This morning I saw a black Maserati sedan and a Mercedes Sprinter van. Not a Dodge, but a Mercedes...it had the star and the emblem, etc. It was a MB dealer service vehicle, so for all I know it was a Dodge with a different front end assembly.

I've been seeing them lately with FREIGHTLINER badges, too... The only thing that's different, as far as I know, is the badge on the grille.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
....new to me, anyway. Today, I saw a Volkswagen Pointer City with plates from Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Both are quite an unusual sight in Chicago. The car looked OK, kinda cheap and generic but not tiny; certainly not the car I'd want to do a 2000+ mile road trip in, though!

The Mazda dealer at our Automall just received a shipment of the new Mazda5. I don't know if the US is getting it too but it's a subcompact minivan/tall wagon with three rows of seats and sliding doors. Sort of like a Nissan Axxess or Multi from back in the day.

Anyways had a close look at it and it looks pretty sharp. I think Mazda has another hit on their hands (coming from a Honda sales guy, I shouldn't be saying this  ), and it's also available in 5 speed manual.

The seats in both second and third row are fairly tiny though but the overall look is nice.

The Hummer dealer here has about 20 of them in stock, and I've seen at least one on the road that didn't have a dealer plate, so I guess someone is buying them.

Looks very promising, hopefully we get it here in the states soon. Would like to check one out. Manual tranny on 4-cyl models only? Apologies for my ignorance as I don't know a whole lot about this model.

    Thanks
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Will be sold in the US, prices are good and it's the only vehicle with sliding doors and a manual tranny that I can think of.

2.3l from the Mazda3, in fact it's based on that car too. It's a 6 seaters, 2+2+2, the US model will not have the middle 7th seat in the 2nd row.

Will there be a V6 from the MZ6? Sliding doors on an SUV? Sounds pretty cool.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
Just looked it up online. It's like the MPV. I was thinking of the crossover that was going around the Auto show curcuit.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That'll be here next year. The production model should debut in Detroit next January.

    I think they'll use the name CX-7.

  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
Not a fan of the whole numbering scheme. Quite irritating. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. The CX-7 looks quite promising IMO.

I kinda wonder how much attention a minivan with a manual tranny will get? There are probably a few takers out there, I guess... :confuse:

That's another hybrid you wouldn't notice except for the badge. It was parked at a scenic viewpoint, the only reason I noticed the badge.

CX-7 is a dumb name. Guess MX-Crossport sounded too much like MX-5, since they dropped the Miata part.

I saw one of those top of the line 300C SRT-8 Chryslers on the back of a carrier this morning, in black. Awesome car.

Acura TSX.. I still like these a lot... They need a new wheel design, though.. The stock wheels are too plain...

Saw a new 3 yesterday, my 2nd sighting on public roads. They look better in person, and are by far the best of Bangle's designs.

I agree, they do look much better in person from all angles. Not something that can be said about other Bangled Beemers. ;)

Well I'm from Australia, and I live in Brisbane.
Normally the suburbs aren't that great for car-spotting but I saw a new 3-series (the back is ugly... I actually prefer the 7-series, ive gotten used to it), a new Jaguar S-Type and a bright green (not British racing) MG ZT (based on the Rover 75)

Let's not forget downtown, where I saw a new Nissan 350Z (why do people always buy it in silver?) behind an Alfa Romeo GT (back looks too boxy)

Otherwise, nothing special, as usual.
  • seminole_kevseminole_kev Member Posts: 1,696
that bright green is called "Jaguar racing green" (as opposed to the darker British racing green).........or well at least it is in the States.
  • derrado1derrado1 Member Posts: 194
these reports from the UK about tons of those horrible little CityRovers (aka cheap and cheerless Tata Indica) sitting on a dock somewhere aren't a good sign. What's happened to MG Rover exactly? The Longbridge plant was shut down... but the company isn't dead is it?

MG Rover finally came to Australia, like, this year. The last time they were here, around the same time 'Sterling' was in the states, they had the 800 (Sterling/Vitesse) and the 416i (rebadged Honda Integra 4-dr... don't ask me why) and they left for some reason, probably finanical troubles. Now they come back with a decent line-up of cars and so of course the mothership has to have engine troubles. They'll probably leave Aus again.

Such a shame, I saw a beautiful MG ZS in dark-light grey at the most recent motor show. A little bit cramped inside, but it more than made up for it. I hear it drives pretty good too, at least better than the Rover 45 its based on.

Today I stopped by the local Lexus dealer, as it is right down the street from me. They had some hybrids, expensive little things. The perfect new piece of jewelry for the wealthy housewife,

Struck me as odd that they had so many IS laying around, maybe a dozen of them. Off lease maybe. A lot of new GS too, although those seem to be selling very well as I see maybe 5 a day on the road here.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
Saw two pearl grey Audis - an A4 convertible and a new A6. The A6 seems to be really rare, this is only the third or fourth that I've seen.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
Saw 2 Bentley Continental GT's, newer MB SL's in every color imaginable, a 300 SRT-8, and my FIRST Caddy XLR! So they do exist? Well this one was hauling down rt 24 with a cloud of white smoke choking out the back putting a nice cloud upon the highway. Nice.

A Ferrari... With temporary tags.. so, I'm assuming brand new.. I think it was a Ferrari 360.. Convertible of some sort.. with a soft top..

