I just purchased from that web site and did not have a good experience. Ordered splash guards for my 2005 EXL-RES and was sent the wrong ones - they don't come close to fitting. H and A claims they are the right ones - so here we are. You cannot talk to a person at this company - only e-mail communication. I do not recommend buying from HandA-accessories.com

I had just bought a 2005 Honda Odyssey EX 3 days ago and it seems that sometimes when i try to use the power sliding doors it starts to beep and will not open. I think have to go up front and shut the power to the doors off until i get them back closed. Does anyone know why it is doing this?

    It could be 2 things:

    1) if your motor is running, but the gear selector is NOT in PARK,and you try to open the power from the inside door handle,a beep sounds-child safety feature. It can only be opened via the dash switches
The same goes for the cargo door if not shut properly

2)When using your remote to open power sliding doors, you first have to UNLOCK all the doors before you can open any sliding door.

    Good luck

I had a problem with my door not closing. The first day I brought my EXL-RES home and put the kids in their car seats, the passenger sliding door wouldn't shut. It would go forward, start beeping, and then go backwards. It was a nightmare. The dealer had it for 10 days and couldn't get the part. They had to replace the sliding door mechanism and after I talked with American Honda, they magically decided to take the part off another van on the lot and put it on my car. I bought one of the 1st in my area and they were so bewildered by how to work on an '05. It took weeks to get my accessories also.

Agree. Although I like Taffeta White best for the exterior color, the black dash top with tan color interior is unattractive.
I also think the overall exterior styling of the 2005 Odyssey is NOT as attractive as the 1999 - 2004 Odysseys. Amother situation of "change just for the sake of change?"

Hey, I'm sorry to hear about your stroke of luck, but the info is useful. I am currently looking to purchase the 05 Ody EXL with Nav. But I just wanted to inform you that whenever they come out with a new bodystyle you should always be cautious! When they redesign a change things on any vehicle, you're the first to get stuck with the bugs. It's always best to wait at least a year or two on new bodystyles, by that time they would have addressed all the bugs and send out recalls if necessary! I know it feels nice to be first with a new model, if there are any design flaws you'll also be the first to feel the pinch!! For future references, now matter how good the reviews are, when buying a new vehicle you should always take an hour test drive before actually taking it home! Therefore when a ploblem arises, they take care it rightaway to keep from losing the sale. For example if you buy apple from the store and notice something wrong with it, you won't dare walk with it right. Most people assume that they have to purchase the car that was assigned to them, not true. If I had a problem, a major problem like you described, I'd taken the car back and demanded another one. Problems like that on the first day is a sign of a lemon!!

On the 05 Odyssey you have the option of using the motor for the sliding doors, or closing them manually. If you turn the master switch off from the driver panel, you can open and closed the door manually. You don't have to struggle like you did with the older model. That is one of the thing they addressed with the new bodystyle! Again, everyone visually and physically inspect all moving parts of your vehicle BEFORE you drive it home!
  • cchauffeurcchauffeur Member Posts: 14
Hey, here is a suggestion. I'm not sure if this is your problem but try to make sure the doors or unlocked before you try open them with switch. When I went to test drive the 05 Ody I had a similar problem. I had gotten into the vehicle and locked the doors by habit, then attempted to operate the sliding door before unlocking them. I hope that's your problem, if not I tried. Just remember to unlock the doors before trying to open them.

Hey guy, the cross bars for the roof-rack should be universal from one model to the other. Try it and see, it wouldn't hurt to go to an after-market sight to check it out. Dealers are always going to find ways to get you to spend extra money. As for playing DVD's in the Nav. it shouldn't be problem. First of all, you're probably trying to put the DVD in the wrong place. The device behind the Nav screen is strictly a CD PLAYER! You need to find out where the CD-ROM for the Nav is located. Surely you should be able to play movies on it, the Nav plays the map DVD right? Furthermore your back-up camera uses the same monitor. It may not seem like a big deal now but you may decide to upgrade the Nav later, so you need to find out where the Nav's CD-ROM is!!

