I'm working on a deal for an 08' Jetta and I'm being told that I basically have 2 options... 0% for up to 36mos. or 3.9% for up to 72mos. There's gotta be something in between those options. What have you received? Please help me out.

    Thanks

I got a 1.5% lease for 48 months (16,000km's/year). I believe the Financing was 1.9% but I can't remember how long..maybe 60 months. This is in Vancouver BC, Canada tho.

For you, the 0% for up to 36 sounds interesting. I'd be more apt to go for that but I guess it depends on whatthe monthly payments are.

In today's economy anyone who pays over sticker for any car is a B O O B.

    Just wait 'em out.

We bought an '08 Wolfsburg last Monday. VW was offering:
    0% for 36
    1.9% for 48
    2.9% for 60
We went with the 1.9% for 48.
    Hope this helps.

There is only one VW dealer here in Lubbock and they never replies to email asking for quotes, they don't have the specific car i want either. Now I wanna get one in Dallas. Does anyone have any idea about the dealers selling 2008 wolfsburge in Dallas? Or any experience on that? Thank you very much! :)

Check out Metro Volkswagen in Irving, TX. The internet/fleet guys theres are great. I asked for TMV for my Jetta S and they gave it to me. They didnt even put up a fight.

What are the options included with this vehicle?
  • ricoucfricoucf Member Posts: 21
Hello everyone I walked away from this deal and I wanted your thoughts:
Jetta S Automatic $19700 OTD. In florida there is a 6.5% sales tax plus about $150 dollars of govt. reg fees, but I just paid attention to the OTD price nothing else.

Let me know what you guys think?

So we're trying to figure out what to get my girlfriend for her first car. She want's to do the research, etc. No problem, walk into a VW dealership here in the portland metro area, and ask if we can check the car out since she likes german cars and is planning on buying one in about 3 months...

So anyways, they go through the usual banter, she has pretty good credit(650+), no high debt, etc. Told them the credit union will do ~4.2% intrest for 72 0 down.. so they seem cool until they bring out the numbers... apparently, ALL the jettas here in OR go for MSRP + AMV and no one ever complains(ya right)... then they sling up a lease for 2000 down, 48mo, 500/mo.... 10k residual or a possible 26k loan apparently the current rate is 10%, for 60mo 600/mo. geez. Oh yeah, Jetta SE Auto.

So i tell them those are rediculous prices which don't matter since we arent' buying for a couple days and well... i don't think i'll go back there anymore. If anyone knows a good, fair dealership in the Portland metro area in OR for Volkswagon, hit me up. I'm not putting names or anything, but this is rediculous. I got my Acura TSX for under MSRP and i didn't have to kill anyone. This dealership is too proud of their merchandise, and I want her to have a good experience.

I might be able to help, but first you have to identify the dealer who gave you a hard time - we have a number of choices for VWs within 50 miles of Portland, and I too have some opinions, but I'm first curious about the dealer described in your post.

It's perfectly legit to name the dealer - Edmunds prefers we don't talk about actual sales people.

You're right - there is a sense among certain VW dealers that they are dealing in precious metal. Nobody in their right mind pays over MSRP for any of these cars....can't speak to financing, because I don't finance cars [always pay cash].

You can also get some good ideas through Costco's buying program [if you happen to be a Costco member], and through a buying site like CarsDirect. These help you cut through the baloney to get to someone who is serious about selling the car.
  • ponytrekkerponytrekker Member Posts: 310
    Dealer's on crack.

You could get a loaded A4 for less. Or a loaded 3 series for that.

No wonder VW's dealer network is consistently railed.
  • abqnmabqnm Member Posts: 2
In Albuquerque the dealer is taking the position that they can post thousands over MSRP on this hot item. I hope to park my money someplace with very low to zero sales tax and below MSRP. Can any one recommend a dealer willing to do so in the USA?

    Thanks.

Stopped by my local VW dealer b/c I had some time to kill and test drove a Jetta 2.5 SE (not the 2.0T Wolfsburg).

They are having trouble moving these cars.

It drove decently, but I thought the backseat was very spartan, and the center stack trim (around the radio) was tacky, and the climate control dials were cheap feeling - other than that, the interior was well done and constructed.

For the heck of it, I haggled with the salesperson. The car I tested stickered just over 20k (I think it was $20,680 or something).

They offered to sell it to me for $18,300 plus TTL.

