I'm thinking about getting the Mopar remote starter kit installed on my (finally, it's in D1) 300c. Northern Ohio winters are cruel. Does anyone have one on theirs? Any feedback will be appreciated?

I am planning on buying from a friend a used 12/1999 chrysler 300m.
Is there chance that someone knows details of the audio system?
He has told me that the system has no cd player. I would like to add a factory one. Which model(part no) should I seek for? Is the part i am looking for it a in dash changer or one that will fit in the boot? Should I change the whole am/fm/cassette deck or will the stock one be able to drive a cd changer?
If i decide to put an aftermarket unit, what will i do with the gap from the double din stock unit?

I test drove a 300 with the base stereo with CD changer. The dealer said they could put in a nav system, no sweat. Sounded like it was a matter of taking the old one out and putting a new one with nav in.

You should ask the service dept at your dealership.

I just had my dealer install A sirius in my 300c. They do it just as they would at the factory.
The they put a chip in the back of your factory installed radio. I even had them send the antenna to there body shop and paint it for me,[midnight blue]the color of my car. I had the sevice dept. call to activate for me and sirius gave me 1 year service at no cost.It works great you will really enjoy it.

I can not get the front seat to move back when exit the car. Seat does not go back or wheel up. I have had it at the dealer 4 times. They replaced the seat memory chip, and I am still having the problem. The dealer and factory have no idea whats wrong? They have been working on it since May. The factory claims to be working on a flash system, but are still without an answer

If you don't mind can you email me the cost?

I don't know it remote starting is really a practical option for the 300C. The Sentry Key module needs to sense the key in or near the steering wheel in order to start. Once started it will run without the key transmitter. I tried this by removing the circuit board from the key and the car will start and die just as it should. Try it again with the chip near and once started and running, you can take the chip away and drive off. If you added a remote starter, you'd have to have a matched transmitter chip stay in the car; that would essentially render the security feature useless (but would allow you to make as many duplicate keys as you want - cheaply too.
  • ianyerianyer Member Posts: 5
I have the same problem with the seat not gong back. However, the steering wheel still goes up on exit. If I turn the feature off, shut off the car, then turn the feature back on, it works for a while but eventually stops.

I've had it to the dealer and they said they ordered a part for it. The part is now in and I will be bringing it in this week for service. I'll let you know if it works.

I've been dabbling with the idea of adding a wood dash kit to my 300C. They look great in all the pictures I've seen.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Possibly on a different car?

What are the downfalls? Can they be removed if they begin to look bad?

    Please advise.....Thanks
  • wantone1wantone1 Member Posts: 28
I am also looking at dash kits. They are easy to install if you follow the directions. The key component is the 3M double tape. Once on very difficult to remove. I did my 2000 Concord with a dash kit, looked great and easy to clean. Good luck
  • herminioherminio Member Posts: 11
I installed one kit to one of my 300C's because the other have the Tortoise and in the past to a Grand Marquis and a Mountaineer, easily and all of them looked awesome.

Only follow the instructions, verify carefully the fitting and clean with a damp cloth.

Does anyone on this board have a factory mounted Nav? I just picked mine up (in a new 04 Durango) and I'm more than disappointed with it. Does anyone know anything about the Navs?
  • evilbillevilbill Member Posts: 1
HOw does it work with the stock radio? Can it display song titles on the stock radio or on the HUD? I have the 300c stock radio (1 cd).

First, the bad news: While you’ll see some articles listing the chip-limited speed on US spec 300Cs as 130mph, the ones stating the limit to be 126mph are correct (personally verified).

Now, the good news: The Euro export version of the 300C is a 155mph car. The difference: a 155mph chip & better rubber. So you’re a simple Euro chip away from a 155mph car, or that and new rubber for a safer 155mph car.

To check this out yourself simply google “155mph 300C” for dozens of articles on the 300C in its Euro form (155mph chip & high speed Pirelli rubber--the only changes from US spec), or go to: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/?http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/previews/previews_story.php?id=44685

Bought my 300C Oct 30 ...6 CD changer with no Nav.
Looks like you have done some research on upgrading to a full Nav system. I too would like to upgrade to the full Nav system. Do you know if it can be done with a factory unit? If so, can anyone other than a dealer do it?
Any resources you can point me to would be appreciated.
    (PS. I'm in Calif.)

