Anybody installed subwoofer on the GLS model? I haven't check it yet. Is there the wire ready for the connection? $50 can buy a subwoofer better than the standard speakers.

    1. Hyundai's transmissions "learn" the drivers preferences. If you want it to get up and go, you need to use it the way you want it to be for a while.

    2. Doesn't this have Shiftronic? When you want a lower gear for more power, pull the shift lever to the "-" sign and it should drop down a gear.
  • csuvcsuv Member Posts: 25
I only used the shiftronic at test drive and I did not feel any difference. Maybe I did not use that properly.

But is it a good idea to try the acceleration that hard even before the break-in is done?
  • mar55mar55 Member Posts: 11
I checked mine and there is only one hook on the right side in back.
The plastic covers only the positive. This is because if you touch the positive and any part of the body (Negative) you will get shocked. Also if any thing falls on it, it may short to ground. Hope this helps

    Hey mfunkatron......
I have the 4wd GLS Tucson and 3600miles.
I use to get 16-17 mpg with mixed driving when I first got it in February....but the temp in NJ was much colder.
Now I get ~20mpg with the same driving habits. I don't know if the improvement is due to the weather or due to a break-in period.

I agree with you. When I look at and test drove a demo it had flaps on it. When I asked the dealer about them he told me that I picked out a GLS without them.
Of course, I did not notice them not on my GLS until I was back in Boston,Ma. I bought it in FL. in April and returned home for the summer in mid May. So all my questions were done over the phone. Other than that, it has been a great to drive back here (1500 miles). I agree with a lot of others that some options and standard extras would be nice, but is not a LEXUS or BMW . Remember that you can buy two Tucsons for the price of one of them.

Yes, I'm at around 6000 miles and my MPG has gotten better. I have the LX model.
  • csuvcsuv Member Posts: 25
I saw GLS model at dealership that both sunroof and cross rail bars are on the cars. But the side rails are not the same as those that are said to have conflict with sunroof. The side rails looks like the ones appear on the Tucson brochure. But not exactly the same. One thing I am not sure is how the cross rail bars and its hooking kits look like. Get one and you will see what I am saying.

windshield and two front door class don't look like glass on the back and rear seat windows. windshield may be right because we need to see clear through the class. But how come the glass on driver and passenger seats are not using the same class or were nt tinted? GLS Frw. How is yours?
  • pcatch135pcatch135 Member Posts: 8
You are right. The front and front passenger side windows are clear (slight tint). The reason I have been told is that you need a clear view left and right and be able to see you side mirrors. At night the side mirrors would be hard to see. I hope this answers your question. I live in MA. and if you go to a tint shop they can not tint the front and front side windows by law.
  • sandpapersandpaper Member Posts: 60
The glass for most vehicles aren't tinted for the front driver and passenger windows. Its not safe to have them tinted + police officers need to be able to see inside (areas where its illegal not to wear a seat belt)
  • 307web307web Member Posts: 1,033
The police have bigger concerns why they need to be able to see inside cars than just for seatbelts.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
On the newest Tuscons delivered to dealers the side rails have been changed to allow for the use of crossrails. It's good to see Hyundai paying attention to the small details and fixing what was perceived as a problem.

No need for me to get a brochure. I work at a dealer, but thanks for the info because I didn't notice the change until you brought it up
  • csuvcsuv Member Posts: 25
how can you know if yours need the repair?
  • csuvcsuv Member Posts: 25
On the owner's manual it's said to drive it up to 55 mph and keep it between 2000 and 4000 rpm in the first 1200 mile break-in period. But the only way to do these simultaneously is to use the shiftronic. I just wonder if this will possibly damage the transmission or the engine.

Usually if you drive a manual car at low gear but high speed at very high rpm or drive too slow at high gear you can damage or put excessive wear on the transmission and engine.

Does anybody have an idea about how the lease program for a Tucson GLS 2wd auto works? Can leases be longer than 39 months? What is a good lease price?

Good afternoon, I live in St. Maarten and had bought a Tucson V4 in Deecember of 2004. In the month of January my jeep start making a loud noise anytime I press brakes. I have been to the dealer and they have change both front and back brakes, and it is still doing the same thing.

