Congrats!
After 5 months of absolutely trouble free ownership, I still am marveled every time I get into my GT and see the nice aluminum dash, the comfy seats....and that's all before I turn the key......when the sleeping engine rumbles to life. I'm still amazed at the monster torque down low. But, when I do get a chance to "air it out", it becomes absolutely intoxicating as I go past 4K RPM.
The time when I enjoyed it most, however, was taking a trip to the KY Derby this past Spring. Carving the back roads of KY horse farm country and then finding a straightaway, with no one else on the road, caused a bond with this car like none other I've ever owned (and that's quite a few....with a lot of sports cars in the bunch).
More recently, getting 24 MPG on the highway, on REGULAR GAS, has proven to be a winner, too. Who would have "thunk" it....from a muscle V8.
You're gonna love it.
70 MPH or less. Drive in a way that you rarely need to apply the brakes.
In the City, I'm getting between 17 MPG- 19 MPG depending on how many times I put the pedal to the metal. Usually, if I stay at or below 4K RPM, I hit that 17-19 MPG mark.
BTW, Where I work, I actually had "crowds" looking at my car this morning.....UnReal !.
Anyway, lets keep in touch and that maybe we could all meet someday. Would really like to hit the Carlyle thing in PA sometime.
Detailz
We are plannng a trip to Maine so I'll definitely be doing some highway driving where I can get a true measurement of my mpg instead of relying on the info center.
Oh yeah, with almost 15k miles, it gets better every day........
Thanks,
Dr. S
Daniel
Wow. Marvelous. They've invented a device to allow Mustangs to run on pie? That's great! I guess you gotta smoosh 'em up to fit in the little gas fill receptacle... unless this adapter contains a 8" rectangular jobby that accepts the pies whole. Do you need to take them off the little aluminum plate or can you just chuck the whole thing in there? I bet it smells good going down the road.
Sorry... letting off hurricane stress.
Had the MYColor thing send a message that I had enough gas for about 50 miles and it flashed... which is what I guess it is suppose to happen. Still trying to figure out the "color" thing for the dash board guages..............
Really looking forward to a trip into upper NY state and NE next week.......cruising is really what we bought this thing for anyway in the overall scheme of things...Of course...this is... really... MY thing.... as the wife goes along with the flow of things so to speak!....Showed my GT in a large regional auto show yesterday and they insisted that I park this UP FRONT with all the other classic Mustangs....just awsome and am quite humbiled.
I have to believe it's over 190,000 for MY06
That 190,000 '05 unit figure was bumped from planned production of 150,000 '05s.
What we don't know is if Ford backed off the 190,000 production number for '06. I would imagine they did. But, demand cpntinues to be strong for the '06 models.
I would think that Ford would, at the very least, hold to 150,000 range production-wise. If the demand keeps up, maybe they'll even hit the 190,000 mark again.
My guess, they'll settle somewhere in the midde.....maybe 175,000 units? 1/3 of those will be GTs.
'07 brings the GT500 Cobra to market, plus there are some rumors of a Bullett, Mach, or Boss version too. Those should keep the production numbers up.
Unfortunately, the dealers are still bennefitting from more demand than supply. '06 GTs are still a tough find on the dealers' lots. Most are ordering still.
Whenever a dealer does get stock on GTs, they know that they can sell them quickly. There aren't any GTs that linger on the lots very long.
My dealer told me about 6 weeks ago that their allotment for '06 GTs was sold out through January. I suspect that's got to be at least February, maybe March by now. Add 8-10 weeks to the order, and delivery is looking to be sometime next Spring.
Some are getting lucky, though. They hit the dealer at just the right time and snag an ordered GT in 2-3 months. Sometimes, a dealer gets one in that was ordered and the customer canceled. Some people are snagging those quickly, too.
You just have to be vigilent and stay on top of the order with your dealer and their ever changing allotment/stock status.
Good luck with your order.
