    Funny .
I finally sat on 2007 Tundra DC , it was very comfortable. I could not take it for a test drive, but I will do it tomorrow.
My goal is to get a CrewMax Limited, 4X4 , 5.7L , loaded.

I have seen the Tundra Regular, DC and CrewMax but none had the limited trim level. I'm used to BMW and Lexus vehicles so to not see leather is a letdown. The bed on the CrewMax is too small. Also, 31 variations and no Limited DC with a long bed!

You must be driving like an idiot if you are only getting 15mpg... I got over 15 mpg on my tundra v8 while towing a trailer... and get up to 24mpg with my 2006 4-runner v8... :confuse:
  • ackboaterackboater Member Posts: 19
jwalker, I'm not an idiot. I'm just asking an honest question. If you cannot answer my question then please don't waste everyone's time here. Thank You.

Well today I drove home my 2007 Tundra a sky silver, 5.7, Texas edition with 20 inch wheels and I am happy as a lark. I paid msrp of 32,166 but that's ok. I almost bought a 2007 chevy silverado for 27,500. The difference to me was the 5.7 vs 4.8, the side airbags to not, the chrome tubes to not, the perceived difference in build quality, the carpet on the chevy already looked ratty, the VSC, the wheels, trim and finally the looks. All these things together made me feel that the tundra was a fair value for the price. Yes, I know that the chevy can have all these items but that would be special orders and not your off the lot trucks. All this talk of towing capacities and this and that at the end of the day are meaningless to most buyers. The Tundra probably won't be your standard work truck because they will never be low be the low bid on purchase quotes. Toyota will sell to the people who want a truck that they feel comfortable and safe in, like me.

Congratulations on your purchase rmartinez1! You are exactly what this forum is for "07 Tundra Owners".
Please give updates as to fuel economy and how you like your new truck!

I haven't had an opportunity to see the 20" rims on the new Tundra. How do they look?

Congratulations, finally an owner has posted. The previous 30+ pages of this thread can probably be deleted.

Maybe you could give report on the performance characteristics? I think the price difference was worth it just to get the 5.7 6 speed.

 I went back to take a second test drive so that I could get by ah factor this time. The truck drives great and the tranny is fantastic. I just have to ask one question: What is with all the plastic, inside and out? Man I was super excited and had cash in hand, but i can't pull the trigger on this truck. Other than the engine, tranny, brakes, etc... I can't get past how cheap this truck feels. Please let me know if it is just me. Maybe I had my expectations too high.
  • serranotserranot Member Posts: 113
It is, in my opinion, not any more plasticky than any other truck. Name one truck that has a Maserati interior--they just don't exist. I saw the truck at the DC auto show and thought the material quality was just fine and certainly not below the standards of the Big Three.

    Regards,
    Tom

I do not like Ford trucks at all, but I think they have a better interior than this truck right now. By the way I was not just talking about the interior, name me one other truck over 30K that has a plastic gas cap with a plastic hinge, flat black handles, and flat black mirrors? Even the Tacoma overs color matching mirrors and handles with a metal gas cap. I am not looking for a Maserati interior, just thought it would be better thats all!
  • rmartinez1rmartinez1 Member Posts: 12
They are chrome rims with 7 spokes(?) with Bridgestone duelers on them. They don't have a toyota label on the rims so I don't who makes them, but they do look good and really add to the truck.
  • ccsargenccsargen Member Posts: 8
I hope you are getting 15 mpg while pulling a boat due to your ticker being ackboater???? Anyhow, if that is the case the 4.0 V6 might be under powered for your big boat. The 5.7 L is supposed to get 16 to 20 mpg, probably a little less while pulling though. If your terrain his hilly it will also probably get less pulling. If your considering a Tundra don't get the 4.0 or the 4.7 they both get less gas milage than the 5.7. Again, probably undersized. And don't drive like an idiot! jk ;)
  • dreasdaddreasdad Member Posts: 276
You have got to drive the reg cab with the 5.7, it is so much fun.
Add s couple of wings and a tail and you are ready for take off!!!!!!!
  • rs_pettyrs_petty Member Posts: 423
They'll rust with all the ethanol in the fuel now a days. My 2000 has plastic and I've had no problem. Doesn't Chevy have a plastic bed?
  • iqbaldhillon2iqbaldhillon2 Member Posts: 116
I did it I bought an all new 2007 Toyota Tundra Double Cab w/ the 5.7 Liter, man was I impressed. Compared to my old Ram this thing hauls butt! The ride is incredibally smooth! Cabin is quite, and it hauls the biggest of loads with ease, the interior is okay but is kind of plasticy, but still this is a great truck, now I am satisfied. Oh by the way I got mine in phantom gray SR5 package, I did not get Limited because I need it for work and I don't want to ruin the leather. This trcuk rocks! Good Job Toyota! ;)
  • serranotserranot Member Posts: 113
Sorry, the Maserati comment was a little harsh. I am different in that I do not equate plastic with cheap. The fact that a gas cap is plastic is irrelevant to me, as is the color of mirrors or handles. I really don't care about those things. The quality of the plastic is more relevant, like the cheap hard plasic in most Ford vehicles versus the soft plastic of a Honda.

