Finally, a good photo of the audio/dash wihtout the navigation screen:

    http://www.vtec.net/articles/article-image?image=396471/06civic-39.jpg

Also, this is interesting about the keyless system:
    ========quote==================================
    Keyless Entry System
Keyless entry is standard equipment on Civic LX and above models. The wave key design has an integrated transmitter in the handle with lock, unlock, trunk open and panic buttons. Civic EX, Si and Hybrid models also have a remote trunk release button located on keyless entry transmitter to allow easy access into the trunk.

    Engine Immobilizer
Complementing the keyless entry system is a standard engine-immobilizer system. A special electronically coded key prevents the car from being started-even if a mechanical duplicate of the key is used. A transponder, built into the key, signals the immobilizer control unit that the key is genuine. If the car is hot-wired, or an unauthorized key is used, the engine will not start.

    Laurelgrae,

Sorry to hear about your Corolla S. Unfortunately Toyota does not build the S with ABS. Side airbags are becoming more common on the S though. Usually in a package with a moonroof.

I hope you all are planning to attend the Honda Civic Chat tomorrow night. I've seen a lot of good questions posted here, and it'd be nice to see what the Honda reps have to say in response.

Hybrid buyer: Not only did you agree to pay MSRP if you take delivery before 1 Jan 2006 you will loose the estimated 2600-2800 dollar tax CREDIT. IF before then you will only get the 2000 tax deduction which is worth only $200-600 depending on your tax bracket or in some cases nothing at all. This is fact check it out. Delay your buy. This is all part of 8 AUG signed energy bill. you can check the hybrid web sites for details

However once dealers smell this their will be adjusted market price aka rip off.

In general the new Civic is an appealing package, but I am concerned by the fact that the trunk is smaller. I personally prefer a hatchback for its utility but have been drawn to considering the new Civic simply because it gets such good gas mileage. But only 11.5 cu ft for the coup and 12 for the sedan? Thats getting awfully small...
  • ctalkctalk Member Posts: 646
to not like the dash, but now its growing on me :D

    Looks great.

billmchale: The Mazda 3 has 11.4 cu ft, the Civic still has a slightly bigger trunk.

Unless you're a member of the mafia, I dont see why trunk size is much of a concern.

If you really want to haul something, get or borrow an SUV, Van, or pickup truck. Most people already have one or know someone that has one.
  • snowdaddyosnowdaddyo Member Posts: 53
It might be a concern if you have more than 1 young child and need to lug the stroller + all their other stuff around day to day.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Consumers can expect retail gas prices to rise to $4 a gallon soon but whether they stay there depends on the long-term damage to oil facilities from Hurricane Katrina, oil and gas analysts said Wednesday.

"There's no question gas will hit $4 a gallon," Ben Brockwell, director of pricing at the Oil Price Information Service, said. "The question is how high will it go and how long will it last?"
  • tawneycattawneycat Member Posts: 114
Civic sales slipped when SUVs took over. Now the trend will reverse, I cannot imagine a Ram 4x4 quad cab and the 11-12 mpg real world.
All civics regardless of model look to be efficient, quiet and generally nice.
  • tradscotttradscott Member Posts: 108
    That sounds pretty well equipped.

The EX has ABS, EBD, power rear view mirrors, teloscopic steeing column, and height adjustable seat. You used to have to buy a much more expensive car to get some of these features.
  • chidorochidoro Member Posts: 125
The EX also has an outside temp indicator, 4 wheel disc brakes, rear seat armrest, audio steering wheel control, and remote trunk release. That's a lot of nifty things to substantiate what would probably be a $1,500 price bump. Maybe not for everyone, but I would have trouble not having a moonroof any longer so I have to justify it somehow ;)

Which of these two cars should I go with? The Acura RSX has 160 horsepower, when the Civic has 140. The acura RSX gets 25 to 34 mpg and the Civic gets 30 to 40 miles a gallon. The acura RSX would cost around $350 a month at a 0% APR. The Civic EX would $330 a month at a 5.9% interest rate. The Acura RSX has a 4 year/ 50,000 mile warranty. Honda Civic has a 3 year/ 36000 mile warranty. It looks to me that Honda has implemented a lot of the cool features from the RSX on to the Civic. Such as the climate control. Two cool cars, and one tough decision. I am leaning towards the Acura RSX. But, I will need to see a civic in person before I make my decision.
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Where did you get the RSX at 0% interest? Is there a special on Acura's website?
  • corey415corey415 Member Posts: 49
Well if you are going to buy one of those monster strollers I see kids in nowadays, you probably would want to buy a monster suv along with that.

When I was a kid, my parents used a simple, foldable stroller that could fit in any car.

