Well, just filled my tank for the second time. 543.7 miles on 31.03 gallons (17.5 mpg). The fuel gauge was almost on empty but apparently, I had about 7 gallons left.

    00 F350 SC/LB/SRW/XLT/PSD/6SPD/3.73/4WD - no bed cover yet.

By the way, the engine sounds real good with Conoco's winterized diesel fuel (no additives).

JRaske - just passed 1000 miles myself on the way into work this morning.

Ford info on 250 SD Lariat says it has a SecuriLock passive anti-theft system. How does it work? Is it good enough to not have to add after market circuitry to it? If you added an alarm system to your SD please give details!
Thanks for your help in advance.

Congratulation on ordering! Was it from Ferebee Ford? After a 14 week wait I'm picking mine up from them tommorow. F250SD Lariat CC 4X4 PSD AUTO 3.73LS Island Blue. The worst part was the 5 week wait from "at the ramp" to dealer. Apparently a lot of problems getting from the railhead (Winston-Salem) to Louisa,VA. I have yet to meet the salesman, John Cavanaugh,as I have done all the tranactions via phone/mail. Never got a DORA
from him. I just used the dealer code/order #/body Type to follow progress via VOPC. He faxed me the VIN the day they received it(about 6 weeks later) and the used it to track order status.Up front he said 12-14 weeks, so he was on target.
I agree with you on colors for this year...not much choice. I did see an Island Blue with silver
lower accent...looked pretty nice...was going to order but not avaliable with Lariat pkg, only on XL and XLTs. I think the gold on yours will look good.
I think the 265 tires are a good size. I thought
$450 to go from the 235s to the 265s was too much. I plan to trade or wait till I wear them out and go with the 265s(maybe the 285s).
Just hang in there and follow these posts plus check out www.ford-diesel.com to pass the time.
I doubt if I'll get much sleep tonight knowing my Christmas present is waiting for me in the a.m. I think I'll celebrate with a shot or two of Makers
Mark(more likely 3 or 4) to put me to sleep.

I ordered a 250 SD lariat SC, 2WD, V10, LT265 75X16, camper and tow packs and hitch. I ordered the Island Blue with Gold accent also..Great minds think alike. The order was entered on Dec 10. VOPC status as of Dec 15 is Clean and Unscheduled. Dealer says the V10s are depleted. Dealer also advises that the factory is planning a great production rate after the 2 week shutdown. I will keep the list advised
  • lilelmolilelmo Member Posts: 144
Thanks for the post on the V10 depletion. I've been seeing good movement on the PSD trucks, but the V10 units seem to be stopped. I wonder if it's the Excursions soaking them up? I'm getting a little antsy. My 250 CC 4X4 SB SRW XLT has been ordered since Oct 19. I checked the VOPC yesterday and I too, got a Clean and Unscheduled. Did the dealer say what 2 weeks the shutdown was for? I don't expect delivery until Feb, now but I'm curious.

Another question occurred to me for the group: Do you think the VOPC is Y2K compliant (since the dates in the system obviously lap over the new year)?

tmats1 - I have 4000 miles on my F250 V10 Auto, SC 3.73, 265 tires and unless I am towing my car trailer I am getting 12 mpg for 75% town 25% highway driving. I have been running regular gas (85 oct) in my truck with no problems. Unless you are doing most of your driving at 10,000 ft altitude I would have the truck checked out.

PS I live in Greeley Co.
  • gossamargossamar Member Posts: 106
...First, for those of you ordering the ISLAND BLUE trucks, the color is more of a blue/green...almost teal looking color, but I LOVE IT!!! I ordered mine as a solid color. The paint chip in the book does this color no justice.
For the 265-AT tires....have not had a real chance to try them out in the snow yet, as we have yet to receive any snow of any significant amount here in central ILL. However, they seem to ride good, have some RRRRRRRRR going down the road(nothing the CD wont drown out!!), and leave pretty cool marks on the pavement when "hauling" the mail!!!
For those with 4x4's and have some squeaking in the front end...there IS a kit available to replace some bushings in the front leaf springs. I don't have the details or the part number or Technical bulletin from FORD yet, but will post that information when I get it.