It was parked near a rental property that I drive by often, as it is on a dead-end street that I go down to access my son's school and also the swim club.. In the past.. and I assume it is the same person.. I have seen a 911 GT3, an Escalade in a bright metallic blue with matching painted alloys, and a BMW 745Li with 20" optional BMW wheels..

Usually only see one of these vehicles once every two weeks or so, so they obviously don't live there.. girlfriend or something, I presume..

It is just incredible the variety and the major expense of every one I see there.. And, no dealer tags, so evidently not someone out for joyrides...

    I mean.. a Ferrari, for pete's sake...

    It just isn't fair...

    ;)

EDIT: I just looked up the Ferrari website.. Definitely a 360 Spider.. Maybe a 2000 model.. My eleven-year-old pegged the model number for me, on first sight.. I don't know where he gets it from.. ;)

Not sure if this is a new factory option or a custom.... I saw a Honda Element with all of it's gray plastic "cladding" painted body color. It was a major improvement! Looked much smoother!

Saw another 3 series, white doesn't look as good as the darker colors I've seen.

I saw my first M45 on the highway, nice looking car in the Smoke Grey/Graphite Metallic that's everywhere now.

I could live without the "Tokyo by Night" tailights though.

I know these have been out for about a year but this was the first one I have seen. Very nice looking but not $70k nice.

It was at the local ice cream parlor, and while I am sitting outside to make sure the kids don't drip ice cream all over the mini-van , he let his kids hop in the back drippy cones and all. I guess it pays to get the leather interior. :)
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Saw 2 at a time today, about 3 cars apart, pretty wild.

A black Mercedes SL55 AMG on the highway, and then a white Mercedes CL55 AMG parked by the road.

Also two Mercedes G Class SUVs. I know they've been out for two or three years, but I hardly see any. I can understand why, why would anyone pay 70K for something that looks like a box on wheels?

And finally, a grey Chevrolet Uplander and a silver C6 Corvette.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,330
a black on black on black convertible drove by my office. Had to look twice, since I first thought it was a Solara, but the back was a little too flat.

CLS's are all over the place in my neighborhood (relatively speaking anyway).

I know they are getting mixed reviews, but I love the way they look.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,330
I see a couple near me. I personally think they look rediculous. Style must sell, or why would people pay 10K more for an E class that looks like a bar of soap left in the spray too long?

....I've seen a few CLS around here, they're certainly, um, distinctive, but as a fan of the old-school utilitarian, conservative, boxy Benzes (think 300E), they're not my cup of tea. Too much flash.

I also just saw my first new Infiniti M, they look nice, but a bit like a 120% sized Subaru Legacy. Not quite stylish enough for $50k to me, YMMV.
  • princeabubuprinceabubu Member Posts: 45
I have seen 2 CLS's running around my city. One is black, which I think looks stunning, and the other is silver, which looks good too. I saw a new 325i yesterday, with sports package. It had a German lisence plate on the front. I was like wtf?? I wonder what the explanation for that was? The only thing I can think of is European Delivery?
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
Yeah, I saw a silver CLS today, they really seem to be getting popular. Here in the Midde East we get the CLS350, which features the 3.5L V6, 268hp engine found in the new M Class and SLK. As far as I know, North America only gets the CLS55 AMG and CLS500. I guess because of the lower price for the CLS350 explains why I'm seeing a lot of CLS's.

But today I some pretty neat cars, starting with a blue Mini Cooper Convertible, a red C6 Corvette convertible, a white Mustang, a silver Porsche 911 Carrera and two Lexus GS300s.

Also saw a pearl white Lexus SC430 on some nice rims, and a white Hummer limo that was incredibly long.

But the best part today was seeing my second Aston Martin DB9, parked in an underground garage. The first I saw was on the road. The car looks absolutely stunning, just like all the Ferraris and Lamborghninis. The car was a metallic grey/brown, the same color as the one in the Edmunds First Drive. Aston Martin sure nailed the styling on this one, pictures dont do it justice.
  • merc1merc1 Member Posts: 6,081
The Aston-Martin DB9 gets my vote as the best looking production car in the world today. It took that distinction away from another Aston-Martin, the Vanquish.

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,411
Yeah we only have the CLS500 and CLS55...and will get the S350 with the upcoming redesign, so it will probably come here then. That 3.5L is getting good reviews.

I'm seeing the facelifted 7er around a bit lately...and it's still very hard on the eyes. The one I saw yesterday seemed to be sitting low (but was driven by an old man and not some useless spoiled trust-funder who pimped it out as often happens to S-class here) so it either had a suspension hiccup or was in some kind of sport mode. It reminded me of a 48 Hudson or a Citroen DS with none of the charm or innovation.

Is this forum dead? No new models spotted in 5 days? Guess you've all been busy with the July 4th weekend. ;)

Anyway, just saw my first 2006 Sonata. It wasn't on the road, but at the mall, and in silver. The interior is really nice, puts a lot of cars to shame. Hyundai has really hit a homerun.

Also, my 3rd STS, in black, and a beige Bentley Arnage. Finally a white 2006 Lexus GS300.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
C&D just tested one, and it hit 0-60 in 7.0s. They are gonna sell, big time.

I saw 3 Ridgelines while up in Baltimore near a Marina, one pulling a boat.

Also saw a Lexus GS in the parking lot.
