You should be able to use a PIE adapter.

Just heard this afternoon that my GT is finally here....after 6 months! I live in WNY and was told that it was being built the week of 9-12. Today is 9-20... pretty good delivery in my opinion. ( Week or so time frame )

That's great news. Now, take the day off and go pick up what will be a great car. Drive it around .....all day long!

    Congrats!

Thanks for the "support" after these LONG 6 months...this Tungsten color with the 18" wheels turned alot of heads on the way home...what an absolutely awsome car!!! Took the p.m. off but will be taking a vac. day within the next few days....Beautiful American Muscle at it's best!!!!. I'll say it again, ... Ford did not hit a home run with this.....they hit a Grand Slam!
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,141
    detailz.....that's great.

After 5 months of absolutely trouble free ownership, I still am marveled every time I get into my GT and see the nice aluminum dash, the comfy seats....and that's all before I turn the key......when the sleeping engine rumbles to life. I'm still amazed at the monster torque down low. But, when I do get a chance to "air it out", it becomes absolutely intoxicating as I go past 4K RPM.

The time when I enjoyed it most, however, was taking a trip to the KY Derby this past Spring. Carving the back roads of KY horse farm country and then finding a straightaway, with no one else on the road, caused a bond with this car like none other I've ever owned (and that's quite a few....with a lot of sports cars in the bunch).

More recently, getting 24 MPG on the highway, on REGULAR GAS, has proven to be a winner, too. Who would have "thunk" it....from a muscle V8.

    You're gonna love it.

How are you getting 24 on the highway :confuse: I'd love to know that trick!
  • lateralglateralg Member Posts: 929
    That's easy.

70 MPH or less. Drive in a way that you rarely need to apply the brakes.
  • cmnottcmnott Member Posts: 200
is 18mpg, 90% city driving. thrilled.
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,141
Yeah....I set the cruise between 70MPH- 75 MPH and regularly get 24 MPG. I actually set the crusie for 60 MPH (due to speed limits) one time and got 25 MPG.

In the City, I'm getting between 17 MPG- 19 MPG depending on how many times I put the pedal to the metal. Usually, if I stay at or below 4K RPM, I hit that 17-19 MPG mark.

For some reason ...whatever it may be... I'm thinkin that there are some people on this site that really don't get it ; not by their fault either.......with me and my lovely wife getting into our twilight years, we can't wait to follow up into a trip in New England to see the fall colors in a couple of weeks.....with the choice of the BEST option of a sports car/ mustle car/ racing car that America has ever built...(for the street)... the Mustang GT has to be the best ever!

BTW, Where I work, I actually had "crowds" looking at my car this morning.....UnReal !.

Anyway, lets keep in touch and that maybe we could all meet someday. Would really like to hit the Carlyle thing in PA sometime.

  • pumpkinfishpumpkinfish Member Posts: 61
Hmm. 70 mph? I drive to work on the PA turnpike and if you go 70, you will be run over :surprise: My wife and I have noticed that over the years the speeds just keep inching up and up. I try for 70 but that is not always doable in my commute.

We are plannng a trip to Maine so I'll definitely be doing some highway driving where I can get a true measurement of my mpg instead of relying on the info center.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
The message centers are very accurate, at least on the Ford products. Normally within 1/2 mpg. Just remember to reset it when you start the trip.
  • strange3strange3 Member Posts: 14
I've been driving my 4L hardtop since January, but can't figure out what the clip on the underside of the lid to the center arm rest is for. Looks like it might be a good place for a pack of tissues or post-its. Anyone know for certain what it's for?

Oh yeah, with almost 15k miles, it gets better every day........

    Thanks,
    Dr. S
  • pumpkinfishpumpkinfish Member Posts: 61
Did you discover that the "floor" to the rear cupholder comes out allowing you to put in taller cups? Seems most people miss that feature. As for the clip I never really thought about what it was designed for.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
If the clip will hold a medium sized paperback book with the center open then it's probably for tissues. If it's smaller then it must be something else. There's nothing in the 06 owner's manual.

I recently developed a problem with my outside drivers side door handle, it seems to not retract properly back into its resting place on its own tension. Does not affect the operation of the door but I have another on order. Ford says there is a little wait on the part because of back order, wondering if any of you have experienced the same thing?

