I saw one today too, sleepy dark red, fog lights on in the partial sunshine of course, because fog lights are superkewl :shades:

The driver was on an evaluation run, including the Dunkin's stop.
Also, Drove a Prius V about 40 miles.

...black Audi A4 peeling out of the Sunoco at Rhawn and Verree in NE Philly like a bat out of hell when I was filling up my wife's Buick LaCrosse. Looked like a really young guy behing the wheel. Wonder if some trust fund kid got an early "Decemeber to Remember" Xmas gift?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,507
If all he got was an A4, maybe he was mad that the trust fund was managed by Bernie :shades: But seriously, you can lease those for no more than 400/month during sweetheart deal time no doubt. Now if it was a A8, which can now fly past 100K, I would have been impressed.

You can't lease Audis cheap, now.... All of them are pricy, in comparison to their MSRP....

A nice A4, with only first payment upfront is closer to $550-$600... The new model that came out in 2009 has been a big seller...

We saw a new S5 coupe with the V-8, today... Might be the best looking car on the road.. only 354 HP, though... which is a little short for a current V-8...

I saw an ad from the dealer in my down for a 39 month $379 A4 deal, but this was with $2800 up front. I bet any leftover 11s might be cheaper. $449 for an Avant, which is a nice looking vehicle and still fairly unusual.

Now if they'd do those prices on an RS6 (if we ever get it) or an A8 or R8 :shades:

You don't like dark red for cars? That's the 2nd time I've seen you criticize that color, why? Just curious.

Never owned a red car. Well, my Mustang was more a Rust Orange/Red, which was convenient to mask the actual rust. :D
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Silver Volt. Probably the same one I see about once a week or so.

Also, Halloween orange Sonic LTZ, looked like a flying pumpkin. I'll admit, though, it's bull dog ugly, in a way, and has grown on me. I hear they're on the heavy side, though, and loaded up they get spendy for a B-segment car.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,507
It's such a middle aged woman's color that some seem to think has a pretense of sport. But I am glad to see I fascinate you ;)

I like various forms of blue and grey the most. I will admit on a few models, I like white too.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
You'd love my all-blue fleet, then.

I'm not a fan of dark read either.

I do like real red or as my wife calls it "street walker red". My old Shelby was that color and I liked that it drew some attention. I'm hoping to get a red like that on my next car.

I like white as well. Silver has become so banal. Dark blues are meh.

I just wish manufacturers brught back some colors to interiors.

Has to be the right car. Ferraris should all be red. :shades:

    I totally agree.

Seems like nowadays you can choose between black, white, pearl white, beige, silver, gray, dark gray, really dark gray, light black, off white, and did I say gray?

Actually, Ferarris should be yellow. I read once that was their tradtional color.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Nah, yellow is the color of surrender. ;)
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
With a little research, what became FIA recommended the following colors for race cars based on their country:

    Italy Red
    Germany White
    France Blue
    England Green.

The yellow in Ferrari's logo represents Modena, their home city.

Hence, IMHO yellow is the color for Ferrari as the red is terms of racing is not exclusive to them.

All Benzes should be Silver. I can't even picture some of them white.

White only looks right on a few specific cars. Remember the 4DSC Maximas had that pearl white? That was the "right" color for that particular car.

Subaru has a really nice pearl white now, too, for the Outback/Legacy.

WRX must be Rally Blue. Other colors should be ticketed. ;)

BRG for any/all roadsters. Wish Mazda offered it on mine.

Just did a Bing image search for Ferrari and was surprised to see the first pic was a yellow Enzo, second was just a logo shot, third was a yellow Aurea, the next one was gray, followed by a white one.

95% of the rest of the pics appear to be red. :)

Most of the first 25 hits on Goggle images are red.

I associate a "classic" Mercedes with black. C-Class with white. And you are dead on about BRG. With a tan top/interior in the case of a Miata.

There's a white W211 E63 AMG P030 car in my area, with pano, that is very hot.

Silver MB is cliched. I am one of those who is tired of silver cars. It seemed new and slick 15 years ago, but is now overplayed.

    I'd like a blue Ferrari.

Grey A7 just drove by my window.

I heard the local Lexus dealer has a LFA, so as it is just a few blocks away, I drove by - not there of course. Stopped by the MB dealer to drop off a few things for their toy drive, saw a black C63 coupe with red interior, and a loaded up S63 among some normals.

Monochromatic white cars, with the right bumpers, can look great.

More basic cars with black trim stripes look awful in white, so it really depends.

For some reason I like Lincolns and Caddys in black, I guess to offset the chrome.

The Enclave looks good in that brown/copper color.

To me yellow is for Nissan Frontiers with 4x4 stickers and boxy toaster mobiles. Works on certain cars.

Silver one, dropping a kid at school.

Woman was on the short side, and must have had about 2 feet of air space between the top of her head and the ceiling.

Cheapo cars with black strips need to be a dark color. I don't like black cars, a pain in the butt to maintain - only good if you just don't care anymore.

Brown has really came back, I have seen a number of mostly lower to middle highline cars in brown lately. Brown W212 didn't look too wrong.

Yellow...hmm...Honda Beat maybe? Or some later muscle cars.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Anything too dark is a pain. Swirl marks on my (very) dark blue Miata are a royal pain in the neck.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,507
You have to wax it a lot, the only cure. My dark grey car is the same way.

The Meguiars spray wax and detailer are excellent for maintaining a dark finish inbetween waxes.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
To avoid swirls you're best not rubbing in circles. When waxing use horizontal strokes on the sides and straight lines front tot back on the top.

Also avoid using synthetics except for microfiber cloths. My cars have few swirl marks in them.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,507
    I use the same methods.