I ordered 250 PSD CC 4X4 SB SRW XLT last week. Is there any way to check the order status of the truck on the internet?
  • tmats1tmats1 Member Posts: 35
Sieden, thanks for your response. that was just the first fill-up. I'm pretty confident it will get better as things loosen up, but I'll sure keep the figure you quoted in mind in case I don't see improvement. I'm out in the east, magnum roo-rul, part of the state. We'll wring it out pretty good over the Christmas holiday period. I'll let you know what happens with the mileage.
Happy Holidays to all in the Ford SD forum

Have had my 00, CC, V10, 3.73ls, 4-sp Auto, LT265AS (do you think we'll ever converse in full words again?) for about 2 months and I get the following mileage:

    11.5 - 12.0 in town driving
    13.5 - 14.5 highway driving.

Have 4000 miles on it after a big trip up to Montana. Averaged 14.3 on that trip. Pretty pleased so far. Been running 87 Octane the whole time - several different brands of gas. Haven't noticed significant MPG changes with brand.

I also have the squeaky front end and slight pull to the right under hard braking so please post any TSB info when you get it. Seems like FORD has some inherent 'bugs' it needs to address.

Has anyone else experienced a loud 'popping' noise in their suspension when going over rough terrain? When 4-wheelin I get a pop every time the front pass. side tire is forced down over a large bump or rock. Not just off-road though. Even when turning into a parking lot with an up-sloping driveway, the back end suspension pops. Is this unique or another widespread issue? Feedback would be much appreciated.

without going back thru all these posts, do you have the 250 or the 350? was wondering because ours is the f350 & one of the differences between the 2 configs is a slightly heavier front axle (on the 350). as our config is also 4X4 am wondering if the "squeak" problem you mentioned is showing up on that heavier axle. or is it related to the leaf springs, regardless? don't know if the leaf's are heavier or just the axle itself. also "heard" that f350 has 2" blocks & thus sits a couple of inches lower in the rear than the f250 (comes thru with 4"?)... heard anything about that? anyhow, we're still a "have not"; but keep us all (with 4X4) posted. hopefully, any day now, will become a "have".
  • pistoleropistolero Member Posts: 52
Yes, but mine has stayed dated December 3rd, despite a change to the build date from the week of Jan 10 to Jan 17. F-350, C/C, V-10, 4X4, SWB, DRW ordered 23 November.
  • lilelmolilelmo Member Posts: 144
Don't know if it's the same thing, but my 150 pulled to the left under hard braking when new. Seems two bushings from different shipments were used on the front end at the factory (different lots maybe?). The left one was softer than the right and it would "deform" a little under braking. That changed the steering geometry and the truck "steered itself to the left." A TSB came out in July of that year. New bushings = no more pulling. At that time, they (my dealer who sells a LOT of trucks)said it happened more on 250's than 150's but it happened on mine. Hope this helps.

John C. said he had one there if I wanted to come see the color--must be yours! he also has a wedgewood there. But a 4 hour round trip to see color...just don't have the time. I am 'stupid' about tire sizes but had heard that the standards look real small on a truck this size. I am going to price with my tire dealer to see if the upgrade is worth it. He has promised the DORA to me when he gets it. Do let him know that you sent the business-should be worth an oil change or two!
And for you guys on this list( as I think most of you are)--this internet buying is great from a non-sex angle. In prior years I have gone into dealerships with a checkbook in hand, been handed to the 'junior salesman' or totally ignored(seriously); given the highest price with no dealing or told to send my husband! All that you have ever heard about salesmen and the treatment of female buyers ( at least in the past in my experience) was true. This way at least I got a fair price(maybe not the lowest but fair) and no hassles!

