Stickyman - I persisted with my internet shopping and had one last dealer to contact. It was the best thing I ever did. I'm getting the TL-non nav for $30,900. The internet salesman was super nice and didn't haggle at all. I'm so happy. All those other greedy salesman can keep their TL's. :)

I want to get the 04 TL Auto w/Nav. I know that the 05 models come out in October. I have the option of buying it now or towards the end of Aug/begining of Sept. What do you think of the price trend towards the end of summer? Will they go down or remain the same because people like me are trying to scoop them up before the new ones come out? If I wait till the end of summer, i can give a bigger down payment as well....

    Thx for your input

A friend of mine put me through to a manager buddy at an Acura dealership who would "take good care of me". He quoted me a 04 TL w/nav for $33,000 total (he said $600 over sticker!). I was looking at a 48 month/ 12,000 mile/ 1800 total inc. fees @ $498.00 per month. Is this a good price? Should I finance? More concerned with the price to make sure I am being "taken care of".

what DFW dealer did you use? Did you have a trade in?
  • mikey38mikey38 Member Posts: 141
    what dealer did you use??
  • nutakkinutakki Member Posts: 2
    I didn’t have a trade in . I used Vandergriff Acura.
  • mikey38mikey38 Member Posts: 141
cool..I just contact them via e-mail this morning for a price. The local dealer in OKC thinks he is the only one that stocks the TL so I was unable to work an acceptable deal locally.
  • jrkellyjrkelly Member Posts: 21
The dealer I got my quote from is Mac Churchill in Ft. Worth. Although I'm having second thoughts because they don't have the best Better Business Bureau report. I tried Vandergriff and was totally frustrated. The internet sales manager wouldn't even give me a quote. He said that I would tell his competitors what they were selling them for and ruin their business. He made it sound like a quote was top secret information. When I finally got him to hint toward a quote it seemed a little high. Glad someone got a good deal there.

Juddlaw1, the price $33,000 is nice, but the lease figure bites. That is way too high for a 4 yr lease. Ask in the lease forum for the money factor and residual values for a 4 yr lease and compute the #'s for yourself.

know this has probably been asked already, but here goes. I am considering
trading my 03 types for a new TL. Not sure if I should purchase an 04 or wait
for 05 model. I cannot foresee many changes or additions except maybe a few more
color choices and a higher price. The dealer has an 04 Anthracite with ebony interior
and Nav being built on the 23rd of July. I know if I wait my trade in will be worth
less. Thanks in advance for any input.

Hey... have any of you gotten any good deals in Wisconsin or Illinois area? I am looking to get a TL with navi but cant seem to find a good deal.
    Thanks.

What internet quote services does everyone use? I have put in quote requests from Edmunds, cars.com and vehix already but have made no progress with getting quotes. Any other suggestions?? The first dealer I spoke with tried to make it sound like $32,800 for a non-navi auto was a good deal, I'm not buying it...
  • ghomazghomaz Member Posts: 68
Bought in NJ on 6/30/04 for $29,990 (including destination charges, excluding taxes). Price was finalized on 6/28 over the internet, initial quote was $30,200.

Anyone in the DFW area done business with Goodsen Acura in Irving? Internet sales guy is quoting me a $30,300 price on a non-nav TL..which is lower than anyone else I have talked to. Any experiences, good or bad, with these folks? Thanks
  • mikey38mikey38 Member Posts: 141
I can answer my own question now. They are shady at best. When I asked the internet guy to confirm the $30,300 quote included all dealer required fees minus TTL the story became. ....You will have to risk finding out what our fees are by coming to the dealership. blah.....risk this buddy

    mikey38,

My suggestion is go to the internet and check out Houston, Austin, and Oky City. If the dealers in DFW don't want to deal, move on to another town. A flight via Southwest isn't bad and it's a good way to break in the o4:-)
  • darlingdarling Member Posts: 1
I LIVE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, AND WONDERING WHAT A GOOD DEAL ON THE TL WOULD BE. ANY HELP?
  • jrkellyjrkelly Member Posts: 21
Mikey38 - you're scaring me! They quoted me the same number today but said I had to put down a $1000 non-refundable deposit. I said no way to the deposit. We are supposed to go there Saturday to get the car. Guess I better email him and make sure that price includes everything but TT&L.
  • cheddarmuffcheddarmuff Member Posts: 8
ghomaz....what town/dealer? The prices in Michigan are still around $900 above invoice which is driving me crazy. I will be back in Jersey in August and may wait if I can save $1-$2k.