I told them I would get back to them. I'm not sure I'm interested at this point as the fuel economy is pretty bad and their are a TON of new car deals that are amazing that are being rolled out now as the economy tanks - I can buy a Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 for 17,200 brand new at a dealer in South Carolina that had a MSRP of 29,900. And the gas mileage isn't that much worse than the Jetta - yes, I am serious.

i also was given a good price on a 08 jetta S model with 5sp for 16,500.00 plus
TTT...this is about 500.00 above invoice and since i counted atleast 50 to 60 jetta's on the lot with nobody around to purchase them i should try and shoot for the invoice price which is 16,100.00......on the other hand,i will be tradeing in a 07 honda civic coupe with auto and about 5000 miles on the clock....girlfriend is expecting a baby next month so we need something that is bigger and safer and the jetta would fit the bill nicely......however,like the other poster mentioned the fuel economy isn't the best in this class......
  • simmons4102simmons4102 Member Posts: 10
No the fuel economy isn't the best in it's class but remember that you are comparing 4cylinder fuel efficency to 5cylinder fuel efficency. You wont find a base model 4cyclinder with more power either. just something to think about...

    Worse mileage, though... :(

I just started to really look at pricing.

I've begun to see ads for Jetta SE models for around 14k.

In fact, there's a dealer that does not play games that just placed an ad in the St. Louis Dispatch newspaper advertising new Jetta Wolfsburg Automatics for $15,300 plus TTL, and yes, that's with the 2.0T.

They have the Rabbit for $13,400.

I'm starting to see more and more of this as the auto market weakens. Don't even get me started about Nissan. They are having a fire sale.

An '08 Jetta Wolfsburg automatic has an MSRP of approx. $22,600 including destination..

No way they are selling it for $15,300....

It's a little shady on the dealer's part, but you have to add $2,000 to the listed price up top. They have it $13,400 roughly.

But anyways, that's not the only dealer advertising for right around there. Most of them just list it at between 15k and 16k.

I was wrong about the Rabbit. It's $13,900, not $13,300.

Wow... I'm glad you provided a link.. A very misleading ad..

    1) The price is after a customer $2000 downpayment

    2) Assumes $500 customer loyalty bonus

    3) Tries to pass off the Jetta SE as "formerly known as Wolfsburg edition". It may be similar to the '07 Wolfsburg, because that model had the 5-cylinder engine.. The '08 Wolfsburg has a turbo and is $2000+ more..

    4) Notice the ad for the Jetta SE at the top... Underneath, they show lease prices for both the S model and the SE model... So, which model is the $13,325 price for? Betting on the S model..

So.... other than the $4500-$6500 difference in advertised price, they are right on the money.. :surprise:

Now.. that doesn't mean they don't possibly have good deals.. but, their advertising would do a Chrysler dealer proud..

Which is why we have these forums... To find out what people really pay for their car..

    regards,

  • climbonboardclimbonboard Member Posts: 9
    kyfdx,

In my reading of the ad, it's even one step more misleading:

Not only does the fine print mention a $2000 cash or trade and $500 customer loyalty bonus, it also mentions $1999 down payment. Given the discrepancy of a $1, and the language used, they can say that the $2000 cash/trade is different than the $1999 down. So:

    $13325 + $2000 + $500 + $1999 = $17,824 + TTL.

And, as you said, this is probably for the base S model.

I have a 2008 Jetta SE w/ mats in south florida (that I got in Dec. '07), and I'm currently paying $285 a month on the lease (for 15,000 miles and 39 months and not 12,000 miles and 48 mos. like the ad states), including all fees and TTL.

So, in my view, this ad is not a good deal at all.

I just perfected a lease transaction this weekend for a 2008 Jetta S with manual transmission an cold weather package + mats. I used Edmunds.com to send RFQs to about five dealerships and I had emails from all of them. They are not usually giving you the quote though, they want you to go and meet their salespeople but I did have two that quoted me the invoice price. After I insisted that I have a better offer from the other one I got one of them to go $100 under invoice. Final negotiated price $17,500 (destination charge and a few other invoiced charges included). It all came down to $232 / month with $0 down for 36 months / 12K (paid though taxes, bank fee and MV fees upfront).

What I really liked is that I conducted all the leasing process via email with the Internet Sales Manager. This took an afternoon of email exchanges with my license, credit application and insurance documentation. Next morning I picked up the car in 30 minutes. It was the most hassle free and easieast way to lease a car I have ever experienced.