I'm not even an owner of the 05 Ody yet, but have done enough research to know plenty! Yes you can play the RES through the entire radio system. There is a switch on the front dashboard that controls that. Near the audio controls somewhere. READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL, IT'S VERY INFORMATIVE!
  • cchauffeurcchauffeur Member Posts: 14
The whistling noise may be coming from around the windshield, or one of the doors may not fastened properly. Make sure all of the windows are shut tight. Remember, the windows on the slide door do come down on the new model.
  • cchauffeurcchauffeur Member Posts: 14
ABSOLUTELY NOT!! You have temporary tire as a spare.
  • cchauffeurcchauffeur Member Posts: 14
I know this might be a long-shot but it's worth a try. I know you said the noise is coming from ceiling but try this. The Lazy Susan in storage compartment behind the driver's seat may be moving when you hit a bump. Or the remote for the Dvd in rear may not be fastened to ceiling properly. I don't know if you aware of it, but contols for the DVD comes out so it can be used as a hand-held remote, so make sure is snapped in place properly!
  • cchauffeurcchauffeur Member Posts: 14
I don't think the Nav screen will allow you play DVD's while driving. Also the CD-ROM for the Nav is a separate unit from the CD player behind the Nav screen. Ask your dealer where it is, you may have to upgrade in the future!
  • cchauffeurcchauffeur Member Posts: 14
No the dealer can't install the Nav, that is why the waiting list for Nav equipped Odys are so long. Here's some good advice, you can purchase the state-of-art Nav from CDW electronics. If fact this is the same Navi that Hertz uses in their rental cars. It has been tested by millions of drivers and is fool proof. Hertz calls it the Neverlost System. You can purchase this system for about $1,500 tops. This system is also portable, you can move it from car to car without wiring just plug into the cigarette lighter and go! This system is called the Magellan Roadmate 700. The one thing about this system that has all others beat, when you turn the may turns with you so straight upward on the screen. It may sound a little confusing but trust me, you'll love, voice guidance and all. Most of all, you can learn the system in about fifteen minutes. You don't have to read a 10-page book to figure it out! If you want try out before you purchase, call Hertz rental-car and rent a car equipped with the system for about $10 per day added to the rental of the car.

Yes. It's actually a light grey, where they came up with olive I'll never know. They have a yellowish interior that could be called Tan; they call it Ivory. These people are color blind. The color they call Grey is slightly darker than olive.
  • treetoptreetop Member Posts: 1
We just got ourfully loaded Touring (Nav+RES) a acouple of days ago. The dealer did throw in the cargo tray, and the back sit does fold into it with no problem.

    What an awesome van!
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
I guess the Honda marketing team just had some time on their hands and didn't just want to call their interiors tan, gray, black. Guess they decided that Ivory, Gray, Black and Olive sound nicer.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Well, they could have come up with Taos, Moondance and Grenache :-)

I wish Honda had offered two interior options for the Taffeta White exterior -- Ivory AND Olive. I like a light or white exterior -- the car stays cooler in hot weather, it's easier to see at night, and it hides dirt better than a darker color. But the Ivory interior is, umm, uninspired and an unnatractive shade of beige.

My perfect colorway is light exterior and darker interior.

But Honda seems to be on this standardization kick where every white car it makes has to have a beige interior. Give us some options!
  • sportymonksportymonk Member Posts: 258
Amen on the interior colors. I thought I was the only one that though honda had a color deficiency with their eyes. The Pilot says the White comes with a Fern interior. I went and looked expecting to see a light or pale green. Nope! Its light gray compared to the "Grey" which is a dark grey. Haven't seen an Ody yet with the Olive interior but suspect it is similar if not the same as the "Fern".

BTW I though the Sage Bush color in the sales brochure was dark Green. Looks off dark grey in reality. The Slate Green on the Ody looks like like off grey.

Oh well, I thought my eyes were going bad.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
Sorry, but you are ABSOLUTELY WRONG! The Tourings with PAX tires do not have a spare tire of any type.

    It's not needed.

I have an 05 Ody Sagebrush Pearl/Ivory and I have yet to really see any hint of Sage. The 05 Accord with Sagebrush (maybe it's called something else?) is much more true to the term Sagebrush. I had a White/Fern Pilot and the color names and ranges are a bit odd. Fern was light grey, and I never did like the Taffeta White after we bought it. It seemed dirty white and not crisp white---just my opinion.

No, your eyes aren't going bad.
  • cchauffeurcchauffeur Member Posts: 14
Okay so I stand corrected, so what you are saying that you pay all that money of the Touring and don't even get a temporary spare. Interesting!
  • emaneman Member Posts: 85
yes there are side windows on the second row - just don't try to open them when you are driving the wind buffeting will shatter your ear. they should have left in thethird row flip out windows to relieve the air pressur

I plan to use this vehicle for my limo business, just having a tough decision about which one to buy. I like the fact with Nav you also get the back-up camera which would be useful. I also like the voice activation feature for the climate; audio, navigation systems.
I'm just not sure it's worth an extra $3,000!

