Too bad, thought the pictures looked good.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
Oh, nothing 'bad' about, but I just didn't get the 'now guys will like it' comments from some of the articles. :confuse:

Maybe if they stuck a Hemi in it....
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
They made Beetles in Brazil until... 1986? IIRC.

Down there the Baja Bug was popular. Basically big tires and fender flares, raised clearance.

Couldn't do that today on a FWD platform, though. They could fake it, I suppose.

On the DC Beltway this morning.

Saw a Prius V today, going about 10 under with maybe 6 cars behind it.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
Spotted (2) Prius V's and a slew of new Camrys (exterior styling is not wearing well IMO, compared to the outgoing one).

Also spotted a pair of new CR'V's, one red and one in a carbon gray. This one I think looks better than the outgoing one.

Lastly, a new Impreza hatch in Boston. Sport model.

Saw a new-new Beetle today. The lavender color pretty much destroyed VWs stupid aims of pretending the car is somehow more masculine. And I noticed it has a face that reminds me of a dumb dog. Should continue to sell to the same demographic anyway.

I like the new Beetle done in the retro look in black with black looking steelies and metal dog dish hub caps. Less girly than the previous one imo.

Actually, I like those wheels and hubcaps too, odd retro touch for that car. Seemed familiar to me somehow, then I realized what it reminded me of - current Matchbox cars:

Lavender color? No lavender on the configurator.

a white ...uh..."hatchback-fastback" BMW 535i in the parking lot at work.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,429
Hmm. Closest thing I see there is the "denim blue", but hard to match a configurator to real life. Either way, not a good color, but for the demographic, it will work fine.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,429
"Hunchback" works well for that, while the rest of the world continues to get the much more stylish wagon.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Impreza sales are off to a very strong start, up 87% last month. I think the snow belt crowd had been waiting for a fuel sipper.

I saw my first CR-V in the flesh also. A bit extroverted for Honda.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Don't hold back, tell us how you really feel. :D

Saw a black one, maybe Black Betty again?

The Impreza will carry Subaru this year, like the Outback did in 10 and the Forester in 09. Question is, will people get anywhere near those EPA ratings or not?

They are in the 2012 Impreza thread, actually. Low 30s is common.

The CVT uses very tall gearing cruising on the highway.

It worked on the Outback, too.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Looks better in black.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
This time a sedan, in red. This new design seems much more cheery to me, I don't know how to explain it. Maybe it's the new satin grill.

I'm looking forward to checking out the XV. :shades:

Black Impreza, they are hitting the roads now.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
They need to start building those (or Foresters, or both) in Indiana.

Kick Toyota out of SIA, and run the 2nd assembly line there.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,429
Someone in my building just bought a new 370Z, bright blue. Brand new, temporary permit issued today. It parks 3 spaces from me, I could even smell the newness form there.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,429
New CRV this morning, out in the mildly snowy weather.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
Spotted (2) new CR-V's, one black and one silver. Went by the Honda dealer nearby to see them for myself and the place was certainly hopping as well. Didn't bother trying to find a sales rep (they were all busy) since I knew I wasn't going to buy and I had better things to do than spend 3 hours going thru the runaround.

Also spotted a new Camry at the Honda dealer. A V6 Sport model with 8500 miles on it. They wanted $24,500 which was tempting.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
And a not so new spotting but my friends 2004 BMW 330XI overheated and burst into flames on Friday night.

Total loss... Shame it was a fantastic car, pretty much drove like brand new, even with 304,000 miles on the clock

In between the hundreds of Subarus and Audis in the employee parking lot I spotted one brand new C250 coupe.

PS Skiing > snow boarding, but the kids feel the opposite way

PS Skiing > snow boarding, but the kids feel the opposite way

I agree with your kids. Riding is soooo fun.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I may be the old dog who can't learn new tricks, but I can skate board, water ski, slalom water ski, stunt ski, ski jump, ice skate, and snow ski ... and I could not pick up snow boarding.

Kids whined about the ski boots even though they fell down a lot less on skis.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
I started boarding at 42. Best tip I learned was to look and point where you want to go. Your body will naturally turn in that direction.

Keep your knees bent and always lean downhill. And never ever look down. I always fall when I focus on where I am as opposed to where I want to be.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    I'll tell the kids.

Falling on my tail bone hard once was enough for me.

OTOH, I had not gone skiing in a while and picked it right back up. Had a ball, actually. :shades:

I switched from skiing to snowboarding when I was ~48. Still hoping to go soon; most of the hills are finally open around here. Hard to spot anything new with snow all over the rigs.

We must have a dozen Subaru's at work. 3 inches on snow today, and only 1 showed up. Posers.

Saw 2x A7 today, surprised how many of these I have seen given the price of admission.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Posers? Maybe they were out playing in the snow. :shades:
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
Sedan, black base model with hubbies, and a Hatchback Sport model with the bigger Premium wheels. THought I would like the sedan better but the hatch is growing on me. :shades:
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Bingo.

I'm essential staff so I'm that one who makes it in to work.

Funny how I'm "essential" when it's time to work but not when it's time to hand out the big paychecks! :D
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    These are slowly becoming common.

I see more new Camrys and that just came out recently.

I have seen a couple of Mini Countrymans lately.

I spotted a Lamborghini Gallardo Spider, orangy-red w black hood, top down.

Top down? Wow, aren't you in New hamster? That's gotta be mighty cold! :D
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Nope, I'm wintering in AZ, highs in the upper 60s. ;)

I saw my first new Chevy Sonic, a red 5dr hatchback, nice looking but a bit conventional compared to a Focus

New ones seem tall. Then again, from the point of view of a roadster, everything seems tall.

Did a U-turn thru the median to get out of traffic, funny. Probably about as far off road as it will ever go. :D
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
5 doors look really good, still a fresh design even though I've seen a bunch.

    I love the taillight detail.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
Nothing exciting but a new hatch passed me as I was merging on the highway yesterday afternoon.

A neighbor of mine brought home a new Camry last night, Black SE V6. Had a current gen Impala before it. I think he must've gotten a healthy Christmas bonus or something because his wife has also been driving around in a brand new loaded Venza for the past month or so (used to drive a Saab 9-4x).

Going to try and check out the new Impreza this weekend. :shades:

C&D tested all the B-segment cars and they actually found the Yaris to be one of the more fun-to-drive ones.

    So much for stereotypes.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,429
    edited January 2012
Oh boo hoo, could the "stereotype" be from truth? Previous iterations of the Yaris rank pretty much in the penalty box category, especially the awkward trunkback versions.

Toyota has crafted its own image, can't cry about anyone passing judgment.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Don't shoot the messenger. I was actually surprised, too.

    Chill?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,429
Meh, nothing to chill about, just don't get the commotion when anything critical is said about Toyolex. It's not an unfounded stereotype. 20 or so years of beige builds expectations.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
No commotion except from you this time...
