Saw my second new GS on the road, a grey F-sport model, also a deformed new Nissan Quest (rental I am pretty sure) and a freshly plated Rio trunkback sedan.

Wagon, I see far more wagons on the road, in fact saw another Impreza today.

Also saw a Leaf. Still rare here.

    And a Veloster.

    And a Veloster.

Been seeing more and more of them in my neck of the woods, guess they are selling well.

Seen a few of them on my highway commute. Funky styling, not sure if I like it. I still think the the front end with all the "Slits" makes the car look like it was in a knife fight... and lost.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
They've sold a bunch, though, and when you consider that it's basically an Accent underneath, for a lot more money...

and it hasn't hurt Accent sales...

and it hasn't hurt Rio sales...

I'm sure they've had to hire more accountants to count all the profits on that cash cow.

The last remaining Swede seems to be getting a boost, sales-wise as I have been noticing a ton of S60's and new XC60's in my area. Both are very sharp looking cars IMO, although I think the front end styling works the best on the XC than it does on the S60.

Oh, and the XC90 seems to be a pretty long lasting vehicle as well, I see a ton of them on the road as well, most of them the older T-5 and 3.2 models. My wife and I were actually driving to the Cape last weekend and we were literally sharing the highway with (5) XC90's at the same time! I also looked over at the traffic heading the opposite direction adn saw (2) more at the same time...

I don't know if it is indicative of the overall state of Volvo at the moment, but I am glad to see they are still selling well as I have always really like the style and that minimalist Scandanvian interior sheme. :shades:

For the past month or so, I have been passing the same guy almost daily driving a decked out Tiguan SEL. Gotta say, it is probably the most handsome of the "Cute utes" IMO. I like those flared 19's, it makes it look a bit brawier than a regular Tiggy.

Also, seeing a few more of those new Passats. I don't know... ya, it's a little more generic than the older Passats, but for some reason it just looks more solid and the details really make it a handsome vehicle, especially in Black when it's been detailed up.

Got passed by a CC yesterday as well. One of the best looking cars on the road IMO. At least in the under 40k pricepoint :D
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Wonder what that Tig cost, though. They really get up there.

I think the Q5 is much nicer looking, and of course costs more.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
I priced out an SEL and got it up around 35k with pretty much all the options. An SE would satisfy me though and that one rung in around 32k.

From what I gather, the new Escape can get into the middle thirties as well, so the price isn't unnusual.

I used to like the Q5, but the S-Line is really the only trim I like and that sucker is almost 50 grand :surprise: Yikes. I'd rather get an afformentioned XC60-T6 and 60 thousand miles of maintainence for 41-42 grand. I think the Q uses premium as well if I am not mistaken?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,356
I don't care for them much, but I do really like the Kia Soul (and see quite a few of them).

And yes, I am way the heck older than their target demo, but that never stopped me before! Though my wife might have a cow if I brought one of them home.

You can get an SEL with NAV .... up around $38K.. :surprise:
I like the way the 19" wheels look, but that's a crazy size for that size vehicle...

Saw a new Acura ZDX today.. they are not growing on me....

Isn't that 38 grand number including the Dyna-Audio package tho? I don't know what is so special about it, but it's a 3 thousand dollar add-on which is why I didn't include it in my build.

Edit: Just noticed the upgraded Nav with touchscreen is in that price as well. Still the SEL Premium gets a Navi which is what I would get.

I do agree tho that 35 grand for a compact ute is a bit much.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Premium fuel I'm sure....

Co-worker has one. They're quite nice, if a bit on the small side. She replaced her BMW X3 with one. Hubby has an Audi A8. They use the A8 for trips. She commutes to DC in her Q5.

Spotted a white one and then a Silver one at lunch today.

Then a White Fiat Abarth, are they on sale yet? :confuse:

    Yes they are.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Even more rare - her X3 had a manual trans.

Only Lux CUV owning working woman who can drive stick in the whole world, pretty much.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,419
She must have been be quite a catch. Stereotypes are only 99% accurate I guess. Heck, my mother once had a Beetle with a Porsche 912 engine...now she drives a white Camry.

Saw a facelift Taurus today, I wager a rental.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Saw a Leaf.

    753 CR-Vs and 986 Camrys.

Old school - spotted one of those Olds Cutlass Supremes from the "this is not your father's Oldsmobile" era.

