So, bon chance Abyss Blue TL. I will never forget you, an all around wonderful car. First payment on the Cat isn't due until late next month.
Congratulations on the new car. I truly hope that you enjoy it.... but please, please don't refer to it as "the Cat". To me, that just sounds pretentious, and you risk confusing non-car people into thinking that you drive earth-moving equipment or an old Mercury. :P
Perhaps I'll get the ION a fancy wash and get some pics to post. Yeah, it's a 4-cyl slushbox compact, but it's all mine, and I'm a bit proud of that.
Perhaps I'll keep the CX-7 long enough to turn in my CCBA membership card .. or, perhaps I'll get my mid-life crisis car when I turn 50 (December 2013).
Have been looking for a month or two. As I confessed in the "I'd rather have an iPad" discussion, I ordered a new iMac tonight. 27" wheels display, 400 horsepower quad-core i7 processor. The last one I bought was a 2008 model I got in 2009. Went with a new one this time since they just updated the model. Much cheaper than a new car.
I do some demanding stuff (virtual machines) on my home computer, so I can use the extra power. I don't have a car payment, but I do have a computer payment now (12 months same as cash). I was hoping to get a Macbook Air at the same time to replace my junky netbook, but am waiting for a better processor and a backlit keyboard on the Air.
Perhaps I'll keep the CX-7 long enough to turn in my CCBA membership card
I know I am getting the itch really bad... It been 25 months since I've bought anything. I want to replace the Genesis, but I just don't know with what. I know I should wait the 11 months to finish off the lease, but.....
My findings are as follows.
The 2011 Avalon is just too similar to my 06
The Taurus I like but the center console/small footwell area turns me off.
The Lexus ES350 is nice but due for a redesign and the Avalon is the smarter choice anyway.
Acura TL rides too hard/smallish.
Chrysler 300.. won't go there.
There just aren't that many choices in a larger car in the 32K-38K range.
I've thought about maybe a CPO MKS, but from what I read they ride hard and don't have the handling to match.
I've also seriously considered a Town Car which I love, but really give up alot in the "tech" department.

