Nightlife - I am getting a cap put on my truck on Wednesday, but will try to borrow a digital camera from work and take a picture of the Amber/Black truck before I do. Send me your e-mail address and will forward a jpeg file to look at. Hope it turns out, the weather is supposed to be er... pretty bad for the next couple days. Won't look as good as it would in the sunlight.
It would be interesting to see dyno results:
a. from the engine itself
b. from the rear wheel. w/ auto
c. from the rear wheel, w/ 5sp
Just to see what the efficiency is.
According to some numbers I saw,(magazine dyno results of rear wheel HP/Torque) the F150 tranny/driveline was more efficient than Dodge, Chevy and Toyota.
I don't think my 'light detonation' is any quietier. I plan to make an appt this week (now that holidays are over) just to see what they, the service dept, have to say about it.
Also, my dealer has a meeting once a month where a Ford rep (probably regional rep), has open Q & A with folks who purchase vehicles from this dealer. He says, that the rep tries to resolve any issues right then and there.
I'm allowed to attend as many meetings as I want and each time while the meeting is going on, they'll change the oil in my truck/car or give me a coupon for a free oil change.. So, in affect I can get free oil changes..
Anyway, I plan to have him listen to my truck if possible.
I picked up my truck in December after ordering in July. Guess several of us got caught in some sort of glitch that created extended delivery times ---- supposedly the problem has been fixed or at least reduced. My truck cost me $300.00 over invoice at the start but came out a little better in the end.
I also ordered a Canopy, Line-x bed liner, billet grill, mud flaps, fender flairs and Husky floor mats, front and rear, for a crew cab. ALL EXTRAS were put on at cost --( NO extra cost to me) ie. She passed her cost on to me without a mark-up. When I picked up the truck everything was in place except the Husky floor mats. I brought it to her attention and reminded her once, later.
When I picked them up and was about to pay for them the person at the counter said they had been "taken care of" by the President, Graham A. Tash,Jr.. That's going to a GREAT EFFORT to keep a customer HAPPY. ( $150.00 for a set of floor mats)
I am not generally swayed in loyalty towards any one brand of auto or truck -- but if this is an example of customer service/satisfaction I may stick with Titus-Will and Ford. In any event, GOOD LUCK with your search and purchase. Paul
Interesting post on price increase effective the 27th which is the day I ordered. I had done shopping on about 6 websites including: edmunds.com, cars.com, autoweb.com, carpoint.com, carsmart.com, and autobytel.com to know invoice prices on base and desired options. Because dealership invoice prices were slightly higher than I'd just found on the web we compared (he never mentioned any recent price hike). With a few dollars on base price and a few more on options it added up to about $170 increase. I accepted but if he missed the factory hike tough for him - I'm sticking to agreed price (or less).
On cab clearance lights option, I opted not, because it's just added height problem for slide-in camper.
Also, he estimated 60-90 days with (of course) no guarantee, just his current experience. He did mention though that Ford is pushing 6spds on him for his lot vehicles because of surplus and heavy ordering for automatics.
Donravis, On limited slip, go for it. I've been towing a 4 horse trailer in the mountains of western washington for 12 years with a 2WD F350 SRW and never gotten stuck except one time on a clay (gummed up both tires). Repeatedly on steep gravel and dirt roads I've felt that positive grip and kept right on moving. That's why I'm getting it even with 4WD. You should study the details on Xl, XLT, and Lariat to know what comes with each package. Theres also an LE package you can get with the XLT.
Thanks everyone. Many sleepless nights from now until arrival.
http://www.bnsf.com/cws/tracing/index.html
This is a Burlington Northern/Santa Fe site.
I never used it and not sure if all SD's can be traced with them or not. Maybe some of the other folks that used it can help you out... hope this helps!
Check the Ordering section in the FAQ on the www.ford-diesel.com web page.
imo, this is a very useful web page and the FAQ has been recently (in the last week or so) updated and you can find very detailed information on the VOPC status as well as things that factor into your actual build date, such as dealer allocation.
tom18 - a DORA does not ensure a quick delivery (plenty of people have had DORAs for months before their truck showed up). A DORA or VOC (Vehicle Order Confirmation) both allow you to check VOPC to see that your vehicle is "in the system" and what is its current build status (see the FAQ above). Without a DORA or VOC with valid order number, the dealer may have your deposit but the Ford build system may not have your truck.

