Measuring the van for plywood is one thing, but if someone hits the casket showroom with a tape measure and starts comparing carrying capacity of a Grand Caravan to an Ody, we're going to have to ask Mr. Barris for a diversion (link).

I haven't seen anything to indicate that use of premium fuel would, in fact, bump up the HP.
Driver's seat is more comfortable and has better foot and leg space than my 2002 T&C LX.
Odyssey 2nd and 3rd row seating more comfortable and better designed than 2005 DC Stow-N-Go. I also think the Ody 60/40 split 3rd row folds into the floor better than DC.
I would like the Ody EX even more if it had the complete overhead console with outside temperature/compass and trip computer that my T&C LX has.
The 2005 Odyssey EX will be my 1st choice if we decide to get a new vehicle this year with either Caravan SXT or Grand Caravan SXT 2nd choice. We will never buy anything again but a minivan.

Don't forget the Honda leather steering wheel cover. It is the best addition you can make to make the Ody more enjoyable(feel to your hands) to drive as your hands would be on the wheel 100% the time (I hope!)
You best bet to buy is the H and A joint whose ad banner appear in this forum frequently.
We received delivery of our 2005 Ody about 10 days ago (we bought it online). We were so happy to have finally landed the car we wanted, in the color we wanted after waiting several months.
A couple days ago, in the morning while driving to work, I noticed 3 suspicious looking likes come on on the dash. All 3 lights were yellow/orange colored, which I believe indicates a warning of some type, generally not good. I double checked with the users manual and it turns out 2 of the lights are associated with the VSA system (VSA indicator and VSA activation indicator) and the third one is for ABS.
The manual state to have a honda service guy look at it asap. So we brought it in the next day -- hoping for the best, but essentially conjuring up the worst in our minds. This kinda stuff just doesn't happen with brand new Honda cars!
After about a half day, my service rep calls me and tells me that the "lights" are associated with specific "codes" for the on-board computer. Wasn't sure exactly what that meant, but essentially, they didn't know how to fix it directly. Their normal way of handling these "code" situations is to take pictures of the appropriate area of the vehicle and send it to Honda the mother company for analysis. Arrrgh, yeah, right -- this is what I want to hear after plopping down 30+ grand on the car. They're not even sure what it is or how to fix it.
Just wandering if anyone, anyone at all has experienced anything like this with their new Odys. I'm pretty lowerless at this point. Don't know if I could have done anything to have prevented this from happening, just bad luck?
Thanks for listening...
-Shawn
Yes it is upsetting, but these things happen sometimes. As long as they can fix the problem now, no reason to suspect that it will be a chronic issue.

The difference between a $5000 Impala and a $30,000+ Honda better be the Honda works properly!
My sympathies. Are they giving your a loaner in the meantime? They ought to!
All I find is instructions to change the oil when the "maintenance due" light comes on, and that this is governed by overall driving conditions. Am I missing something in the manual?
I have owned other vehicles with "maintenance reminders" but in all cases, the owners manual made reference to recommended oil change intervals.
If anyone can reference a time/mileage recommendation, please let me know which page it is on or what your source is.
Thanks
I suspect that the EPA figures are generated with premium fuel, and will be a bit less with regular.
But if Honda really recommended oil change intervals (say 5k), would it be better for them to RELY on the owners actually reading their owner's manuals, or simply program the maintenance light to come on every 5k miles?
I thought the manual said to do it at least annually even if the ligt doesn't come on.
But, it isn't going to hurt anything to do it sooner (say every 5K), except for your wallet.
I myself tend to change early, just for peace of mind, but am being patient to see when the Ody calls for it. We are at about 70%left at 1,700 miles, 3 months old.

