No excuse of course, but this thing is much more apt to happen at a Honda/Acura lot because they are mostly all configured the same. I couldn't see it happening at a Ford or GM lot because rarely are there "twin" cars.
Worse for the dealer but not the customer. She won't get anything close to a million but after legal fees it might be pretty sweet. I hope it happens to me next car I buy.
Saw an ad in this week's paper touting (1) Nissan Leaf for $275/month plus tax ($0 down/12 k per year). As an almost $40K car, I personally think the leaf is absurd, but for less than $300 per month including tax it would be an interesting experiment. I wonder how much a home charger would be & how much the electric bill would go up.

You've owned too many cars when you don't need to buy touch up paint because you have the right color bottle in the garage from a previous vehicle.
There's a shelf in the garage that could almost pass as a parts dept for a few different makes of vehicles. I'm always finding various floor mats, touch up paint, headlamp bulbs, and who knows what else around that shelf.
On another note I was able to find a pretty decent set of used winter tires for the Yaris today. Only paid $60, probably be around $60 to have them put on. That will be a grand total of $1700 to outfit 3 vehicles with winter tires in the past 2 weeks. My Sierra was $850 of that and of course now it's demanding a $90 oil change......the nerve of some trucks!!!!
If you keep collecting, you could start your own junkyard!
I had the wheels on the 540i balanced and rotated today, and the tire shop discovered that the rear brake rotors were cracked. $200 and change later, and my brakes no longer vibrate.
They also discovered that my headlight level sensor was broken--I think I can fix that with some JB Weld.
Heck, with enough adapters she could probably duplicate Johnny Cash's "One Piece at a Time" and build a unique car from all those parts.
I don't keep THAT many parts around......I don't think
Lets see, I usually sell all the winter tires from prev vehicles, so currently only have 5 sets, still have to buy a summer set for the Sierra. So only have bulbs, touch up paint, floor mats, a coin tray, and maybe a couple stereos laying around. Then again that's just in the garage, don't look in the trailer.
I think my project for this weekend should be clean out my junkyard.....errr garage. :P
Traded my 08 BMW 528 XI (deer ran into passenger front fender last month...) for 2013 Audi A6 Prestige-white/beige with full LED headlights, 20 inch wheels and all weather mats. Got the A6 for about $200 over invoice and they showed me $20000 for my BMW. Also got $1000 conquest cash for going over to the dark side. (Oh all the negative things I have said about Audi over the years now come back to bite me in the backside.) Local credit union had 1.9% financing for 63 months too. Only screwy thing is that on the paper work the amount financed is $125 LESS than the principal amount. Finance guy says it is the credit union fee, but the fee was added and then subtracted out of the total (when I picked up the car he said it was illegal for them to charge a fee...). Looks like it is a ripoff fee from the dealership. Don't know if I should call the credit union and have them tell me he is FOS and call him out on it ??? Also the finance guy claims they don't offer Audi extended service contract, but offered one (the mechanic from resource automotive) and was kind enough to offer me Audicare prepaid maintainance for $40 more than msrp. Mark
>> lso the finance guy claims they don't offer Audi extended service contract
Translation: "We make more on aftermarket contracts, and we don't want to clog up the shop doing tons of work at the discounted rates that Audi pays."
The first point is undoubtedly true, the second one is only a guess. And while it's possible that Audi can't "force" a dealership to offer Audi's extended warranties, I think it's crazy that they wouldn't. I would not want to own an out-of-warranty Audi without an ESC, and I wouldn't ever want a third-party ESC, either.
This sounds extremely fishy to me. Cheers -Mathias
The $125 is bothersome because if they charge each transaction that fee, you are talking about a considerable amount of cash if they move 1000 new and used cars a year. I guess I was just raised that right is right and wrong is wrong.