The dealership I dealt with is VW Legend in Amytiville, NY. :)

I didnt get the car yet because of financial issue

    Here's What I paid 22.7K OTD

Our tax rate is 7.75% which is in cleveland Cayahoga County

    It was including Spoiler Wing

Any Question let me know I will love to answer that

Congrats on the new 08 Jetta Wolfsburg. I am on the verge of buying the Wolf (also with Spoiler) or the SE.

Am I correct that you got them to $21,000 before taxes, etc? What did they say the invoice was? Do they seem at all more flexible in light of the fact that the 2009s are coming soon? And why did you opt for the 2008 over the 2009?

Any other advice you picked up from your negotiations? I'm looking to buy either in the NYC area or in Georgia.

    Thanks!
  • steven39steven39 Member Posts: 636
i think that he might of purchased the 08 instead of the 09 due to the fact that the 08 has the longer warranty....4-50,000 VS 3-36,000 starting with the 09's....however,on the other hand the 09's include carefree maintenence and the 08's do not....if it were me given the jetta's past reliability issues i would probably opt for the longer warranty with the 08's....just my opinion here and there are also better deals to be had with the 08's.......
  • m6userm6user Member Posts: 3,181
If you buy the 09 you can take the money you would normally pay for maint and purchase an extended warranty. I know it wouldn't cover all the cost of it but based on everything I've read on these forums and my nephew who is a VW tech, it wouldn't be a bad idea to buy an extended warranty on an 08 as well.
  • hondalegendhondalegend Member Posts: 12
Yes it was around 21000 before TTL

They told me invoice was 22000 and u might not to know that 2009 came in the dealership when I got there I saw couple Jetta Wolfsburg 2009 there and there's couple changing thing were warranty (it forced to me to purchase 08 instead of 09) 3 yrs 36000miles (including no cost maintain schedules) and windows chrom molding( Im wondering if I can install it after market or in dealership)
and another reason why I bought 08 is zero% financing on 36month it is going to save several thousands

my advice is u should send a lot of e-mails to near ur dealer at least 5 and then wait them what they r sayin then make an offer like( hey here's what I got so far one of them(need specific dealer name and saleman would be helpful) offer me 21000+ TTL it doesnt have to me true in my opinion they are selling 2008 stock product not the 09 product so below invoice will be possible like me

dont forget to get 0% financing it's worth than 2000$ it depends on ur down though
and I checked the a lot of dealer almost dealer were out of stock wolfsburg edition due to 12500 production in USA

Im more than happe with car (im ex A4 owner 2.0t) u will lke 2.0t with DSG
DSG is just outstanding compare with just automatic transmission
  • hondalegendhondalegend Member Posts: 12
I think that's good idea because long enough extended warranty was less than 1000$ I believe I gotta spend almost 1000$ for maintain schedules

but I couldnt get rid of 0% financing and 1000$ below invoice price
and I basically change the car in 2 years so I dont need that much long warranty
  • biggus12biggus12 Member Posts: 2
Been looking at an 08 wolfsburg.

I was just quoted a price of 22,000 which is a little more than 100 under invoice.

    The details are below.

    ----------------------------------------
    2008 Jetta automatic
    Wolfsburg edition
Reflex Silver on anthracite (black) interior
    Wolfsburg Wing Spoiler
(and a full tank of gas!)

    MSRP $22,950
    Invoice $22,113
    Our August offer price $22,000.
We are also running a $300 gas card promotion this month on all cars delivered by August 31st.
    -------------------------------

Does I'm not getting anybody to beat this (NY long island). Should i be pushing for more than this?

    Thanks!

a few of them have 7 or more wolfsburg models.

Having not purchased a vehicle from a dealership for many, many years, I got quite a shock when we recently shopped around to get on "the list" for a new '09 Jetta TDI.
It is amazing how the dealerships in Phoenix and suburbs stay in business with how dishonest they are.........
Between promising us that their policy is to not mark up over MSRP(even though they do), or telling us that the "Loyal" package does not exist, or promising early delivery dates if we buy from them, or Berge VW in Gilbert pricing $3-4k over MSRP with something called Loan Value pricing, it was rediculous.
VW America really needs to step in and do some policing of their reputation that is being compromised by their dishonest dealers.
  • ponytrekkerponytrekker Member Posts: 310
Since the advent of the internet these dudes have been abused by the public. No more can they four square someone into a ripoff as everyone is armed with invoice prices and availability. Though some dealers have still tried. I had one BMW dealer, Wide World of Cars, tell me that all its cars sell for MSRP. I simply went to the next dealer and bought for a little over invoice.

