kdhspyder,
Do you have your orders in for the 08s already? Do you have an estimate as to when they might start to arrive?
Thanks.
..a few days to a week to the vessel;
..3 week trip to NY;
..a few days to a week at the port;
..a day or two truck transit time here.
Are you accepting orders from individuals for the 2008s? I have emailed numerous dealers and can't get anything out of them regarding the 2008 model. I would think if a guy were willing to place an order for a new car, that dealers would be eager to get him information.
My email is in my profile.
I agree. The only new crossover that has had rebates is the Acadia/Outlook, and it took several months for that to happen. Although people were getting that one close to invoice after only a month or so after release.
In general, I don't think that any new crossover can command MSRP for too long: even the new MDX was coming off full retail price after a couple months, and everyone on that forum initially believed it would hold full retail price for at least a year. There's just too much choice out there right now.
Other things the limited package includes are fog lamps, rear spoiler, 17" aluminum wheels, mudguards, roof rack w/rails, leather steering wheel w/audio & cruise controls, leather shifter stalk, painted wood door switch plate, metal & painted wood center insturment panel, chrome inside door handle, auto air conditioning, ouside temp gauge, keyless entery, daytime running lights & 8-way power dirver's seat.
It notes the towing package has a 3500 pound towing capacity, & I thought that was going to be 5000.
He expects the same options to be available for the hybrid version.
Good luck, Scott
Thanks
Thanks for looking. It would be nice to pick and choose options such as Nav but my understanding is Toyota has fairly fixed packages on various model grades. It will all be sorted out soon.
Also, the 2007 towing package has a 3,500-lb towing capacity, so even more so I think your dealer is looking at the current specs instead of the 2008 details.
I'm eager to see the new pricing and features/options too...
I noticed tirerack.com has some aftermarket rotors and pads with some very positive user comments, and thinking about going that route instead of using Toyota originals. Has anyone replaced their rotors and pads themselves, whether OEM or not, and care to share their experience or any tips for the job? Thanks!

There are always exceptions I guess. I was shopping for a '07 HL last Friday and a truck pulled into the dealer with 2-07 HL's on it! The salesman told me they weren't trades either.
- Blizzard Pearl
- Classic Silver Metallic
- Magnetic Gray Metallic (n/a on Hybrid)
- Black
- Salsa Red Pearl (n/a on Hybrid)
- Sandy Beach Metallic (n/a on Hybrid)
- Cypress Pearl
- Wave Line Pearl
- Iced Amethyst Mica (Hybrid only)
Wave Line Pearl is the light blue-ish color that's featured in the Highlander mini-site on Toyota's webpage (see photos of the Highlander Hybrid).
I'm looking forward to seeing the new model in either the Blizzard Pearl or the Magnetic Gray.
Is there a non-Pearl white offered, e.g., Toyota's Super White? And this gets pretty involved, but are you aware of the interior colors available with those exterior colors? Namely, if there is a plain white exterior offered, is it available with a grey interior?
Thanks
Interestingly, this is consistent with the Avalon -- the only white offered will be the pearl white.
I don't have any information on the interior colors, although based on the 2008 Highlander mini-site, we know there is a "Sand Beige" leather inerior (shown on the Hybrid) and a "Gray" leather (shown on the Sport).
Thanks for checking. That seems strange not to include a plain white as a color, as it is often, at least in NorCal, one of the most popular choices. Can I ask where you got that info?
How does the 2008 Highlander compare to the current model of Sequoia in terms of features and dimensions?

"At the low end, the Highlander Base 4X2 model's sticker gets bumped $510 to $27,300 while the 4X4 is up $560 to $28,750.
Sport and Limited level Highlanders get standard backup cameras independent of a navigation system and 19" wheels. Sport 4X2 models get a $985 bump to $29,950. Limited buyers also get keyless entry and will pay MSRP of $32,700 for the 4X2 and $34,150 for the 4X4, which is $1,890 and $1,940 more than 2007 models."