GM really missed with those GM10s. A big, FWD 2 door when everybody pretty much wanted the exact opposite.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
    753 CR-Vs and 986 Camrys.

lol, You beat my score by a dozen Camry's but I think I've seen a hundred more CR-V's than you :D
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Camry may take a hit as Nissan is dumping Altimas now big time.

Heard an ad for a local dealer, $19,999 plus freight for a Camry, but the Altima was $16,999. Same dealer, too.

Talk about a bargain....they've gotta be losing money at $17k.

Guess they are blowing Altimas out because the redesigned 2013s go on sale on June 26. $22,280 plus $780 destination for the base.

Redone 2013 Nissan Altima pricing, sale date, details (USA Today)

    $17k is cheap.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
For sure, and the new one is supposed to get a 37mpg rating, which will make consumers go wild.

Scratch that, gas is almost free again. They won't care until the next time gas prices spike (consumers are naive and think short-term).

$17k plus freight and $89 processing, IIRC. Still dirt cheap. Those are big sedans.

My buddy in Annapolis has one. The seat's way too low for my tastes, hard to get in and out of. The CVT is actually good, Nissan should teach other companies how to get those right. His stereo is also quite good, and it's not even a loaded model. Decent car overall and a real bargain at that price.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
There's boxy, and then there are boxes.

The Nissan NV is a box. It could be the box a Leaf came in.

These things make 60s Dodge vans seem downright sexy! :D
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
One thing that is lacking in the Camry that I was really surprised about was the headroom, especially with the moonroof. Otherwise, it was a solid, well built car and a notch or 2 above the Altima IMO. It's probably the first Camry interior that I have actually been Wowed by in my life.

But buyers will probably overlook that if it comes down to the pricetag.

With the air scarf thing, looks a bit odd when deployed but I get that it's functional.

That is a serious deficiency I've noticed on several Toyota's since I'm over 6ft tall. I can't get comfortable with the sunroof, so it precludes me from considering something like a Camry other than the base models since leather requires a sunroof. Base model Toyota's sometimes seem a bit short in thigh support as well on longer drives. I've also found some of the Ford's lack legroom for taller drivers. Luckily, there are lots of choices out there, so it pays to test drive thoroughly or rent before you buy.

A working woman in an Q5?

Just saw her, she showed me a receipt for a brake job: $978.

Ridiculous. It's 2 years old with 16k miles, a grand for brakes already?

No wonder they need 2 incomes.

Edit: IIRC front pads for my NA Miata were under $20. Later a rebuilt rear caliper was $30 something. I guess Hans needed to make the next boat payment.

she showed me a receipt for a brake job: $978.

Things like this make me very aware that I will never own a German car.

I know that there is a possibly the dealer is very expensive and replaced more than necessary, but still. :confuse:

Audi pads + Audi rotors + Audi labor? $1k, easy!
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
    :surprise:
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I think they itemized it like this:

    $85 parts
    $120 labor
    $773 for Hans' boat
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Range Rover wanted to charge a different co-worker $880 a set, that's $1760 for all 4. :surprise:

His tires are also over $300 each. Would have been $3 grand for tires and a brake job.

Probably wears the brakes to stop all that inertia of the giant wheels/tires it came with.

Today I saw, for the first time, the convertible Nissan Murano, driving around with the roof up. OMG, what an awful mess! Steel top versions of it look just fine but add that awkward looking roof and they've come up with an eyesore worse than an Azz-tek. I wouldn't have thought it possible.

Got to see on from the backside today on my way into work. Looks nice. I'm still surprised the Scion version is not also being cross-badged to Toyota as the new Supra.

I think it would need more power to be named Supra.
As a Toyota, it would be a Celica.

One of the five local dealers I checked has one listed as in stock.
I was there a couple of days ago, but didn't walk around much.
Maybe it was there. It's a top 'o the line Titanium model.
    There's $500 customer cash available.

Actually the Scion TC is the Toyota Celica if it was to be rebadged. They could smack a Twin Turbo or a Supercharger for the boost in HP if needed.

To quote always reliable Wikipedia ( ;) ), according to Scion, tC stands for touring coupe.

    I like your version better.

If Winner doesn't have one yet, they probably aren't allocated yet. They always seem to get good allocations. When I was looking at the Taurus they had a nice selection.

I looked at Holman Maple Shade and they don't have any either.

crazy. I have a quote for the Odyssey to do all 4 corners, with brand new rotors/pads, for $600. If I want to just keep the old rotors the pads/labor will only be about $300.