    Tom

I just got back from a Toyota dealership in Metro Atlanta (Conyers). In the pricing itemization, there was a line item titled "Market Adjustment" for $2,500.00. Additionally, the "Dealers Fee" was $700.00. Can someone explain the "Market Adjustment" justification?

    Thanks
  • dano100dano100 Member Posts: 22
Buyer Beware! The "Market Adjustment" of $2500 is just what it says, the dealer is adding $2500 to the sticker price in hopes that unwitting customers determined to be the first on the block to own the new Tundra will pad their bottom line. The thing is, big trucks aren't selling like hot cakes and once the dealer pipeline is filled you will start to see big discounts and great lease deals. Look at the thread here on 2007 financing, it's already happening in SoCal. Believe me, Toyota has done this before. In 1997 they were determined to make the Camry the #1 selling car in the U.S and offered huge discounts and stupid residuals on leases to get there...and it worked! They are now determined to take on the big 3 with this new Tundra. They just spent close to $1 billion on the plant in Texas and now have the capacity to build 200,000 Tundras.... and they will. Wait 3 to 6 months and see if if this idiot dealership is still charging $2500 over MSRP. ;)
  • kdhspyderkdhspyder Member Posts: 7,160
Do some more research. Many dealers even in this first week are selling under MSRP and some just above invoice. If a place doesn't suit you move on.

Too bad the the 5.7 liter engine uses a Timing Belt if i were in the market for a truck i wouldn't want the tundra i rather i have nissan or american made pickup than this.
  • gearhead1gearhead1 Member Posts: 408
I'm pretty sure I've seen cut away pics of the 5.7 and it's a timing chain.
  • toykickstoykicks Member Posts: 95
    its a chain ;)
  • ccsargenccsargen Member Posts: 8
You are 100% correct. I have to retract most of my previous statements. I test drove Ford, Chevy, & Toyota today. I wanted the best truck for the money. The Tundra is by far the best choice. I put a down payment on one and it will be here the 15th of March. Gray (slate)!!!
  • serranotserranot Member Posts: 113
Wow, congrats. I wish I were in the market for a truck right at this moment. I would do the same thing. I am always nervous about the first year of a brand new vehicle, but the Tundra is just really cool and my emotion is getting the best of me.

I hope your purchase works out. I'm waiting to hear from new owners as they trickle in.

    Regards,
    Tom

Do It! I needed a new truck like I needed a another whole in my head. Traded in my '05 F250 V10 on an '07 Doublecab Limited with the 5.7. No comparison. This thing freakin' flies and stops. Ride with the TRD package is good and build quality is, well, Toyota ... great. I'm in Central Oregon and didn't have to deal with any dealer markup but had to fight for a good trade in price. Toyota tends to send the first ones out loaded, too. Also, remember that this truck was designed and built in the USA, including the engine.
    Try it! You'll like it!