and yeah that may be why I am so concerned with the color!! I'll take that flak!
Thanks for all the help getting to this spot and looking forward to my calls to VOPC. And I got to give my older brother-in-law the info so he could buy an econ-van. By the way, anyone have a phone number for that factory???
  • jepsonfamjepsonfam Member Posts: 45
I've been hearing almost daily or at the most every 3 days an update. Most recently tonight I checked and it states as of 12/16...clean and unsked.... still. Ordered/DORA 11/2. Will be at the dealer's tomorrow for some service on the Bronco as I prepare to sell it, so I will stop and pass along to my salesman (and manager if need be) some of these other dates and configurations which seem to indicate that I may be getting the run around slightly with regard to saying the CD is the holdup on getting my truck (from a VOPC human to my salesman). Lots of talk here recently seems to lean back toward the V10 being the culprit. Getting more anxious every day to hear something different on the VOPC. Seems like others are getting build dates which are after what my salesman (via VOPC human) estimated my delivery to be - 10 Jan 00. So, why can't they tell me more about mine?
  • tmats1tmats1 Member Posts: 35
Your mileage sounds pretty good to me, and my truck is configured about the same. <--full, all full words
Funny about the creak in the front end. We traded a 93, x-cab, F-150, 4 x 4 in and it would creak like that. I had the front end inspected a couple times and nothing could be found, but it was annoying for certain. It started that in the last year or two before trade-in.
  • gossamargossamar Member Posts: 106
...okay here goes....Y2K F250 4x4 xlt, sc, sb, v-10, auto, island blue, cab steps, cd, power captain chair, keyless entry, power windows/doors, 3:73 LS, trailer tow, power telescoping trailer mirrors, towing package, class IV hitch, snow-plow package, block heater, privacy glass, rear slider, 265-AT tires, 4-wheel abs and off-road package. Have added...Borla cat-back exhaust, K/N filter, Jet performance chip, RHINO liner, X-Tang tonneau cover.
Lewac, I know that the 250 uses a DANA 50 axle in the front. I think that the 350 might use a DANA 60, but would they use the same leaf springs??
I think my squeak is centered around the bushing the bolt goes through to hold the leaf spring to the front shackle. With the snow plow package I do have the heavier springs, would be interesting to see if this problem occurs on non snow plow packaged trucks. Then again, with almost 4000# resting on me, I might squeak a bit too!!!!

pistolero-my build date was also week of jan.10 and the next time I checked it was moved to the 17th also.read jepsonfams post 276 He doesnt have a build date yet and his is beimg updated.Something is odd there.
My order went in on August 14th
V-10 sd sc xlt f-250 4x4 manual and all the other goodys

jepsonfam-I have heard that the Excursion was taking up a lot of the V-10 engines. Not only that, when the fire was at the factory where the V-10`s are built, they lost over 80,000 units. About one month ago my dealer showed me his Allotment status for Dec.. Not good!! It said 0% for super duty F-series and the Excursions was 90%. But, thats only my dealer, others have much better allotment as seen from all the past posts.
  • pistoleropistolero Member Posts: 52
About all I can say is it doesn't appear the v-10 is the culprit here, I had a build date within 10 days. After reading all the old posts from this topic it looks to me like allocation alone is the key. My priority was 15, lots of people insisted that 10 was the only way to go, but I don't think priority matters so much if a dealer hasn't got the allocation to begin with. Somebody weeks ago suggested getting your dealer to pull his allocation and show it to you, if you don't feel he's being honest with you, you may want to insist on this. I'm sure individual configurations may be a part of this, somebody at one time posted that they waited a month due to lack of the right seat being available. It's by no means a simple system, but all in all allocation sure looks to be the biggie here. That's my take anyway, good luck!

I don't have a 4x4 but I have that popping sound also....mine is on the drivers side...when making a left turn and hitting a bump....I pull into my driveway w/a left turn and there is a little curb to go over...it pops....and now it is doing it even when I hit a bumpy road at high speeds going straight....I went out the other day...stood on my drivers running board and shook the truck....clak clak clak...it made this popping noise....went up to the front bumper and stood on that and shook the truck ...no noise.....so it is something on the left drivers side.....I was supposed to take it in...but had to cancel my appt.....also...it doesn't sound like a suspension or spring problem...just sounds like something is loose....but I'm not sure of that.....will keep posted!!!