According to the KBB.com info, I can only get a 4.10 limited slip with the 5.4L engine (SD 4x4). Is this correct?
Have a great day!
Bob
donravis: you are correct, to get Limited Slip + 5.4L you have to get the 4.10 ratio.. This is a good ratio anyway that allows the 5.4L to give good power and acceleration.
I ordered 250 XLT CC,SB,V10,auto,4X4,3.73 LS, Trailer/camper package, Oct. 19,1999 (in the last century for pity's sake :-) and status is still "Clean and unscheduled."
Thanks to everyone for all the good conversation on this site.
"Clean and Unscheduled" day after day. They did offer me a diesel at "cost" but I can't afford the "cost" of the diesel. We wait. I heard six
months for v10's. Sorry to discourage you. People
tell me they are worth the wait.
1. Light switch pull-out position is for factory fog lights and there is a fog light kit you can order to use this switch.
2. If you ever see the CD-HOT message it is because the defroster hoses run to close to the CD and its a design problem (nothing can be done about it at this time).
3. The parts manager said you can order box steps that look similar to the cab steps but not a one piece step that goes the length of the truck.
4. Interestingly, they set 5,000 miles for oil changes on the PSD.
5. Also, the front end sqeak does affect 350s as well as 250s. I don't have the squeak yet myself but someone else at the meeting said his 350 is squeaking.
17.9 mpg on my last tank (F-350 XLT 4WD PSD 6SPD 158 3.73).
So far the only flaw I see with the six speed 40/20/40 seat combination is that the middle part of the seat doesn't slide back so you will be pretty friendly with anyone sitting in the middle.
Oien, geez that's a long wait. I ordered my '00 250,CC,SB,V10,3.73,4x4,Lariat on 9/30/99. Sched. 10/30, built 11/22, at dealer 12/8, home by 12/9.
Check with sales/fleet guy at the dealer to see what's up. They should tell you something. I don't buy the "out of V10's" stories.
This kind of wait makes me feel sort of like the guest of honor at my dealer's BBQ. Ha!
Interesting info, though especially on the CD. I've had a couple of tape players run warm on GM products over the year, but I never thought of the hose routing.
This kind of info is just not found elsewhere. Keep up the good work folks.
Earlier posts in this section and Super Duty III speak specifically to the procedure.
I have learned a lot reading all of the pertinent
topics, and I may be asking repetitive questions,
but because I am a woman I want to go into the
dealer fully prepared to tell him what I want so
here goes: I have boiled it down to a 2000 F250 HD XLT SC SB auto 4X4. I am now leaning towards
getting a limited slip differential from what I have learned here (Maine can be snow country), and
I am guessing I will be advised by all of you to
get the 4.10 or 4.30 rear axle (although I had been thinking 3.73 until now) as I am towing all the time. I will be getting the Towing PKG, but I am hearing not to get the Class IV hitch from the factory.
My big question is V10 or PSD? I will not keep this truck over 100,000 miles. I have not test driven them yet, but will later this week. Without having a trailer hooked up I don't know if I will be able to feel for what I am looking for in a test drive. I don't mind paying the extra for the diesel if it means it's going to be a capable
workhorse for me, but I am wary of the expense of keeping it well-maintained. I don't mind the noise, and I am tired of pouring gas into my 150 with the 5.8L. Any thoughts? I'd really appreciate it.
all - Purchased husky liner mud guards last night. Haven't installed them yet but they look like a "piece of cake". They use some of the pre-drilled holes in the fender and will require little drilling. I held them in place and they seem to fit the contours of the truck very well. Cost is $25 a set from LWM pickup accessories in Norman, OK. I'll let you know how things work out.
F250 SD, CC, 4WD, V10, auto, Lariat 650 miles mostly city. 11.3 mpg average. Can't find a thing I don't like about this truck.
Do they really have horses out there in Maine?
Sorry, people are still amazed they we have paved roads and don't have Buffalo in the yard, here in Wyo.
My two cents on the subject:
I have a 350 CC, Lb, V-10, 4x4, 4.30-ls, 5spd,
I haul a 20ft goose neck stock trailer, and never had a problem hauling on the highway or out of a trailhead in late November.
