I was already a Verizon customer (years and years--from Cellular One to Airtouch to Verizon), too. I didn't look into pricing before going (since the V710 is the only bluetooth Verizon offers--it was take-it-or-leave-it).
I was surprised at the price when I finally signed on the bottom line. Then she then told me to get the $50 rebate I needed the UPC label, so be sure I wanted to keep the phone before I tried to redeem it.
Maybe they made a mistake, or maybe they are trying to move the phone given the bad reputation it is giving them (lawsuit and all, you know).
Richcream, based upon your posts it looks like you got your car in NYC area. I live in the area and trying to find a good dealership to work with to get the M35x. Can you tell me what dealership you went through and town they are in? thanks.
Hey m35girl, you are absolutely correct. This guy has posted some of the same tripe on Autospies.com. The reference to safety concerns and the active head-restraint are exactly as he/she has posted there. He did, however, spare everybody the reference to :Japanese death traps" that he used on Autospies. He is extremely smart because he buys only German and Swedish products and is therefore safer.
When I posted recent safety results from the IIHS indicating that the Japanese had 7 of the 13 safest cars tested I did not see a response from him. Interestingly enough, the Infiniti G20, the old small 4-door sedan was by far the safest in its class (deaths per registered year model). Most Infiniti, Nissan, Lexus, and Toyota models scored much higher in safety results than the venerable BMW and Volvo.
The only thing I can commend him on is that he was smart enough to indicate that he has owned the car less than a year since it was just released. Not smart enough, however, to be convincing that he would own a car that he describes as bulbous, atrocious, tacky, etc. The things people do for kicks. :::shrugging shoulders:::
I replaced a tire that was ruined by a small nail in the side wall of my new M45 Sport. I got the tire from the dealer and paid just under $400 for the tire including tax and labor. I see one can be ordered for about $70 less but didnt want to wait since I didnt feel like driving it on the baby spare. I hope tires come down in price, I knew they would be fairly expensive, ie over $200, but was way low in my estimate.
OK- so many getting the M will be getting satellite radio for the first time.
It seems that almost all the cars are XM now. There are many promotions to join XM or sirius and get varying rebates or discounts. With the M, I think you get activation and 3 months free. So does that mean that there is no promotion available for subscription or extra portable units?
I think the spare situation is scry. If you are on a trip and have to replace your tire, good luck as they are almost impossible to find without special ordering. If you are lucky enough to find a dealer, prepare to pay the going price.
I have xenon headlights on my M35. I also have them on a second car, different brand. The difference is on the M35, the headlights are aimed very low. This may keep the glare out of the eyes of on coming traffic, but it illuminates a relatively small distance down the road. My other vehicle gives significantly greater range.
Are my beams aimed unusually low or is this the way it's designed?
I agree, I had to wait a day to get the tire and even then it was not certain it would come that fast (or should they have said, slowly). This is what occurred in Houston, so imagine a smaller town or remote location while on a trip. Does anyone have the full size spare? I understand it reduces the trunk space significantly (something like from 14 to 11 SF. I assume I can add a full size spare now if I am willing to give up that trunk space.
I'm waiting for my Sirius to be installed so I can't comment from experience, but.......
As is my custom (a blessing and a curse), I researched the bejesus out of the XM/Sirius thing. There are a great many recent articles on the subject (see Consumer Reports, Cigar, AAA magazine, and many others). My conclusion: you can't go wrong with either. I chose Sirius primarily because it has national NPR and play by play college/NFL football and college hoop. Also, Sirius has a channel called, I believe, "Sirius Disorder", which I understand is kind of a free-form, eclectic mix of high quality music from all genres--hopefully it's exactly the kind of channel that will keep me from sweating over my 6 CD selection at any given time. I suppose I'm a little biased against XM due to the fact that it's owned by GM, but that's just me.
I had the dealer throw in the installation for free, and I get three months free, $12.95 thereafter. XM is $3 less/month.
I have also had Verizon since the Cellular One/Airtouch days (1995?), and overall I've been happy with the service itself. However, I have never been happy with Verizon's selection of phones. Now, we know that Verizon is cheating the consumer by advertising a Bluetooth-enabled phone then disabling the majority of its capabilities for the purpose of charging the customer for services that would otherwise be free. To top it off, Verizon's PR talking head basically had a "so what?" attitude about the whole deal.
I'm hoping Cingular picks up the Moto A630 in the next month or two--if not, I'll pickp up a Razr. Either way, I'm switching my service. I doubt the coverrage will be as good as Verizon's, but I want full Bluetooth functionality and a more reasonably priced plan. Screw Verizon.
This kind of thing is hardly new. While forums can be a great place for actual debate and useful discussion, there are always people that will post rediculous statements about products they dont own just to make them look bad. In Japan the RL is the Honda Legend. That doesnt make it a "Honda rebadge" because its sold in America under the Acura name.
Sticker on door sill reads "Manufactured by NISSAN MOTOR CO."
That is the genius statement of the century. There IS NO "Infiniti motor co." or "Lexus motor co." these are BRANDS. That would be like getting upset because the Coca-cola company is listed as the maker on a bottle of Sprite.