I've been reading the list over the last month and ordered a Y2k XLT SD CC SB 4x4. I got the V10 but still wonder about the diesel. I really don't tow anything but haul gyms and weightlifting equipment. I feel I made a good choice and got the truck for $250 over invoice. I have cpt chairs, plow pkg., auto trans. trailer pkg. hitch, Pwr take off, ABS, SOF4wd,CD, priv. glass,3.73 ratio, off road pkg.keyless entry. I just received my order # but no DORA from the dealer. Any ideas on what to do? I gave deposit on 12/3. Was told today still unscheduled from dealer. I'm already getting anxious but telling myself it's worth the wait. I am waiting for info about the steering wheel lock up I've seen some people post about. My buddy is an engineer at Ford and he has a friend who is working with SuperDutys. Assured me he will find out all he can. Any ideas where I can find some nice black wheels to have ready to install when it arrives?

Finally,we are getting closer. My F-250 SD SC Lariat LB SRW 5.4l Bright Amber/Black is to be built week of 12/20 with an estimated delivery the week of 1/3. Been waiting since placing the order on 6/24! It will be worth it!
    Two questions:
I am getting a cap, Shurtop Excalibur, which is the high profile cap. The salesman told me that Shurtop is one of the only manufacturer's that are building acceptable caps for the superduty. The others have experienced sliding on the rails and have had to redesign the clamps, etc. Has anyone else heard this?
Also, I would like to get a remote starter. It gets cold here in northern Ohio, and it would be great to have the truck warmed up and defrosted before I need to get in a 5am. This rig is way to big to fit in our garage. My last truck with a standard cab just barely fit. This one is definitely too high and too long. Any suggestions on remotes and their cost?

The VOPC message on my order hasn't changed since November 19th. Once it moved the build date from, week of January 10th to week of January 3rd and then back to the week of January 10th. The message still states as of "November 19th your unit is scheduled to be built week of January 10th". Has anyone else had this experience?

F-250 sc 2wd v-10 4:30 Auto...yea,put me down for a pop also. Mine is not as frequent(occasionally on sharp turn). If it gets more frequent I'll have it checked out. Should you come accross a fix let us know.....Got the coinholder fixed, their resolve was to replace the whole center console (o.k. by me, actually the lid even fits a little snugger. Needless to say I'll just keep my change in my pocket.) My mileage is right about what I've seen the last few posts, I'am just a little less in town w/the 4:30's and not more than 5-8 miles a wack I'am only getting 10-10.5.. That's o.k. I'am pretty pleased with it, heading up to Neb. next weekend not sure if I'll take BIG RED if I do I'll give everyone a post on mileage "HAPPY HOLLIDAYS"...
  • gossamargossamar Member Posts: 106
...You might want to try your local BEST-BUY store for the remote start, with the xmas season they have been discounting the starters. They do have a website, that you might be able to locate a store near you...or at least give you a number to call.

Picked up our 00 F-250 CC LB 4x4 last week and only have a little over 200 miles on it so far. When I picked it up the computer mpg was reading 5.5 ( Heart Stopper !! ) but has steadily been creeping up to presently read 8.9 mpg. It's going in the right direction at least. Looking forward to being able to post 10-13 mpg average.

Definitely a nice ride!!!!! Have to re-adjust my driving habits ----- being so loooooong I can't pull out into traffic without 1/2 an acre of clearance to make my turn. The boys enjoy the room provided in the back seat so it's worth the trade off. Had to go to our towns baseball stadium parking lot to "calibrate the compass" !!!!! NOT complaining --- just have to chuckle !!!

    TO ALL:

Have a happy and safe Holiday!!!!!!