"You should be able to use a PIE adapter."
Wow. Marvelous. They've invented a device to allow Mustangs to run on pie? That's great! I guess you gotta smoosh 'em up to fit in the little gas fill receptacle... unless this adapter contains a 8" rectangular jobby that accepts the pies whole. Do you need to take them off the little aluminum plate or can you just chuck the whole thing in there? I bet it smells good going down the road.

    Sorry... letting off hurricane stress.

    Hi All:

Had the MYColor thing send a message that I had enough gas for about 50 miles and it flashed... which is what I guess it is suppose to happen. Still trying to figure out the "color" thing for the dash board guages..............

Really looking forward to a trip into upper NY state and NE next week.......cruising is really what we bought this thing for anyway in the overall scheme of things...Of course...this is... really... MY thing.... as the wife goes along with the flow of things so to speak!....Showed my GT in a large regional auto show yesterday and they insisted that I park this UP FRONT with all the other classic Mustangs....just awsome and am quite humbiled.

Anyone know what the 05 production tally was? and what they forecast for 06?
    I have to believe it's over 190,000 for MY06
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,141
Production was around 190,000 units for '05. OF that, about 33% were GTs (or about 62,000-63,000).

That 190,000 '05 unit figure was bumped from planned production of 150,000 '05s.

What we don't know is if Ford backed off the 190,000 production number for '06. I would imagine they did. But, demand cpntinues to be strong for the '06 models.

I would think that Ford would, at the very least, hold to 150,000 range production-wise. If the demand keeps up, maybe they'll even hit the 190,000 mark again.

My guess, they'll settle somewhere in the midde.....maybe 175,000 units? 1/3 of those will be GTs.

'07 brings the GT500 Cobra to market, plus there are some rumors of a Bullett, Mach, or Boss version too. Those should keep the production numbers up.

Thanks for the info, I'm waiting on my 06 GT that was ordered 9/02/05, looks like late spring due to allotment.
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,141
That sounds about right for delivery on an ordered car.

Unfortunately, the dealers are still bennefitting from more demand than supply. '06 GTs are still a tough find on the dealers' lots. Most are ordering still.

Whenever a dealer does get stock on GTs, they know that they can sell them quickly. There aren't any GTs that linger on the lots very long.

My dealer told me about 6 weeks ago that their allotment for '06 GTs was sold out through January. I suspect that's got to be at least February, maybe March by now. Add 8-10 weeks to the order, and delivery is looking to be sometime next Spring.

Some are getting lucky, though. They hit the dealer at just the right time and snag an ordered GT in 2-3 months. Sometimes, a dealer gets one in that was ordered and the customer canceled. Some people are snagging those quickly, too.

You just have to be vigilent and stay on top of the order with your dealer and their ever changing allotment/stock status.

    Good luck with your order.

Availablity can really depend on your market. They're actually pretty easy to get in Houston, TX. I've seen one at a dealership every day on my commute for the past two weeks. Another I saw on that same lot had lasted about three weeks, right when they came out in mid-August. I ordered an '06 from a different dealer in late July and was sitting in it in early September (I'd noticed the other GT because it was killing me that they had a Tungsten already and I was waiting on a Black... glad I waited). It's more of a hunt to find a dealer who will honor X-Plan than it is to find a dealer who will have a GT on the lot.

I know that doesn't make anyone who is without feel any better, and I'm not saying "nah, nah, nah boo-boo", but it may be worth some folks while to drive a little into a larger metro area or check inventories in such areas online (though they tend to be out of date).
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,141
mojo...from all reports, availability is still "sketchy" depending on the geographic area. Some dealers will have 4,5 or 6 GTs in stock one week....and then none to be found for more than a month.

I believe some dealers actually pulled and "front loaded" their quarterly orders from winter to fall in order to take advantage of nicer weather in winter climates. But, they sacrificed anyone who may want to buy in the winter months....particularly when the snow starts flying in the Northeast, Northwest and the Midwest. In the Midwest, GTs are still selling as fast as they hit the lots, still.

I suspect this will change come Dec/Jan/Feb and pick up again at the end of March.

I think our hope is that production keeps up with demand for '06 so others can experience this exceptional American car and not be left out (as 13,000 were for the '05 GT).