Microfiber cloths are a gift from heaven. My dark colored car always looks good.

There is no "official" Ferrari color but bright red is the traditional racing color of Italy and since Ferrari has such a strong racing heritage most people think of it as the signature color of Ferrari. The current shade is an fluorescent red-orange called Rosso Corso (Racing Red). In earlier times they used a less orange-y shade that most of us would call Fire-engine red.

Fly Yellow* is a lemon yellow and has been used on many Ferrari racers but not usually by factory teams (Scuderia Ferrari). The team most commonly associated with yellow is the Ecurie Francochamps which was based in Belgium where yellow is the traditional racing color. *(Fly=Ferrari Light Yellow).

Luigi Chinetti's US-based North American Racing Team (NART) raced Ferraris painted white and/or blue, white those being the traditional race colors of the USA.

Yes, Rosso Corsa is the most popular Ferrari red, although there have been many different variations and shades of red in the past.

Red on tan is the most common and desirable color combination on any Ferrari, especially for first time Ferrari owners.

I think that's a Grigio Alloy or something similiar. Grigio is grey in Italian and there are quite a few variations of it.

I saw one of those this afternoon, it was black or dark grey. On a flatbed tow truck. I hope the car was just parked illegally and towed rather than broken...the truck was smoking like it was on fire too.

Also saw a new C coupe - silver, and a new A8, which is still looking very sharp and probably a nice alternative to the rapidly aging S-class.

Ugh! Black was the worst choice for somebody who is as OCD about his cars as I am! I go through a lot of that Meguiars Instant Detailer with my DTS!

The Quik Detailer in the black bottle is a good product, along with the similar "wax" product. That DTS must have been a bargain for you to pick black - I will never do it.

I have some Meguiar's detailer spray, but it is made for something that's pretty clean to start with.
Adam's is more watery, but I like it better.

Yes, it's to detail a clean car. Just as their spray wax isn't really to wax a car, but to rejuvenate old wax. It's still handy for dark colors.

OCD Black Fiat 500, though it's in the school teacher's parking lot so I see the same one often.

Parked on my street a silver Benz GLK 350. Oddly the lug nuts were rusty - all of them. Odd? Looked like OEM wheels.

Also a new Explorer dropping kids off at school.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
This will sound funny but I did *not* see a 5 door Impreza, and I also did *not* see a Kia Rio.

Went to check out VW Eos for my dad at King VW/Kia (he's leaning towards a 200 'vert, though). Saw a black Kia Rio 5 door out front, but it was not available for test drives, as it had already sold. The lot had lots of Sorentos, Optimas, and Souls, but no Rios.

Fitz Subaru is a block away so I stopped to check out a new Impreza. No 5 doors in stock, and the next 5 are pre-sold already. They had one single sedan, a base model, but I would have to wait 1-2 hours in line to test drive it. Huh?

This was a stripped base model, manual trans, basically bare-bones. They added a nice padded dash cover to it, and it definitely looks better in person. For the first time ever, I think the sedan looks better than the 5 door Impreza, though I'd still pick the 5 door. Base model had the cheap plastic wheel covers and the interior lacks a lot of features from the high end model. Price at $18 something, but either step up to a higher end model, or buy used. It's just too bare bones. I wonder if the dealer ordered it as a demo model, knowing it would not sell quickly?

I'll go back when they have a Premium or Limited 5 door, then drive one.

I got into my car after dark and noticed a familiar shape parked nearby, it was familiar but different, as if you'd stretched a Saab 9-5 sedan and squashed the roof a little. Then I realized it was a new (post-GM) 9-5, perhaps the second I'd ever seen and I guess (given the bankruptcy of Saab autos this week) one of the last.

Saw a white C63 AMG coupe today on the road, and on local craigslist a local dealer has listed an SLS Cabrio...yeah, that's where you'll find a buyer.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Newer Saabs come with no warranty, they're being sold as is. Buyer beware.

GM is picking up the tab for Feb 2010 and prior Saabs, when they owned them.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
First time in the flesh, a white one. The nose is more pronounced, to meet euro pedestrian crash standards perhaps? Looks a lot like the old one but the round fender flares are gone.

Also, a friend dropped off her kid for a play date in a new R-class. They lease so they get a new car every couple of years, husbby has an E class. Wife is an amatuer body builder/stay at home mom.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,507
My local MB dealer has a fleet of new MLs for loaners now, easy to spot with the windshield banner. They will still nail that demographic, anyway.

Must be nice getting a new car for free :shades:

I am out in podunk, of all things to see on the road here yesterday, saw an IS-F - must have been someone passing through or visiting, no Lexus dealer for almost 2 hours in any direction, and there's not really many around who could afford that car anyway.

Also took my cousin's family's new Durango for a little spin, it's actually a pretty nice rig, still a big of a bus, but it drives easy enough, seems very well assembled, and has high quality interior materials. Chryfiat is trying, anyway.
  • iwant12iwant12 Member Posts: 269
I really like that new Durango. It's just a tad larger than what I really need as far as cargo capacity and overall size. I went with the new Grand Cherokee, which is on the same chassis and also the same as the Mercedes M class. It offers a great button-downed ride and like you said the interior materials are a big notch above the Dodge/Jeep of yore.
  • iwant12iwant12 Member Posts: 269
Spotted a new CR-V coming home from work today. Don't know if I like it any more than the previous body style, but I can appreciate it for what it is: a nice size CUV with good gas milage ratings. Not my cup of tea but probably fits the needs for a large demographic.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I liked the Durango Citadel model we sat in at the auto show in January...but for $49k we certainly should be impressed.

What I've been seeing a lot today are Explorers - probably 3 or more of those.

Also lots and lots of new Camrys around here.
