I have owned my 300 for approximately 4 months i had called the dealer and complained about the lights flickering and actually took it in for servicing they advised me that chrysler was aware of the problem and it was a software re programing issue and as soon as the new software is released they would call??? to have the car re programed??? they checked the alternator, battery and the instrumentation panel and could not find anything wrong with the vehicle?... yeah since then, the flickering issue has worsen and now i am just driving and the lights start to flicker for no apparent reason??? i have another appointment to bring the car in again i will let you know the status.

If it is a reprogramming issue, they have been working on it since 1998...

hi all, i'm coming to you because this forum has been extremely helpful for me. to my dismay, as i was inspecting my car today, i found a scratch on the hood of my car. how it got there, i don't know. it's not deep but i can feel a little dip in the paint. does anyone have a solution? can i get touch up paint from the dealer? is there anything the dealer's repair place can do? i don't wish this on anyone, but if anyone has had to deal with this most unfortunate of incidents, please advise. thanks.

Go to Walmart and get some of the GL-27 scratch repair treatment in a large tube. Despite my initial skepticism, it has worked pretty well for some of my minor scratches and rubs. You can get touch-up paint at Walmart too if you have the paint number/color, or you can get a little jar with internal brush of the OEM stuff for about $6 a tube at the dealer. I have never really been happy with the paint match of the OEM touch-up stuff despite big time shaking of the tube to make sure it is fully mixed. [It has a small washer inside that goes up and down mixing the paint as you shake.] If the scratch is real fine consider using a toothpick or other really narrow applicator instead of the little brush which is fairly wide. Good luck.

The fix is in. There is a svc bulletin for the flicker. They just fixed mine.
  • bigmike5bigmike5 Member Posts: 960
Whoops, sorry I got the letters wrong on the scratch remover. It was GS-27 not GL-27. It comes in about a 6" tube. Doesn't cost a lot either. Worth a try.

I have 300C AWD with 1000 miles on it. After both highway and around the block driving I am averaging 12 mpg.

The EPA sticker says 17/23. Since I am not even close to 17 I am curious if others have had this issue.

Will it be better after the break in period?

take it on the highway and set the mpg moniter to 0 and then see how it does. you should see mid 20s to low 30s depending on how fast you drive. the monitor moves quickly so if you do more city driving or a lot of idling, the mpgs drop quickly

ok, i have a 300 limited bought a month ago with now about 3500 miles on it. I took it easy the first 1000 miles (no hard accelerations, kept it under 70 mph) and had a oil change at 3000 miles. now my problem is this, when the car is stopped (i.e. at a redlight) it would sometimes go into this shaking motion. the best way to describe it would be when you're about to stall a car with a manual trans. not as violent but definetly not normal. this occurs maybe once or twice a day. the engine is pretty warm when this occurs. so my foot is on the brake and all of a sudden the car shutters a bit. i've been using 89 octane gas.

any suggestions? should i even bother? i don't want the dealer to do explorative surgery on my car just on this random occurence...

i have noticed this problem in my car as well. i am not sure what it is but it is very intermitent which makes it hard to go and get diagnosed. does your car still make the sound? if not, what did you do to fix it? i love my car, but this is really annoying and very much kills the driving experience.

please tell me what it is man!!! i need to get it fixed asap its driving me nutts other that that the car is awesome!!! Thanks......

    Hello,

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem, I received my 300 Limited with one side Chrome Wheels and the other side with hubcaps. I had to drive my car like this for two weeks while the other two wheels came in. I have contacted Chrysler Custmer Service, but I did not get a positive response (not even an apology letter/call/etc), which has been the case thru my entire (bad) buying experience with Chrysler. What can I do next?

    Hello,

Whenever I turn on the fan (especially when the AC is on) and I'm at a stop, my car vibrates intermitently. I've only driven my car 300 Limited edition (3.5 Liter, V6, 250 hp) for about 1500 miles. Is this normal? Anyone else have this problem?
  • hardhawkhardhawk Member Posts: 702
Be glad you got the right wheels and move on with your life. Yes, they should apologize for the mixup but to err is human. This is not really a big deal. They goofed, they fixed, no harm, no foul.

I hope that nobody has had a 300C experience quite like mine--despite the fact that DaimlerChrysler handled it very well.

I took delivery of my **first** 300C (Magnesiuml fully loaded) on June 2. Ran well for a few weeks, then developed a cold-idle misfire in cylinder #4. Easily diagnosed, but impossible to fix, even after bringing in engineers from HQ. Problem persisted through beginning of August, at which time DC decided to do a complete engine swap. This was finished 2nd week of August. I had a very nice loaner minivan while the work was taking place (and , in fact, had loaners for the earlier visits).