But I just have never really liked a diesel, but they are getting so much more daily driver friendly, not just for long trip highway miles.
Your situation sounds like you would really like the PSD when you are hauling a 3 1/2 ton trailer with horses. Your milage would be better, a little better towing vehicle for your horses.
I would get the after market hitch, you can find a hitch that is built for the way you tow, the Ford hitch is built and designed for all-around towing, and it sounds like you need a stout hich setup.
Definitely go for the limited slip, it is a few dollars more now, versus buying one later.
So I guess my thought is that the PSD is the way to go for the way you would use the truck.
But, I have no complaints against my V-10, most of my friends that I rodeo with have the PSD or the Dodge Cummins, and they think I am nuts for having the V-10, but it just personal preference.
Drive them both like you said and that should help you make up your mind.
Have fun

Another factor for the differences in delivery times as explained in the ford-diesel.com FAQ is dealer allocation. It could be that some dealers have allocation for V10 builds while other dealers have sold their monthly V10 allocations for the next few months.
Edmund's Town Hall is good but there is also a wealth of information in the ford-diesel.com forums as well.
It looks like the stock market is rebounding today. Good thing. I was almost to the point of jumping off the roof of my Superduty.
Just happen to have my Ford Truck Accesories catalog handy. Fog Lamps for Super Duty is
part number 15200, cost $250.00. Description says:
"Super Duty F-Series kits include brackets to mount lights in the exsiting bumper opening. Designed specifically for integration with your truck's factory wiring--installation by your Ford dealer recommended."

Interesting side story re: this pull out position (if it's like mine) make sure you tell someone new to driving your truck to pull it all the way out. When I took my scout troop to camp in 1998, my assistant Scoutmaster got pulled over for having no headlights 'cause she was driving my truck with no lights in this little ole town in N. Georgia. Her reason: I didn't know the lights weren't on (she's a nice blonde lady). :-)
She stopped pulling at the first stop in the knob pull out and really had no lights. She just wasn't prepared, I guess.
($250) that bobh12 has in his catalog but their
part number (for a 2000 F-350) is: F81Z15-200 AA. I assume these are the same lights, just a difference between the catalog item number and the
dealer part number. (Medved in Castle Rock has one set in stock in case anyone in CO needs them right away.)
I spoke with my salesman today who called to see if I was interested in a 350 SC that someone ordered but backed out on and is available today. Since it's not a CC I said no thanks. But I did tell him I am expecting an answer from the GM. I'll call tomorrow or send another note to the big cheese. I know I am being too easy on them. I want the truck and am getting a good price (at invoice, no advertising fee) and I do not absolutely need the truck yesterday. With over two months invested I don't want to walk and find someone else but I will if they don't give me some info this week. Just want some straight info, not get jerked around. For anyone who has or had a good dealer and salesman, thank your lucky stars.
Sorry for the venting. Just tired of "clean and unscheduled...."
Hey pungo, where do you hang your hat? Pungo, VA Beach, VA?
I was asked by my local dealer (who, by the way, has no trucks ever on his lot so I am sceptical to order one from them. They may have never seen a PSD in the service dept.!!) when I was pricing out a PSD if I wanted the dual alternators. Is that an option or do you just get dual alternators with the PSD? Why would one get dual alt. if they are an option? And how often does the diligent owner change the oil in the PSD? Thanks
First, check the Kelly Blue Book site for invoice prices: www.kbb.com. They have good explanations of option requirements.
The Ford "so-called" Class IV hitch is really a Class III. The weight "Carrying " rating is 5000# and 500# TW. If using weight "Distributing" hardware then rating is 10000#. Look at the truck hitches on the lot and check the label. I opted not to get factory hitch and went with the DrawTite Ultra, Model #41922 for Super Duties. Bolts up to existing holes. Rated for 10000# DW and 1000# TW for weight-carrying. Make sure to get a matching rated drawbar and ball (1 1/4" shank). Cost $300 installed for all. www.draw-tite.com
I recommend the Camper pkg. to get the rear sway bar and rear aux. leaf springs. More stability. The trailer pkg. comes with both the 7-pin and 4-pin receptacles on one bracket and a bag of stuff for electric brake control.
