If you like a Sedona and aren't sure about the engine, go test drive one. It might perform just fine for your needs/expectations. Or it might feel slow, depending upon what you're coming from.
Note the variance in 0-60 quotes from the different car mags.
The difference between the Oddy and the Sedona is not that big.the Sedona cost 10K less at least then a top of the line competitor ,and also Kia gives you a better warranty, how much do you have to pay for an extended warranty at least 1K or more, the average lenght of time people keep their cars is about 5 years,i really don't think you will spend 10K more of gas in a sedona versus an Oddy, more 2 to 3K maybe,do the Maths, the sedona is really worth it,and it's a much better choice than those cheap american minivans, get in a Caravan or a ford minivan, you will see a big diffence in quality,i see it with my 2002,imagine the 2006 !
During the drive route I spent some time sitting in the third row seat while my touring partner drove. I found the Sedonas rendition of this often cramped and cruel environ to be realistically comfortable
Unlike my son, Kia has done its homework. In its second attempt at the minivan genre they have nailed it more tightly than some manufacturers who have been building such chariots of practicality for decades. The new Sedona delivers a value-packed punch too swift to be easily repelled by its worthy competitors. Have a look and let me know if you agree.
I guess I'm used to seeing cars launched as early as April that were shown in Detroit. Kia is among the very last to debut after showing their van off in Detroit.
I had a look at at 2006 Sedona base Model LX - just off the truck at a local dealer.
I did not get a chance to test drive but did have a good look at it.
If your in the market then the Sedona is definately worth checking out. Looks not too bad - right in line with Japanese styles. Colour was White with Beige interior. Not the most flattering combination to me.
Impressions:
Nicely laid out. Plenty of cubby holes. Excellent fit and finish inside and out. Dash Similiar to a Sienna Good 2nd and 3rd row legroom Lots of attention paid to in interior. Interior pictures on the web do not do it justice. Good head/shoulder room. Noticably wider than a Sienna. Engine cover is truelly cosmetic - it does not match the actual engine but covers fiddly bits quite well. Rear quarter panels do not appear as chunky as original pictures. Standard 16" tires look huge. Wheel covers nice. Middle seats flip very easy. Back seats stores very easy. Nissan Quest still longer and has more middle seating legroom. Trunk size very good.
Overall - Kia will sell a ton of these. A hands down winner regarding price, warranty and features. These things come fairly loaded from the start.
Also what is the gas mileage for the current Sedona as opposed to the new?
Also glad the gotta have satellite discussion thread came to an end ... I was one of those who said what a waste of money. When I was a boy tv was free, radio was free, and so were directions. With my cable bill ... two phone bills (land line and cellular) ... high speed internet bill ... you get my point I'll be dogged if I'm going to pay for directions to stuff I can find for myself anyway : ) Anyway ... it's a good option for those who want it ... but I'm chomping at the bit to get a look at this new mini-van as I'm holding off my next purchase in order to see it.
Leaning hard to the Dodge/Chrysler ... but if this can beat them? Of course I don't see how with the Americans running such big rebates and all ...
Thanks to you Canadians for keeping us informed .... all posts greatly appreciated.
looking over prices ... not sure sedona will be as competitive on price as some say.
I like Toyota, Honda, and Chrysler products. But ultimately hold Chrysler above others for value ... bottom line I can get a short wheel base fairly loaded for around 20 depending on rebates and negotiating skills
I can get a long wheel base under 25 fairly loaded depending on rebates and negotiating skills ...
Actually can do better ... back in the summer priced out a short for 18,900 alloy wheels and blah, blah, blah, and priced out a long with a touring package ... real loaded for 22,900
Great deals on very nice vans...
Prices are higher now ... but seeing Kia tout a van at 29,000 ... if pricing is firm and now incentives ... despite quoting prices that a comparable Chrysler van will cost more ... I'm certain with incentives and negotiating the Chrysler vans can be had for significantly less ... which takes me to this ... I will be Kia if the new van is comparable and it's price is lowest ... I will only buy KIA if the value is #1 ... otherwise I will buy Chrysler as the #1 value or Honda and Toyota as the class of the pack ... leaving KIA out as a good value, but not the best ... and good van, but not the best.
I'm thinking a great value on a mini-van .... the sweet spot is 20,000 to 25,000 .... not 30,000 .... really nice Chrysler vans can be had for between 20,000 to 25,000 ... I'm not sure KIA is going to do this ... and as a result ... they are no longer a value leader in spite of tire pressure monitoring etc. I will not be ponying up for a KIA that costs anywhere near 30 grand ...
So again I ask why does Canada get this van before the US ... and are KIA dealers as likely to negotiate as the Chrysler dealers or are they as hard and tough as the Honda dealers?
New to this board but have been following the 2006 Kia Sedona for a little while. Has anyone seen any pricing on the 2006? I have checked all the websites I know (even the kiamedia site) and MSRP is not posted anywhere. Just wondering because prior message by luvsavnmuny throws out $29k. I am sure that is for a fully loaded EX model as the LX model for 2005 was MSRP around $21,500. I own a 2000 Dodge Caravan right now and it is a total piece of .... if you ask me. My needs are basic and the 2006 Sedona LX has everything I need (3rd row fold down, cruise control, ABS, bilevel ac, captain chairs in second row) so I am going to try and get a stripped down LX near the middle of the year. I know around August this year you could get a 2005 LX for around $15,500. Hopefully my Caravan will hold out until Aug 2006 and I can pick up the 2006 Sedona LX for a steal.