Bottom line, if you find one you like that is relatively close to what you'll accept, the general rule of thumb is, buy it. If not, you have to order. And, as we've heard, you may be surprised and get it as promised, or as we've seen more often than not, you may not get it at all (or at least wait several months for delivery).

Of course, you only get 3.1415927 miles per pie, at least, that's the theorem!

What if any equalization settings are there on them? ie like the chevy's has - pop, classical, jazz, country, rock, ect.. (I don't have tha car yet).
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,141
No equalization settings....just bass & treble (which is just fine by me....I never liked any of those "pre-selected" equalizers, anyway.

Shaker is a nice factory stereo given the Mustang's price.

But, I just heard a colleagues DVD-A set-up in his Acura TL......MERCY! It's probably the best car stereo I've ever heard......that includes those "thumper" aftermarket jobs.

    Hey Graphicguy.......

Just wanted to let you know that my betterhalf and I took a trip this past long weekend throught the Adirondaks and into Vermont with our new ' 06
GT....put on a little over 800 miles on that thing and what a vehicle!!!. You get up into that torrain and it is basically nomands land with nothing but winding roads that go up and down and twist around hills and mountains!...What an absolute RUSH!........saw one other GT near Lake Placid and that was about it for the trip....colors of the trees were magnificent!

Made a couple of comments to my wife that I have always remembered your trip to the KY Derby and thought of your story.......think that I may have done about the same thing with this trip..........

Didn't really keep accurate mpg........... but you know what..... didn't really care too much......................at least on this trip......
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,141
detailz.....it's got to be absolutely glorious about right now out east. I used to spend a lot of time in the Boston area a few years ago for work. This was my favorite time of year. I can only imagine what it's like in the Andirondacks :shades:

You're right....everything just kind of melts away regarding fuel economy when you're on a road trip like you took in the GT. It's a great way to spend time in a spectacular setting, blasting through the mountains.

    Great report.

It has Driver seat, Rear seats, All seats. It's not the typical equilization, rather it changes the "imaging" effect of the music. I usually leave mine on the Driver seat selection unless I have my passenger, then I set it to All seats. It's a neat gimmick, but not much use to it.
  • whskvswhskvs Member Posts: 28
Haved checked the specs, but don't see this option so I thought I would confirm.

Is there a heated seat option for 06 mustangs?

If not, any after market possibilities?
  • baggs32baggs32 Member Posts: 3,229
Rumors flying around on a dedicated Mustang forum indicate they will be available for 2007 along with a slight boost in power and a slight suspension modification. Take that with a grain of salt though.
  • whskvswhskvs Member Posts: 28
Thanks baggs. That may help me decide to buy now instead of lease and trade up on 07 for heated seats.

There is news about ford making a lincoln coupe based on the mustang platform, does anyoneknow anything about this??? If true, I hope lincoln won't screw up the name like they did with the "mark LT" when it should have been the "Navigator LT".

Meybe, PLEASE, could they call it the Mark IX?
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
At this point it's just a couple of reports that they're considering it, which probably means there will be a concept car at some point to gauge reaction. I'm sure it will continue the Lincoln tradition of using the Mark name for their 2 door coupes if it's produced.

I just tried to build my stang at Ford's site. I wanted the best performing V6 I could build. Hence the tighter susp. and bigger wheels in the Pony Package were desirable. But as soon as I did that I was forced to take the automatic transmission. Is the site screwed up or do I have to choose between a Stick, 16" wheels, and soft susp. OR an Auto with 17"s and a bit firmer? Seems very silly.

And yes, not having heated seats available at any price is poor planning too. Better yet, heated seats and remote start like most GMs have nowadays.

  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
That's either an error in the website or a temporary restriction. It doesn't mention that in the options section on the Ford website or in the other online price and build site. You could also check with a dealer.

I've had nothing but problems with my Mustang, and this sucks because I love the car. I have a 05 Windveil blue, with Blk racing stripes. I was driving down 95 and it just starting makin a loud humming noise and it just broke! The whole thing just shut down... well the tow truck came.. the next day they told me it was the axel seal that had broke and all the oil came out, so the components were burnt. Well, after a week I finally got it back, and youll never believe this but the next day i was driving and it happened again! this time smoke was coming from the left rear by the tire, so Tow truck came, and the next day ford told me that it was the brake caliber that was sticking and cause the axel seal to brake. I got it back and it is starting to have problems again, when I go over 60mph it starts making that same humming noise very loudly. I cant take it in because I dont have another car to drive and the dealer ship wouldnt give me a loaner (Bob Bell, glen burnie) Also they scratched my door handle all up, and there is a huge paint chip on the edge of the door, and the car stinks like gease inside. I am calling the main ford line today and hopefully they can help me with all of this. Something tht I cant understand is if all the problems were in the back end of the car then why was the under the hood smoking? Also they was liquid on the ground, dead center, I thougth aaxel seal wa sby the tire? I dont I guess because im a women they are tired to mess with me?