Any advice in what I should do, sins I have been back and forth to the dealers?

Hello everyone. I just test drove an '05 Tuscon LX 4WD today. Looking to replace our '98 Chevy Blazer LT with almost 100K ( :lemon: ). I am amazed at all the safety and comfort features Hyundai offers for the price. Here is my questions for all of the current owners out there...

    1. What is your real world mileage? Pure highway? Mixed?
    2. What are some of the problems that are out there about this car? Touchy brakes? Squeaks and rattles? Engine noise? Oil consumption? Interior fit and finish? Paint quality? Ride characteristics? Anything else?
    3. How well does a car seat fit in the back? Two side-by-side?

I would like a navigation option but the indentation in the middle of the dash seems ideal for an aftermarket system. Would also like climate control and a 5-speed automatic tranny but hey you can't have everything.

The dealer offered me an overnight test drive today which I will take him up on this weekend when I can drive it more and get a better idea of what the car is like.

    Thanks in advance. :)

After 6000 miles, I have these comments:
    1. Took a trip from Connecticut to Florida in April and the LXV6 performed outstandingly. With four people.
    2. Mileage seems to be around 21 city 24 highway, but it depends a lot on how you drive, getting stuck in traffic, etc.
    3. I bought it in February, and we had a lot of snow in Connecticut, and the care is great in snow.
    4. Problems? None. The breaks are high and firm like I lke them. No oil consumption, the brakes work fine, no brake problems like I had in my 2003 Sonata.
    5. Pet gripes: the ceiling light is not lighted, so when I turn on the ceiling light, I always open the moon roof. Also, the switch on the left which locks all doors, is not lighted, so you have to search for it when its dark.. These "problems" are solved when you memorize where the switches are located.
  • pcatch135pcatch135 Member Posts: 8
You and I have seemed to have the same experiences. I bought my Tucson (LXV6) in Florida in March and drove it back to Ma. in May. Do you have 4wd or a fwd like I do. I just turned 4300 miles on it. Your city mileage is about 1mpg better than mine, on the highway I got 25-26 mpg on the trip back to Ma. You are right that gripes are not problems that effect the Tucson. I had my first oil change at 4000 miles, and was told by the dealership that I should be doing it around 3000 miles. The owners manual states 7500. Now that I am home for summer I will be doing a lot of short trips around 25 miles a day. I will still change my oil around every 4000 miles. Am I doing the right thing?

So we have a 2005 LX 4WD in our driveway right now as an overnight tester. Some thoughts...

It seems like a very nice car.
    Plenty of passenger room.
The driver's seat is very comfortable. The passenger front seat and the rear seats have plenty of room but not much support - I felt like I was sliding around in them during cornering.
Limited cargo room with the rear seats up - especially if they are reclined (although the reclining feature is great!).
Some features that are missing that would be nice as standard on the LX or even as options - power seats, outside temp gauge, trip computer, automatic rear view mirror, steering wheel mounted radio controls, auto-up driver's window.
The cigarette lighter interferes with the shifter when there is a phone charger plugged into it.
The arm rest needs to slide forward more.
The engine is plenty peppy enough and the autostick feature is fun.

And obviously the price and warrantee are very attractive. I am returning the car tomorrow and will talk pricing with the salesperson sometime this week. Do you all think there will be a lot of summer specials - either rebates or special rates? We are not in a rush.

Thanks again. BTW - is there a pricing board up and running for this car?

I just changed my oil for the first time on my Tucson and could not believe the location of the oil filter. Actually the filter is in a good location, it is just the undercarriage plastic shield that gets in the way. It looks like it has a section that comes off so you can get to the filter easier, but I was not sure of the type of tool to use.

Any suggestions, comments would be appreciated.

I just traded in a 04 Saturn Vue for the GLS Tucson. The best move I have made. The worst was buying the Saturn.

    Thanks,

A Sportage EX 4WD w/luxury pkg is $799 less MSRP than the Tucson LX 4wd w/ sunroof.