Get the limited slip for whichever axle you choose. I would also recommend the Telescoping Trailer Tow Mirrors. Order code 54E(power) or 54D(nonpower). They are worth it.
Anybody know what the REAL scoop is??
Based on how long it took Porky to get his rig, I wonder if they have a great truck allocation? I certainly associate Titus-Will with cars more than trucks.
I ordered my F250SD from Sound Ford on 12/8, got my DORA on 12/10 and VOPC tells me my rig will be built week of 1/24. Add 2-3 weeks for shipping and that should be about the "average" that most folks on this forum report. Sound Ford is reputed to sell a "lot" of trucks. That's the biggest reason I decided to order through them.
I dealt with Don Wellner, the Fleet Manager at Sound Ford (he also happens to be the Internet Sales Manager). I wanted $500 over and he agreed. Don was responsive to my emails, and gave me no hassles placing my order and faxed my my DORA when he said he would. Hopefuly, I'll have no hassels picking my truck as well.
If you send email to sndford@soundford.com it will get to Don.
Since I live a little further North (Woodinville), I plan on getting my truck serviced at Bickford in Snohomish (they also sell lot's of trucks, but would not do $500 over), so I cannot speak to the quality of Sound Ford's service department.
Good luck.
Anybody know what the REAL scoop is??
I was at the dealer today adding the sliding rear window/tint combo at the wife's request and saw a number of 4X4 CC's and SuperCabs. About 10-12. All but one, ALL but ONE, had PSD with some combination of 5 or 6 speed manuals. But they had all 3 Excursions on the lot with V10s and autos.
I think I finally see a pattern. I'm thinking about going back through old posts and actually doing some counting. We've got a pretty good sample of order configs here.
Keep posting folks!
Stock market info for you Brutus...and anyone else.....
www.dinesletter.com
I know this isn't about trucks and stuff....but info I attained from this guy over the past two years has taken my and my wifes Roth IRA's and increased them 1048%. Too bad I can't take it out until retirement....I could have paid cash for my SD and not felt the bite at all!!! Just for informational purpose...took $35,000 and increased the 1048%....if you want add that up!!!
Just some info if you all are interested...hope I'm not makin' anyone mad.
Lewac....what's up with the truck....Has Ken been able to tell you anything new????
Also, I didn't get the camper package because I plan to get a fifth wheel, not a slide in-camper. As far as I know, the rear stablizer bar and extra leaf springs can be added later if you need them. I did get the trailer tow package and the class IV receiver because I will occasionally be towing heavy equipment up-hill to my house and, of course, the 5th wheel I plan to get in about a year.
Also, the PSD is only available with the 3.73 rear axle (with or without L/S). For me this is plenty of power, although I haven't towed anything yet and don't plan to until the spring. The six speed comes with a low gear which is very handy. I have not had to use low 4wd at all with this low gear. With my old truck, if I stopped on some of the 20% grades in my development, I would have to use low 4wd to get started.
For oil changes, my dealer recommends every 5,000 miles. I know that people at www.ford-diesel.com recommend more frequent oil changes but the way I see it (and I could be wrong), with 14.9 quarts of oil, it will take longer to get the same level of dirt in the PSD than it will in the lesser amount of oil in the gas engines. Note: my dealer charges $79.00 for a PSD oil change.
Ford-diesel.com has a good step by step artical on changing the oil on the psd. I do it my self 15 quarts of shell rotella t and a filter at Wallmart was $29& change. Just my .02 cents.
Yes, the headlights are on when he fogs are on. At least that is the way the 150 is set up. Fogs are only on when low beams are on, when you switch to high beams the fogs go off.
Just out of curiosity, is your "at invoice" kbb.com's invoice price or the dealer's invoice price? I've noticed that the online pricing sites (such as kbb.com) don't usually mention the advertising fee or what it is (since, in the case of Ford, it's based on region and vehicle). I believe also that not all manufacturers list advertising as a line item (I got the impression that Chevy doesn't list it but you pay it anyway).
The invoice pricing I've seen from the dealer includes advertising (FDAF) as a line item from the factory. I know that you can negotiate out of FDAF but I don't think it's easy since that would be an expense the dealer would have to eat (since FoMoCo is charging the dealer for it).