Wow, i cant wait to test drive the new SI, its gonna destroy everything in its class, even some cars not in its class lol. Im going to buy one asap but does anybody know what the finance rates will be in Ontario for the SI? I hope they arent over 7%
  • hondaguy13hondaguy13 Member Posts: 5
does anybody know the 0-60 time for the new SI? hopefully low 6's, but high 5's would b nice :)
  • tawneycattawneycat Member Posts: 114
3-36 bumper to bumper 5-60 powertrain

Plus EX has one touch sunroof!!!!
  • billmchalebillmchale Member Posts: 107
Ctalk.. .Yes the Mazda3 sedan has a smaller trunk, but they offer a hatchback version. If the Mazda 3 5 door got 35 MPG or better it would be on my list of cars.

Corey... There are a whole lot of reasons or things you might want a large trunk for. One of my hobbies is amateur astronomy so a large trunk makes it easier to get my telescopes and stuff into the car (as opposed to taking up passenger space). Same would be true if you were going camping (you don't need a SUV for that).
  • carguy000carguy000 Member Posts: 55
If you don't mind my asking, where did you read that the '06 warranty would include 5/60 powertrain coverage?

Although I haven't needed the extra coverage on my current '01 Civic, I'd welcome it.

    Thanks.

True, but is Honda bringing over the Hatchback version of the Civic?
  • corey415corey415 Member Posts: 49
Nope. No hatch coming to US.

However, if you want a hatch that bad the Honda Fit is coming soon.
  • corey415corey415 Member Posts: 49
Well, I drove a 95 Integra in college, I still drive it everyday.

It is a hatchback, and I can honestly say I used the full capabilites (rear seats down) of the trunk less than 10 times. Most of the time, my trunk is empty. Lets put it this way, for me the rear seat was used more than the trunk is used. A big trunk is not a priority for me.

I understand that you want a bigger trunk. Not all of us do. When the car comes out, test drive it and bring your astronomy equipment along. Do a test fit. If it dont fit, then that means you need to look for a different car.

  • user1235user1235 Member Posts: 84
Are you saying the base SI will retail at $19500 (MSRP) ?
What doesn't it have compared to the $24K model ? I hope the base SI still has the 6-spd manual, LSD, 200 hp, 17/18" wheels - any info ?

If it does, I will be all over this car. no question

like I said all along, if the SI is priced below $20K I will get it
  • ba7467ba7467 Member Posts: 3
I just received car and driver the other day and honda est. a time of 7.3 0-60. This seems to be a little high considering the type-s does it a second quicker. My guess it will be around mid 6's when they actually test it.

There are articles on the test drives in the new CaDr and Road a Track.

Haven't seen anything on the1/4 mile times.
  • ba7467ba7467 Member Posts: 3
The base price will be under $20,000 Honda says. They say the max will be roughly $24,500 because the options of 18in wheels, leather, navigation system and other small things such as fog lights ect.

This is what the articles said in my mags.
  • ba7467ba7467 Member Posts: 3
Sorry I keep remembering things after I post a message.

    The base si:
The engine is rated at 197 hp and 139 tor
    It will have 17in wh
It will not have navi or xm the stereo I believe will still have a 7 speaker system
    6 speed short ratio
my guess all season tires because the high performance will be an upgrade.

I am sure I have missed things but pick up any new oct. mag and I am sure it will be in there.

    lots of info now!

Base Civic SI will have 17" rims, there will be a package you can get from dealers with 18"ers and summer tires. I bet that adds to the price a bit!

Obviously they have taken almost everything off an RSX-S and made it standard in the new SI for about $4K less (sticker). Oops, wave bye-bye to RSX sales (and the model as a whole!)...

I am still a little disappointed that from now on EXs will have the same powertrain as the other Civics.

The DX is SO OBVIOUSLY the stripper model now: not only is it the only trim with smaller (although now 15") rims, it has no A/C and no radio????

In the days of $12K Accents that have all that stuff, and with the Fit coming next year, I am surprised that Honda is reaching that far into the pricing basement with so little equipment to offer at that price.

On the plus side, tilt and telescopic wheel and all airbags including side curtains on all trims is decently impressive, I think. I notice that NAV is optional in the sedan, but HIDs are not, so it still doesn't quite match the level of optional equipment you can get on the Mazda3. But it knocks the Corolla out of the park for the time being. And should easily make mincemeat of the Cobalt. Are there any other real contenders? Maybe a year from now, when Nissan finally gets its act together on the new Sentra.