With the Kia you get trip computer, Leather trim on the doors, Auto headlights, Electrochromatic Mirror w/Homelink, and body colored bumpers w/2 of the colors.

The Tucson has 1 more speaker.

The Sportage LX 4WD is $1,754 less MSRP than the GTucson GLS 4WD but you don't get intermittent rear wiper, fog lights, remote alarm, cargo net, floor mats Leather steering wheel, leather shift knob and one more speaker on the Sportage.

Rebates, $ off MSRP? Don't know yet.

I just purchased a Sportage LX (after having been a Hyundai owner for 13 years), 4WD, V6 for 18700 including destination charge. I' m not sure what you're point is "njerald". Do you think the Sportage is the better value overall? A very mysterious and wacky post you've left there..

I have a 2005 2.7GLS FW Tucson. I am just about to have my first oil change and guess what?? The engine warning light is on continuously without flashing. I have checked my gas cap and it was closed properly according to the manual instruction. So, anyone have any experience like this or similar ? I never have any problem like this so early with my previous cars before especially with my Honda Civic 270,000km the engine is still running good. I must be the unlucky one this time. My brother is about to buy a Hyundai Tucson and now he is backing out and wants to buy the Honda Civic or Jeep Liberty instead.

Just did my first oil change on my 05 GL 2.0L. My skid plate had 5 12mm bolts and 2 cheap plastic connectors that had little function except to be a pain in the [non-permissible content removed]. I couldn't get one of them loose and had to break it off. Might not even replace it. On the 2.0L the drain plug is easy access and the oil filter is under the alternator but still easy access. Two things I noticed was the very small oil filter which I don't believe can give this engine a good oil flow and filtering. And the exhaust pipe runs right next to the oil drain pan making the oil hotter that it has to be. Both of these are just bad designs. Cost cutting went to far in these situations. I bet a simple 6 inch heat shield would drop oil temps by 20 degrees. I was going to go 5k or 6 months between oil changes as good oil can easily go that long, but with these poor designs, I may have to waste money on a 3k or 3 month change.
  • pn123pn123 Member Posts: 3
I read quite a few posting regards to the small oil filter on Tucson. Is this mean I will have to change oil and filter more early and often then I should?
  • 238000238000 Member Posts: 48
I always change my oil at 3000 miles even though the owners manual says 7500. I have done this with all my cars, and feel that it is worth it. I have the LX model which I love. I did a dumb thing with the CD changer, I pushed a CD in and jammed the unit. The dealer fixed it for no charge, but I have a mental block when it comes to inserting CDs, I let my companion do it and she has no trouble. Also, I never used the 50/50 gearing which is used to pull out of deep snow if you need
it. I guess I'm afraid of it. I also had the car reprogrammed by the dealer to fix the ESP system, which we have, but which makes no sense to me at all. I pulling out of snow, the care takes care of it without needing the 50/50. We had a lot of snow in Connecticut this winter, and the care worked fine.

Once the fuel warning light is on how many more miles can Tucson run? Mine had run 200 miles and there is less than a quarter of the full scale on the fuel dash.
  • csuvcsuv Member Posts: 25
I feel that it takes 1-2 seconds to start the engine. I feel it's a little longer. Is there a problem here?
  • edvisoredvisor Member Posts: 4
I have the same problem with my Tucson. I have a severe leak coming from the sunroof and water accumulating on top of the two small back windows. The inside roof is beginning to look like crap.

The Hyundai service dept has been trying to fix it since the beginning of May to no avail. One service technician told me that the drip channels are designed to accommodate water brought in from your sunroof when you open it while wet. It’s obvious that the sunroof is letting in too much water for it to adequately seep out through the drip-channels. What has been angering me is that Hyundai hires a third party contractor to fix water leaks. The same idiot claims that it’s fixed every time, but it’s not.

Any dealer claiming that this is perfectly normal has got to be out of his mind. If so, why doesn’t Hyundai publicly note this huge issue? I have had water coming in while driving in the rain and by simple hose cleaning. What' is the Dealer/Hyundai going to tell me that I can’t drive in the rain or clean my truck? I wonder if this qualifies under state lemon laws?

