buttons on the transmitter and inside as well, but it also has a trunk mounted lock. I assume that pretty much every trunk has one, including the 300. The reason I ask is that I removed the lock from my 300M and covered it with a wing a long time ago (unfortunately it sort of looks now like I'm trying to copy the 300, when in fact I was copying the LHS :-)), and if the 300 wing has a keyhole cover, I'd rather have that and my lock back, if I can find it.
I went to a dealership and the trunk wing does not hide a lock. The wing is slightly different from the LHS; there is more chrome above the PBR oval.
The 300C I looked at was a special customized one for the Minnesota State Fair. Aligator-ized leather seats, two sets of gills in the hood, no chrome on the grille except the wing, I think (pretty much one piece), faux-marble plastic instead of fake wood, 20 inch wheels. LCD monitors in the headrests. Nicest 300 I've ever seen. Around $50K.
However, sice I already have a 300M, if I were to drop $50K on something, it would be a supercharged Crossfire Roadster. Mmmmmmmm.
I also suggested the prism on another discussion board last year and most of those there had some sort of snide reply. To bad, as they would probably like it if they tried it.
As with many new cars, there is no key hole in the 300 trunk lid.
Does anybody know when the 2007's will be coming out? When did the 2006 300 start selling? If Chrysler Corp. asked me for suggestions; I would like to give a few. 1st, I would suggest a special paint color only offered in each model. Plus, add more solid colors. I would like seeing a solid black color offered. Maybe a deep red solid color added. I would also like power lumbar as an option. Maybe a slightly richer feeling interior would be good for the C’s The 2005/2006 Chrysler 300's sure are great. My Silver 300 C is awesome. The power is very good. When my wife drives, she likes to punch it every once in a while to feel the power of the Hemi. I like how the more basic 300's can have just a few things added, and then look like a million dollars. The Chrysler 300 is very good if coolness is important. The Chrysler 300 is also very good if safety is important. What would you like to see added to the 2007? What do you like about your 300?
Well.....! I've been hearing to many problems on the 300C which I'm not like at all. If they fix all that up maybe yeah, but still a bit more over to the IS 350! I know I know pick dammit! But I may just wait a bit till I hear some good news about the 300's problem or even the convertible which I've been hearing about! That or when Lexus reduces the prices on the IS 350's! Who knows!! Maybe I'll buy both!??
Hello! We have had 3 instances of the car experiences what we think are transmission problems. The car once placed into gear does not excerlate or can only go a certain speed and the car will begin to jerk. 3 main computer pieces have been replaced. Our transmission had to be cleaned because the fluid gelled and burnt up. Is anyone else having the same problems? What is going on? We love the car but it is spending more time with the dealer than me! New Jersey
:shades: Well,I can't say I blame you for taking your time. Thats a lot of moola to be spending and not completely satisfied with the decision. But what ever you decide, share it with me and all the forum readers. "Might make me trade in"
I have to admit, I don't get the cross shopping between a 300C and an IS350. One is a large luxury car that can comforably seat 5 and happens to have some stones under the hood, the other can seat 2 adults and maybe 2 children at a pinch (my 8 and 11 year old both immediately told there was no way they would ride in the back of the IS when we went to take a look).
If you only need to locomote two people at the most (driver included), then why the 300C? If you want near BMW handling, then why again for the 300C? If you want a true sedan with attitude then why the IS?
I've been known to cross shop some strange combinations, but this one I simply don't understand.
Yeah the one that I was able to negotiate to really low price was the 300C with every option but rear video, for 32-33k (DONT FULLY REMEMBER) The 2006 TL I went under invoice with 5 spd Auto/Nav for 30K, but the the IS "wow" just went down only $1000! But I know one thing for sure that all these cars have in common, is that there entry-level luxury cars! But im still going to wait to see any news on any of these cars.
Tequila:I really think the 300c is the one fer ya. As soon as I get my new one back like the first one I told you about,Im going to seen you a pic to settle your mine for good!! Just wait and seeeeeee!!!! lolol
We had this problem in the very being as well. But Chrysler insisted nothing was wrong with the car. The car has broke down at least 4 times. WE have had 3 computer pieces replaced. I think something is going on. I know of another person who is going thru the same " transmission like problems". I don't know what to do. Can someone help? Is it possible to insit on having a Chrysler Technician look at the car instead of these local "monkey wrenches"? New Jersey
Hi Smithed; This is carmen.I also had a 300m year 2000 and had no problem with the 3.5.It did not have a knock at 1000rpms under load.As i told Shep now they tell me this is normal and will not even drop the pan, they said they would not find anything wrong. Now what options do i have.