Check out www.nra.org under clearance items. They are selling remote starters for members at ~$70, regular list was ~$280.

crazyElvis... well, well, a "change" in order. but not from Ken. vopc change after over 3 weeks of saying unit is locked for build week ll/22 eta week of 12/6. that 12/6 eta & the fact that Gator's received the invoice on the truck indicated that the truck had been built (it was actually built 11/27). however; Ken went by "typicals" when guoting us an expected delivery date... & the vopc was telling him the same as it was telling us. as of today we FINALLY (!!!) have an update: "Shipped by convoy carrier 12/14 with eta ARRIVAL 12/28"! So NO Christmas "present" for us. Note that 12/30/1999 marks 3 months from date of order... so you did very well. We honestly do not expect to have the vehicle in our hands much b4 the 2nd week in January. unreal! that truck's must have been sitting up there at the plant for over 2 frikking WEEKS! just SITTING there! Note that none of this is Gator's "fault" as once the order is placed (with also having the required dealer allotment for the config) it is out of the dealer's hands until the vehicle arrives at same. the problem here was with Ford. now just maybe we'll get an "arrived at ramp" message of some sort & THEN the "fun" will begin (getting the thing out of the rail head & over to Gator).

gossamar... it would seem logical that you'd have heavier springs AND a heavier axle. We heard the same. the f350 gets the Dana 60 while the f250 gets the Dana 50. you'd think they'd put that Dana 60 on the plow package, though... but maybe the stresses are elsewhere. don't know. as you can see from my note to crazyelvis... we're a "have not" for at least another three weeks. damn.

wgilmartin... reading the snippet to crazyelvis above you can see that the vopc is in no hurry at times to give updates. but you can expect your status to go to "As of dd/mm, "Locked" in for build week of dd/mm with an eta week of dd/mm" within 10 days/2 weeks prior to your scheduled build week. Your status will go to "Locked" b4 the build. this means you (via the dealer) can no longer make changes to the config as the entire vehicle is in inventory from that point. Our build date was also moved back a week or so b4 for the "lock" in. so you've probably got a couple of more weeks b4 you get a "lock".

I pulled out of the parking lot at work yesterday and the truck stalled (I have an auto trans, so it's not poor shifting). The truck wouldn't start and I could smell gasoline, like it was flooded. I waited a few minutes and it started, but then stopped almost immediately. I popped the hood and saw nothing obviously wrong. I started it again, and heard this loud hissing sound under the truck and then it died. It sounded like a loose hose or something. I had visions of a tow truck on Friday night and no truck for the weekend. I got out my flashlight to see if I could find anything under the truck (it was only 5pm, but it's dark up here at that time, not to mention about zero degrees). When I got around to the passenger side of the truck, I saw that the tailpipe was stuffed solid full of snow. I got the tire iron out from under the hood and dug the snow out to the curve in the pipe. It cranked it up and it ran like new again.

I was doing some inspections yesterday in some outlying areas and made a couple of multiple point turnarounds on narrow snow roads. I think I must of packed it in in a snowbank. I drove about another 100 miles before returning to the office without a problem. I'm surprised I didn't have a problem on the way back or that the exhaust didn't blow it out. The only thing that I can think is that enough air was getting through. When I parked it and shut the engine off, it had time to freeze up and solidify. Oh well, I'm a happy camper. I was only about 15 minutes late to meeting up with some friends and I made it to the hockey game on time at 7pm.

Man...don't quite know what to say about that problem....just unreal...DUDE!!!! Geeez...that would almost want to make me move to ...say...SOMEWHERE WARMER!!!!! ha ha....

First time logged in. Placing order tomorrow, 250, CC, Lariat, PSD, LB, 3.73, 2WD, auto. I'm 99% sure on color, bright amber, and would like to go two tone. Problem is salesman advises that black is only color available as two tone scheme for bright amber.

qmeister - #286 post, saw that you have ordered this combination. Have you seen a 250 CC with this color scheme. Would appreciate your input.