Then when a vehicle comes our where the demand actually exceeds supply they lick their chops like wolves near a crippled deer and pack on as much excess as the market will allow consciences be damned.

Let these cars sit in their lots, and let these mongrel scavengers choke on the excess.

they lick their chops like wolves near a crippled deer and pack on as much excess as the market will allow consciences be damned.

Do you mean kind of like the way buyers lick their chops like wolves near a crippled deer when dealers are really hurting and have to sell their inventory for next to nothing. I don't like dealers who go above MSRP either but the biz does work both ways. You would try to get as much for your trade as possible.....whatever you can get the dealer to give you.....why shouldn't they do the same?

If you had a trade that was suddenly in high demand should you be called a bloodsucker because you want more for it than before?

after getting past the fact that an SE is NOT a wolfsburg. Im looking at the Jetta SE advertisement. MSPR on an SE is around 20-21k with the automatic. Seeing that their ad says there needs to be 2000 down im still looking at 16k +1000 more because of the loyalty cash and as far as i can tell ~17k for a VW jetta SE. I dont plan on leasing.

am i getting all of this correct?

edit: just read a few posts prior to this. seems as if the 13k price is for an S, still ~18k for an S auto isnt bad that's below MSRP
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 260,883
There is no way to read that ad, and get any idea of what the price really is.... There are so many contradictions and mixed terms and deals, that the ad really means nothing..

Figure out what you think is a great deal, then go to your preferred dealership... Get their price, then make your offer... If their deal doesn't seem good, then move on to another dealer..

Maybe Suntrup VW is a great dealer... Could be... but, don't go by their advertising... It's all gibberish, IMO..

hi folks, just got back from my local vw dealer and iam not a happy camper...went to look at a 09 jetta s model with 5sp that just came in to the dealer....i am tradeing in a 08 honda civic lx 2dr coupe with auto....me and my girlfriend need a bigger car due to baby's arrival next month sometime...anyway,i did my reasearch on the trade-in values on my car at kelly blue book...fair condition was 15,300,good condition was 17,200.00, and excelent condition which mine is with only 2900 miles is 18,200.00 trade-in value....i was thinking to myself i would settle on 16,500.00 but to my suprise the vw dealer offered me the black book value of 13,500.00 and i left the dealership immidietly...these civic's are in high demand now due to the gas prices and when i told the dealer this and also about the higher kelley blue book value he would here none of this.....what a low ball price........
  • pengwinpengwin Member Posts: 74
toss it on auto trader/cars.com/aol auto's im sure you'll get a better price than 13.5k 2900 miles is essentially new

Which South Florida VW store did you go to? Live about 2 miles from Gunther on 441 in Coconut Creek. Almost bought the 2006 Value Edition from them back in late '05 but didn't trust the sales person...just a bad vibe we got.
You're right about being low balled on your Civic...worth way more with such low miles.

In this situation, in the past I just go directly to the local dealer[s] selling the car I want to get rid of, and let them bid on the car.

Get the names of the Honda dealer people actually doing the assessment, and their offers in writing. Then you can either sell to them directly, or point the VW dealer to the phone and tell them to call the person who is offering the highest bid on the Civic.

I've often used this technique when trading at a dealership that is reluctant to give me a good trade value. Never had a problem getting a fair deal this way.
  • ncskibumncskibum Member Posts: 42
In trying to read the fine print, that looks like a lease deal for four years at 12K miles per year. About the only thing you'll get out of it, if purchasing, will probably be the $1000 owner loyalty.
  • ncskibumncskibum Member Posts: 42
Another option is to go to Carmax and have them value your trade. They should be fairly close to what new car dealers may give you but if you like the price, then take the cash and go get your new Jetta. I used this when I bought my last car and the dealer came pretty close to the carmax price. It also seems to me that in order to get the best rade in price on a Honda, you have to take it to Toyota or Nissan. makes their cars look good when they can say, "This guy traded his almost new honda for one of mine."

Want to buy SE Auto with IPOD attachment for my daughter. (she totaled her C 280 MB) Does anyone know of what should I pay in California? Any dealership recommendations would be great.

Wondering 2008 v/s 2009 if change in style, 3 v/s 4 years maintenance offer and price difference are they worth going for 2008 or 2009?

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
