Actually, for some odd reason, I'm attracted to the Legend Lime. Sure would like to see a Highland Green Bullitt edition (or maybe even a Grabber Orange - some good 'classic' colors).

Is there anyplace we can see a breakdown on '05 production by color - and perhaps a to-date breakdown for the '06?
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
I don't think they publish those statistics.
  • rorrrorr Member Posts: 3,630
Pity. I've noticed the selection of Legend Lime cars is, uhhh, pretty tight. Sure seems to be lots of silver/gray/light blue Mustangs running around though......

About four weeks ago, I took delivery on a 06 Tungsten Gray GT and I must say that I am very impressed with the color. I originally had order the 05 in Torchfire (?) Red but when I saw this new color available for 06, I had my order changed. Yes, it does give off a "purplelly" tinge at sunset and a dark gray appearance on overcast days...however, on bright or sunny days, I really think it is just a wonderful color........almost a silver "metalflake". I also saw the new blue for 06 and this also has a "metalflake" look to it. try bradbarnett.net to see some pics of the new stangs...

On the way home this pm, came to an intersection where someone had one of those foreign import wannabees that has a huge exhaust pipe that sounds like a sickly bumble bee..................I lit up the tires of my GT with a mighty roar.... went around him in an instant.... and smiled the rest of the way home................... ;)

My local dealer (Fort Collins, CO) has four GTs on the lot and 10-15 V6s. Looks like it may be getting easier to get one and perhaps get a deal on them at some point. Drove a convertible GT, would like to drive the coupe. I like the looks of the coupe better, but there are those days when a covertible makes it better.
  • pumpkinfishpumpkinfish Member Posts: 61
Sorry McBuckster, no picture. When I got to the dealer either they sold the Vista or it was on test drive.

I have seen all the colors in person and own satin silver. It is great for hiding the dirt and lets me skate by an extra week without washing ;)

I personally like the Legend Lime color. I never did like green colored autos, but something about LL in person is awesome! I was one of the few who was able to walk on a lot back in April and get a GT (no markups either and $500 off) so I got what they had...a satin silver GT. It was my wife's wedding present to me, so I wasn't turing it down :shades:

As for popularity, I visit a couple of Mustang messageboards, and usually see black, redfire and sonic blue cars posted. White and silver are the least posted colors. Yellow and lime seem to have cult followings with Legend Lime having perhaps the biggest cult. This color breakdown is provided by my very unscientific analysis...my memory :P

edited to add: My dealer as of yesterday only had 4 V6's and no GT's.

Thanks pumpkinfish. Does anybody have pictures of Vista blue? And even Windveil blue? Ive searched the net with no luck. I'd like to see a few pictures of each color if possible.

    Thanks.

(I checked my local dealers and none of them have either blue mustang available to take a look at).

But those new 18" s don't work on that car. Not that the 17" polished aluminums were great, but those look boring to me.
  • mcbuckstermcbuckster Member Posts: 32
I like the Windveil, not as light/pastel as I thought. And I like the wheels, are they standard with the pony package? thanks for the pict's
  • jimmira76jimmira76 Member Posts: 19
    bxd,
Yes it is silly but for some reason you cannot have a pony package v6 w/manual transmission. I'll be buying one soon & in my research & talks with some dealers that's what's been indicated. Hopefully that'll change soon though....
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
I wonder if it's a temporary condition due to a shortage of manuals. I can't imagine this being a permanent restriction.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Yes, those are the Pony package wheels.

I like the Lime more on the convertibles than the coupes. There's a guy in the area with an '05 Lime V6 coupe that looks great. He added some side tape-stripes that actually came off classy and he put chrome frames on his tail-lights... it just works. It's more subtle than it sounds.

I don't know why some colors look better as coupes or convertibles to me... maybe I'm just nuts.

I tried my darndest to get a highland green '06 (it's just beautiful paint... even on my old, beat up F-150), but Ford wasn't willing to do it, and short of taking it to a paint shop, it ain't happening. And, there's no reason to repaint my perfectly-fine paint job, anyway.
  • rorrrorr Member Posts: 3,630
"I tried my darndest to get a highland green '06...."

Well, IMO Ford has DEFINTE plans for a new Bullitt edition and they want to reserve that color for the Bullitt car.