Hi Shep I dont think my message to you was posted.DC now tells me this low speed knock is normal on the 2006 3.5 engine.they will not drop the pan because they say they will find nothing wrong.I dont know what my choices are at this time.Other the knock the car runs fine even though the mileage is not as good as the 2000 300m.I can accept that but not the knock. CARMEN
Hi Carmen, Nope I didn't see a second message. Anyhoo: If it were my car I would say thanks, I'd appreciate a receipt with your diagnosis and then I would go ahead and run it. In spite of the complaints you read from some who say the warranty for DC is .... I have run Chryslers for thirty five years and I never knew a serious problem to be ignored. I am also a pilot--you get over a big body of water and the engine goes into "automatic rough" damn thing misses all the way to the shore line. A new car will do that-- all that money and what if?? I think you have a little heavier car than the 300m the engine and whole drive line is new and tight--they don't really loosen up for about 10m miles--not sure the gas we get is as good as it used to be-- you probably wont get the same mileage. If it is a curable fault they will fix it for the next what--35000 miles?! DRive and enjoy those engines are one tough hunk all best shep
Has anyone changed their cold air intake on the 5.7 Hemi. I see that there are some for sale on eBay as well as K&N.
If so has there been an increase in HP, MPH? What degree of difficulty is it to remove the stock unit and replace the after market version.. Thanks in advance.
I wouldn't change from the standard OEM air filter to K&N. The aftermarket air filters to not do enough of the latter (filtering). The increase in air flow is not worth it and the filters let more particulate matter get into the combustion mixture. From what I have read, not worth much in performance advantage and not a good thing for the engine. The OEM filters keep the HEMI cleaner. That's what I'm doing with mine.
Please research this a little further on the internet before you do it. :shades:
I just bought a 2005 300c with 7000 miles and have put 2000 miles on and the transmission went out the other night coming home from Atlantic city. I started to notice a little jitter in the acceleration when it was in cruise mode, Then I started hearing a high pitch buzzing noise and thought it was the radio. Well when I stopped at a light crossing over RT72 to continue on Rt539 north the car slipped out of gear and would not go, Mind you this is two in the morning out in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone service. I smelled something funny coming from the car. I then tried the manual mode and the stick would not work, So I shut the car off and turn it back on to have it work for about a secound and then the tranny would not engage or anything. So lucky me called 911 to have the police come out and get me a tow truck. So much for chrysler road side service they wanted to take my car to a impound yard and leave me at a dinner with no ride home. Contract says they must take it to the nearest dealer.Well I paid out of pocket to take me and the car home and then have it towed again back to the dealer with a final out of pocket cost of almost four hundred dollars which I'm getting back from Chrysler road service. I've also notice high speed vibrations from the tires and drifting problems with the front end. Sometimes the climate control starts blowing cold air when set at one temp. I thought climate control meant keeping it at one set level with no major temp swings? It's winter and thing is blowing cold air like it's summer. I'm going to have to wait and see what the outcome is about these problems. I will post results from dealer. I love the car but I'm hoping this is not going to be and on going issue. You buy a new car thinking your safe from break downs. Man my old 1988 lincoln never left me on the side of the road and I still drive it.
I recently purchased a 300c with 7000 miles on it. Two weeks in the tranny started slipping, I was able to limp it to the dealer at 5:30 on a Fri night. They looked at it on Monday and told me the problem was the tranny fluid was contaminated with coolant. This was apperantly a recall, but did not include my production date 300. Well, not more than 2 weeks after that, The tranny went out again, this time the car would not move. Yes 11:30 on a Sat night, 32 degrees out. Stranded, are we getting the picture. So as I write this I'm waiting for a ride to the dealer to do battle. More to come....
I am thinking of a 300C or SRT for my next car which I will probably buy in mid 2007. I owned a 97 Chrysler LHS which I traded for a 1998 Cadillac Deville in 2001. Traded my 98 for a 2004 Deville in July 2004. Local Chrysler dealership has treated me better than the local Cadillac dealer. I like the style and power of the 300C. Reading a story like yours gives me pause. so far all my cars have been relatively trouble free. If there are any former Cadillac owners that read this post would be interested in your experiences with your Cadillac versus the 300C. Please be sure to post your complete experience with this particular problem and thanks very much for sharing your problem to this point.
You might read the Pacifica and Pacifica problems discussions to see how the problems in design continue to plague the marque. I have a buddy who bought a Pacifica after the August 1st change in their first selling year. So I have watched the forums for him.