You should see it get better, especially after you have about 5000 miles on it. When I first got my LX AWD, my mileage fluctuated between 14 - 17 mpg. I now have 6500 miles on it and I am consistently averaging 19.5 mpg in mostly urban driving of trips under 10-12 miles or less. When I get it out in highway driving, it gets up around 22 - 23 mpg. I have also read some posts on other forums that say that other owners of Hyundai's with this 2.7 liter V6 have seen continual incremental increases until they get about 10000 miles or so on their vehicle. Good luck and enjoy your Tucson. :)

Bought LX 2-wd/wife and LX 4wd/mine in oct. 04.Wife gets 21mpg avg. and my 4wd 19.5mpg.I removed spare and storage device and a full-size spare fits perfectly on stock alloy-put MB Visions that were on my traded-in 04 XG350L on my black LX and these chrome 5-spokers look righteous! My commute is 70 mph/24 min. to work,50 min. rush/crawl home-would expect 24 mpg on a straight Reno from Seattle run.Have 3300 mi. on mine and 7200 on hers, was trouble-free driving on both til today-wife's started bucking badly from standing stop then smoothes out-will take to dealer on the morrow. The thing about Hyundai along with the price is the warranty-we each paid $699.00 additionally to extend out to 10 years the bumper-to bumper so my wife's current issue will be resolved and with no lost sleep-now-or any other probs for a decade.I expect few.

Having got through the break-in period and changing the oil, I headed off road on a 40 mile mountain trail. I was impressed at how well my 2WD GL 2.0L auto performed. The elevation was between 5000 and 8000 and I had plenty of power to get up some steep rocky hills. There wasn't much traction from the street tires that are standard, but they did an acceptable job on the dry portions. I got caught in a snow storm at the higher elevations and saw that the TCS light was on almost all the time going uphill. It felt like the TCS worked well. Ground clearance was fantastic and was never an issue. Going downhill on some muddy portions, I'm sure that all 4 wheels were in ABS control as the brake pedal shook like crazy. This turned out to be more than I wanted to put my Tucson through and I don't know how long it would last if I did this everyday since its not built for anything more than light duty, but I liked its response to off roading. As a side note with 1200 miles, I average 21mpg in mostly city driving.

    Hey Folks,

    I have a 2005 GL 2.0
The first week that I had my car a cd jammed in the cd player. The dealership reordered the wrong part twice, and now I've been waiting since early April for a new one to arrive. Has anyone else experienced this problem? What did you do?
I called Hyundai and spoke with someone, but the situation does not seem to be resolving. Any advice would be appreciated.

For the past 7 years I have been driving a stick car so I used the shiftronic very often. It can make acceleration (especially on 1st and 2nd gear) better than using automatic mode. You can try it to approve or disapprove this.

Usually a stick car can have better gas mileage than otherwise identical automatic car. I only drove a couple of hundred miles and still don't have idea if I can get more miles by using shiftronic on the Tucson. Anybody paid attention on this?

oops!! to clarify wifes prob w/ jerking from standing start that started 0n 7-17-05 it was the NUT BEHIND THE WHEEL!!!When I installed a K&N air filter I didn't do a perfect job of re-attaching hose to airbox and 7k mi. later air was bypassing the o2 sensor-they figured it out and I can truthfully say our two burros our perfect after a combined 11k mi.RE: probs W/ insert of discs..I was not satisfied w/the power of the stock 6-disc so I yarded out the speakers myself and had a shop install a Pioneer head unit[couldn't figure dash trim out] and put a 12-disc in the glove...this all-Pioneer sys. rocks nicely now and I also traded out the dash trim for the woodgrain look-wife just went for Pioneer 200 watt head&4 dr spkrs..luv'em!!My nomdeplume refers to my 05 mazda6i,by the way-seen 06 sonata yet?Nice!!!

