Chrysler and Pininfarina, (or was it Ghia?) built the Popemobiles? They were some pretty attractive cars.

I really didn't think much of it coming at me. Kinda looked like a Lexus/Buick ... but it looks great from behind.

    I don't, actually.

This time you could barely see him. The vehicle is hideous. A box on top of an ML, basically. :(

I have a bunch of XF pics from last week when I got to drive one but most of them are too big for this board.

I guess I could directly link them of something.

These compressed photos might come out alright.

Wow, next to the SUV is really looks longer, lower, wider than most cars.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Saw one of the brand new coupes while driving in to work this AM. Very cool.

I think it was the bigger of the two little ones ... Exige?

We got our first X6's in (red & green) and they look much better in person, IMO. But I still don't like em....

Pontiac Vibe, better looking than the pics I had seen of it.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
re: the Vibe, I saw one, too, looks good, except they have black trim to conceal how wide the c pillar is - what is it with cars now?
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
with the V-type grille yesterday. It didn't have V badging or very aggressive-looking wheels, so I assume it's a poser.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Toyota seems to be the worst offender. Look at the Matrix, the xB, the xD, the FJ Cruiser. Can't see a thing out of any of them.

    When did visibility become unimportant?

Got to sit and and scope out a new one today. A guy I know works for Hyundai corp, so he had a pre-sale one. Not sure when they are coming out.

Anyway, extremely nice car. Vey attractive, and the interior was very upscale. Comfy seats, a ton of room, neat features, etc.

If this thing drives as good as it looks, could do quite well (depnedning on pricing).

Frankly, it could have passed as a new model Lexus or Infiniti, and makes the 40K offerings of Acura look shabby.

...but I saw a convoy of at least 20 Porsches on the PA Turnpike this past Saturday on my way to Carlisle.
  • gussguss Member Posts: 1,167
On my way home from work yesterday. At first I thought it was a Yaris five door hatch(if there is such a thing).

For the first time I like the style of Matrix over than the Vibe.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,531
Canada gets the Yaris five-door hatch..

    First one I've seen.

In person they look lower. Pictures make it look taller than it is.
  • gussguss Member Posts: 1,167
I did a little checking and while similar, the Matrix is more sleek, and less cute than the Yaris.

  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
On the Matrix, could the side windows get much smaller? Big A and C pillars, and look at how low the top of the window is. Not good
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,414
I was thinking the same thing, thick pillars and short windows. Not cool. This design fad needs to reverse itself.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
It should start reversing itself soon. IIRC The H2 and Chrysler 300 were some of the first mail slot window designs on the market. The faux four door coupe trend will probably keep the design hanging on for a few more years.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I hate that trend. You can barely see out of half the cars for sale today. Especially the blind spot.

Saw a new Malibu in a parking lot. Those things are loooong.
  • gussguss Member Posts: 1,167
I get the feeling soon it will be like driving a submarine, we'll just have cameras instead of a periscope to see where to go.

Funny...in the pretentious area where I live, I see those pretty much every day, sometimes a few a day. I even saw a G55 last weekend, it had big heavy bling wheels

I saw a CLS63 yesterday...I've read the C63 is in release stage now, so I've been stalking the local dealer once or twice a week to see if I can spot one sitting around.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    With the new grille.

For some strange reason I was seeing new Mazda 5s everywhere I went yesterday
and then I went to a freind's house and her sister from Florida was up driving a rented Mazda 5 (!).

For what it is the 5 is an exceptionally good looking car IMO. Gas prices being what they are a Micro Minivan is probably an idea whose time has come.

...seen many Toyota Yarises (Yarii?) this weekend in all kinds of colors.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
Spotted my first For2 (or however you want to write it) on the road over the weekend. I'm shocked to have seen it in my own hometown, which is rife with things like motorhomes and Z28s (think redneck).

I was also a bit surprised at how small it really is in a real-world setting. I just don't think I could feel safe driving that thing. Its kind of like a mouse trying to navigate through the feet of stampeding elephants.

Too bad Mazda ignores it. I see a lot more marketing for the CX7 and CX9.

Also, they never brought over the 7 seat model, the power sliding doors, or the AWD option over from the JDM version.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Jeez, how many people really need a 7 seater? It'd be pretty crowded in a 5 w that many seats (it must be on a stretched w/b).

They have a middle bench instead of the captain's chairs.

By having 5 seats with the 3rd row folded you have more cargo space because you can fold the whole 3rd row.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...black Cadillac SRX. There's a guy in my neighborhood who has a new silver Pontiac G8 that I see from time to time.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Saw another one. Black this time.

Still very rare sightings around DC.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
"Still very rare sightings around DC. "

I'm surprised - is there a local dealer? I would have expected DC to be a fertile breeding ground for these things! I see probably two a week in Dallas.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Must be, but I've still only seen 2 or 3, and one might have been the last generation.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
There is still over a year-long backlog of orders even though we're getting 2/3rds of the factory output, so any given dealer is only getting a trickle of cars at any given time.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
Yes, I'm just surprised at how many there are around here. Two at the same time in a school parking lot!
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,414
I saw one of those new smaller Infiniti crossovers today. Yawn
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
First time I've seen a 1 series in the flesh.

Looks cute. You really notice the concavity in the sides.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Nissan Rogue in black, Dodge Journey in black, and Jeep Patriot in silver-green.

Saw for the first time a brand-new 2009 Acura TSX with a lip spoiler out in the wild. Boy the rear-end is simply gorgeous. The car looks a lot bigger and I think the best view of this car is from the rear, kind of like Kim Kardashian. I wasn't able to see the front-end, maybe that is why I thought it looked so good.

Saw a white Maserati Quattroporte from the rear as well, looks good too.

I also saw a Hummer H1, aren't those extinct already because of sky-high gas prices? Don't even want to guess what his gas bill is, I drive a Mazda3 and everytime I fill it up costs about 35 bucks man. Don't want to think about how much it costs to fill up a pick-up.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,531
    Spotted two 4-door hatchbacks yesterday...

Nice looking, but I'd be just as happy with a Mazda3 for the same (or less) money..

Speaking of unusual SUVs, saw my first X6 in the flesh, and it was out on the roads.

Still looks odd to me. I prefer the X5.

Another of the new Jags, and a Clubman