I've bought several extended contracts on worrisome cars. A jeep, Chevy Astro and a chrysler. All had dismal reliability and you guessed it, never used them once. Next one I buy, there won't be any concern in that regard thanks to my anxiety meds. If I can afford the car, I can afford to maintain it and get it repaired. :shades:
I know I bought a car that was financed through a credit union, they had to set up an account with the credit union for me before they would finance the car. It wasn't until I paid it off after a few months that I found out that I have a savings account with $5 in it. The $125 might be the minimum amount to setup an accounts in order to then get financing from them.
Cleaning out my junkyard aka the garage, we decided to get crazy and wash/wax the Focus and *grumble* the Sierra. Hubby sent me to the parts store for some other washing supplies while he finished the Focus, when I got back we both looked at the truck and groaned.
After an hour and a half, a good wash and wax I have to say the old girl looks pretty darn good. The truck has a lot of oxidation which wasn't helped much by wax, but what was helped surprisingly was the surface scratches and swirling from the prev owner running it through car washes. However, once it was waxed the true horror of rock chips took hold, I'm guessing that truck has over 2000 and that's no joke, they are everywhere, hood, rocker panels, doors, fenders, roof, tailgate, just everywhere. It would probably take me an entire day and several bottles of touch up paint to cover them. Not worth it. What it did lead to was a name for the truck, she has been named Chippy and boy does it fit! Wow, talk about paint damage. I'm not usually one for naming a vehicle, have only named a few, in this case it seemed fitting.
The finished product, hard to get a good picture due to the reflections in the paint, haven't had that problem with this truck before.
saw what might be the first TV ad I have seen for one. On the Giants game, so I guess they know the audience!
There is actually one that lives near me. Modest range house in an older neighborhood, where over the years they have mostly had domestics (Chevy impala, a Fusion I think, stuff like that). now that have an Equus in the garage.
Not gonna happen. I've had the truck for 6 months and am still as happy with it as I was the day I bought it.
My only complaint is after 6 tries to set up the Onstar I still haven't gotten it done, they get close then the call disconnects. Very frustrating.
Tomorrow ill take it in for an oil change.....$89.95 and an air filter since the meter is in the red, who knows how much that will be. It's too complicated for me to do.
All in all cool truck and I'm happy with it, glad I traded the 2011 F-150 in on it.
It's a used truck, although nice looking, OK, so it has a few chips. Just touch them up and it'll look better.
I think it would be easier to have it repainted. The overwhelming amount of chips is staggering. I've seen rock chips on used vehicles but this is ROCK CHIPS as in it would probably take me hours to get it done. Like I told hubby, if we get a few cold days this winter and I can't find anything else to do, um like scrub floors, clean toilets, wash the cats......you get the picture, then I'll work on touching the chips up. At least we have a heated garage.
If memory serves, there are repair companies who can do chip repair with some type of wipe-on filler/paint, without having to do a full respray. That might be an option if you have numerous chips.
That 525i wagon is gorgeous, in spite of the dings and scratches. Love the color and the alloy wheels, and it has Michelin tires, so it's likely that the owner took good care of it.
Heeply Hello, sorry for answering a message as old, that is also really like these old VW, I have one of those in the sedan version of 1987! In Brazil it was called Santana and Santana Quantum SW version, not the version Hatchback existed since the first generation Passat (marketed here only hatchback version with the same name Passat) coexisted until 1989 with Santana. My version is the most complete of the season, with 1.8 engine, but had the 2.0 engine option. 2.0 engine, air conditioning, power steering, power locks, laminated windscreen, 3-point seat belts for rear seats, center armrest, etc., were not only luxury items but also new to the national industry. But until the end of production, Santana never had a bigger engine or 16V, ABS brakes, cruise control, independent rear suspension, much less the legendary 4x4 full syncro. He knew that the dreaded Audi Quattro had the same body design and much of the transmission syncro? It's the only car I know of that did extinguish a category of racing! (Super Rally cars category). Over the years, the news was to be the first electronic injection of fuel in Brazil (EX santana 1991), MKIII update for the Passat in '92 with EFI and optionally in the '94 E.F.I. became standard. After a decade of some facelift, where he lost the post of luxury car market to not compete with the Passat, which entered the domestic market in 1998 - was discontinued in 2005. Although love this car, with a resistance that recalls the cars of the 70s, I know that Audi, VW and especially today did not take anything from this project since the very left of designing durable cars. And by extension the popular car industry today is an embarrassment, and disposable cars are very expensive! For 2013 VW Brazil is considering the return of Santana! For those reports, discovers that the body is not the fox sedan (a compact car) elongated and makeup! Glad to know that the wonderful country of Cadillac's, Lincolns, and muscle car's, there are those who admire cars geared more practicality. Well, even more! A hug, buddy!