Should I see about financing before I leave a deposit or afterwards? In the event that I leave a deposit and don't like the numbers at end of the sale, is it refundable?
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
With the previous generation Odyssey, the white exterior came with a fern or gray interior.
  • 05ody05ody Member Posts: 103
hey thanks that was the problem sometimes when i tried to open the doors i was still in park but as soon as i took it out of park it was fine. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Some dealers may demand a deposit to make sure you are serious, but I wouldn't give one a non-refundable deposit. Some dealers may take your deposit just to take you out of the market and then take their time locating a van for you.

Meanwhile you may lose a good deal on the exact van that another dealer just happened to get in (or one that someone had a deposit on, but had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances).

And I'd get my financing lined up first.

More on the rest of the site, like our Buying Tips pages.

And you really should visit the Honda Odyssey: Prices Paid & Buying Experience discussion, where everyone is talking about the available deals and prices out there.

so why is my 05 EXL so noisy???- clearly, you are a salesman

co you have comaparable numbers for the Town & Country??
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
IMHO, if I were getting one for a limo business it would most definitely have a NAV system. I realize there are other NAV systems that can be added on, but I like the idea of a built in system.

Further, since the EXL-NAV also has the RES system you can offer you clients the option of watching a movie - especially on those long rides I'm sure you do. Also, it could be a family friendly feature to offer your clients. I know the limo company I use brings their own car seats and that's why I use them.

a honda sales guy posted that message - take an EXL for a ride yourself before buying - its no fun
  • emaneman Member Posts: 85
C&D reviewed the Touring which may be quieter than the EXL but the EXl is too noisy with a lousy Radio
  • emaneman Member Posts: 85
I regret not having bought another T&C, anyone want an 05 EXL silver with grey interior??
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
You seem to be missing the point of PAX tires. You don't NEED a spare because you can drive 125 miles on a flat!
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
but what if the nearest Honda dealer is more than 125 miles away?
  • hansiennahansienna Member Posts: 2,312
Want to take a 2002 Chrysler T&C LX in on a trade?
I would have never bought my nice, used 2002 T&C LX in August if I had known I could get a new 2005 Odyssey EX for $25,409.
My Chrysler is quieter than my son's 2001 Odyssey EX but the Odyssey seats are MUCH more comfortable.
  • hansiennahansienna Member Posts: 2,312
There are NO Honda dealers within 150 miles in many parts of Colorado, Wyoming, Nevada, or Utah.
PAX tires are one of the few goofs made by Honda.

New Jersey has two certified PAX dealers.
I am sure the Honda dealers will service them Mon - Fri 9-5. Keep plenty of gas in the car to keep the kids warm while you wait for help.
  • nickelpar1nickelpar1 Member Posts: 1
I see in looking at various Honda accessories sites that the 2005 EX crossbars are a different part number (and higher price) than the 2004 EX versions. I am wondering if the 2004 crossbars will fit on the rails, even if it means that my older bars will not accomodate the new 2005 roofrack add-ons. Anyone know?

Can somebody please help me fix the problem with wind noise in an '05 ODY EX-L ? Is it coming from the wind shield, moon roof, or the cross bars? Can somebody please direct me to the exact location (in detail please with pictures if posted on the forums)of the problem so I can tell my dealer and service manager...they have no clue and say it is normal. The van is great EXCEPT for this dreadful noise!!! Please help.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Ask the service writer to take you out in another Odyssey and prove to you the noise is "normal".
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,567
search on this board and the problem/solutions board for "wind noise" and "cowl". The problem seems to be a poorly fitting piece of the plastic cowling (at the bottome of the windshield, by the wipers). From what's been reported here, it's not an uncommon or unknown issue. Even if your dealer isn't familiar with it, they should be able to get direction from the Honda service support people.

I certainly hope they fix this problem on the line by january when they build our van!

I have an 03 Ody and was hoping to use the same crossbars on the 05 Ody. They have two different part numbers and the Parts Manager said they won't fit. But I have not tried them.

The installation is simple, look at the HandA website above where they show installation instructions.

Leave it to Honda - you will need a Torx wrench to make adjustments. For $160 bucks or so you would think it would be adjustable without tools!!!!
  • sportymonksportymonk Member Posts: 258
What is up with Honda and the Ody? As I have considered the Ody I am surprised at the number of design and quality problems. The wind noise, road noise, faulty transmissions, bad seat design, poor radio. What gives. I was looking forward to getting rid of my Impala for a Honda since I got my daughter a Civic two years ago but now I'm not so sure. It sounds like the Ody has a lot of problems.