When? I dunno, maybe '07?. But that's my theory and I'm stickin' to it......

You're are right about that color being beautiful.....of course, I might be a bit biased. That's the color (color code 'R' - Ivy Green) I've painted my '66 fastback..... :shades:
  • rblelandrbleland Member Posts: 312
I own a '01 Bullitt Mustang. It may be that Ford has "plans" for a future Bullitt special using the new body style and I think it would be sharp; BUT, there are serious problems to creating a new Bullitt - Ford "promised" they would only do it one time and that promise included the McQueen Estate who are definitely involved; plus there are royalties involved to both Warner Bros. and McQueen Estate and there is talk that such royalties could be very large this time (reasonable on the 2001 one).

IMO the likelihood is far greater to see a Boss and/or another Mach 1 edition long before a new Bullitt will happen.
  • rorrrorr Member Posts: 3,630
Hadn't considered the royalties issue and what it might mean to a future Bullitt edition. Excellent point.

But, if that's the case, why not just go ahead and offer Highland Green on the current models now?

I think most would consider it to be a terrific color (Motortrend even did a 'Bullitt recreation' a few months ago where they pitted a Mustang GT against the new Dodge Charger - and got Ford to one-off a Highland Green Mustang GT. The car really looks sharp in that color).

Too late - Chip Foose and Unique Performance already did it. They call it the Stallion - Eleanor's big brother:

  • pumpkinfishpumpkinfish Member Posts: 61
I think Cervini's Elanor body kit looks better than Foose's Stallion design. I think Foose is over extendeding himself and his designs are not as inspired as they once were. Still, I would take this Stang just to stand out from the crowd :shades:

I have been loooking at getting anew mustang for about 2 months, I almost have the deposit I need. I have been to a few different dealers and told them "I know what I want and if you cant get it, Im leaving." Of course, they can all "get it." The thing is, I want a Legend Lime V8 and I havent seen but 2-4 on different lots. All have been 6s, with one 8. What is the deal with this color?? The dealers all say they can get it, but why cant I find one???
  • pumpkinfishpumpkinfish Member Posts: 61
mustangnikki22, I think LL is the least produced color. From all the different Mustang boards I visit, it seems that reds and blacks dominate. The Legend Lime and Yellow seem to be the least amount.

I found this info below from www.legendlimeregistry.com and don't know how accurate it is. I copy and pasted it exactly as it appeared. Enjoy!

    160,412 Total- 2005 Model Year

    Legend Lime: 7,741 (4.8%)

    Black: 29,335 (18.3%)
    Satin Silver: 21,194 (13.2%)
    Torch Red : 20,110 (12.5%)
    Redfire: 18,627 (11.6%)
    Mineral Grey: 16,590 (10.3%)
    White: 14,890 (9.3%)
    Windveil Blue: 14,393 (9.0%)
    Sonic Blue: 9,094 (5.7%)
    Yellow: 8,483 (5.3%)

    GTs: 60,605 (37.8%)
    V6s: 99,807 (62.2%)

If you really want a legend lime GT why not just order one? You'd probably have it by now if you'd ordered it when you started looking.
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,140
I'm with akirby. If there's something specific you like, just order one.

Your problem is less about the color you want and more about the availability of the GTs. For the most part (and depending on your geographic location), the Mustang GTs are still in short supply.

    Good luck.

I'm looking to put window tinting and vinyl racing stripes on my 06' GT. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good graphics shop in NJ ?
  • whskvswhskvs Member Posts: 28
Do they not make the convertible with a 5 speed straight shift?
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
If you mean manual, of course they do. There was a report that the V6 pony package could not be ordered with a manual right now - not sure why.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
It's in fine print in a footnote in the order guide but it does say "V6 Pony Package not available with V6 Convertible with Manual Transmission". It does show available on the V6 Coupe.

in ATL area online inventory are automatics, so that's what led me to that assumption.

    Thanks again...

    NIKKI,
I walked into a Ford dealer last Saturday and drove away with a Legend Lime GT V8 5-speed that afternoon. Not that it's always easy, but any dealer can do a computer search for the car you're seeking, and if it's within a reasonable radius, a driver can have it to you within hours.
Lacking such success, as others have said, order what you want and you should have it within 6-8 weeks.
BTW, the LL color is fantastic!