After swap, car ran well for maybe a month. Then, a strange noise/vibration began happening intermittently--apparently from the right rear, but again it was impossible to correctly diagnose. It sounded and felt as though the car were riding over the rumble strips that one usually finds while approaching tollbooths. The problem persisted, grew worse, and evolved into a generalized off-and-on drivetrain vibration.

The following fixes were attempted, in order: new halfshafts; new differential; new driveshaft. Nothing worked and the driveability of the car continued to deteriorate. At this point, after the 3rd attempt to repair, I made contact with appropriate DC officials and arrived at an agreement to completely replace the car. My lawyer reviewed the printed document and found it exceptional in its generosity.

A hot-coded order for a new 300C was placed in mid-November (identical except Cool Vanilla instead of Magnesium). I continued to drive my original 300C, with the problem mentioned above getting worse and worse, until the transmission failed totally in mid-December. The car was taken away on a roll-back and I never drove it again.

I took delivery of my new 300C the Saturday before Christmas--apparently some sort of a speed record for ordering a 300C. So far, so good--beautiful car, fast as all get out, mechanically perfect to date. I'm still trying to figure out all the memory functions--I think the car may be smarter than i am--but it's a joy. Just passed the 3K mileage mark. Drove it in snow a few times; no serious problems, but for the bad stuff my wife and I also have a new Subaru Legacy.

To sum up: I feel DC handled my case very, very well. There were times when I felt some of the repair attempts were rather "experimental" in nature (new car, new troubles) and, of course, the whole experience left a bad taste generally. But the manufacturer is making good, the new "C" is everything promised, and it still gets looks, nods, etc. from passers-by and the like.

With fingers still tightly crossed, I'm enjoying my new car thoroughly. I hope, through whatever means necessary, you all arrive at a point where you can say the same.

Yes, I have the same problem. My vehicle is back at the dealer, as I write this message. I am also having another problem with my 300 Limited. I haven't had the vehicle for a month and the dealer has had the vehicle more then I have. My vehicle engine shuts off while in reverse and turning the steering wheel to the maximum limit left or right. I suggest you try this with your vehicles also. Has anybody out there had any problems getting a replacement for their defective vehicles?

Aftering owing 300 Touring Sign. for 4months with only l,850miles i decided to get oil changed. My friends at Goodyear informed me my rack & pinion was leaking on right side of car. Took back to dealer sure enough they said a small leak. Ordered part and will take back in 3-4 days for repair. This is my 13th NEW car in my 55 years of life and never had problems so early into ownership. Hope not an "omen" being l3th and all. Other things....several round cirlces like decal sticker glue on rear window.Dealer thinks from suction cups on assembly line while installing the glass. Only shows when glass is wet. Oh yeah...my emergency trunk pull handle came off in my hand first day i touched it. Other than that i love the car. Just wondered if anyone else has had similiar problems or did i just get a "weird" 300. thanks for listening.

My Lava Red 300C was delivered on August 4th. I now have only 4,300 miles. I like everything about the car except the firm/hard ride. I've had a couple small things go wrong and the dealership has done a fine job. However, I have a problem which is starting to really irritate me. There are rattles/vibrations which seem to be coming from the center of the instrument panel whenever a bump, tar strip or rough patch of road is encountered. The dealer has taken off the trim (bezel) and padded it with foam, but the noise gets worse all the time. It spoils the driving experience in an otherwise great car. Has anyone else had this problem?

I purchased my 300C in May of 04. I currently have 16,000 miles. I had the right pull issue early on. After several alignments, they finally installed correct cam bolts and all is great. I have had several of the anomolies that have been posted here, but not with enough frequency to prompt a dealer visit.

The one that bothered me the most was an issue that I thought was related to shift points between 4th and 5th. Between 48 and 58 miles per hour,I noticed that it was running rough, almost like rpm's were too low for the gear. It was most annoying when the variable displacement was engaging between 1700 & 2100 rpm's. I often the car in 4th around town to stay out of the variable mode. I took it to the dealer, and their was a TSB on it. Apparently if you do not use the correct weight of oil, this condition would occur. I had made several oil changes at a quick lube and I verified my request for the correct oil. According to my receipt the used the right oil. Since the dealer changed the oil and filter, the variable displacement runs much smoother. I wish the ESP button would turn it off when traction control is off though. I am seeking a performance chip and someone that knows how to program it to dial in the car as much as it will allow.