It will tow 5k, so how much truck you need?

drfill: I'm looking at towing about 4K lbs. So the 5K tow rating on the new 08 HL is just right for my family. I hope the demand is slow for these so I can get a decent deal (I don't like to pay MSRP for anything). My wife wants a loaded 4x4 Limited if it test drives well.
Does anyone here know if a dealer will let me hitch up my boat trailer on our test drive? I really like to see how it tows before buying.
Before anyone tells me that I "need" a bigger SUV I must add that I will only tow about 3 times a year and cannot justify buying a Sequoia ot Tahoe and wasting money, gas, and the envirorment when I will be driving 99% of the time not towing.
Regarding the other thread on dimensions, I just noticed that the new Highlander matches the current 4Runner in almost every dimension. Both have a 109.8 wheelbase, both are 75.2 inches wide, and the Highlander is less than an inch shorter (188.4 vs 189.2).
Personally, I'd go for a new redesigned model. It is totally up to you though!
I am wondering if the new 2008 Highlander will have the following?:
- Remote Start?
- Power Liftgate?
- Will the 3rd row seat be suitable for adults?
- What about the whole new store away center console thing? Will you be able to put a child's seat in the center easily and still be able to access the 3rd row seats?
Would appreciate the help!

This is almost surely incorrect. The redesigned Pilot should be available Spring 08 (i.e. 9-10 months) as an 09 model.
I was hoping we'd start to see reviews of the non-Hybrid, but I also understand that it's not exactly the most thrilling/exciting vehicle to write about.
The Hybrid review was very informational, though. I think this was the first set of photos of a base-model Hybrid and the first of the cloth interior. If you looked closely, you can also see the manual air conditioner controls (as opposed to the automatic system in the Limited).
The more I see the '08, the more it's growing on me. I'm looking forward to seeing the Highlander in person and driving the non-Hybrid in July.
One thing it did not say is if the stereo system has RDS. This is where the name of the song and artist display from the radio station. Is this going to be available?

Just what I've been waiting for!
Another ZIP code to try is 75260. This takes you to the Gulf States distributor. Once you click on Highlander, you'll see the 2007 model. Then you have to do some URL manipulation.
Go to your URL area, highlight "2007" where it says "Year=2007" and change it to 2008. Voila! You'll see the standard features and options for the 2008 model -- all three trim levels are there, though they aren't labeled (you can tell from the prices).
This is great info; stuff I don't think we've seen offered by salespeople at dealerships yet (at least not in my area). For example, the base model still uses a "flexible mast antenna" and has a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel.
I know some of the prices vary by region and distributor, but this is great info. It's kind of scary that getting this info is almost as exciting as searching for info on the iPhone.
Edited to add:
It looks like the base model will have (picking out the interesting things):
17" Aluminum wheels (with full size aluminum spare)
Color-keyed mirrors, door handles, bumpers
Silver grill and rear license plate garnish
Blacked-out fog lamp covers (you can see this in the Edmunds review of the base Hybrid)
Small rear spoiler
AM/FM/Single CD player, 6 speakers
Mast antenna
Privacy glass
Remote keyless entry
The Sport model will add or replace:
Smoked chrome framed grille with dark silver paint
Smoked headlamps and tail lens
Chrome exhaust tip
Fog lamps
In-glass antenna
Rear glass hatch
19" wheels (no mention of the spare)
Auto on/off headlights
Rear back-up camera
Leather steering wheel with audio controls
Engine immobilizer
AM/FM/6CD Changer
Power 8-way driver's seat (unclear if passenger is also 4-way power)
Limited adds or replaces:
Heated mirrors
Chrome door handles
Puddle lamps
Front dual-zone auto climate control
Leather steering wheel with audio and AC controls
Smart Entry system (keyless start)
Leather interior with wood-grain trim
10-way power driver's seat
Homelink
Sorry this is so long; keep in mind I'm doing this from the cryptic lists on the site, so it's all subject to change/typos/other errors. Also, although the standard features seem right, the optional features and packages seem to be missing on the site (Limited shows navigation as the only option, and not the power rear hatch and other options that should be there).
PS: Anyone know how a 'drop down hitch' option is different from the 'tow package' option?
- Remote Start?
- Power Liftgate?
- Will the 3rd row seat be suitable for adults?
- What about the whole new store away center console thing? Will you be able to put a child's seat in the center easily and still be able to access the 3rd row seats? "
remote start= yes
power liftgate = yes
last 2 questions = ???
What you are seeing are the prices in SET, ZIP code 35758. This is entirely different that the Toyota pricing because SET is s private company and they can charge whatever they want.
I'm certain that at $41,000 you have every possible option under the sun added to these first vehicles. There are buyers that do come in and order that way...'Make sure you don't leave off anything.'
The 'Build Your Highlander' function is controlled by each region separately. That's why some ZIP's don't work yet. The function isn't activated until just before the vehicles arrive. Watch you'll see entirely different pricing.
The 'Tow Package' in Toyota's terminology normally means the mechanical adjustments to the drivetrain/transmission that will allow the vehicle to tow up to 5000 lbs. The 'Drop hitch' and possibly the wiring harness are the actual connectors and are normally extra.