2014 Mini Cooper (stick shift of course), 2016 Camry hybrid, 2009 Outback Sport 5-spd (keeping the stick alive)

    Honda.com and elsewhere.
they are not making big deal out of it just yet as they need to sell the 05s

Anyhow, download and of the 06 brochures like Odyssey or Accord and it is plainly shown.
  • billmchalebillmchale Member Posts: 107
Corey, another thing to consider is that while some of us just need a car for personal transport and to haul our stuff others will look at the Civic as a family car (Yeah I know not many people use compacts as a family vehicle, but if gas stays near $3 a gallon some families might need to put fuel economy at a much higher priority in their buying decisions). I just think that it would be wise for Honda to look at ways of making the vehicle as friendly to as wide a range of buyers as possible (Particularly the sedan... obviously coupe buyers are generally more willing to compromise for style).
  • hondaguy13hondaguy13 Member Posts: 5
i cant wait to test drive this car!!!! :) this is gonna be a huge success, corolla n mazda 3 dont have ANYTHING on this car. The base engine is also a vtech? thas amazing
  • nippononlynippononly Member Posts: 12,555
    are i-VTEC, aren't they?

2014 Mini Cooper (stick shift of course), 2016 Camry hybrid, 2009 Outback Sport 5-spd (keeping the stick alive)

  • hondaguy13hondaguy13 Member Posts: 5
yes thas right, the base will hace a 140hp i-vtec
  • hondaguy13hondaguy13 Member Posts: 5
Does anybody have any info if the Acura EL is going to get a full redesign soon because the model right now is too pricey and you get nothing for it, its time to redesign or discontinue it!

when will we know prices? and colors

I also think the new Civic is just about right for my tastes.

If I could change anything, it would be to offer the Si with automatic and no spoiler. I just think Honda is missing a small segment who would like to have V6 performance in a conservative looking Civic. Seems to me that the Si will tend to appeal to younger people who don't have the moola to afford it. And the older people who can afford it - would rather have the automatic in a conservative looking Civic. When the V6 Accord first came out - there was a long waiting list of people paying over MSRP. I'm wondering in Honda is missing the same market on the Civic?

If you want a conservative coup, buy the civic coup with the auto and no spoiler. The Si is about one thing: Street racing performance. The Civic Coup with auto should fit you just fine. There's no need to taint a little racing machine like the Si with an auto. I'm older and I want the Si just as it is. No auto please. They want you to experience the K20s full performance, and that performance comes with a short throw racing manual and clutch. An auto would water down this engine and isolate the driver from it. Anybody that wants want a fun drive with an auto will find the regular coup with auto just fine . They certainly don't need the K20 engine if they want an auto. You seem to be missing the whole point of the Si.

2006 Civic is very impressive overall, IMO, the sales is gonna climb up strongly like the gas price... :D
It's gonna to be successful because
Keys items that mazda3 & Corolla don't have them standard!
    1. Good Fuel Economy with decent power
    2. Airbags all-around!
    3. ABS is standard!
    4. available 5 speed auto
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
looks nice. With gas hitting $3 a gallon, sales should be brisk.

Why not just get rid of the DX? Who buys a $14K car with no A/C nowadays?

Just build a DX with air-conditioning, a CD player, and remote entry. Call it the Value Package and you're good to go.

THese would be some more luxury niceties which would be nice to have.

since the embargo being lifted and such i can't wait so 14 more days till we get a great car!!!!
  • sunilbsunilb Member Posts: 407
is out on edmunds... seem like a real screamer. A bit funky looking, but I look forward to test-driving it.

Will definitely have to wait for prices to cool off though... $20K is bit steep in my eye.

Of more concern to me will be insurance rates, and theft-potential (trust me, I know about this... my '99 Si had it's wheels stolen and then a year later, the whole vehicle was lifted and chopped... insurance premiums on that car were steep).
  • snakerbillsnakerbill Member Posts: 272
Hi Steve: I made the same statement on an earlier post, and these nuts jumped all over me too. They can't get it through their heads that some people really do prefer an automatic, but like the style and design of the high line car. Why can we not have the automatic on the Si Civic. The RSX base has the same type drive train, and the one I had several years ago was no less a sporty car. Live and let live I say. Let these guys have their 6 speeds and let us have the automatic. Why do they care what we drive??? Also, a downforce spoiler on the REAR of a FRONT drive car is stupid. It just decreases traction to the front wheels. That is what these guys know about cars. Do they have a clue? A street driven car needs a spoiler like a monkey needs a computer.
  • steveoregonsteveoregon Member Posts: 41
To clarify my point - I was merely saying that the the Si should be offered with automatic - as an *option*.

What's the harm in making everyone happy?
  • kernickkernick Member Posts: 4,072
Yes, many families will have to consider the fuel economy of a vehicle when they buy it.
But I'd strongly suggest to anyone that is looking to save $15/week on gas, to consider why they'd buy a new car. You could buy a 5 year old Taurus for $10K less, pay less insurance, and pay less tax. The savings in interest, insurance, and tax would more than pay for the extra gas.

If you're tight on money you should not be thinking of buying ANY new car.