IMHO I found LL to be a little to avocado a' la 1970s kitchen appliances.

I think Vista Blue is the best color followed by Red Fire, if you like bright colors and Tungsten is kick a** as well.

I'd love to see the Mazda color "Velocity Red" on a Mustang

What are those little round, about 1/4", doodads on the corners of the map light console (lights in the center front up above the rearview)? They look like tiny speakers.

BTW, only complaint I have about my new GT is that traffic is too slow! This car is a gas to drive!
  • artgartg Member Posts: 7
Blue and red on the Mustang look great, but so does the lime judging by all the car compliments I've received. The "Legend" in Legend Lime of course refers to it as an original 1960s Mustang color. Lots of blues and reds on the road, but LL is attractive AND unique to this new breed of pony.
  • pumpkinfishpumpkinfish Member Posts: 61
I agree that LL is the best. When I bought mine, Satin Silver was the only GT on the lot so I had no choice but take it. I was too late to order a Sonic Blue or LL plus it was my wife's wedding gift to me, so she wanted me to have it immediately. As for the blues, I like Sonic Blue better than the Vista Blue or Windveil. In the reds, I think that the Torch looks better than Redfire.

Artg, did you see the post I made a couple weeks ago (post 1729)? I had posted the breakdown of colors manufactured across all trim levels and total LL manufactured was only 4% give or take which was the lowest amount produced. You truly do have a "rare" pony ;)
  • artgartg Member Posts: 7
    PFish:
Appreciate your opinion. Yes, I did see your post revealing that Legend Lime was the least produced color.
BTW, congratulations on your marriage. What a great wedding gift. Says a lot about your wife.
  • whskvswhskvs Member Posts: 28
have seen a picture of them on an '06 GT vert on a lot online, but my dealer is saying they aren't available 'til spring.

    What's the real story?

Is the 4.10 gear available from the factory or only after market? I did not see it listed as a factory option on the Ford site only in the Ford Racing after market parts. Thanks for any replies.
  • mschmalmschmal Member Posts: 1,757
The doodads near the map lights are sensors for the upgraded alarm system.
  • pumpkinfishpumpkinfish Member Posts: 61
maxcat2, 4.10 is aftermarket only AFAIK. I have not seen them listed as an option. Going racing? I am persoanlly torn what gears to intall. I am saving for a supercharger and think the 4.10 gears may be too much combined with it. I am thinking 3.73 might be a better fit.

I had my new GT "professionally" waxed not too long ago and noticed that there was some wax residue on the "rubber" portions around the windows...any idea how to get this off?
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,140
Believe it or not, take some peanut butter and put it on a toothbrush to scrub the "wax residue" from the rubber.

  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
WD40 should also work, although it won't taste nearly as good as peanut butter.

It's the oil in the peanut butter that does the job.
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,140
Yep.....WD40 is probably the better solution. But who wants to smell oil vs peanut butter on their moldings...... :P

It seems as though the new Mustang won't be the only Ford that will be raced in sports car racing. The new Mustang races in the GS class of Grand-Am Cup and the new GT will be run by a privateer next year in the GT class of the Speed World Challenge.

When will the Mustang get the new 3.5 liter V-6?
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
At least 2-3 years away, if then. It will go in the new CD3 cars/crossovers first (fusion/milan/zephyr/aviator/edge) followed by the 500/Montego.
  • detailzdetailz Member Posts: 47
Actually, I had a chance to look further and it appears to be hard plastic and not rubber (bezel around side windows)...any further thoughts....and not jelly I hope.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
I'd still try WD40. If that doesn't work try a clay bar or bug and tar remover.
  • pony_piratepony_pirate Member Posts: 317
Basic rule of chemistry: like dissolves like. I would assume wax is an oil-based substance. Therefore, it should be soluble in oil. I would try baby oil or olive oil or other type of cooking oil to remove the wax. You could then remove any excess oil with rubbing alcohol or just a dry cloth. If the wax, however, has somehow interacted with the dye in the sealer, stained it, I would doubt there's any way to reverse the damage.

Btw, I'm still learning the secrets of my GT Premium. That sucker can do 50 mph in second, no let up, no strain ... seemingly endless torque.