Ody Positives. Drove and handled great. Went through sharp turns car like (although not like my low and wide Impala). Quite, no noticeable defects.
Negatives- Wife and I disliked the arm rests on an EX-L. Narrow and uncomfortable. She didn't like the size of the steering wheel. Said it felt smaller than she was used to. Me - I couldn't get the seat to pedal to steering wheel to fit comfortably. When the pedals were right, the steering wheel felt too far away. Had this urge to pull the wheel closer. When I got the wheel right, my knees were too close and upright. May try again but I wasn't wowed. When we sat in one a week ago, and I raised the lumbar support, it felt too pronounced. When I returned the lumbar support to its original position, it didn't seem to go back all the way.
Wife and I agreed, if we don't like the way it fits, don't buy it. BTW I am 5'10" 205 pounds. Pants length 31, shirt arm length 34. But I do like a more reclined driving position. My I've read too many complaints in Edmunds?
My comments for the Pilot will be in the Pilot thread.
I agree with your comments about the lumbar adjustment and it baffles me as to why it is like that and now I just leave it inactive. You're also right that the steering wheel is a bit too far away (I'm 6-4 with a 37 inch sleeve) although, at least for me, it is livable.
I just went out and measured - the Pilot steering wheel is 15 and one-half inches in diameter while the Odyssey's wheel is about 15 inches. At most there is three-quarters of an inch difference between them.
The last generation Odyssey could be fitted with a larger driver's right armrest (with a storage compartment) as an accessory but, alas, it reportedly does not directly fit the '05. There seems to be a markt for this product so it seems possible (I hope!) that if Honda doesn't eventually offer one, someone else will.
I just bought a new CRV two weeks ago and on the way home from the dealer the ABS, VSA and a third light (warning triange with exclamation point inside) came on. Went back to dealer and they got a code that they didn't recognize but told me it had cleared and everything was ok. On way home, after about two miles the lights came on again so they agreed to replace the longitudinal G sensor yesterday. On the way home the lights came on again. (They had been coming on after a few miles every time I drove the car, but would clear when I turned the car off) Anyway, now they are telling me it's a "wire" and that they will troubleshoot it. I am waiting for a call from the general manager at the dealership because I don't want them tearing the car apart piece by piece especially when they sound like they're really not sure what the cause is. Not sure what recourse I have but to give them another shot at fixing before exploring the lemon law. I know this is for a different car but I thought you might find it helpful. Let me know how you make out and I will do the same if you're interested.

Same thing happened to my EX with less than 200 miles. Then back to the Dealer where they cannibalized a part from a new one on the lot and installed it. So far so good :~(
We thought that about all the minivans. I guess the armrests are made with the intent to lift them so you can have easier access to the second row or something. I first noticed the skinny arm rests in the Chrysler T&C, then noticed all the minivans have them.
I have a real bad feeling. I purchased an LX about a month ago. When we start it after its been sitting an hour or 2 it makes a 1 second noise when turning the key as it is starting. It's like a grinding or whirring, real quick, almost like a diesel start. If I quickly turn it off and start again the sound is gone. Dealer looked at it and tells me it is normal. He claims he started other Odysseys on lot and they make the same noise cold. Honda of America seems to believe the dealer and is doing nothing for me. I feel like I am getting runaround from both dealer and Honda. Please tell me, do you hear this in yours on cold starts? I sincerely doubt it as I doubt engineers would be okay with this sound. Also, I am sure Honda would have heard complaints about this already, which they say they have not. Also, what are my options if neither Honda or dealer helps me?
Thanks in advance.
Chris
You state that the dealer claims he started others on the lot and they made the same noise. Why don't you go out on the lot with him and see if this is, in fact, true? If it is, then I wouldn't be concerned. If he's lying, contact HOA personally.
It would be wise to have another person witness this as well so it doesn't turn into a he said-he said type of thing.
My guess is it is nothing to worry about. Don't be too paranoid about every little noise you hear, you have a lot of warranty left on a brand new vehicle if it does develop into a functional problem.
.. rotate the tires
.."replace oil and filter"
..check brakes
..check parking parking brake
..inspect tie rod ends, steering box, and gearbox boots
..inspect suspension
..inspect drive shaft boots
..inspect brake hoses and lines including VSA
..inspect fluid levels and condition of fluids
..inspect exhaust system
..inspect fuel lines and connections
Adjust valves during services if they are noisy.
Inedpendent of the maintenance messages in the multi-information display, replace brake fluid every 3 years.
Hope that this helps...
On the rear splash guard installation on a vehicle equipped with an inner fender, do you re-use the inner fender or discard it?
It doesn't say what to do in the instructions. It seems that the rear splash guard could either replace the inner fender or overlap it. Has anyone else here tried to install the splash guards? If so do you know what I'm talking about?
Thanks,
-Jeff
On the front splash guards that's definately true, but on the rear splash guards it's not clear.
Could someone check the instructions from the honda accessories website posted at the top and give me their best interpretation of what to do with the rear inner fender pictured in step #7?

Thanks again,
-Jeff
The instructions are clear - you are to remove the rear inner fender if the vehicle is so equipped. Unfortunately, the instructions do not depict this part. The rear splash guard replaces and supplements this piece.
(1) There is a clunking under the gas pedal right after we start the van up and reach 12 miles per hour. Is this the ABS kicking in? Is this normal?
(2) I do not believe we are getting the gas mileage around town that we are suppose to be getting. Anyone else having this experience?