Bought a 2001 Tundra in June of 01- Transmission jerked over Christmas 06, Took to the dealer on 1/02/07 who could find nothing wrong. Last week the whole transmission went leaving us stranded on the side of the road looking at a repair cost of 3500.00 To add insult to injury, a salesperson called about an hour after our truck was towed in (same dealership) offering to sell us an 07 Tundra for 27,000 plus our truck. 01 Tundra has 125,000 miles and has never towed anything or hauled anything heavy. I will not buy another Tundra, going back to Ford. Just go rid of a 1986 Ford with well over 250,000 miles. Still ran good but the body was almost gone from rust. I like to keep a vehicle for a least 10 years or more but do not think the Tundra is a good choice right now. Any advice? Just need to truck to haul basic carpentry tools and some building materials occasionally.
  • finallyat150finallyat150 Member Posts: 105
I've been holding out and waiting since I heard of the new design Tundra (I like to call it the T-150, lol). I ordered a green DC SR5 TRD leather, backup camera yesterday. Tulsa dealers are sticking to MSRP. I got mine from local dealer for $1500 off msrp which I can live with. So, you can get one for less than msrp! The truck is very popular around here and I guess everywhere for that matter. But, you can still get a fair deal if you work it.

Congratulations, you qualify for a Honda Ridgeline. Check one out, you'll be pleased. The tranny is a proven design from the Pilot, but it's beefed up with heavy duty components. It also comes with a transmission cooler. 4x8 building materials lie flat in the bed.

The 4.7L has a belt and as noted above the 5.7L has a chain. Problem solved I guess.

Took a CrewMax LTD for a test drive. Awesome drivetrain but the interior is horrible. Went to the GMC dealer and ordered a Sierra Denali with the 403 hp and 417tq 6.2, 6Speed. I've been waiting for this Toyota truck for months now. I drive a 06 Lexus IS350 so I know decent interiors.Maybe Dodge may have a problem, but GM wont lose no sleep over the Tundra.

"Took a CrewMax LTD for a test drive."

I'd sure like to know where you took a CrewMax for a test drive.......? I thought they weren't scheduled for release until sometime in March?
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
A buddy of mine asked me to go shopping with him this weekend for Tundras. I am not a truck guy, but would be interested in tagging along for the ride. He is a service mgr for a GM dealer in NH and has had 2 lemon Sierra's over the past year. Not good. As a manager sure, he is able to get them fixed no problem'o but at the same time the experiences have been totally unacceptable.

So my question is has anyone shopped the new Tundras in NewEngland? Curious about supply, dealer markups, dealer ratings, etc. I believe he is looking at SR5's but wants to step up to the new 5.7.

    Thanks in advance.
  • kdhspyderkdhspyder Member Posts: 7,160
You prolly will love your Denali.

Don't make things up on the Tundra. The CrewMax's won't be here til the end of March.
  • kdhspyderkdhspyder Member Posts: 7,160
Over on Ts several buyers are already reporting deals at $500 to $2000 off MSRP even during the first week. This is a no nonsense approach coupled with Toyota's agressive financing options.

If I was in the market now I'd be ready to deal or walk.
  • finallyat150finallyat150 Member Posts: 105
Come on! The interior is "horrible"? Really? I sure didn't think so, in fact I think the interior is excellent. The new tundra is most definately built with the "big" American boys in mind. By that I mean, big control knobs, big door handles, big (no huge) console boxes, two yes two gloves boxes, wider than a silverado, wider than an F-150, wider than a ram.

If you bought a Denali instead of a Tundra, you didn't want a pickup in the first place.

Enjoy your Denali, a very nice vehicle; but it ain't no truck.

BTW, you didn't test drive a crew max. Not on this planet.