Hello all, Have read the forums for some time now since ive owned my 300 limited for 6 months so far. have to admit it seems like everyone does have one thing or another about theirs that arise now and then that are in all cars after they buy them. I can attest to the fact its the first car ive ever owned that saved a life and walked away to say so. Wife was driving to work one day and stopped at an intersection to allow an ambulance to pass and got nailed in the [non-permissible content removed] of the 300 by a broad doing 60 mph in a full sized ford without slowing down, flattened the ford to the windslhild and put the whole rear clip of the chrysler to the gorund.wife pulled over and got out and walked away.........not so fortunate for the other driver............will i buy another?......aready have and will continue to do so as well. When a car that well built saves the ones you love and live about it.........best damn car ive ever had!...................think about that next time you want quality and want the ones you love around to enjoy.........thanks for you attention and enjoy
I have a 300 also with the same problem and have had it back for this slipping problem they tell me it is normal , I say normal my [non-permissible content removed]. I paid cash for my car so trading it in now i would lose big but just waiting a year then good buy with it I sure hope i don't have the problems you have as i need to car to transport my wife to philly at least once a month. The dealer calls it a mild shutter mine has been back four times and they are slick about it to avoid the lemon law. Good luck as we all need to stick together maybe they will tell the tyruth and get it fixed :lemon:
Like George 21, I have owned my 300 limitted for six months.Got the AWD modle because we live in the north west. Had alittle of a trani leak that was fixed by the dealer right away. Purchased my car from a small dealer here in town and have received excellent support. Dealership makes the difference guys. I have brough many new cars and this one have to be amoung the best. So for have had no problems with mine and we have over 16000 miles already. Good luck to you all and happy motoring.
How does everyone like the way the car drives on wet and icy roads? what is your in put for car care in salt conditions? Last but not least, anyone figure out the lite system yet on the 2006 300, some times my head lite stay on but I cannot figure out how I keep doing it I think it great but how???
Hi, Green12. We had freezing rain last night and this AM the streets were ice with a skim of water (just staring to melt). People were falling down just trying to walk across the street. Ye 300 with the EPS system was unbelievable. When you step on the brakes it sounds like it is grinding all the gears out of the transmission but it slowed down, steered and stopped like a warm summer day. Unbelieveable!!! and I am a septegenerian with several million miles of all kinds of rigs & roads behind me! As to headlights--just turn the lights off before you turn the engine off. If you have the limited there is a range up to 1.5 minutes you can set with the steering wheel buttons.
For the person who wants to find their odometer reading--need to know if you have the steering wheel full of buttons or just the little push button on the R quadrant of the instrument panel--if the latter just keep cycling (pushing) that button (kind of a post). shep
:confuse: I love my 300C. Well, most of the time!? How can such a BIG car with SO much power get STUCK in 3 inches of snow!!! I've been driving for MANY years and this is my 12th new car!!! It's like driving in a 'Death Trap' when it snows or rains. I finally got rid of the TRASH tires (Continentals) that came with my $40,000 version of the 300C - with only 20,000 miles on the tires - and replaced them with Goodyear ComforTread tires. They are much better. I'm told that Chrysler is now offering the Goodyear as standard.
Also, my transmission started slipping last week and this week when I turned the car on and pulled out of the driveway, the transmission failed to engage in forward OR reverse. I shut off the engine and turned it on again nd it was OK for now. I'm heading to the dealer tomorrow AM for the 'run-around' Have there been any TSB's on this issue? Help! Thanks for all the great info on the web site...
hi Shep4, junior8213 here. thanks for helping with my odometer problem. It's not as simple as the post. There isn't one its all electronic buttons in the steering wheel. I've tried multiple combinations but can't get it to toggle off of trip and back to the main odometer. I'm thinking something may be wrong with the electronics,i guess i'll have to take it in. Mike
I have the same problem with my 300 I have been back to the dealer also keep in contact with them Via Phone that know the problem is there but don't know how to fix Chrysler has no TSB's out yet they told me drive until something happens. I will keep the car a year then good bye unless they find a fix if it lasts that long, I do love the car but not the problem with the trans. the first time I brought it back they said it was normal until I printed all the people on this form haveing the same problem now they say they are trieing to find a fix. As before i was told it was normal, normal my [non-permissible content removed] !!!!!!!!!!
Hi! prdiva, If they do find a fix for your problem please list as I am haveing the same type of problems and the dealer cannot find or fix it when i go to my chrysler dealer. They know it is there but tell me to just drive untill it does not go any more then do what i have too. that is not and answer to me i have been told to seek lewon law.
Hey Jr., to show your total mileage, push the top of the inner right hand button (shows a two page menu. First up will be the total mileage and the running miles per gallon (if you reset it it will give you current runnning mileage as you drive. AT that point just push the bottom of the same button and you will have temperature, compass direction and total miles on the car which will stay current as you drive. shep
What you say is true, Shep, but I'm surprised Chrysler would delete the trip odometer function (my 300C is a 2005). Jr, are you sure there is no small black shaft protruding through the instrument cluster/s plexiglass cover? Pressing it once gives me "trip A" mileage, pressing twice gives "trip B" mileage, and the third press gives me total mileage. Holding down the shaft for a couple of seconds after either of the trip settings will reset that trip mileage to zero.
On a separate subject, that of transmission slipping, has anyone with the problem checked under the car for transmission leakage? Maybe the cause is low fluid?? There's no dipstick for the transmission so you can't check the level yourself. My transmission wasn't acting strange but I did start to notice a red fluid under the car. Took it to the dealer who confirmed seal leakage (apparently a common problem) and repaired it under warranty. No problems at 16K.