It's the way they are designed. The M has self-leveling headlights like most of the German brands. For a long period of time, the Germans were the only ones spending the extra money to put the self-levelers in.
For those of us who have come to appreciate XID headlights it's an important feature because there have been many legislators who have questioned whether the lights should be allowed. While I doubt it would happen, I'd hate to see Xenons go away because of the glare cheap ones cause to oncoming drivers.
------------------ Buddy of mine has e BMW545 and shopped the segment pretty hard...sasy nav is the coolest, most informative and useful he's ever seen..would agree... ------------------
IMHO this statement destroys any credibility you may have had. Unless, that is, you don't have NAV and never looked at the M's nav.
IMO, the M's nav absolutely destroys any BMW nav I have ever seen.
If you do have Nav and actually DO have an M pray tell, how the BMW's nav out does it.
My 2 cents on the xenon headlights is that they make the adaptive lighting almost redundant. They illuminate so far out to the side that I can barely tell the headlights are turning with the wheels.
I dealt with 3 dealerships: Atlantic Infiniti in Lynbrook, Infiniti of Massapequa, and Competition Infiniti in Smithtown.
Although it's the farthest from my home, I ended up buying from Smithtown because they put the best deal on the table.
Smithtown is the largest Infiniti dealer in the area (although, I think Brooklyn is just about the same size) so they may be more willing/able to deal. Atlantic was a close second, and I wouldn't even bother visiting Massapequa if I were you, based on my experience. If you want specifics feel free to email me.
I'm looking at an M35 and an '06 BMW 330i. The Infiniti is more plush and more car for the money, but the BMW is also awesome. A friend of mine who has owned many German cars suggests the Infiniti. Reason being the complexity of German electronic and onboard computing has meant reliability suffers and repairs are through the roof? Any thoughts here? Particularly those who've switched from German cars to the M35.
I ordered the M35x, w/Journey, Tech in late February, so the order was supposedly submitted by the dealer March1. I was told 12-14 weeks for it to arrive,so I'm looking for it sometime in the first half of June. I was wondering if anyone else who ordered in the same time frame was told anything different and if anyone has heard how Infiniti is doing with their orders,( i.e. on time/late or maybe AHEAD of schedule). I'm tired of just reading posts about how everyone else is enjoying their M, while still waiting for mine!!
I was told to NOT get too impatient because a delivery lead of up to 110 days is not out of the question. The order window, for some reason, only opens once a month, at the beginning of the month, so I'm told.
So, if your order your car on May 11th, the order is actually not placed until the first open day in June. Then plus about 90 -110 days and there you have it.
Other than the only one time per month deal, this doesn't seem all that out of line.
XM raised their prices and is now the samd as Sirius on a month-to-month basis. Both offer discounts for longer term contracts. Sirius also offers a lifetime subscription for $499.00 but they may be ending that soon. That's a good deal if you plan to keep your car for more than 3 years.. Both also offer discounts for a second receiver. Check out their web sites for pricing.
The choice between them is mostly subjective based on taste. XM has a significant lead in the market probably due to its initial lower pricing but they had ads on their music stations to support that pricing. Sirius also offered all subscribers free streaming to their computer for which XM formerly charged extra. Now that they have dropped the ads, included the streaming, and raised the cost per month Sirius can actually be cheaper depending on the plan you choose.
I have Sirius at home and plan to order Sirius when I order my M since I'm familiar with the channel lineup and can take advantage of the 2nd unit discount.
Yup. I replaced a rear tire at 2 weeks. Dealer said I must have run over a pot-hole or a metal construction grate. No flat but the tire deeloped a bulge in the side-wall. Tire replaced because a tire road hazard warranty I bought. Plan was expensive (about $560) but will pay for itself the next time I have a tire problem. It also covers the wheels, no small thing.
I generally never buy extended warranty type programs but feel that the plans for tires and wheels may make sense for these low-profile tires. I would rather have uglier, standard tires, that hold up better but seeing that this is a part of the M look I would not switch (no economic sense to replace four tires and wheels and would probably throw off computer). I have heard that the problem is with low-profile tires themselves and not specific to whatever brand Infiniti is using. The rims also become more susceptible to damage. Be very careful about parking next to a curb. The low-profile tire will put the rim at a perfect level to get banged up against the curb.
I guess all of this is what goes along with a $50K car. I do not think it is any different for the competition.
The reliability of both BMW and Mercedes over the last few years has been terrible. They still make nice looking cars, with great engines, but the electronics are causing many, many problems.
I myself have had 4 Benzes (SLK, old E, ML and new E), my boss had 2 BMW 745's, and all of our cars have spent a good part of there life at the dealership.
I just got the Infiniti M35, and can't say enough about it. However, there are differences and I guess it depends on how detailed you are, the lack of a driver side antiglare mirror is a complete surprise to me, as well as the fact that the doors don’t auto lock when you start driving, and unlock when you turn the car off. And it is really annoying having the car decide what I can’t do while driving, and worse, what my passenger can’t do while I’m driving (I’d be okay if they tied some of the features to the passenger airbag weight sensor).