FWIW, I would suggest staying put until the lease is up. Hard to trade out of a lease without major $$$'s from your pocket, unless you go with the same manufacturer. And, I'm guessing you aren't going to get an Equus ... or another Genny.
Do you have a prejudice against Chrysler products? I'd think the redesigned Charger would be a sweet ride, especially with the Hemi.
FWIW, I would suggest staying put until the lease is up.
I most likely will. My buyout is 22,800. I'm probably about a 1000 -1500 out of equity. That sounds bad, but, when you consider this thing will need tires before it goes back and there is a dispo fee on Hyundai's leases it may be a wash.
If I trade it, and decide to buy this time I also have a pretty large sales tax break (21k x 7% which is pretty close to the out of equity situation).
My ideal solution would be to sell it now, buy nothing and drive my truck (after I fix the A/C ) for a few months or more. My GF and I work at the same place and there is nothing wrong with her 08 Elantra.
As for the Chrysler, I drove one back in 06 before I got my Avalon. Its a nice ride with the Hemi, but, I just don't like the looks. The new Charger is better, but just doesn't do it for me.
And, I'm guessing you aren't going to get an Equus ... or another Genny.
Definately not another Genesis, and the Equus is way out of my price range. The Azera is due for a redesign soon I believe, might be worth waiting.
was going to mention the Azera. sounded like your cup of Hyundai all along!
out of left field, but how about a Volvo S80? Seems big to me, maybe not to you though! Lots of tech on it, and porbably killer lease deals. Plus I know the owner at Cherry Hill!
the S80 is pretty reliable now, and costs nothing to own for 5 years (IOW, under your lease!) except possibly tires.
I sat in one at the car show. It didn't seem to fit me well. I can't remember, but maybe the seat just wasn't adjusted properly. It's a bit smaller than my Genesis, which doesn't feel big to me at all. When I decide what the heck I want to do, I'll have to drive one.
They seem to get pricey really quickly. The base model has 240 HP. Seems low for a 38k+ car. The T6 option bumps it to 300, that is more like it.
they are not at all like the early ones (2001 vintage or so). Besides, it wil lbe under warranty the whole time, and they offer loaners so you would not even be out wheels if it did need something done.
might have been the seat adjustments, because that car has about the best seats going right now. Certainly would not judge on that based on a quick sit, until you had a chance to play with all the settings.
240hp not enough? I have driven an XC 90 with that engine, and that seemed plenty quick.
Yes, the MSRP can get up there, but the lease deals if you time it right can be very good.
hey, just a thought, and certainly worth a drive since the dealer is nice and close (and a very friendly place to do visit).
besides, needing a car is the perfect excuse to drive everything even vauguely under consideration, without feeling guilty!
Even if you were to buy your next car, there still wouldn't be a sales tax credit since you pay tax as you go on leases.
Ok, that is something I'll have to check into. At one point a while back, a dealer told me if he bought out my lease and showed it as a trade in, I would get the tax credit.
The sales tax credit (in most states) happens on the new (or used) car purchase, and you're credited for the sales tax on the value of your trade-in. It has nothing to do with whether the previous vehicle was leased or not... you just pay tax on the difference between the value of your trade and what you're buying.
Or do you have to pay sales tax when you buy out a lease?
A NY Times reporter is looking to talk with someone who traded in a car - or plans to trade one in - because the value had gone up or because the dealer contacted them asking if they would trade in. If you’d like to discuss this experience, please contact pr@edmunds.com by noon this Friday.
Jersey gives you a credit for the trade in value (so you just pay tax on the difference). Does not matter what you paid originally, what you owe, or 99% sure if it was a lease.
you trade it in, dealer nets vs. the new car for sales tax calculation, and then pays off whatever financing.
Thankfully in Alaska we don't have sales tax on cars.....yet. I'm sure in the future there will be state sales tax. I've never paid sales tax on a car before.
Do you have a yearly "property tax" or anything like that? In NJ we pay sales tax when we buy and small yearly registration (based on vehicle classs, most under $100/yr)
I'm still in the break in mileage with my 328 and the base engine with its 230hp scoots right along when asked to.
I was fortunate to also be able to test drive a 328i coupe with a manual transmission a few months ago and was pleasantly surprised by how quick it was.
That's just about it, mine had different wheels and they changed the front/rear end styling for '10 (vs. my '09). Of course, looks much better in person!!!
And, of course, it being British, I've already had my first electronic gremlin, the AM radio is MIA. Normally wouldn't care but the Red Sox games are on AM! Hello, warranty...
I'll try to post pix, I'm not much of a photog. Don't know where I'll post it to link, maybe to Carspace? Does that still exist?
Son believes it is simply the precursor to the Aston Martin DB9 I'll buy and give to him in four years. Ummm, no.
'21 Dark Blue/Black Audi A7 PHEV (mine); '22 White/Beige BMW X3 (hers); '20 Estoril Blue/Oyster BMW M240xi 'Vert (Ours, read: hers in 'vert weather; mine during Nor'easters...)
Despite the lovingly-maintained, M3 with a long-term owner we see in the article, I get the feeling that BMW's image problem is not getting better. Three of the eight cast members of "The Jersey Shore" rolled up to the shore house in BMW products at the beginning of the last season.
Although Cadillac provides two Escalades for them to drive over the summer, only one cast member has a Cadillac as his personal car, and it's a DTS.
Do you have a yearly "property tax" or anything like that? In NJ we pay sales tax when we buy and small yearly registration (based on vehicle classs, most under $100/yr)
Only thing we have to pay is a sales tax at registration time every 2 years but that's just for the borough not the state. Its around $130, not too bad. In other areas of Alaska that doesn't have to be paid since they don't have sales tax everywhere.

What, exactly, would you expect to be different between the "stock" photo and the actual car? The background?
Just sayin'

You do realize that I'm yanking your chain? I, too, want to see the new Jaguar (jag-yoo-ar, not jag-wire) that was bought.
I've posted pictures of both the CX-7 and the MINI shortly after purchase, though I don't think I've ever taken a picture of the ION.

Really? I cna't think of ANY car that would cause more trouble, heartbreak and expense than an S80 of not that many years ago.
That includes Audi, Land Rovers and Volkswagens which says a LOT!
Sorry, you couldn't pay me to buy one of those even though they "may" have improved.
I will say they are nice cars to look at and even nicer to drive.

Therefore, there can't be a sales tax credit for taxes you never paid!
If you end up buying the car at lease end, you would have to pay the sales tax on whatever the residual is.