Here's my list of items I either do not like, or would have had Chrysler do differently:

1)Seats- I would prefer a seat with more relaxed side bolsters on the bottom sides. I am average size and they become uncomfortable after a day in the car. I hear the seats in the SRT8 are not comfortable either. I plan to have an interior shop adjust the springs and reinforce the seat with some padding. I have noticed that some leg positions cause the cardboard seat backing to loose its bend or kind of pop downward on large bumps or repositioning. It always returns though.

2)Ride: I would have prefered a button to switch between sport and comfort modes. It definately has contact with the road. You can feel most everything, although it is muted just enough to keep it in he luxury performance class.

3)ESP: The ESP works fine under most conditions. However when the car looses traction on both rear tires, ESP kills all power to the drive unit. You gotta watch pulling out into traffic when the roads are wet or snow covered. I damn near got killed when it did this to me when I was not expecting to loose traction. I turn the ESP off when I know that pulling our may cause that. Chrysler really ought to look at that.

4)Paint: My 300C is the silver version. I have found several spots where the paint is stained, discolored or worn. It is also a little thin in its coat on the hood.

    5) Wheels: I am now in the first winter, and the chrome clad wheels are pitting. I plan to complain in the spring and get them replaced. I may pay extra to get the SRT 20's if they are not clad. My opinon is that the Conti run-flats ride hard. Goodyear will be making the tires for the SRT. I bet their 245/45-20's ride better than the Conti's. I would suggest the regular conti's unless someone else feels different.

    6) Navigation & U-Connect: I would prefer that there be a black background for night mode. The map does not dim equal to the console lights in the dash. Maybe the future NAV DVD's will address this. The NAV is too bright at night on a dark highway. I love the Sirius radio. Killer base from the sound system. There should be a steering wheel button assignment to answer and end calls. The mic level is a bit low for people on the other end. U-Connect voice commands require too many steps to a call.

7)Performance: It's to bad that they didn't make the 1st and 2nd gears lower. With the 5 speed auto, there is ample range to go to lower gears. Shift points tend to slide from one geat to another when getting on it. Crisper shifting would be nice. I wouldn't mind hearing it bark once in while. Waiting for the performance chip.

8)I think the car would handle much better lowered. I would sure like to hear from someone that used the Eibach springs with some feedback.

9)Hopefully someone will come out with a bolt on supercharger. I would love to get an SRT, but too soon to break that one on the wife. The extra ponies would be great.

10)Exhaust: The exhaust note is nice. I would like to hear from someone that has upgraded. I would like to hear the note bit deeper, calm under normal circumstances, but attention getting when I want it. Too scared to do it without hearing it first. Scared it might rap when slowing, or come off with a metallic note.

I know this is a sizeable list, but none are enough to make me dislike this car. It is still the coolest bomber on the road. Thank God Chrysler didn't give the SRT a significantly different look. I hate sucking hind [non-permissible content removed] in my ride. I hope to hang on to this and eventually morph it into a Foose like creation for weekend and evening cruising. I figure there will be huge aftermarket for performance parts by the time it goes out of warranty. Finally, I got my first speeding ticket. I am suprised it didn't come sooner. It is about impossible not to groove to the torque and power at least once every other drive or so.

Most exciting new car I have owned. Now if I can talk my wife into the hemi Durango.

I have had the same problems with the high idle. I have had my vehicle back to dealer 3 times for this- each time they could not "duplicate problem" I did explain it is intermittent. I have also had the problem with pulling into my parking spot at work and having the engine shut off. It was when the wheel was turned maxium. Again, dealer stated they could not duplicate the problem. I have not been very pleased with the car or the dealer. (Limited was purchased in July)
I also do not find the ride as quiet as they advertise it to be.

my 300 is doing the same thing (rattling sound in the center dash) too. it's driving me crazy, it comes and goes but when it's there, it's extremely annoying. and when it's not, i'm always tense because i know it'll only be a matter of time before it comes back. i haven't taken the car in yet, but it doesn't sound like there's a fix for it according to your post. have you taken it in again since? or have you figured out a fix for it? i'd love to hear any new developments. thanks.

I have 8000+ miles on my 300C and have noticed, on long trips, the smell of hot electronics.

Today when towards the end of a two hour drive, I noticed the smell and that the heater control knobs and the panel were both very hot (approx. 125F-140F).

It is 32F outside today so external factors do not seem to apply. The Nav unit was one as was the CD player.

I have noticed this smell on other long trips but never associated it with the climate controls.

Last summer the A/C quit suddenly on a 30 mile trip but seemed fine on the return trip.

I also have the rattle in the dash and the pull to
    the right.

Does anyone else have issues with the climate control system?

Has anyone else detected the smell of cooking electronics?

