2015 CR-V Vibration Problems

Hearing all kinds of complaints (several other reputable auto sites) about the new CVT transmission causing low speed idle vibration problems. Apparently Honda has finally acknowledged the issue in an official statement, but has yet to provide details on a forthcoming fix. Some have minor vibrations, others are very extreme. Subaru has just about perfected the CVT in forester and other models, but Honda looks like they missed the boat on the inaugural CRV entry into the CVT tranny. Many are still scrambling for the good old 5-speed in the 2014 and earlier models.

Regarding vibration, I Ran into an interesting Scenario when test driving a few Honda CRV's. I was torn between the EX-L Nav in 2WD or AWD. I test drove the 2WD then the AWD. While in the AWD I remembered the vibration issue and I put the car into that config (A/C off, no nav or radio and in Drive) and sure enough got a very noticeable vibration at 600 RPM. The sales guy downplayed the issue at first but I told him I want to test drive the 2WD again because I didn't recall feeling vibrations in that car.
Sure enough when I tested the 2WD it was fine, no vibration issue. The difference was noticeable although I have to admit even the vibration in the AWD was not a show stopper. I would classify it as slightly annoying and when you have the A/C on you barely notice it.
My sales guy agreed with me that there was definitely a difference between the two cars. He was great and put his own detective hat on. He noticed that the AWD that vibrated was manufactured in January of 2015 and the 2WD that didn't vibrate was built in July of 2015. In fact he told me that car had just come off the truck a day earlier. His comment was that maybe Honda was incorporating changes/updates in the newer cars. I don't think the vibration had anything to do with it being an AWD but perhaps the MFG date is key for getting one that doesn't vibrate.
I ended up going with the 2WD. I was on the fence regarding the AWD already and the vibration issue pushed me over to the 2WD. I live in SoCal and I was only going to get AWD for times when I go to our local mountains or camping. I really didn't need AWD and the extra cost was not worth it just to have it.
Just some extra information for those who will be doing test drives.
All CRV owners who are experiencing the vibration problem, please post your BUILD DATE.
(Build date is printed on the sticker on the driver side door jamb).
...note: I am not an off-roader. I have driven Front Wheel Drive vehicles for years, in all kinds of weather, i.e. snow, ice, rain; and with careful driving I have always made it to my destination. If the snow is 'that' deep I will stay home and be safe. Most vehicles I see in the ditch are four wheel drive or all wheel drive types. Over confidence puts them there. Be safe!