K&N now makes a filter specifically designed for the 2005 300-series cars, as well a high performance induction system to replace the stock air box. Here's that info:
    2005 CHRYSLER 300C 5.7L V8 F/I - All Automotive Typhoon Kit (SR) 69-2526TP
    2005 CHRYSLER 300C 5.7L V8 F/I - All Automotive Air Filter 33-2295

'Ordered mine tonight once I found the filter made specifically for my 300C. Was leery about ordering the Bentley workaround after reading earlier comment about throttle burst lag. (There is a 2mm height differential and a 3mm width differential between the 33-2543 (Bentley) and the 300-specific 33-295 which may possibly account for the off-idle degradation reported with the Bentley filter, if it isn't nesting in perfectly.)

It's certainly possible if your dealer will work with you. In addition to the Nav module you'll need the corresponding bezel (the plastic trim which encompasses all the central controls--clock, Nav/radio & A/C controller & vents) and the GPS antenna. 'Should have mine in later this week.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
I had it on my 300M. You do need a key in the car. However it doesn't have to be cut. Just programmed. It's hidden under the dash in a little box. That's with an aftermarket(viper) system. I know they have other bypass modules now that are electronic & are programmed without the need for a key. The factory option ones will most likely be like this.
  • mikemullin6mikemullin6 Member Posts: 16
Chrysler has a valet key out now for the 300's that is appreciably cheaper than the MB key fob with the factory security stuff. You're correct that this key does NOT need to be cut but it does need to be programmed to match the specific car's keys. Most dealers will cut the key for you at no additional charge but will charge extra to program the new key; this is unnecessary as the owner's manual gives easy instructions to program your own keys.
The aftermarket systems that do not require an extra key will still need to copy the chip from a valid, programmed key.
I have a Viper system (791 Responder system) that works great; much better range than the Chrysler one at about the same overall price. I bought 3 valet keys; one for the remote start module and 1 each for myself and my wife. I put the OEM BM keys in a drawer as they are not needed and just add bulk in my pocket.

Is your dealer doing retro fit? How long to get the parts in?

I you don't mind, approx what should I expect to pay?

    Thanks for your help.
  • f15f15 Member Posts: 13
    Yatzi,

The dealer agreed at time of purchase to order in the Nav and install at his cost. Said to expect it to take 10 days, which will be later today.
Dealer's cost on the Nav module (which has the Sound Group II radio built into it) is $1450. The bezel is approx. $50 and the GPS antenna is around $100, with $70 to swap out the modules & do all the setup of GPS, compass mag var, etc. With tax it'll be around $1790. I keep the original Sound Group II radio module & original bezel & sell on eBay.

    Hi All,

I was politely informed by Karen that I'd violated policy to have included phone number & address for a K&N filter dealer. My apologies to all. Here is the info again, minus the offending stuff:

    Correction to above:

"Ordered mine tonight once I found a filter made specifically for the 300C (all 2005 Cs...)" should read "(...all 2005 Chrysler 300 models [i.e., even the 6-cylinder versions, per K&N]).

Thanks Jim. This gives me a little leverage in dealing with my dealer. I'll find out next week when I make the request.

    Thanks again.

    Glenn,

Glad to help. FYI, all 3 components needed for the NAV conversion arrived in 8 days (to Phoenix, AZ). Installation will occur on Monday, with one of the perks of 300C ownership, a free rental car while your C is in for service, already arranged for by the dealer.

I did on my both C's. Mine is from spoilerdepot.com. The color match exactly.

Glenn, one correction: Dealer's cost on the GPS antenna is $53, not $100 as previously indicated, so you may save another $47.00

    Good luck.

thanks for your reply my spoiler is due anytime. when you installed yours was there any margin for error, by that i mean does the tape bond as to where you cant move if you didnt get it straight the first time.
  • herminioherminio Member Posts: 11
Yes, you have to be careful aligning both sides, but I was helped by my son and I cut and peeled the tape protect liner in several areas to no expose it completely until be sure the position is correct.

I love my Lava Red 300c (although I've experience *some* of the problems mentioned on this forum).

I want to add UConnect to my car (the only option I couldn't find.) My dealer wants to install the goofy "external" version - it has a little fob that is attached somewhere on the console and appears to have an external speaker.
I want the rearview mirror integrated UConnect (as it comes from the factory)

Has anyone done this or knows whether it is possible?
  • f15f15 Member Posts: 13
Installed the made-specifically-for-Chrysler 300 K&N repl. air filter, part# 33-2295, yesterday. Have experienced no throttle lag with it. 'May be slightly crisper than w/stock filter, but hard to say...was near-perfect before.