Hello, lilengineerboy! I understand when you say "should not love them" I have the sedan version sold in Brazil as Santana GLS. But here we have never had wheel drive, an engine bigger than 2.0, disc brakes on all four short, much simpler. Maybe I'm afraid that my should be simpler to keep working. Anyway this SW marketed in the U.S. should be impressive for the time, the admiration is understandable that keeps some. Here in Brazil the line Santana is a legend, stopped being produced in 2005 having never get upgraded to the 3rd generation of the Passat, demonstrating a lack of concern for consumers who already lay Santana as a reliable car. Now a marketing ploy to Brazil VW Fox plans to launch a sedan elongated using the name of the car so that its consumers protested extinguish, as they do with the new betlle that the old version with the air-cooled rear engine was called in Brazil of "fusca" for 2013 will do a facelift in new bettle (based on golf 4th generation) and call it a "fusca"! So long friend and thank you!
Saabs have never had great resale value and outside of some hardcore fans, they really suffer at the auctions and car lots. Even when they were still in business they were always "back of book" cars.
And, now they are out of business and people fear lack of support, parts availability etc.
For a Saab lover willing to stick his neck out, that is a lot of car for the money to be sure!
Hello! I also like this VW, but marketed in Brazil, despite being the most technological car at the time, was mechanically simpler than the SW syncro. I have the sedan version that here called Santana. A curiosity, the Golf in Brazil (which is still manufactured here in the facelift generation IV) costs at least U.S. $ 24,287.62 version 1.6 engine with no options and not including shipping. Seems expensive, and it is! So automakers have carts that can only be manufactured here, as the gol (VW), the palio (fiat), the Celta (GM), Ford Ka, etc.. Mini cars generations launched in Europe 10 years ago, but they are big sellers here. One Gol, which two years ago "evolved" into the body of the IV polo (but it is still offered in the factory in the previous version), with 1.0 8V engine without "luxuries" such as airbag, air conditioning, power steering, head restraints and belt 3 points for rear occupants, or a green glass, finally, naked, goes for U.S. $ 13,880.00 (excluding shipping) the same price as an Audi A6 1998! With a 1.6 liter 8V and some basic items such as A / C, power steering, electric windows, sound system with bluetooth with steering wheel controls, fog lamp and green glasses (wow!) sells for over $ 20,000.00! Other manufacturers offer mini cars (called here "popular cars") in the same price range, and level of motorization options. It is common for marketers in advertising campaigns evoke the popular saying that "brazilians are passionate about cars," i think we are stupids! Here parade car shows zero status, whether it's a product without comfort, safety, outdated and out of price. Thank you and sorry for the long text!
Hell, if anything, I think its still overpriced... for all the reasons isell states.
and... yup... just as I suspected. The nicest one in the country at the auction went for $9k last month with 39k miles and an auto trans. Figure that probably puts this one at maybe $8k at best. $11k retail would be the absolute end of the world!

Nice wagon. And has to be very rare. Love the colors too. Don't have a good vibe about the seller or the ad, though the seller has solid feedback FWIW.