I know that doesn't make anyone who is without feel any better, and I'm not saying "nah, nah, nah boo-boo", but it may be worth some folks while to drive a little into a larger metro area or check inventories in such areas online (though they tend to be out of date).
I believe some dealers actually pulled and "front loaded" their quarterly orders from winter to fall in order to take advantage of nicer weather in winter climates. But, they sacrificed anyone who may want to buy in the winter months....particularly when the snow starts flying in the Northeast, Northwest and the Midwest. In the Midwest, GTs are still selling as fast as they hit the lots, still.
I suspect this will change come Dec/Jan/Feb and pick up again at the end of March.
I think our hope is that production keeps up with demand for '06 so others can experience this exceptional American car and not be left out (as 13,000 were for the '05 GT).
Bottom line, if you find one you like that is relatively close to what you'll accept, the general rule of thumb is, buy it. If not, you have to order. And, as we've heard, you may be surprised and get it as promised, or as we've seen more often than not, you may not get it at all (or at least wait several months for delivery).
"They've invented a device to allow Mustangs to run on pie? That's great! I guess you gotta smoosh 'em up to fit in the little gas fill receptacle.."
Of course, you only get 3.1415927 miles per pie, at least, that's the theorem!
Sorry, I tried, but I had to get it out of my system
True, but with pie, you can run circles around the competition..... :P
Shaker is a nice factory stereo given the Mustang's price.
But, I just heard a colleagues DVD-A set-up in his Acura TL......MERCY! It's probably the best car stereo I've ever heard......that includes those "thumper" aftermarket jobs.
Just wanted to let you know that my betterhalf and I took a trip this past long weekend throught the Adirondaks and into Vermont with our new ' 06
GT....put on a little over 800 miles on that thing and what a vehicle!!!. You get up into that torrain and it is basically nomands land with nothing but winding roads that go up and down and twist around hills and mountains!...What an absolute RUSH!........saw one other GT near Lake Placid and that was about it for the trip....colors of the trees were magnificent!
Made a couple of comments to my wife that I have always remembered your trip to the KY Derby and thought of your story.......think that I may have done about the same thing with this trip..........
Didn't really keep accurate mpg........... but you know what..... didn't really care too much......................at least on this trip......
You're right....everything just kind of melts away regarding fuel economy when you're on a road trip like you took in the GT. It's a great way to spend time in a spectacular setting, blasting through the mountains.
Great report.
Is there a heated seat option for 06 mustangs?
If not, any after market possibilities?
Meybe, PLEASE, could they call it the Mark IX?
And yes, not having heated seats available at any price is poor planning too. Better yet, heated seats and remote start like most GMs have nowadays.

Seriously - it sounds like your dealer is not properly diagnosing the problem. I would strongly suggest talking to the service manager and giving them one more shot to get it right (also mention the grease, etc.). Then I'd find another dealer. Any ford shop can do the warranty work. And I don't know if this is Ford policy or just my local dealer but I got a free loaner when my son's focus had to go in for warranty service. I was told that loaners were free for the first 1 year/12k miles.
I would indeed talk to Ford Customer Service, also.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Talking to the service manager is an important step. Stay calm, explain everything from start to finish. Then listen. If what he offers doesn't sound good, then demand a loaner and demand it be fixed correctly. You may not have to go that far. A good SM in this case would really listen and then offer you that loaner and probably throw in an oil change. Good SM's are hard to find sometimes.
After work today I'll see if the dealer still has them side by side and try and get a photo for you.
thanks
I liked Sonic Blue to some extent, but don't care for the Vista.
I'd suggest looking at them in person, honestly. Vista comes across on photographs, more or less, but Windveil does not.
I didn't like the new tungsten at dawn/dusk. The lavender tint doesn't do it any favors. The 05's titanium's bronze was nicer to me.
And, black's the best, cause it's what I bought... :shades: You just gotta wash it every weekend, otherwise you feel like a slob.