I don't own a 300 but I have a question. Why are most of you blaming Chrysler? Mercedes is the parent company and from what I've heard the 300 digs into MB's parts bins quite a bit. Just curious.
  • snowysnowy Member Posts: 5
My month-old 300C AWD's radio will be all static about every 10th time I start the car. This is true for AM, FM and the CD. They work, but most of what comes out is static. Then, when you park the car and come back later, it will work fine. You can't just turn off the ignition and turn it on again, and there's no apparent pattern to when it happens.

Anyone else experience this? How was it fixed?

I have the Boston Acoustics system that comes standard on the C
  • msimanmsiman Member Posts: 7
I bought my 300 c in the summer and at first it was fine. Then I started to get this knocking noise on the passenger side and the more miles I put the louder it gets. Twice the engine just shut down when I had it in park and it was idling. The silver looking piece that goes aruond the shifter keeps popping up.When it is cold out and I start the car the memory seat doe not work and I do it manually. When i have my fan on it is overly noisey even on low it's not quiet enough. AS FOR THE SMELL OF COOKING NO NOT THE SMELL BUT i PUT MY HAND ON THE FRONT WHERE ALL THE BUTTONS ARE AND THE HEAT IS TO MUCH. i POINTED THAT OUT TO MY HUSBAND AND HE SAID THAT IT IS NORMAL AND i SD NOWAY.SO he wants to get the new one they r coming out with I told him he can trade in mine. He thinks I am crazy and I told him no I really feel that My car is going to have electrical problems.I got a car that i use for my main driving so I won't miss this one.

Has anyone else had trouble with their 300 this winter? We bought the car in May and it was great until winter hit. The car sucks in the snow and has proven itself unsafe. The car (in the off position and emergency brake on) slides down the slightest of inclines. The other day I was parked in a driveway and was loading things into the car and it slid 30 feet down the driveway. It just about ran me over. Once again the e-brake was on. We have placed a call to our dealer and are awaiting a response. We were also told by the dealer that there are no snow tires avaialble for this vehicle. Im curious to see if anyone else has had this experience.
  • BobsGT235BobsGT235 Member Posts: 63
Well as for the car sliding with the e brake on, any vehicle will do this if its parked on ice or snow no matter what type of tires. Remember only 2 wheels are locked when the e brake is engaged. Which model 300 do you have, because there are snow tires available for the 300C.
  • hnburkehnburke Member Posts: 7
I have never in my life had a car that slid down the slightest of an incline. My old Pontiac sunfire drove better in the snow than this.

We have the 300C(hemi)and were told by the dealer that they don't make snow tires for the vehicle. I read on here that they may not be availabe on certain rim sizes?? It's my husbands car so he may know the wheel size but it is not standard that I know of.

I know we'd be interested in hearing about the snow tires. Who make them?

    Thanks
  • bdymentbdyment Member Posts: 573
Well, your Sunfire was front wheel drive and didn't have 340+ horsepower. When the Sunfire was in Park--the front wheels were locked and if you had the parking brake engaged--then the rear wheels were also locked. Four footprints locked on the drive way. The 300C only locks the rear wheels because it is rear wheel drive.

As far as snow tires are concerned check the tirerack.com. They are available for the 300C. The dealer should know this fact. However, some dealers just don't want to be bothered.
  • hnburkehnburke Member Posts: 7
    ok thanks.
we will look into them. I dont know why the dealer told us they are not available. We do a lot of business with them and if I do find out they are available I will be upset.

I still dont think it is safe that the car slides down inclines as much as it does. For the cost of the car, you would hope your chances of getting run over by your own car would be pretty low.
  • lj2lj2 Member Posts: 1
i had the same problem pulling away from the dealership right after purchasing (w/ 4 miles). i removed and retightened the gas cap, and light disappeared. i now have 100 miles on 300c. it problem continues, i will take to dealership to get serviced.
  • dogpounddogpound Member Posts: 4
Just got my 300c in Feb. It is now in the shop (350m) because the engine would tac up to 2500rpms befor the car would start to move. It almost seems like it was stuck in the four cylinder mode. Once its gets moving it want shift into high gear. Also on first start up in the morning there would be a hard shift going into second.
  • themanxthemanx Member Posts: 110
    I have a 2005 300 Limited with a K package.

One thing I notice and hate is the gas cap is tethered but there is not place to place the cap
once you have it remove. My dodge truck has a holder in the cover to hold the cap while fueling.

Is this how everyones is setup or am I missing something in mine?

    thanks

All you have to do to get it to drift to the right is take pressure off the wheel. The cradle adjustment was already made and it still drifts no matter what the road crown. Yes I had other people drive the car and it drifts for them. DC cannot fix the car. They told me it's a safety feature built in so you don't have a head on collision. BS

Ok.. anyone that has purchsed snow tires for the 300C I am interested in your findings.