Will post if there's any good news re. fuel mileage increase.

recieved my spoiler today plan to install tommorow. the paint match was perfect. i have cool vanilla. before you installed did you use alcohal to clean the trunk where the tape sticks.

No, I only clean them very well before the installation.
  • dodgetechdodgetech Member Posts: 1
first off this is not a mass airflow system it is speed density. There is a sense in the car called the manifold absolute pressure sensor. this sensor reads both atmospheric pressure and vacuum. depending upon the amount of atmospheric pressure it varies the throttle response and fuel trim. the system on this car is very high tech and is purely drive by wire. adding a K&N air filter will not increase horsepower but will increase the throttle response time. I have been to school on this motor and the electrical system of this car. those of you looking for more power but have not bought your car yet may want to wait for the SRT-8 when it comes out. 6.1 liter hemi with just over 400hp. Also the allwheel drive models of the 300c are starting to hit the lots. Another car to look at with outstanding performance from this motor is the new Grand Cherokee.

PS. To the gentleman wanting to disconnect his ESP I have bad news. The system is more than just stability control. It is also ABS and brake proportioning and traction control. You can use the button on the dash to turn off the ESP side and then if you want to smoke the tires turn off the esp and lightly tap the brake pedal while applying the throttle. This will deactivate the ESP and the traction control temporarily.
  • yatziyatzi Member Posts: 5
    Thanks Jim.
My dealer just gave me a quote today on the system installed ...$2,340. There are about 4 dealers in the local area so I guess I'll go shopping.

    Thanks again for your help.

Who knows where to find light covers for the 300(c)?

I came across some pictures from the SEMA show, but can't find what brand it is.

Has anyone had any experience with after-market grills for the 300C. What kind of price are they bringing. Does the dealer have to do the install?
  • bigkev7000bigkev7000 Member Posts: 23
Check out this site http://www.wyckoff-mopar-parts.com I've seen the grills up close on the cars and they are sweet. The car was sitting on Emmitt Smith's or 22in. rims. Suede headliner full trim inside and out.

    Glenn,

Hold the presses. Here's a smokin' deal from eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1- &item=7934399837&category=38653&sspagename=WDVW

It's the complete Nav Radio (less bezel-$50 at dealer), + Hands Free + Satellite Radio (some small items from dealer needed here too) all for $1725. Depending on what options you already have in the car this may or may not be the perfect package for you, but the total cost beats dealer by around $500. You may also be able to contact the seller directly (a Mopar agency) and buy just the Nav radio if that's all you want or need.

    Thoughts on splash guards?

    Installation experience?
  • bbraddockbbraddock Member Posts: 46
I initially installed the one that was actually made for a Bentley. Then came the one K&N said was made specifically for the 300C #33-2295 I can't tell the difference. Gave the Bentley one to a buddy of mine that also owns a 300. I think/want to believe I get a tad more in gas mileage. I don't see a big difference in H.P. or added hustle, but darn it's quick already. Perhaps in a lower H.P. engine it is more noticable. Congrats to us all who can now claim we have Motor Trends Car of the Year!! Enjoy the drive.
  • mark_amark_a Member Posts: 22
I installed them. Not too bad and I am not someone who normally works on cars. You will have to drill some holes, some in metal and some in the plastic. It took me less than an hour, and that's with me going slow.
  • garnes1garnes1 Member Posts: 33
Thanks for looking back to July. I'm glad you know how the car works. Here's a bit of the physics:

The engine will make more or less power at WOT depending on a lot of factors. Ultimately, the biggest factor in producing power on a given engine is how much air and fuel (assuming it's at the right ratio) fills the cylinder before ignition. Yes, I'm sure you already know this. MAF or speed density, the ultimate goal is to know the MASS of the air. Density is a factor that determines the mass.

Anyway, depending on the filter media and the condition/state of the filter media and other aspects of the intake, the vacuum that is being measured will be affected.
  • yatziyatzi Member Posts: 5
Jim, thanks for the tip. I'll check it out since the best either of the two dealers I've called can only get it down to $2,200 out the door.

Question: will I lose the 6 CD changer if I install the factory nav system? One dealer said yes, the other said no.
    Regards,
    Glenn