Western Suburbs of Chicago....04 TL auto w Nav 33,300.
  • khelweinkhelwein Member Posts: 6
Wow... thats a pretty good deal. Yesterday I got a quote from WI dealer for 1000 off MSRP, which is 34,195. But I guess most dealers here are factoring in the tax savings I get compared to if I buy my car in IL.
  • mikey38mikey38 Member Posts: 141
well, I live in OKC which is why I was checking in the DFW area. The local dealer thinks he is the only one in the country with TLs to sell. Having a car to trade complicates the internet dealing.
  • mikey38mikey38 Member Posts: 141
yea...I don't much trust those folks based on our e-mail conversations. I'd confirm the price before you head over there. Good luck...let us know how it turns out.
  • jrkellyjrkelly Member Posts: 21
That's funny that you are in OKC. I was getting ready to try them since the situation in DFW is so bad. I'm getting mine tomorrow from Mac Churchill in Ft. Worth. I called the guy at Goodson and you were correct. He made me so mad that there is no way I'd give him my business. Have you tried Vandergriff in Arlington? They are biggest volumn dealer but their internet sales guy likes to play games but it might be worth a shot for you. Good luck finding what you want. :)

I suppose....but the selling price of the vehicle is just that. I would imagine you should be able to negotiate without your residency becoming a factor. I'm pretty sure that if you told them that you lived in IL they wouldn't automatically drop the price. I'd keep shopping......good luck!

If you are willing to drive or fly, the dealerships in kanssas City and Springfield Mo were great to work with, especially the internet dealer in SPFD. THey are sister dealerships and the KC Jay Wolfe dealer is the largest dealer is some 16 states in the midwest.....good inventory and can usually get what you want. I ordered a 6MT with navi and HPT in the exact color and interior I wanted and got it in 3 weeks. Pd 33,500 with protection package and extra set of factory tires for winter use.

Has anyone heard if there is going to be a price
    increase on th 05 TL?
  • c5_4func5_4fun Member Posts: 59
I bought my TL in Chicagoland back in Feb. I spent time dealing (or trying to deal) with several of the 6 Acura dealers here and had the best deal at Napleton in Elmhurst. Two bits of advice is to get internet quotes first, and specify the price you want is all inclusive except TTL.
  • end5255end5255 Member Posts: 5
Hey how are ya? I hope you didnt buy your TL yet...99% of dealers have hidden incentives and other things which we all dont know about. even if they sell you the car at or below invoice they are still making a profit anywhere from $500-$1500 in manufacturer holdback incentives. Go to the dealer with a printout from edmunds.com or cars direct.com work from the invoice up. NEVER EVER EVER go by the MSRP. If anything ask below invoice, less then what you are willing to pay. If the invoice is 32,000 or something like that for the TL/nav then ask for 31,000. if there is another acura dealer near you, even better. Dont be afraid to walk out, they will call you back...trust me on that one. Also dont let them approach you and ask how they can help you and what is youre price range blah blah blah. Thats basically a standard in selling cars course 101. Make sure you know what you want, power options and all. The best thing you can do honestly to get the best deal...Go to your bank or your credit union and tell them you want buy a car and try to get a pre approved loan through them and have them cut you a check. then you go to the dealer basically with cash. If the TL w/NAV at invoice is 32,000 tell them that you will bring them a check either that day or the next for (start low)$29,500. Believe me you will get a great deal. If you pay cash for it,i.e. bank check, pre-approved loan you should get at for at least $1000 below invoice. Last but not least, after you get your deal you will then meet with the sales manager who is going to try and sell you all sorts of warranties. Seriously ask yourself, if they are trying to sell me this great car which does all this and that and comes with a manufacturers warranty. Then why are they trying to sell me this other stuff. If you really had to buy all those warranties then maybe the car isnt so great so obviously dont bother with the extra warranties, Unless you want to make a generous donation to your local dealership. Good luck let me know how it goes.

Good advice but please let us know when you find a dealer selling $29.5K for TL with Nav, or TL w/o Nav, for that matter.
  • aaarghaaargh Member Posts: 230
Not to be rude, but DUH! All this has been discussed at length on this forum. In some areas of the country, people are getting quotes for the mid-to-high $29Ks (non-nav). However, in other parts of the country, mid $31K is the best. NOBODY is getting a Navi for anywhere near invoice. The law of supply (low) and demand (high) dictates that (though it seems quotes are coming down recently).