Finally test drove the great Tundra . It was pouring down rain and I wanted to drive a 4X4 ,
the only one available was an SR5 with the 4.7 L , Radiant Red , Black Cloth Bench Seat very comfortable . I took a 20 minutes drive by myself, handling in the rain and hard pressing the brakes no problem at all , took some sharp cornering and it hug the road.
The only problem I had, was getting into the truck this one had no tube steps , I felt safe , high and dry.
I presently own a 2006 Lexus LX 470 with 11000 miles . I can tell you that the Tundra has a very strong feel , I love the way the steering wheel felt , the thickness of the wheel , love the knobs for the AC , great speakers. The comfort level is very close to the Lexus
All four windows were close it took me three tries to close the door tight .
My only complain are the tunnel gauges , that gave me tunnel vision and a headache. Maybe the blue optitron will feel different.
After the test drive I sat inside for another 20 minutes to absorb the huge cabin and all storage spaces within.
The one I really need to test drive is the CewMax Limited , 4X4 , with the 5.7L , before I can make the proper desicion and buy one , plus I need to see if my wife is able to get inside cab with the tube step.
Comparing my Lexus to the SR5 was unfair I would have preferred the Limited edition , but I need to wait a few more weeks for the Limited test drive . Waiting is fine because I am not paying MSRP. I am sure that after 6 months they will be ready for discounts.

I am waiting to trade my Lexus SUV for a new Tundra. I love my Lexus but need something that can tow and haul. This will be my first truck after 30 years of driving. I like leather interiors and would never buy a vehicle without it. I could never buy a Chevy, Ford or GMC because of poor reliability. Toyota Dealers in Puget Sound are offering $1000 off MSRP. I can wait till the action quiets down. Then I will scoop up a DC Limited 4X4 with the 5.7L for cost.
  • ccsargenccsargen Member Posts: 8
I live in AZ and every Tundra w/ a 5.7 L engine has the tow mirrors. I don't like the tow mirrors. The dealership offered to switch them out for me, so I took the deal. Does anyone know if this is a bad idea? Will they, scratch that, should they be able to switch them without any issues? Please advise!
  • muskyfevermuskyfever Member Posts: 20
Let me think. You test drove a crewmax which isnt even going to be made until March? Frickin liar.
  • muskyfevermuskyfever Member Posts: 20
Your post sounds like total BS to me. Anybody who wants a truck that will last will buy a Toyota or a Nissan.

A Ford with more than 250 thousand miles on it? Yeah right.
  • muskyfevermuskyfever Member Posts: 20
Go out and buy a TRD gas cap for like $50 bucks then. Who cares about having a plastic gas cap? I sure as hell don't.

Do you want a quality truck that will last with a great resale value or an American made piece of junk?

I love the fact that the midwestern homers don't like the Tundra or the Titan. Let them have their crappy American made trucks. I'll take a loaded Tundra or Titan and drive off into the sunset with a smile on my face.

If you are happy with your Ford, Chevy or Dodge that's great but don't come on this Toyota board making up lies about Toyota or the Tundra. It just makes you look stupid and erases any credibility you might of had.

Not to mention anyone with half a brain can see right thru these fake "I like the Tundra but I'm an American made homer who is going to try and talk you out of it" posts.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
He lives in Canada, not here in the States guys....

  • muskyfevermuskyfever Member Posts: 20
I wasn't talking exclusively to him except for the gas cap. Most of it was directed at the broader audience. Go out and buy your American trucks since they are made so good. I'll buy my Toyota or Nissan and in the end we will all be happy.
  • rorrrorr Member Posts: 3,630
"He lives in Canada, not here in the States guys.... "

Yes. But the CrewMax isn't available in Canada (yet) either...
  • dreasdaddreasdad Member Posts: 276
They should be able to switch them between the two trucks with out any problems, both pieces seem to match. My self, I like big mirrors and the turn signal in them.
  • finallyat150finallyat150 Member Posts: 105
">I ordered my DC SR5 TRD leather Tundra last last week and was wondering if anybody out there knows aproximately how long I should expect it to take before I take delivery? I understand there are lots of variables to consider, but on average what can I expect based on your past experiences and knowledge.

    thanks.