This M Sport is tempting. Airfare to San Diego is only $270. Even my wife is thinking about it(she still misses her '98 ti). Sell the Mazda for @$10K and bank the difference. I even have a set of OEM 15" E36 wheels that could be used for winter rubber...

Confession time... 70% of my DIY projects turn out okay, 20% turn out extremely well, and 10% end in disaster. On the whole, I come out ahead (I think). I noticed the serpentine belt on the Altima was dried out and had excessive cracking and decided to change it, so I ordered a new belt online. Popped the passenger wheel well liner off, got the old belt off, and couldn't get the new one on. Bought Nissan's special tool for changing the serpentine belt (a little over $100 shipped), which didn't help. I had it towed to the Nissan dealer today and they put the new belt on for $90. AAA covered the tow. I have a useless Nissan serpentine belt tool if anyone is interested. :P
I looked in the showroom and they had a Maxima, two Rogues, and one other vehicle. No 2013 Altimas. :confuse: The Rogue is one of their oldest and least competitive vehicles, why have it in the showroom? The Altima is their newest vehicle, and midsize sedans are probably the most competitive segment, but they didn't see fit to put one in the showroom. I briefly looked at one on their lot, but it was raining pretty hard. The one I saw was a four cylinder which stickered for around $25k and had alloy wheels and a power seat but no sunroof or leather seats. The seat fabric looked cheaper than my 2009 model, but I didn't look it over much beyond that.
Really neat. I think breld had one like that, except it was a stick and had fewer miles.
Yeah, we sold ours earlier this year. No real M-sport package, but it was a stick. As nice of condition as it was in (w/ 110k miles), we miss it sometimes. I think I got more attention and compliments on that car than most of our other cars costing many times more!
I'm not sure anyone else will really care, but with my current obsession with high MPG cars, I'm pretty excited about the changes Mazda made for 2013 for the Mazda3.
For their base 5-door model (with the SkyActiv engine), they added some nice standard features - USB input, auto climate control and their keyless system.
And what's nicer, they added the 6-speed manual as an option on the Grand Touring model, which adds a sunroof, nav, upgraded stereo, blind-spot monitoring and leather.
Previously, they only offered the 6-speed manual with the SkyActiv engine in the "base" touring model.
I had been pretty set on a VW TDI model at some point, but I may reconsider if I can get a Mazda3 with all those nice features for less money.
Don't know what to do now. All 3 vehicles are washed, waxed, and interiors cleaned. Started touching up the chips on the Sierra, although I think I wore more paint in the end.
The urge to car shop is still very strong, but we don't need anything. I was having fun car shopping with the kid, then hubby. I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through you guys.
Taking the Sierra to the dealer in the morning for an oil change and to have the diesel tech look at it, something isn't right. Fuel economy has dropped from 19ish hwy to 14 and 15ish city to 11 and the truck seems to be lacking power. Feels like I'm pulling a trailer all the time. Thankfully the diesel tech at this dealer is awesome and knows this truck well. I'm sure it's something minor and I'll get it back tomorrow afternoon. No, I won't let my wandering eyes get the best of me.....

What do you think about the undisclosed $125 fee??
Mark
Eh. I'm thinking it's part of the $20k for the repaired BMW... It's by way of being in the noise for a $50k+ transaction.
Since it's Sunday, I'd say it falls somewhere between the laborer being worthy of his hire, and not muzzling the ox that treadeth the corn...
If I were the finance manager, I wouldn't mess with peanuts like that and risk upsetting a customer. But I'm not in the business, so what do I know.
I'm much more worried about not offering the Audi ESC -- unless you didn't want one anyway, in which case it's moot.
No matter who runs the ESC, you want someone with a stake in happy customers. So I'd always get the "official" one or skip it and bank the money.

Yeah, we sold ours earlier this year. No real M-sport package, but it was a stick. As nice of condition as it was in (w/ 110k miles), we miss it sometimes. I think I got more attention and compliments on that car than most of our other cars costing many times more!