Went to the local dealership in Mississauga, Ontario (401 Dixie Kia) with wife and 2 toddlers in tow. Not a great experience. The dealership was empty, absolutely no other customers (compared to packed Honda and Toyota dealerships where we had to wait 5 minutes to find a sales rep). No Sedona inside the showroom, even though plenty of empty floor space. Sales rep said they'ld bring the Sedona around, and then began a comedy of errors. The poor guy walked into a back office and back out to the car lot 3 times in freezing cold trying to get keys of some Magentis that had been parked in front of the two '06 Sedonas on the lot. After about 10 minutes of this, I told him to leave the van where it was and we'ld take the kids out to the back of the lot in freezing wind and enjoy the new Sedona there.
Took a quick look at the van inside out. Nothing too impressive. Not on par with the Oddy or the Sienna, which we had just seen, when it comes to interior design (loved the Oddy), interior comfort, ease of use etc. (e.g. folding of 3rd row was not as solid as the other two). They didn't have any brochures or list of features to hand out. Sales rep couldn't even give me a copy of the features list he had on his desk. All in all, even if it was a capable product, the showroom experience left me running away from Kia. We're a few months away from a buying decision, so I might give them another look, but for a brand that has unveiled a significant marketing ad in Canada (full 2-page ads last weekend in the local newspaper) with a new product on hand that is a benchmark for them, they did a poor job marketing it. Too bad.
The SEDONA sales brochures should be at your dealer in the U.S. by this weekend. No SEDONAs yet, but a glance at the glossy will show it will be worth a few weeks wait. Power adjustable pedals(!) for the vertically challenged among us. Features you'd expect to find on only the top of the line HONDA, NISSAN or TOYOTA, class leading horsepower (244) improved mileage (still unknown). Sticker price still a mystery, but I'm betting well below 30k for a well equipped model (heck I can close the doors myself!)
I'm located near Montreal, Canada. At least 3 dealers received one or two sedona06. I've tried it...very impressive. Pricing in $CDN: LX: 29495$ EX: 31895$ EX with electrical package: 33395$ EX with luxury package: 36395$ Shipping: 1295$ Interest rate (lease): 3.07% interesting... but end values are very low.
So that puts the LX at just over $25k in US dollars? Those number are a huge increase over the current model. If in fact they launch that high then I'll be looking toward the other manufacturers.
I'm hoping the price will be close to current levels when released in the US. I can dream until then anyway.
OK, first things first. This is a totally new SEDONA. New 3.8 v6 with variable valve timing giving class leading horespower (244) and EPA 18/25. STANDARD on all models: electronic stability control (ESC) in addition to antilock brakes, ECS has electronic brake distribution for hard stopping with uneven loads, and of course, traction control, cruise control, 5 speed sportmatic transmission, tilt wheel, keyless entry, power windows (all 4!) and power door locks, tri-zone HVAC, intermitant wipers , privacy glass, 6 airbags including full length side curtain...The list goes on and on. THEN you look at options and will realize this is a first-class vehicle. Loaded should come in way under 30k. You cant touch a new honda, nissan or toyota similarly equipped for that, and dont forget the unbeatable WARRANTY.
The info I have indicates that the power sliders and liftgate comprise the power package and the adjustable pedals are part of the (EX only) luxury package option along with back-up assist and everything else mentioned.
ESC (formerly called ESP. I think they got a call from the Psychic Network!), TCS and of course ABS (4 wheel disc) are standard on ALL models and trims.
This is for U.S. models. I can't understand the minor differences in the offerings for Canada and the U.S. Go figure. The new Sonata is certainly "10% more" than the previous incarnation in terms of technology and execution. IMHO
I, for one, also considered the Kia warranty to be a bit of a bonus (although here in Canada their warranty isn't ten years, but the fact they're standing behind their cars in the US market for 10 years is a positive), but if you check out the current Kia Sedona forum there seems to be a lot of current Kia owners ripping into Kia's warranty policies. So is it really of value, or just another marketing ploy? Are warranty claims getting ok'ed in the long-run, beyond the typical auto warranty period? Any experiences from Kia owners?
That's a pretty big jump given the old ones actually sold for peanuts, street price. I bet you can get 'em for $22k soon enough. The Sonata gets deep discounts already, for reference.
Every single concern we've had with our 2002 Sedona has been addressed under warranty. We are nearing 60k miles which will be the end of our bumper-to-bumper coverage. Our dealer is eager to fix our van's problems but not always competent or organized enough to fix it right the first time.
Still, I've had absolutely none of that 'we can't look at that' or 'we can't fix that' because Kia won't cover it under warranty that many vehicle owners (Kia brand and other brands) experience fairly often.
