If your compressor is always running, you have a leak. But it can be anywhere in the system, at the compressor, lines to the four wheels, in the airsprings themselves. You don't have to take it to a dealer, but you must have someone who "knows and understands" the system, not just guessing, look at it, or you'll get ripped off with repairs you didn't need. So, be careful. At least the dealer should get the diagnosis right.

I went to take my kids to School and when I got outside my 01' Navi was all the way sitting on my tires, had it towed to Ford and $1100.00 later the whole compresser and wires were burnt out..... never had 1 symptom that it was going to happen, and about 7 hours earlier was driving it and it was fine!!!!! My Question is how could that happen?????
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
Clearly, your compressor burned up. Not all that uncommon with machines of that type.

I have been noticing some noise coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle, which I assumed was the load leveling...much louder than normal and seems to be longer. Had the car in for an oil change and they said it was fine.
The same night went out to my car to leave (I had just driven it 5 minutes earlier) and it was completely dead. Had a friend jump it but it wouldn't hold a charge. Called the dealersip and they picked up. Told me my suspension compressor ($525) was constantly running and needed to be replaced and that is why the battery died. They charged the battery and sent me on my way while the part was ordered. Next day...leaving work...car dead. Called the dealership they picked up. This time they said is it my alternator ($450) testing 10.3 on a 13 point scale. Would the compressor problem have antying to do with the alternator or vice versa? Is is common that the compressor gets louder before going out?

The bad compressor could put stress on the Alternator, but not the reverse. It IS common for the compressor to get progressively louder as it ages. I never burned one out, but if it were running all the time, you'd hear it when you shut the truck off. I'm not buying this whole trip from your dealer.....but the compressor eventually failing is certainly likely. As to why it's draining your battery though, that would not be possible without the Alternator being weak as well.

This should fix it. If not, they're guessing wrong. Obviously.

I recommend turning off your CAPS LOCK. People tend to ignore messages typed with ALL CAPS.

I am having a problem with water coming in during rain at the inside passenger grip near the headliner. This just started last month. It is a lot of water that drips down to the floor. Also, on the drivers side, there is rust all along the seam at the bottom of the door on the inside. This car has never been in an accident and I only noticed the rust earlier this year so I don't know how long it has been there as I don't detail my own car. I am wondering if this was due to some other kind of leak. Anyone hear of either of these things happening before?
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
it's the drain line from the moonroof. Probably runs down along the A pillar. Check underneath - it's probably clogged with dirt.
  • getmettgetmett Member Posts: 1
I also have similar air susp problem, Chk Sus warning with JUST the back shocks flat. Fronts are fine. However there is no noticeable noise from the compressor. Is it safe to drive or should it be towed?

Is there anything I can check or do to remedy and fix this?
or do I resign myself to the inevitable fate of the dealer and the $150 diagnosis charge plus whatever comes next?

I just brought a used a 2000 Lincoln Navigator and for some reason when I turn on the heat in my truck it doesn't blow out hot air from the front vents. Crazy enough it blows hot air out of the 2nd and 3rd row vents, just not the front. I've tried all kinds of different adjustments to the two overhead control panels for the rear, but the air from the front vents still doesn't blow out hot. It worked for me once when I tried it, but hasn't worked again! Also the front heated seats light comes on, but the seats doesn't get hot. I've heard that it might be the valve under the frame not opening. Has anyone else experienced these problems or have any suggestions?

A few months ago the back end on my 2000 nav fell down like a low rider, I took it in to get fixed and according to my receipt they did the following... replaced rear ride level sensor, 1 misc compressor ($367), 1 misc Module ($309), short in module causing pump to run constantly 3.0 replaced ride control module and replaced noisy air suspension compressor, it was fixed after that but then only 5 days later the back end went down again. This time my receipt was nondetailed only having a part number of 220790 and a cost of $210. It was fixed again and worked fine for a couple months during which my warranty expired. Then it went down again and they wouldnt fix it since the warranty was over, I argued that they must have not properly fixed it the first time but they said it went down for a different reason both times and that there and many many reasons why the back end could drop. Not knowing what to do I waited a little while, then driving it one day with the back end down we went to a park and had to drive on some really really bumpy terrain when we got there we left the truck running because it was 90 out and our youngest son was sleeping inside, then after 10 minutes or so we noticed the back end was up again. Since that time it has gone up and back down 2 more times, every time i decide im going to bite the bullet and cough up the cash to fix it it goes up by itself and then in a week or 2 or 3 it goes back down. Ive also had to get a new alternator during this time and ive heard that this can cause that. Does anyone know what the problem is ? Please Advise. :confuse:

The front and rear HVAC systems are independent of each other, so what's going on in the rear of the truck have nothing to do with the front. Your problem is most likely a stuck blend-door deep inside the dash. Could also be a water valve, if equipped, is stuck or even the switch gear may be failing. It's unusual for these things to fail, but something has. I think the dealer, or a good Ford mechanic is called for. Don't think you can fix this urself.
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
:confuse: Sigh....I'm so sorry never - this is extremely frustrating for you, I know. This system is evidently haunted by one little (probably $3.00) subcomponent somewhere that is failing, probably intermittantly. I think you need a specialist from Ford. I would implore the service manager at the dealership to find the best guy there is in Lincoln Air Suspension to look at it, and don't pick the truck up until they've isolated and fixed the problem.

Personally, I'd trade the truck in. I'd be out of patience by now....
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Even if the problem was different, the dealer can ask Lincoln for an AWA (After Warranty Adjustment) where the dealer and Lincoln pick up all or part of the tab. I'd find a new dealer if possible since this one doesn't seem to want to help. If it turns out to be a part that was just replaced then it should carry it's own 12 month/12K mile warranty outside of the vehicle warranty.

just bought this truck about a week ago, everything seemed fine. For the past 2 days its been acting strange. Sometimes (mostly while on the highway) the rpm's will get stuck at about 1500-2000 and the truck will start shaking, if I let go of the pedal and then accelerate again it usually will be ok for a little bit and then happen again. Is this a tranny problem??? if not, any ideas? also, where should the rpm's be at about 70mph? thanks in advance

Have you changed the fuel filter?
  • braciolebraciole Member Posts: 2
yes, got a full tune-up this morning actually, the plugs needed to be replaced because of a misfire and the fuel and air filters were changed. I thought it had something to do with the misfire, but it's still happening
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
    1) Do you have any trouble lights on in the dash?

    2) yOU COULD HAVE A COIL PACK going bad on you.

    3) Is your heat guage in the normal range when the truck is doing this?

My 03 is doing the same thing . So how did you fix it?????
  • filo1filo1 Member Posts: 2
Navigator Stalling - '03. I have an '03 Navigator and it has been stalling from stops, in drive and and in reverse. It has recently started to not only stall, but also shut off completely. Anyone know what the problem is????? Pretty concerned......
  • filo1filo1 Member Posts: 2
I had a similar problem a year ago and they said it was a leaky air suspension spring. After many days of waiting for the part, etc, they fixed it and I have not really had any more problems since.

I have a 2000 lincoln navigator and my 4x4 light comes on evrytime I drive my car only when I have it in a4wd. Is there something I should worry about???

    Anybody please help.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Gee - what does the owner's manual say about the light? Is it a normal indicator that you're in 4wd or is it a fault indicator? The answer is right in your glovebox. Try page 14.
  • aladdinsanealaddinsane Member Posts: 182
When I start her up, in order for it to keep running I have to keep my foot on the gas, if I don't it will stall.New battery, has oil, maybe its the fuel filter? If it is where is it. 2000 navigator
  • aladdinsanealaddinsane Member Posts: 182
u have a leak in your air hose I had the same problem.
Turn on engine and listen, under the hood on the drivers side in the area of the fuse box.If theres a leak the part cost about 27.00. I replaced it myself. good luck
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Could be the fuel filter - that should be changed anyway and is relatively cheap. Might be the throttle position sensor or the throttle body. Should be easy for a shop to diagnose if the filter doesn't fix it.
  • aladdinsanealaddinsane Member Posts: 182
Where is the fuel filter located in the 2000 navigator?
  • gene_vgene_v Member Posts: 235
This happened to me it will start kicking on and off while you drive, kill your battery every night. I had to replace the compressor
  • gene_vgene_v Member Posts: 235
my 99 navigator is not getting power to the compressor. The back end is all the way down anyone have any ideas?
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
U sure it's not getting power, or is the compressor just shot?
  • donavan71donavan71 Member Posts: 6
So what got replaced? I just got a CES light last night and the code i got was P0307 (low compression #7 cylinder). Really don't wanna take it to the dealer. It's a 2001 'Gator with 70,000 miles. When we first bought it (used) we got the same code and the dealer had it fixed. They had to remove the engine and have the cylinder heads machined.