Another thing, dealerships will give you a BETTER deal if you finance with them instead of bringing them a check. They DON'T MAKE as much MONEY when you don't finance with them.

Another thing, a bank won't give you a car loan without the VIN (you can't just get a check).

Also, try hitting the enter key once in a while. Paragraphs are our friends!
  • end5255end5255 Member Posts: 5
Hi how are ya, Sorry about the non paragraphs. I just got on this forum so I havent read all of the messages. As for the dealers giving you a better deal if you finance...thats not so. Dealers go through banks, some of the big dealers have their own like acura has honda financing. They send your application to a bunch of banks when you apply through them.

I dont know how it is in the mid west but here in the northeast. I know I can get a tl with nav for invoice. When I first went to buy I got the TL for $29.7k and that was a finance. Youre right a bank wont just cut you a check without the vin number but if you get pre approved first then go to the dealer and get the deal you want offering a check thats when you go back to the bank and get it.

As for getting nav at invoice, There are so many dealers that its not their business you want, its your business they want. You can get navi for invoice. Of course you might be right about your location but up here you can.
  • aaarghaaargh Member Posts: 230
I have to diasagree with you about the financing issue. Dealers DO make money when you fianance through them. They get a commission from the bank they wouldn't if you financed yourself. Why else would they offer that service? Typically, the best rates come through the dealership anyway. I know, I work for a BIG bank. The banks offer their best rates to dealers, not individuals.

There have been comments on this board about dealerships not working with people who had credit union financing AND asking for good deals. They were told to get a better deal, they would have to finance through the dealership.

Typically dealers work with one or two banks depending on the type of loan and credit rating. I'm not positive about this, but this is what I was told by my dealership.

It seems the prices on NAVIs are coming down, but not around here or in CA. Two months ago, invoice was unheard of.
  • pajackpajack Member Posts: 32
You mean I can get a price for $1000 below invoice if I pay them in cash on the day I buy the car? I am planning to buy a TL w/Nav in August. Do you have any experience of buying a car with cash? Please let me know about it?
  • end5255end5255 Member Posts: 5
We both are probably wrong and right. The reason why I say this to you is because I have friends who are both sales associates and sales managers at dealers...i.e. Honda and Nissan. Their eyes light up when people buy cash. The situations Ive seen people have gotten great deals buying cash. My friend bought an Eclipse for his son. First he was going to finance it 26k for 48 months, then he asked, if I were to pay cash for this right now how much would you sell it to me for.

They sold him that same car for 20k He didnt go in having done any reasearch which I told him to do but he was able to get a pretty good deal even though I dont really think its worth it for an eclipse.

If people play their cards right they can get very good deals but it takes a lot of time and a lot of effort. This site has a lot of useful information that can be used to our advantage..i.e. cost, invoice, depreciation..etc

As for banks/credit unions vs dealerships...Dealership is always going to try and go the way for it to benefit itself. I belong to a credit union here in Boston and for a 60mth loan the apr is always going to be 3.5. However sometimes you do find special apr deals with dealers and there are so many dealers up here that buyers have the upper hand. You can just walk out of one cross the street and youre in another.
  • end5255end5255 Member Posts: 5
Hey PAjack how are ya? Where are you buying youre TL from? what state? I gotta run but Ill try and give you some info tomorrow, in the mean time, you might have already done this but look up cost, depreciation, option cost and how much options depreciated from last years model, even though its a new TL, nav is still nav. The biggest thing is invoice and depreciation. Good luck
  • habitat1habitat1 Member Posts: 4,282
I'd like to challenge you to name a single dealer that would sell a brand new TL 6-speed w/ Nav for invoice. No demos or other gimmicks like $500 pretection packages or $400 processing fees. Just the $32,120 price + taxes and tags, period.

I shopped pretty hard back in March-May and ended up with one for $1,000 over invoice in Pennsylvania. The car was ordered to my exact color specifications with the HPT package. I took delivery with 3 miles from the factory on the odometer. The supposedly great deals that I checked out in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts and Ohio were either not for non-Nav models, automatics or demos. After I had a done deal with the high integrity PA dealership, several others offered to "try" to match it, but couldn't guarantee me a delivery date.