Sorry about my spelling, everyone im on lunch brake, just trying to type really fast :)
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Lunch brake - is that similar to the parking brake?

Seriously - it sounds like your dealer is not properly diagnosing the problem. I would strongly suggest talking to the service manager and giving them one more shot to get it right (also mention the grease, etc.). Then I'd find another dealer. Any ford shop can do the warranty work. And I don't know if this is Ford policy or just my local dealer but I got a free loaner when my son's focus had to go in for warranty service. I was told that loaners were free for the first 1 year/12k miles.
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,141
Just to reiterate what akirby said, I'd give your dealership one more shot. I'd talk to the service mangr and INSIST on them giving you a loaner car while repairs are made due to the poor service done so far.

I would indeed talk to Ford Customer Service, also.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Good luck Kristin. I tried to get quality service and got nowhere with my 99 SVT Contour. Tried three different Ford dealers and two different LM's (since they know the car, a la Mystique). Grease on interior door panels... interior trim pieces left hanging in the wind... hood scratched... mis-diagnosed front end noise causing $600 of unnecessary repair (inner tie rod ends)... took 3 trips to figure out my rear sway bar bushings had hardened and that was a causing a rear end noise...

Talking to the service manager is an important step. Stay calm, explain everything from start to finish. Then listen. If what he offers doesn't sound good, then demand a loaner and demand it be fixed correctly. You may not have to go that far. A good SM in this case would really listen and then offer you that loaner and probably throw in an oil change. Good SM's are hard to find sometimes. :(
  • kristinjkristinj Member Posts: 4
Thanks everyone for the advice, I did call FORD today and told them everything.I was told that the Assit Service manager wants me to make an appt to get a loaner, and then theyll take a look at the problem. :lemon:

I am about to purchase a 2006 Mustang, they offer 2 shades of blue. Windviel and Vista. Ive seen the Windviel, but have not seen the Vista. The Windviel may be too light, but from the pictures Ive seen the Vista may be too dark. I'd like recommendations from anybody who has seen both blue's. Even though its subjective, does one of the blue's look much better on the mustang? Thanks.
  • pumpkinfishpumpkinfish Member Posts: 61
My dealer has both blues sitting next to each other in the V6 flavor. Side by side I prefer the Vista Blue. If you have seen Sonic Blue in person, it is similar to that but without the "purpleness". My wife likes the Windviel, which I think is close to a classic Mustang color from the 70's. So from my unscientific poll it is 50% :P

After work today I'll see if the dealer still has them side by side and try and get a photo for you.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
I like the Windveil personally. Vista is still dark blue just not as purplish. But then I also like Legend Lime. I think it looks good in the lighter colors.
  • mcbuckstermcbuckster Member Posts: 32
Which colors on the 2006 mustang would hide small dings, and scratches? I like the Vista Blue but am afraid that it might show everything, like black does.

    thanks
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
White, tungsten or silver will hide dirt and scratches the most. The darker the color the worse they will show. Black is obviously the worst followed closely by redfire, torch red and vista blue. The pastel colors (windveil blue, legend lime) and yellow should be in between.
  • mojojojo24mojojojo24 Member Posts: 24
I like the Windveil a lot... both at dawn/dusk and midday. Don't know why, but it just looks great in the coupe form. I don't like the color in the convertible, though. The different colored rag just doesn't agree with me.

I liked Sonic Blue to some extent, but don't care for the Vista.

I'd suggest looking at them in person, honestly. Vista comes across on photographs, more or less, but Windveil does not.

I didn't like the new tungsten at dawn/dusk. The lavender tint doesn't do it any favors. The 05's titanium's bronze was nicer to me.

And, black's the best, cause it's what I bought... :shades: You just gotta wash it every weekend, otherwise you feel like a slob.