Example: after about 2.5. years and 40k miles, the driver's seat cushion leather was starting to crack. It wasn't excessive, but I wasn't happy with it. Dealer ordered new part under warranty, no questions asked. Actually, they ordered the seatBACK upholstery and replaced that, which didn't need replacing. Once the seat cushion upholstery was replaced, I had myself a completely recovered new leather skin on the driver's seat of a 50k mile, nearly 3 year-old van. Not bad.
Kia seems to be banking on customers recognizing and appreciating many of the features that are standard equipment on the 2006 Sedona but optional on competitor minivans.
I'm sure it won't be long and we'll see street prices coming down well below MSRP, aided by incentives.
I'm looking forward to checking out this van. Our '02 EX is soldiering on just fine and we can't really afford to trade up, but the '06 sounds like a really nice package and it should hold up competitively for at least a couple years until Honda and Toyota revise/redo their vans and catapult well ahead once again.
I just picked up a brochure from a dealer in St Louis, MO. NO vans yet, supposedly this week though.
There is only 2 options packages available and they are only available on the EX.
Power Package includes Dual Power Sliding Doors Power Liftgate
Luxury Package Includes Leather seat trim Front seat warmers power adj pedals driver seat, mirrors and pedal memory front auto temp control steering wheel audio controls back up warning system sunroof engine immobilizer
Looks to me the ONLY other option is an 8" rear DVD, available spring 06.
Hope this helps some other people like me that have been waiting a long time for any information.
Still no pricing info except "Mid-twenites"
Hopefully the dealer will call me this week and I can get more pricing info. They tell me they are on a truck in the state of MO, and should have them anyday.
We were shopping and driving an Odyssey when we went to the affiliated Kia dealer (Southern California). They had two brand new '06's in stock. We drove an EX (no leather) immediately after driving an '06 Odyssey. Impressions:
Great feature sets for price Mostly competitive with Ody on overall size, features Size appears a tiny bit smaller than Ody (especially width), even though based upon brochures it is a tiny bit bigger Cushions in middle row pretty soft with cloth upholstery Engine noticeably less refined than Ody, loud exhaust note Power rear gate and power doors noticably noisier mechanisms than Ody
While we were pretty impressed, we decided to stick with the Odyssey. The overall quality and refinement was still a little lacking. We don't know the reliability or the crash test scores. But it is a great value for those who are more price sensitive than we, and may be a lot better than most of the other minivans.
I stumbled upon this and thought all would be interested www.kiasedona.com. I tried putting a link but it will not take you to the site. Type in and see if you get the 2006 Sedona Site.
I didn't look at it closely. I think the price on the sticker for the Sedona EX w/o leather that we drove was about $27K and change. There were a few dealer markups (prep, protection, etc.) that put it into the $28K range. Since we weren't real serious, we didn't pay a lot of attention.
I just test drove the 2006 Sedona as well. Overall, I was impressed. Interior craftsmanship is of high quality with plenty of room for all passengers, even the third row. The model I tested was an EX with power and luxury packages with a sticker of $29,665. The one negative thing I will say is that the engine is not as quiet as the Honda or Toyota upon acceleration, but is quiet when idling or at cruising speeds. For the most part, it is on par with the Japanese minivans but clearly a huge step above the American made vans. I am going back to the dealership with my wife on Wednesday and hopefully we can make the numbers work.
Glacier Blue LX ... right now the best value is Chrysler ... period ... and we were tempted to go that way ... but we didn't ... traded out of a '99 Plymouth that was nothing, but good to us. The van is absolutely sharp looking in this color ...
Anyway ... pondered on the EX vs LX ... for us there was no glaring feature difference that compelled us to step up ... the LX had all of our must haves like fold into the floor seats and side CURTAIN airbags ...really would have liked the automatic headlights, the lighted vanity mirrors, radio controls on steering wheel with cassette, and alloy wheels ... but none of those were make or break.
I can add alloy wheels after market for example ...
I really wonder one thing .... could we swap out the unlighted vanities for lighted ones ... meaning does KIA wire it up for lights, but then either puts on the lights or doesn't ... and could we swap them out for the lighted kind? Or is the wiring not there for it? It's the biggest little thing my wife wanted that and a power pedals ... but we couldn't see paying 2500 more for a lighted vanity mirror LX vs EX ... or 2000 more to get the package with the power pedals
Gave us a good trade ... on the PLYMOUTH ... now that I'm home need to sit down and crunch the numbers ...
Very happy ... although ... noticed a fit and finish problem ... the hood is off center ... meaning the gap line between the hood and the body is very tight on one side and very wide on the other ... it's noticeable ... and so I'll have to go back to get that adjusted ...
Less than a hundred miles ... and no regrets ... got it for a little under msrp ... but not much in the way of deals ... just hard negotiating got me what little off that I did ... there going to do well with this product for sure.
although get this the old sedonas that have a 3500 rebate ... the rebate is going to 4250 later this week ...
but the side screen air bags were a make or break for us ...
You probably can install the vanity mirrors, swap out the whole visor. I know that Subaru pre-wires them, for instance. Look for the wires before you buy, though. Maybe try a mirror and a flashlight, pry it back carefully?