Also have question on tire size. Salesman recommends going with LT235/85R16E. Is there a potential problem if I move up to LT265/75R.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I now know what all of the fuss has been about. Turned 500 miles this AM. 250 CC,SWB,SRW, PSD, #.73 LS with 265 tires. Computer showed 14.9 mpg on first tank-all in town driving. Can't be beat in my mind. Can't wait for some open road.

    Comments:
1-Super ride and much quiter than expected
2-Solid and tight- no knocking, etc.
3-I noticed a small power steering leak this AM. Will update when I find source.

4- I located a salvage In-dash CD/Cassette from a '99 250. I have been told 2 diff. things. One guy says that you have to order a whole bunch more than just the head component. Another says that it is just a matter of pulling my in-dash cassette out and replacing with the CD/Cassette. Any comments on this?

Is is true that the V10 2WD takes 7 quarts of oil?
I went to one of those oil change place, and they charged and extra 2 quarts of oil above 5 quarts.

    What's the real deal?
  • bobh12bobh12 Member Posts: 140
They are available from the factory for the Expedition and the Excursion, don't know about the Super Duties. Check out the SUV Conf, Excursion Topic #1061, seems to me some one said they got one from K MART, (posted within the last couple of weeks) Good Luck. Happy Holidays to All.
  • chrispalchrispal Member Posts: 35
FYI - I have the F-350 4WD and have not yet heard the squeaking or popping noises in the front end. Maybe this is just a 250 problem. The PSD may be drowning out some noises but its really pretty quite when its idling around a tight corner. (As tight as you can corner in these trucks.) So far I'm very happy with this truck. 1200 miles, lots of power and no squeaks or rattles.
  • BrutusBrutus Member Posts: 1,113
The Superduty with V-10 takes 7 quarts of oil. The PSD takes 15.

I was thinking about my Friday snow-in-the tailpipe incident. There is no way that snow would have stayed in the pipe without melting. The more I think about it, the more I think I was the victim of a practical joke. I work between the University and the dorms. Maybe some kids did it. It happens. I'm just glad I figured it out and didn't call a tow truck.
  • qmeisterqmeister Member Posts: 14
I have not seen this specific combination, but I have seen the Bright Amber with the Harvest Gold accent, which I thought was pretty sharp. However, it's been discontinued this year, so I went ahead with the black accent. I'll know how that turned out in about 2 more weeks. I was pretty sure that I wanted to go two tone with that color.
Gossomer, Handgunhunter- Thanks for the info. Any idea how hard the remote might be to hook up on your own? Also, are there any mfr's of the remote that are better than others or are they all pretty much standard?
Tonkaman-I don't believe that the parking sensor is available on the superduty although you can get a backup warning signal. This may only be available through Fleet sales. I have to agree with you on the Windstar. We purchaced a '99 SE, have about 8,000 miles and love it. It rides like a Caddi..er, Lincoln.

I called the VOPC for the first time on the 12/17 (Friday) and it gave a "as of 12/15... All calls since including today 12/20 report an "as of 12/16" date.
It appears this system is only updated on Thursdays.
The 2 week shutdown I reported earlier is a Christmas break. The larger build scheduled after the break is due to the parts factories continuing production during the holidays.

Got back from travel to find that nothing has changed. Sounds like both of us are stuck at the ramp. Mine got there on 12/11. I still have hopes that mine will be here before Christmas. If yours gets here first, I guess that the camper option isn't all that important :-). As for the garage thang, I'm just going to take a run at it and if it doesn't work out, I know some new "spare" parts will be right here in town :-). Just kidding, but I will let you know when mine arrives. It would be great if we can both go together to get them and compare beasts! Just look for a gray haired guy with two very excited grandkids and a concerned wife all wanting to go for a ride.

