I bought mine at fathers day and received a $50 discount -- I paid about $525 shipped to a business address -- free shipping. Shop around if you decide to buy one -- some sites offer free shipping while others do not.
*It attaches into the existing track system
*It took me about an hour to install -- measured locations for track slide-ins and then tightened them down. I did have to go back and make a couple of slight adjustments -- very easy to do.
*I did not have to remove anything except for the tie-down slide-ins
*It overlaps the truck rail lip -- no rubbing
*It comes with two locks
*It goes on very easy and comes off easy
*It comes with hangers to hang it on the wall
*I've had mine now for several months -- the water proofing strip works pretty darn well (good luck finding something that is completely water tight)
*I had a fiberglass top with my old Chevy -- a real pain in the [non-permissible content removed] to remove and too easy to damage the edge
*This is ABS, and it is durable. I've just used Armoral type protectant on it and it seems to be holding up well (but I must admit -- two months is way too early to know for sure)
*I have a white truck with black trim -- the black cover looks great on the white truck with my black nerf bars
*I'm very pleased with this cover.

I pulled the console myself..he did the "dirty work" then I reinstalled console.
***Total time about 1 hr.
Takes a little getting used to...reverse is the toughest...but getting easier the more I drive.
Heading to the NASCAR race this weekend in VA....be puttin' on about 700 miles round trip... a good long test run w/ plenty of shifts.
I'll report in next week on how it performed.
Thanks Lori
Doesn't make sense to me, but I've not had the time to pursue it.
I'm glad you asked, maybe someone else has the answer.
I like the height of my prerunner (great in traffic as I can see over everything and if I get stuck in traffic I can drive over the median/curb. And tailgaters vanish from view.)
Since I dont offroad (unless a fireroad or two counts) I didn't need the extra cost/complication/more things to break, of a 4x4.
I do believe that the the TRD package has Bilstein (spelling) shocks, where my non-TRD Prerunner does not. Still the same height remember, but just different shocks. (The ride seems just a little bouncy sometimes, but still much much smoother than a lot of other trucks I've been in. And it handles very much like a car.)
But like I started off with...go try some out. That's what dealers are there for.
if the song file is formatted with that information.
The cd has to be burned with the information on it or the
TEXT button will do nothing at all.
This includes store bought cd's as well as cd's that you burn
yourself.
Not all store bought cd's have the required info on it.
Personally, I plan on upgrading to a headunit that can play
mp3's stored on dvd's. I know that JVC makes them
but i haven't investigated it any further.
Neither gives any data when TEXT is pushed. Both CDs provided the text data when I played them in other (non-mobile) players.
Where in Canada do you live, and where did you purchase the K&N filter?
Is it readily available from local auto suppliers, or did you have to order it?
If you don't mind, can you tell us where you purchased your fold-a-cover and what the price was (US dollars?).
I was looking at the fold-a-cover a local dealer today and I'm quite impressed. I haven't made a final decision yet, but I'm leaning towards getting one of these.
Thanks.
I may end up having to go with a roof rack on top of the cab, but I am trying to envision some sort of carrying rack that sits above the bed, and which still allows a bed cover such as a fold-a-cover to be installed and operated while the rack is in place. Ideally the rack would be easy to install and remove. Anyone know of anything like this, or do I have to invent my own?
I realize that one option would be to go with a fibreglass bed cover that I could mount a rack system on top of that. I haven't decided if I like that option.
I'm curious to hear what others have done, or any thoughts about this.
Thanks.
Much appreciated.
Remove the keys from the ignition.
Also, I bought the extended warranty, platinum from Troy at Toyota of Greenfield. For $875 for our 03 4Runner, when the Taco gets closer to using up the factory warranty, I will buy it from him. He quoted me $800 for the '05 Taco DC PreRunner 4x2. Easy guy to work with.

It's a total guess but I have had the truck down shift automatically on some hills as I was breaking so I think there's a certain amount of intelligence built into it's shifting decisions.

I'll post the conclusion of this noise fiasco (if there is one), but was wondering if anyone else had noticed a similar noise. I am wondering if it is related to the clatter noise coming from the clutch throw-out bearing which is one of those "normal" noises that every truck seems to have.
My new '05 4cy had a grinding noise that would occur 1-2 seconds after the engine turned over. It would only occurr after the vehicle sat for a day or so.
The dealer (who I don't deal with anymore) finally replaced the starter with a reman unit on the third trip to the dealer. Noise has not returned.
As for the warranty...that's a good price.
See www . kcovers . com .
It appears that they make a model for the 2005 Tacoma, long and short beds.
Anyone have one of these or seen it in action? Comparison to Fold-A-Cover?
The price seems good, but I don't know what the typical cost of a Fold-A-Cover model is for comparison.
It is linked to another sites' forums so I can't display the info here.
The dealer kept playing the "unable to reproduce" card. I finally had to leave it at the dealer and take the key with me so that it would sit undriven for 24 hours. I then had to drive back to the dealer and start it in front of the service manager and technician so they they would admit to hearing the noise.

One of the things that worrries me is the tailgate on the Taco. I've read a couple of posts here about guys who have bent their tailgate loading a 4 wheeler or motorcycle. I drove up behind a new 05 Taco one night on the interstate that had a motorcycle in the back and his tailgate was bent down in the middle a couple of inches. It wasn't that big of a motorcycle either. One post here said Toyota said the capacity of the tailgate was 200 pounds . . . really? I guess I can't even sit on it if that's the case.
Has anyone else bent their tailgate in normal use?
Is there anything else I should watch out for on my new truck?
Thanks!
I was one of people who wrote in earlier about bending my tailgate. I did this back in Dec. with my snowmobile. Toyota will not fix it for you either. I also know of someone who bent theirs from a 4 wheeler, it is so frustraiting. I got a automotive shop to bend it back for me and I screwed a 3/4" thick piece of plywood to it then covered that with rubber matting so you don't know the wood is there. I have a cap now so the sled doesn't go in the back. I added the wood just in case. If you take the tailgate apart you'll see how cheaply they are made with no support in them at all.
It certainly is lighter and less strong feeling than my B3000 gate was...