Can anyone help? Just purchased this vehicle by a private owner. I was backing into my driveway. The back up sensors where doing what they do. I was close to the Garage door. I walked to the back door and opening it. It work automatically just fine. I went to close it and it didn't work. I looked in the manual in regards to re setting it. I tried what it said with no luck. The "liftgate ajar" stays on now even though its closed. Which causes auto door locks not to work, interior lights staying on etc. Before I send it to Dealer anyone have a solution?
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
Absolutely! This is pretty common actually...now, if I can just remember - if the reset doesn't work, shut it tight if you can, or open it all the way if necessary, disconnect the fuse for it, or the battery cable for a minute, and reconnect. It'll work fine.

In my 02 Navi, I got zero bass from the stereo. Same when playing a CD. The speakers do not hiss or crackle, so they aren't blown. I got no idea...anyone any ideas?????????
  • ejjones55ejjones55 Member Posts: 10
I bought it with 22" Rims on it. I didn't care for them, so I put the stock 17" rims back on. When I look at the thing parked it looks like the whole thing is sitting too high over the wheels. When I drive around it feels like I am too high and that the front end is higher then the back. Any suggestions please?????????
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
Both of these problems seem to hearken back to the previous owner to me. Sounds like your truck was owned previously by a hip-hopper or rocker - someone who put an amp in the car, then took it out. Leaving you with no base at all. To ride on 22 inch wheels, another sign of my assumption, the truck may have been lifted, or the air suspension tampered with to raise the truck. That's going to take some professional work to restore it to factory specs.
  • scootertrashscootertrash Member Posts: 698
    Yes, that's my take too.
The previous owner screwed up the suspension and radio for you.
Who knows what wires they have been hacking on.
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
I don't buy cars with aftermarket wheels on 'em. Also, did you not check the radio before you bought it?
  • ejjones55ejjones55 Member Posts: 10
Is it possible that the torsion bar on the front end was cranked up? Can it be adjusted back down? Is it possible that the subwoofer went bad and that's causing the zero bass? Because I am almost certain that when I bought the Navi about 8 months ago, it worked...

    thank you guys
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
I didn't know they had a torsion bar up front, but maybe they do. However, the air suspension on these would override it anyway, most likely. The sensors have either been tampered with or raised to accomodate the new wheels, or some type of lift kit installed, but that's really hard to do on these. UNless your air suspension was removed and replaced with something static. Also, a real challenge.
  • ejjones55ejjones55 Member Posts: 10
Can the sensors be adjusted back to normal or back to stock? If so, how and can it be done easily or by mechanic/dealer? Is the sensor located near the actually air bag suspension? Is there one sensor for all wheels or multiple sensors?
  • nvbankernvbanker Member Posts: 7,239
Multiple sensors, and I have no idea how they would be adjusted. This would need a pro.....

Did you have any luck solving the problem? I am having a similar problem with my driver's side hand grip leaking, also just started having a leak from the headliner around the moonroof.

I have checked the weather stripping and made sure the moon roof is closed all the way but have not had any luck isolating where the leak is coming from.

I am thinking about bringing it to the licoln dealer but not sure if they would have any better luck without tearing everything apart and charging an arm and a leg to find it.

    Any suggestions?
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
Did you check the drain holes around the inside of the moonroof? Sometimes they get clogged.

Can anyone tell me where the lower AC port is located on a
2000 Navigator. I am trying to add freon.
  • mbw2007mbw2007 Member Posts: 2
Yes but didn't see anything unusual. I did call the dealership and they said they didn't have a history of a problem with leaks but would be willing to take a look and see if they could diagnose the problem. This of course would be a minimum 2 hour labor charge they said and may not find the problem....

Hello i'm the owner of a lincoln navigator year 2000 with 74,000 miles on it My question is my check engine light soon light is on my guess is that it needs a tune up i changed the air filtor and i brought some spark plugs thinking that this is a job i can install myself or is it a mechanics job? I thought this would be simple :D
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
It's probably not a simple tune-up. Go to autozone and they'll pull the code for you at no charge. Then google the code. That will give you an idea of the problem. Did you leave the gas cap open? That will do it.