I finally purchased my Tucson yesterday. I got the GLS 4WD. It is silver with grey interior. I absolutely love it. The one I got doesn't have any mud guards on it. I was hoping to buy some to install myself, but I can't find them. Could you please post links to sites that carry them. I live in the States if that makes a difference. Thanks.

I just purchased my Tucson a little more than a week ago. I noticed that the plastic panel below the steering wheel is a little bit loose where it connects right below the steering wheel. Also, there is a slight gap on the right side just below the ignition. I was wondering if this is like this on all Tucsons or if I should take it back to the dealer to have it adjusted. It's not a major problem, but I'm interested in hearing if anyone noticed the same thing. Thanks.

a few days ago in Rapid City, SD. I was turning left to get onto an I-90 freeway on-ramp and a silver Tucson got in the lane behind me. It's a really sharp looking SUV, much better looking than the Hyundai Santa Fe IMO. I accelerated my Sportage 4x4 on down the on-ramp and kept looking at the Tucson and it accelerated very slowly, now I realize that the owner may be babying the motor like it says to do for the first 1000 miles in most car's owners manuals. I know my Sportage's manual said to do that and I held to it completely, though it wasn't easy!
    Enjoy your Tucson's! :)

I bought a Tucson LX 4WD November 2004. It has 12,000 miles. I want to exchange this car for another Tucson LX 4WD in November 2005 for a brand new one.

The TMV for a brand new is $22,000. How much will the dealer offer for my 2004 car. I always wanted to buy a particular color that in 2004 was not possible to obtain.

    Will somebody help?

Go to the smart shopper section and post your info in "real world trade in values" The resident expert there should be able to help you. A word of caution however, he is not a big fan of Hyundai's, but his numbers are pretty acurate.

:shades: I felt I should provide some information back to this forum after using it and some other forums and web pages to make my decision to purchase a Tucson LX 4WD. My wife and I have only had our Tucson 3 weeks so I can't comment on any problems because I haven't had any. I will say after looking at the Toyota Highlander, Subaru Forester, Nissan Marino, Suzuki XL-7 and many other mid-sized to mini Utes we always came back to the Tucson. I know there will be folks out there that won't agree with my statements but this is how I feel like it or not. I felt that the overall look of quality on the Tucson was just as good as any other car I looked at. Yes the interior has more plastic than some of the other cars but your not paying $32,000.00 for it either. Our Tucson has one of the best paint jobs I saw on any car, it's black and black paint is very hard to apply correctly. The doors and finder seams all match, you can look down either side and not see any bumps, lumps ETC. Interior seams are that way as well. All the doors shut very positive and smooth. The ride is fairly smooth for a short wheel based car. Brakes feel very positive and safe. Steering is good. Turning radius is very good. Some road noise but I don't consider it excessive for the type of car. No rattles or squeaks. Lots of interior room front and back for passengers and cargo when seats are folded down. My 148 LB Bullmastiff loves the room. Still waiting for gas mileage stats. I haven't had it on any long runs yet still breaking it in per the manual, but I don't see any big gas mileage problems for short trips. I will post another message when I have better mileage information. We have the V6 and although it's not a pocket rocket it does have respectable performance. Depending on acceleration the transmission will at times shift a little slow from first to second but seems to only do that during very slow starts. Can't comment on the 4WD haven't had to use it yet. We have the heated seat, front and rear window de-Icers and the side mirror heaters that's all pretty nice but haven't used them yet either. We have the leather seats although they are not BMW quality they're not bad for the price. Sound system is average. Good AC and heater. Interior has good cupholders and 3 power outlets. Would like a standard sized spare tire but that's a small complaint. Overall for what we paid, the warranty, the initial outward look of quality my wife and I love our Tucson. Time will tell if the initial look of quality extends out into the future. ;)

    Good Luck with Your Tucson

I also jammed a cd in the cd player, but the dealer took about 1/2 hour to fix it, with no charge. The cd player works fine, but I only use one cd at a time, since I now have a mental block about using it, not wanting to jam it again. The unit comes out and is seemingly convenient to fix, or to insert a new one. I am enjoying my Tucson with 7100 miles on it, and after a long trip, Connecticut to Florida where it performed excellently.