Filled up Sun. this last tank I got right at 21mpg, love this psd!! Those that don't remember or know, 00,psd,cc,sb,6 spd mnl,3.73ls,swd,2wd,
xlt, loaded. I have had no problems so far other than, I noticed when under the beast changing the oil, a small amount of transmission fluid on the floor pan above where the drive shaft yoke goes into the transmission and a drop on the crossmeber below. I wiped it all clean and have driven a few hundred miles since and can see no more fluid. So I don't think I have a problem. It may have just been a tad bit over filled from the factory, has never even been a drop on the garage floor.
All I can say about this engine is- POWER!!!

a slight screwup on my last post. stated that beast was shipped by "convoy" carrier. called Ken & asked him about it. he said that it's: "Con-rail" Carrier. the vopc's voice was not that clear (or maybe it's the preverbal beginnings of a "bad" sign on my part). you're "problems" began AFTER "ramp arrival", right? think I'll take a trip back to archive to re-enlighten myself as to how your beast got from there to here.

    4.6 L Car engine - 5 quarts
    351 (5.8 L) Car engine - 5 quarts
    351 (5.8 L) Truck engine - 6 quarts
    400 (6.6 L Truck engine - 6 or 7 quarts (don't remember which)
a 6.8 L truck engine would be about 7 quarts

The truck engine is expected to work harder , the extra oil is insurance against oil getting too hot and breaking down.

I went to the dealer this morning to order my new truck after giving up finding one just sitting there, and lo and behold, they had almost what I was ordering, 2000 v10, auto CC,lwb, srw, 4x4, 3.73ls, lariat. Seems that a guy ordered it 3 months ago and it turns out his credit was denied, any way I got it for $150 over with a decent trade-in value. The only things diffenent than I would have ordered is the color and no off road. Anyway, with 25 miles on it the computer says 12.2 mpg. Very Happy!!! BTW it is 3" longer than the old 1993 CC dually it replaces. For people in Texas try Bluebonnet Ford in New Branfels, salesman Hugh Hestand. Will keep posting fuel milage.

I took a trip this weekend and this is a summary of my experience. I have Y2k 250sd cc v-10 auto 3.73ls sb 4x2 lariat, no bed cover. Filled up and drove about 4 miles in town with 4 stop lights until getting to 55 mph highway. After driving 60 miles in the rolling hills of Va. the computer was showing 17.1 mpg. This is the highest I have ever recorded. Stopped to eat and went thru 4 stop lights and the milage dropped to 16.8. After running another 45 miles it was back to 17.1 I then put on the cruise control and the milage dropped to 16.9. It down shifts quicker on a steep hill if cruise is set. Ran about 5 miles on the interstate at 70 mph and computer reading dropped to 16.8. For the next 20 miles i drafted a cargo truck and the milage went back to 17. I ran around 40 miles around town and it dropped to 15.4. After returning home I filled up at the same pump and got an actual 15.27 average. I am very pleased with this average. There were 3 adults and about 100 extra lbs on board. Total milage is now 1750. Around town I get 11-12 mpg no load.

I came upon a cute girl many years ago, with the same problem. She backed out of her driveway into a snow bank and packed the tail pipe with snow. I dug it out with a screwdriver & all was well. She had same symptoms: gasoline smell, hissing from exhaust pressure, and the engine barely starting or not starting at all. Way to go, keeping all your senses ready for fixing stuff. By and by, I got a 2000 F250 SD V10 back in August & have been having fun ever since! Hope you are enjoying yours as well.

My mileage has been around 10.5-11.5 in mixed driving. I was getting 13.3-13.5 highway, but I had a roll-top installed and I seem to have lost about .5 mpg. May be a fluke, will keep posted.

I also have developed the squeeeeeky front end, and I do not have the snow plow package.

Also,,, only had 1 response to my question about shifting into overdrive, so here goes again...

AT WHAT MINIMUM SPEED DOES YOUR OD KICK IN???

My O.D kicks in at about 42, 43 mph during normal driving, if I drive normal up to appox 30 mpg and then drive with a feather light touch I can get it to kick in at appox 35mph. But who drives with that light foot?
    I have a 00 F350 CC DRW 4x4 4.10
If I remember right you were kicking in at 43 mph,
sounds like thats about right, anybody else?