As for cash, I always pay cash. Sometimes it helps, other times it doesn't. In the case of the TL, it made no significant difference other than making the paperwork go quicker. So, if you have a dealer willing to sell a nav TL for invoice, post their name. I have at least one friend who would be happy to show up with 321 $100 bills if that's what it would take.

I recently received a quote for $1200 off the MSRP on the manual TL no nav. I am located outside Philly and Im sure this isnt the best deal, but am wondering at this point if I should wait until Sept. for the 2005, since I know they arent taking anymore orders for 2004. Do you think they will deal any better since the inventory will be fresh. I was able to get the $1200 off very easily but the manual is rather hard to find. I just dont know what to expect.

I am going to use a home equity line of credit, so I assume this is as good as cash, right? Should I expect to do better this way?

If anyone has any good referrals in my area, please let me know. I am also considering using Fighting Chance, does anyone have any experience with them?

Thanks for any input you have.

    dear habitat1 ,
I just saw your message after I posted mine. If you know a dealer in the Philly area that would do $1000 over invoice I would love to contact them. I also would like to order a car that has no miles on it in the color and interior I want. Im not in any hurry so I can wait for the best deal. Thanks for any input.
  • pajackpajack Member Posts: 32
End5255,Thanks for your info. Probably I am gonna buy a TL W/Nev in Greensburg, Pennsylvania(the closest Acura dealer from Indiana PA, where I live). Please let me know if you get any info around that area. Good luck too...
  • mdhaukemdhauke Member Posts: 202
Another thing, a bank won't give you a car loan without the VIN (you can't just get a check).

Wrong. They can and will give you a check before you buy your car even if you don't have any information on the car and even don't know what kind you are getting. You can get a check that has a max amount. However in order for the check to be valid they (the Dealership) have to write the car's information (like the VIN) onto the check before they cash it. I did this when I bought my TL. I took the check in and said I was getting so and so interest rate. They were able to get me an interest rate one point lower. So I ripped up the check and went through them.
  • habitat1habitat1 Member Posts: 4,282
You can try Contemporary Motorcar in Erie, Pa. Unfortunately, they are further away from Phili than they are from Washington D.C.

However, if you aren't in any real hurry, I would consider waiting for the 2005 model, especially if you want or are considering navigation. It is my understanding that Acura will be increasing the production of nav equiped units for 2005 and that should help equalize supply and demand. Also, oredering a 6-speed in your exact color combo will likely be easier in September/October.

I just bought a TL non nav 6 speed with wheel lock, ash tray, mud guards and a lighter for 30,800 at Clair Acura in norwood, MA. The paper work fees are 105 for a total price of 30,905 + tax

They ordered the car for me in Silver with black leather. I was also offered this car at inskip in Warwick, RI at 30,600

Swung by my local dealer in Nashville to take a look at a TL. Loved the car, loved the Navi and Bluetooth. Tried to make a deal, full MSRP and my trade. Edmunds and KBB both indicated my vehicle was worth 31K (sales guy looked up the numbers). Acura offered me 23k and was surprised I didn't sign the dotted line. Not to mention they didn't have any Auto/Navi cars on the lot. Love the Honda/Acura line but Acura can be a little too proud of themselves when they have a new product. Decided to keep what I have and quit looking!
  • mdhaukemdhauke Member Posts: 202
What year, make, and condition is the car your trying to trade in? Are you sure that the 31K was the trade in value and not the resale value? 31K seems a little high for a trade in value unless your trying to trade in a 2003 BMW 5 series. You can't expect anything more than the trade in value from a dealership.
  • compcomp Member Posts: 43
Price was trade in value, not resale or private party value. My vehicle is an 03 XC90 with very low miles (16500). Absolutely no damage, dings or wear. Car is garaged at night and decked during day. In this market there are no used XC90's within about 250 miles. Sales guy pulled up KBB for trade in value of a "good" vehicle and came up with the number. I looked up the price on Edmunds also and was roughly the same price he found on KBB. I would have bought if he would have offered 28-29k but not 7 big ones lower. He Also told me they were basically not interested in vehicle since it would be wholesaled. Said I would be better off selling myself and buying his car. If I did that I would have to pay full sticker taxes. In TN If we trade the consumer pays taxes on the difference. So this would mean about $2800 in taxes. I've decided to pass. TL is a great car, cool technology and great ride, but not worth MSRP (to me). There are alot of new things coming for 05 so we'll just sit back and see what else comes along. For those driving a TL enjoy it, it's pretty impressive.