However, this is the first car I’ve had since 1998 that has not gone back to the dealership during the first week of ownership.
------------------ Uh, I believe he was saying the "M's" nav was the coolest. ------------------
Yes he was and, in case you missed it, I did apologize and my apology stands.
Note, however, that he edited his message after I responded. His original message was exactly as I quoted it, and thus my interpretation understandable IMO. I'm chalking it up to a reasonable misunderstanding.

I don't think you mean that statement as it sounds. Of course, there will be specific disappointments with every car, but it sounds like you're saying that if you're detail oriented you might be happier with a BMW. (I suspect that's not what you mean.)
I'm incredibly detail oriented, and that's exactly why I love Infiniti so much. My sense is that no comparable car comes close to infiniti in overall feature depth and detail. (Least of all a BMW) You'll be discovering wonderful and amazing features throughout the life of your car. I'm sure you already have.
I am seriously considering jumping to a new M35 from an 04 Acura TL. I have had numerous problems with rattles, squeaks and vibrations to the point of frustration. I've searched this forum but cannot find any posts on this.
Anyone care to comment on his experience thus far?
What I mean is that the difference between the various cars really comes down to how detailed you are. Some people might get in the car and simply not notice the differences, for example in the Mercedes I can program whatever I like whenever I like. I don't have to click OK to accept the warning every single time I start the car (I still get a warning though).
I agree there are far more features in the Infiniti than in the BMW or Mercedes, but that doesn't mean that every feature in the BMW or Merc is in the Infiniti (and vice versa). For example the voice recognition is head and shoulders better than BMW or Mercedes. The navigation system is better on the M than in any previous car I’ve seen but it isn’t without its issues. My car seems to only want to be on a street, so when I’m in the parking lot of my office or apartment complex, the car tries to snap to the closest street which throws off the navigation system on occasion (rather than accepting that you are near the street your meant to be on, it snaps to the next closest street, causing a route recalculation that isn’t needed).
Mercedes (and I believe BMW) have a nice turn signal feature where you just briefly touch the control stalk and the signal indicates goes off three times (usually more than enough to pass).
They are different cars; I’m trying to say that if you are switching from a BMW or Mercedes, you may have some disappointments depending on how detailed you are. Of course, I believe you will have far more pleasant surprise and a better overall experience (for example, things on the Infiniti just seem to work).
as pete already said, the M and now dead I35 have nothing to do with each other. Even cars that are related, such as the ES300 and RX300, have quite a difference in turning radius.
. . .but, the M cannot be programmed to lock the doors once underway and unlock when you remove the key (or something similar?) is this correct?
It is OK with me -- my Audi locks its doors when it wants to and unlocks them when it wants to. No rhyme or reason. My last Audi would alwasy lock at about 15 MPH and unlock when I removed the key.
My buddy has a BMW and he had the auto lock feature tied to his key turned off -- he doesn't want the car doing things -- he wants to tell it when.
I think on the M, you have to lock and unlock the car manually. There appears to be no drive away locking (on my Benz, you can disable it, but standard it locks the car at 9mph).
When I get the time I will read the entire manual, and hopefully discover that it is a user error, and that it really is supported.
The literature on the M says that a full size spare reduces trunk space. I mentioned this to the dealer and he showed me a car with full size spare- same configuration under the trunk floor. He says (and it looks like he's right) that it does not decrease space.
I am guessing that if you replace the temp tire you have now with a full size, it would require a different wheel (like the other 4).
I checked a web site for tire prices. The Bridgestones are $266 each with a $100 rebate for a set of four.
As Mark, stated your timeframe from order to delivery is right on. You could get your car a bit earlier. The general scenario is as follows, just change the month to suit your needs:
March order (by the dealer - orders after the 1st week of February don't get submitted until early March).
April build
Deliveries beginning in late May and continue through June.
-------------------- I believe you will have far more pleasant surprises [with the M] and a better overall experience (for example, things on the Infiniti just seem to work). --------------------
I kind of suspected you might be feeling that way. Thanks for clarifying.
Thanks, cheerioboy26. I spoke to the dealer this afternoon and you are right on. March1 order, April build, and June delivery. He also said, dealers across the country(at least in snow country) underestimated the demand for the all-wheel drive. They are very scarce, especially with the popular options-Journey/Tech.
Traded 530i for M35 last month. After +1500 miles the M35 is the better car. Corners as well, faster, and haven't had to take it back to the dealer even once. For those of you who are waiting for delivery, you won't be disappointed.

How is the XM vs Sirius anyway?
2500 rpm @ 60mph.
My M35 with 1500 miles on it shows 2250 rpm @ 60 mph, and 2500 rpm @ 65 mph.
Anyone check this out yet?

M45 --------- 36.7 ft
BMW 530i --- 37.5
MB E-Class -- 37.4
The M is the shortest by more than 8 inches. Thats a nice advantage when you need it.
You really can't think of the M as being in any way related to the I, except perhaps for reliability.