The dealer has given us one option, Continental 4X4 Winter contact at over $200.00 a tire.

Has anyone found something else? The tires are 18s.

    thanks

I purchased Pirelli Scorpions 235-60/18 from the Tire Rack. MUCH improvement as compared to original tires. Very quiet winter tire and better handling on dry pavement than originals. Great stopping on ice/snow. Couple of bags of sand in the trunk also help.

Does anyone know if the 300 SRT will be available in AWD anytime soon.
  • chrisnj1chrisnj1 Member Posts: 13
Has anyone had this issue? When my 300 Limited is parked in my level garage, the car leans 1 1/4 inches to the right front. The car steers well, no drift. Tire pressure is perfect.

There is a yellow wire that runs over the emergence brake in the wire harness. It happen to me the wire shorts out on the emergence brake there is a service bulletin on it now.
  • dogpounddogpound Member Posts: 4
I don't understand what does this yellow wire has to do with my trans problem. In the morning there is a hard shift between 1st and 2nd. The rest of the day the shift is fine. what is the bulletin number.

so, i've had my 300 for about 6 months now and i'm just about to reach 6K miles. not bad considering all the driving that i do. anyways, i'm still hearing this rattle from the center console that is annoying the heck out of me. i've read that one or two other people have this same problem, but there hasn't been a solution as of yet. does anyone else have this problem? i also will get a slight rattle from my driver and front passenger door. don't get me wrong, i love my car and when it's quite, it's my "happy place" but when it's rattling, it's my biggest pain. thanks for any advice you can give.
  • intrepidspiritintrepidspirit Member Posts: 662
My 2003 300M had a lean of about 3/4" to the left. At the time I discovered it, I was having a slight drift to the left. The dealer told me the difference side to side was within tolerances and did not cause the drift...

The drift went away after about 5,000 miles so I didn't pursue it further.

2005 300C with 665 miles and no problem then yesterday on acceleration (around 35-40 mph) serious vibration resembling driving over "rumple strips." Symptom went away with more acceleration but returned again when easing off gas.

Straight to dealer and loaner car yesterday. Today I stopped by to see what they had learned and the head tech guy said that when the AC was on a vibration caused the transmission filler tube become loose allowing some water to get into the transmission fluid. Solution: purge old tranny fluid with several flushes, new fluid and seal the filler tube. I pick the car up tomorrow. Anyone ever hear of this problem before?
  • jwitsjwits Member Posts: 2
Picked the car up this morning -- everything is o.k. Apparently the AC evaporation coil is just above the transmission fill tube and if the dip stick is not properly "seated" there is enough of a gap to allow water to get into the transmission fluid. The dealer techy described it as "a strawberry shake" in color and composition. He said that this was the second case that he has seen and would not be surprised if there was a recall soon. In any case, all is great now with the car.
  • moddogmoddog Member Posts: 10
My car has a vibration in it between 52 to 58mph when driving on a level road. I was suppose to drop it off on Tuesday but the dealer called and said that there was a TSB that just came out. They have to replace three peaces of the exhaust system which they have to order.I hope that this will fix the problem I already had the tranns control Modula replaced.
  • moddogmoddog Member Posts: 10
The yellow wire goes to the transmission control mod. when this happen the car would not come out of first gear after turning the car off and restarting it would work ok I do not have the TBS number.I hope that this helps in some way
  • jcsganga34jcsganga34 Member Posts: 24
    Moddog,

I know of lots of people who are having the vibration problem. Is it possible for you to get the actual TSB number for the exhaust fix from your dealer? We have been unable to find it.

    Thanks

Just turned over 5000 Miles on my 300C "LOVE IT" except for one problem I'm seeing or better I'm hearing. At around 52-55 MPH I hear a whine which seems to be coming from the rear end, I asked the service manager about this noise and he said all cars have this whine. Well I've been driving for almost 50 years and have bought more than 20 new cars and none have had this whine. Has anyone else heard this noise?
  • tinman1tinman1 Member Posts: 13
Dose the whine go away at any speed higher then 55? was the whine there before 5000 miles? Tom
  • djonesdjones Member Posts: 3
I too have a slight rattle in the area of the GPS screen and right side of dashboard(more of a squeak here). Had in for service, leaking rack/pinion under 2K miles and told service dept of rattle/squeak. They said it wouldn't do it for them and sometimes it doesn't for me. Seems if weather is warm it doesn't happen. Go figure! Most complemented new car i have ever owned even from teenagers!!
